The federal government has pledged millions in funding to fix up nearly 6,300 affordable housing units, which will then be rented out at an average of $700 per month.
Ahmed Hussen, Canada's minister of families, children and social development, announced the $145.6-million investment on Monday morning, calling it a "huge win" for the city.
"That means at least 6,300 Hamiltonians and their family members will have a better quality of life, a better quality of housing that is more energy efficient, that is more accessible, that is affordable and will allow them to prosper," he said.
