“Worst session ever.” We’ve heard that before, but we have to admit, the 2021 annual convening of Florida lawmakers could at least be considered a contender. Lawmakers passed a decently balanced budget, but they also approved a raft of bills that were kooky, anti-environment, anti-consumer, anti-public safety or just anti-common sense. Some of them drew headlines, others didn’t. Some were declared to be “fixed” at the last minute — but too often, those tweaks only made bad legislation a little less odorous.
For this list, we’re focusing on bills that passed, but haven’t yet been delivered to Gov. Ron DeSantis for his review. And we’re looking at bills that haven’t gotten much attention, unlike the odious “anti-riot” legislation or HB 1, which undercuts voters rights.
