The Florida High School Athletic Association reversed course and reinstated six high jumpers for Friday’s girls Class 3A state track and field championships that it had previously disqualified.
The six student-athletes, including Lake Minneola senior Alexis Doll, were notified late Thursday after FHSAA officials contacted their coaches to inform them of the organization’s decision to allow them to compete.
While coaches of the student-athletes involved were informed Thursday evening, the FHSAA did not release a statement clarifying its position.
“I'm so happy the FHSAA did the right thing,” said Maurice Campbell, Lake Minneola track and field coach. “They should never have been disqualified in the first place. I appreciate (Ed Thompson, the FHSAA athletic director who oversees track and field) reconsidering and allowing the girls to compete.
