Former Burton firefighter caught in GHOST sting sentenced to jail time

GENESEE COUNTY, MI -- A man who has served as a firefighter and police officer in multiple Genesee County departments has been sentenced to jail time after pleading guilty to child sexually abusive activity.
Matthew J. Hyde, 40, of Burton was sentenced April 26 by Genesee County Circuit Court Judge Elizabeth A. Kelly to 180 days in jail, with credit for four days served, and 60 months of probation.
Hyde pleaded guilty in March to one count of child sexually abusive activity after he was caught in a Genesee County Sheriff’s Department GHOST sex-trafficking sting in 2020.
