Flotsam & Jetsam: Wild sheep and floorboard whisky
By Jim Carter
Inspired by officials in Scotland who have been naming their snowplow and road-salting vehicles for years (License to Chill, William Wall-Ice, Sweet Child O’Brine), the Minnesota Department of Transportation has climbed aboard with a contest to encourage citizens to name its fleet. Among the most popular entries so far: Plowy McPlowFace, Plow Bunyan and our favorite, Snowbi Wan Kenobi. (We should be able to top that.)
What to do? Angie Masse, an owner of A Maze in Corn, a snow maze in St. Adolphe, Manitoba, boasted the world’s largest snow maze, certified in 2019, at 30,021 square feet and 110 square inches. Then came the pandemic, and A Maze in Corn wasn’t big enough to accommodate social distancing. So this winter she expanded it to 57,600 square feet, nearly double, so her outdoor entertainment venue could reopen. (Angie’s new normal?)
