PORTLAND, Ore. — As health officials across the country urge people to get a COVID-19 vaccine, there are worries that people with a fear of needles may be avoiding the shot.
"I don't have exact numbers but I certainly wouldn't dismiss fear of needles," said Multnomah County Health Officer Dr. Jennifer Vines. "I don't know anybody who likes getting a vaccine or shot in the arm."
A fear of needles can range from a mild fear all the way to an overwhelming phobia. Health officials say the key in overcoming fear lies with health care providers and how they treat the anxiety.
