By BRENT MARTINSt. Joseph PostFive people died in traffic crashes on Missouri highways over the long Labor Day holiday weekend.The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports its officers investigated four of the traffic fatalities with the Springfield Police Department investigating one. The patrol reports one drowning over the holiday weekend as well as one fatal boating accident.Troop H reported no fatal crashes in northwest Missouri. Troopers investigated 13 crashes in northwest Missouri that resulted in six injuries.In all, state troopers investigated 276 crashes in Missouri, resulting in 97 injuries and four fatalities. Troopers made 113 drunk driving arrests and 55 drug arrests.Three people were injured in boating accidents. The patrol reports the fatal boating accident occurred on the Lake of the Ozarks in Camden County, when 29-year-old Tyler Elliott of Louisville, Kentucky drowned after getting out of his boat to go swimming in the Lake of the Ozarks at the four-mile mark of the Grand Glaize Arm in Anderson Hollow Cove, Camden County. He was not wearing a life jacket.The patrol reports 21-year-old Ryan McGee of Moody drowned after wading into deep water Sunday near Hammond Camp in the North Fork of the White River.Statistics reported by the patrol could change if late deaths occur.
