Two companies in Iowa that are defunct have been sentenced to a total of $3.4 million in restitution and forfeiture in federal court, in a fraud case. Darrell Duane Smith, the companies' former leader, already is in federal prison in Duluth, Minnesota. He was tripped up in his fraud when promoting investments and tax credits in North Dakota in March 2012.
