GRAND ISLAND – Fonner Park President Dan Fogland announced in a press conference Friday that Elite Casino Resorts, LLC will construct and manage a new casino resort at the race track.
Fogland said the new resort will be called Grand Island Casino Resort at Fonner Park. The casino resort will feature 650 slot machines, 20 table games, a sports book, lounging, food and entertainment.
Elite Casino Resorts, LLC will invest $100 million into the casino. Construction for the resort will cost $45 million and the renovation of the current track will cost $3.45 million.
Elite Casino Resorts, LLC is a family business founded by the Kehl’s that started in the 1960’s when Bob and Ruth Kehl bought and ran a café in downtown Dubuque, Iowa. In 1990, the business was granted the first riverboat gaming operator’s license in Iowa. Today, Elite Casino Resorts, LLC, owns and operates Riverside Casino and Golf Resort in Washington County, Iowa which opened in 2006, Grand Falls Casino Resort in Lyon County, Iowa, which opened in 2011, and Rhythm City Casino Resort, which reopened in 2016.
