Fellowships aim to study Maryland's Underground Railroad sites

A project that started last month in Maryland to study the Underground Railroad sites in the state as well as the stories of the enslaved will continue through May.
The state awarded four fellowships to researchers who are studying, documenting, and providing new interpretations of the Underground Railroad and enslavement in Maryland.
One of the fellows, Alexandra McDougle, a biocultural anthropologist working on her Master's Degree at American University, tells WBAL's Anne Kramer as a Black American she is excited to get a more holistic interpretation of enslavement.
"These individuals fought for their own freedoms, and built communities and lives in spite of what they were facing," McDougle said.
