COSHOCTON – As of late Tuesday afternoon, fire crews were still on scene battling hot spots of a large scrap fire at Lity’s Scrapyard, 23820 County Road 621. The road also remained closed between the Coshocton County Career Center and the Ohio Department of Transportation garage.
Rob McMasters, executive director of the Coshocton County Emergency Management Agency, said the fire was reported about 12:20 p.m. He said workers were dismantling a vehicle when some unknown combustible material ignited and quickly spread to a nearby heap of scrap vehicles. McMasters roughly estimated the pile had about 100 vehicles in it. Initially, thick black smoke could be seen from across the county and many people posted pictures to social media.
