Flag Day rally in Deming, NM

DEMING – At noon on Saturday, a group of about 30 people gathered in downtown Deming at Leyendecker Plaza to celebrate Flag Day.
June 14 signaled a celebration of the American flag that occurs each year on the anniversary of the flag’s official adoption. The American flag became the official flag back on June 14, 1777 when the Continental Congress took charge during the Revolutionary War.
History shows that the colonial troops fought under a variety of flags symbolic of each of the colonial territories. The flags included various symbols – rattlesnakes, pine trees, and eagles – and slogans – ”Don’t Tread on Me,” “Liberty or Death,” and “Conquer or Die,” to name a few.
