Fish fries a popular Lent tradition in Wayne, Holmes, Ashland

Ash Wednesday kicked off the Lenten season — the 40-day period of penance leading up to Easter Sunday.
For those who observe meatless Fridays during Lent, the season also signifies those ever-popular fish fries. And let's be honest, a steaming plate of freshly-cooked fish with fries and coleslaw — a typical Friday offering — isn't exactly a penance for fish lovers.
But this year, many churches in the tri-county area have had to forgo the fish fry tradition because of the COVID-19 pandemic, while a few are offering drive-thru fish fries. 
Area restaurants and caterers to the rescue. Many have added Friday fish offerings to their menus to help those looking for fish dinners keep their vow to forgo meat.
