Hayley is an English teacher and has worked at the school for five years.
“I wanted to come back. I did a placement here [as a student-teacher]. It's a pretty cool place to be. The kids are great.”
Her attitude differs from great-grandfather Raymond, who died aged 97. He had only two years at school.
“He couldn’t get out of here quick enough,” Peter said.
School was different in Peter’s day in the 1950s than it is now.
He was once asked by a teacher to clear birds nests from the ceiling of a classroom, and he fell through the roof. He remembered stuffing a book down the back of his trousers to soften the blow of being caned.
