Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has reminded lawyers to be mindful of their responsibilities as they are opinion shapers.
Sayed-Khaiyum while participating at the Fiji Law Society/International Bar Association Convention 2021’s question and answer session on the topic ‘Free Speech or Censorship: Lawyers and Social Media, assured lawyers that their freedom of speech was not restricted, and stressed the need for them to be mindful of the responsibilities and obligations they carry.
“What you say as an individual, particularly if you’re an opinion shaper will carry a lot of weight, and therefore it brings forth a particular level of responsibility and a particular level of obligation for you to be careful in what you say.”
