Former elementary SRO accused of taking part in sex trafficking conspiracy

OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WYFF) - A former school resource officer at an Upstate elementary school has been charged in connection with sex trafficking, according to court documents.
In March, John Towery was fired as the SRO at Fair-Oak Elementary School and as an employee with the Oconee County Sheriffâs Office, Sheriff Michael Crenshaw said.
At the time Crenshaw said Towery was fired after an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security.
Towery had been with the Oconee County Sheriffâs Office since 2012 and previously worked for Edisto Beach Police Department, Crenshaw said at the time of the firing.
