Feds go after $346K in cash seized during traffic stop on I-81

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Harrisburg is asking a federal judge to approve the forfeiture of nearly $346,000 in cash that was discovered during a traffic stop by a state trooper on Interstate 81 that turned out to be anything but routine.
The stop for a moving violation occurred on Nov. 17, 2020, in Lebanon County. Prosecutors claim in their filing with U.S. Middle District Judge Christopher C. Conner that the money was tied to drug dealing.
The feds say the vehicle, a rental car from New York, was driven by a woman who had no driver’s license, only a Kuwaiti passport and identification card that the trooper couldn’t decipher. Both she and her male passenger were visibly nervous and couldn’t get their stories straight, the court filing states.
