“The fire did start in the Noodle Canteen kitchen area and got up into the extraction system,” he said.
“It’s like a chimney, you should be cleaning them every winter. [Fire] gets sucked into the extraction system and if it's not clean it just takes and keeps going.”

Fenz southern communications shift manager Ian Littlejohn said two crews from Nelson initially attended the blaze, with another two from Stoke and Nelson also called in to assist.
He said no injuries were reported.
Police blocked off the road, but before they arrived members of the public had diverted traffic away from the scene.
