Fenton Freedom Festival canceled

The Fenton Freedom Festival Committee had given itself a deadline of April 5 to decide if this year’s Freedom Festival would take place to celebrate Independence Day on the Fourth of July.
 Disappointed, Pat Lockwood, committee chair and Meghan Grimshaw, event coordinator, sent a letter to the entire committee saying that this year’s Freedom Festival has been canceled.
 In the letter, Lockwood and Grimshaw explained that after several meetings and discussions with the city of Fenton and due to the safety risks associated with COVID-19, this year’s Freedom Festival will not take place.
 July 4 falls on Sunday this year and the festival would normally take place on Monday, July 5. The current State of Michigan order allows for a maximum of 1,000 people at an outdoor gathering and this popular festival draws far more
