Danielle Kern had to undergo three open-heart surgeries when she was a child. Twenty-four years after, she gave birth to her firstborn, a baby boy.
The Florida mom gave birth at the same hospital she had all of her heart surgeries, St. Joseph's Hospital.

When Kern was about to give birth, she was monitored by St. Joseph's Hospital's congenital cardiologist, Dr. Joel Hardin.
Because of her heart condition, the doctors had to be extra careful. Dr. Hardin said in an interview with Bay News 9, "Women born with complex heart disease (this is just one complex type of heart disease) they do have increased risks of complications."
