The markets matched in their explosive force by Online Retail. We are on the cusp of a recordbreaking cyber monday today but will any of the Online Retailers be able to break out of the amazon jungle . Top 200 amazon seller now turned tellall author is here to cut away the brush to reveal the wonders and the dangers of doing business on amazon. And as president elect joe biden begins locking up his economic and cabinet teams, one crucial position still remains unfilled. Who will nab the top spot at the Energy Department . Sun power Ceo Tom Werner about to let the sunshine in on that guessing game. First, a fox business alert. The dow is on pace to close out its best november since 1928 and you know what, the s p is even better. Trying to clock the best november in its history. But take a look right now, the small caps, the little guys, the russell 2000. Forget november, this is the best month ever for the russell, up 18. 8 . Sm energy, gannett, choice point, some of the biggest small cap movers this month. You can see what a great, great move we have seen here. Sm energy about 173 to the upside. Gannett clocking 145 and choice point scratching out 126 in gains. To our floor show traders as we look towards december. Phil flynn and scott redler. Phil, give it to me. Its a great november but we really have to go through quite a bit of angst to get to this day, did we not . What are you anticipating for december when its almost like we kind of we frontloaded the santa claus rally. We really did. In fact, when you have a november thats so good, sometimes santa claus has a tougher time living up to it. Historically, thats the case. We might get into a little choppiness but having said that, you have to congratulate this market that has come through everything you can possibly throw at it for the last couple of years. There have been a lot of naysayers about this market that were on the sidelines, worried about covid, worried about, you know, the market crashing, they were worried about the economy never opening up. All of that pessimism, of course, was not rewarded. I think it really is a testament to how far this economy has come through covid and where were going. I think it portends, what we are seeing in this market portends a very optimistic future, especially now that we are going to have a potential vaccine on the horizon and you know, i think that moderna news today, they are getting that emergency approval or trying to get that, thats going to be really big. Im very optimistic for december. I think the biggest thing that people did wrong was underestimating the power of the market. Liz yeah. Yeah. Modernas is a great story because its propelling a lot of areas. You like the industrials because you feel theres an opportunity there for more growth. Let me get to scott redler. What do you like . I do have to bring up what had been really strong china stocks. We got this news today that President Trump and his cabinet are going to once again call out and put on a blacklist more names here. Treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin kind of dropped this grenade today, adding restrictions on cmic and about 30 other Chinese Companies to make it more difficult to trade them. The Defense Department identified them as companies with ties to the chinese military, thats the allegation. They are getting hit today. Cnooc is an Energy Company but talk to me, scott, about whether that casts a pall on the psychology with a couple weeks left of the Trump Administration and people wondering, you know, are we going to get a lot of these surprise grenades dropped on the market. You mean the fake bombs . We had quite a few of them dropped. I like what phil said, the market has pretty much climbed a hell of a wall of worry. What you stated earlier about the performance of the small caps, its been astounding. Two, three weeks ago, you and i talked about blink. We said that the ev sector needs charging stations. Blink went from 12 to 30 plus. We talked about the amazon of africa. Remember jmia . Another small cap went from 12 to 40. These are big moves. These are some moves that have changed traders lives and have made investors portfolios. Every few weeks we have a different flavor of the market. At this point, maybe the small caps need to rest. I think for the next week or two, maybe the biotech groups that ignited last week will hold the baton. I like the idb, im involved in that. I think that will make new weekly, monthly highs and get to probably 155. One of your producers asked me about an opportunity in another small cap, perhaps, and im going to have to say because its something i have been holding for like six months, we are heading into the ash conference. The ash conference is a very very prestigious big conference that happens this saturday, where the most innovative, influential biotechs will present data and its hopefully curing different stages of cancer and this spec stuff thats not for everyone, called mustang bio, mbio, trading around 360. You want an opportunity . I think that could be double digits next year. I do think if you want to be safer, yeah, go with pfizer, go with some of them, but there are a lot of gems out there if you do your research. Liz you know what . Thats why scott and phil are here. They do the research for you, you guys. Guess what . We call him flynn, too. Good to see you guys. Thank you very much. Scott and phil with our floor show. Here we go. Dow jones industrials, yeah, losing a tiny bit of steam, 1 , down about 323. We talked about moderna. Look at modernas stock. It is skyrocketing on the news of the day. The pharma giant is applying for emergency use authorization for its covid19 vaccine in the United States and united kingdom. That is good enough for a 17 jump at the moment. This vaccine shown to be about 94. 1 effective in studies. The news leads to other vaccine makers a little bit mixed. Pfizer, second leading stock on the dow only behind apple but Johnson Johnson and glaxosmithkline both in the red right now, with about 50 minutes left to trade. This is a headlinedriven sector at the moment. Lets get to the white house. We are going to get some headlines from blake burman. Reporter we have a head line, that 94 effective number coming out of moderna but theres still much more when you peel back through what they put out there today. They continue to say that their covid19 vaccine candidate is safe, part of the reason why they are applying as well for the emergency use authorization, the eua, to the fda. But also, heres what the company was highlighting today as well. They say in their phase 3 Clinical Trial study, there were 30 severe cases. All 30 were those for people who were given the placebo, not the vaccine. Listen here to that companys ceo from earlier this morning. Watch. And what is even most exciting, i was pleased yesterday when i learned about the data, there were 30 severe cases in the study. All 30 were on placebo. There were zero cases of people with the vaccine. If you think about the impact of severe cases driving hospitalization, driving people in icu and death, that is a game changer. Reporter we know as it relates to pfizer, the fda will be taking up the eua for that vaccine candidate on december 10th. Moderna said today, at least he suggested the fda could potentially take that up for moderna on december 17th, one week later. The fda, we should say, has not yet at least publicly acknowledged that possibility. By the way, as it relates to distribution and what could potentially come down the line in the not too distant future, the ffda said it started on friday with some of the distribution to take place with United Airlines beginning the charter process to distribute potentially the Pfizer Vaccine candidate. Liz . Liz yeah. I bet you this is going to be a lot of names, fed ex, mckesson we know is part of this distribution effort. Its going to be an all hands on deck. I love it. Its Great American business and of course, we will be watching all of it. Thank you very much. Blake burman. Okay. So it looks really nice out there in washington, d. C. Is blake even wearing a jacket . The sun is shining. Sure. Particularly on this solar stock. Look at this oneyear picture of sun power. This is a gain of 368 over the past 12 months. And the skies might only be looking brighter as to whats shaping up as a more climatefriendly biden presidency. Could a key player still missing from the cabinet roster actually darken the horizons for renewables . Sun powers Ceo Tom Werner is here on the list of potential Energy Secretary nominees thats been thrown around at least by those in the know, right . Its already dividing moderates and progressives as it fights for keeping a green peace in place. Closing bell ringing in 49 and a half minutes. The claman countdown is coming right back. If confirmed, neera tanden will be the first woman of color to lead the office of management and budget. And Wally Adeyemo will be the first deputy secretary of the treasury. However, no mention yet of just who president elect biden will tap to be his next Energy Secretary. The entire sector is waiting and wondering including my next guest, tom werner, chairman and ceo of solar power giant sun power. Good to see you. We already showed your stock. It has really sort of run ahead of what could have been the news a couple of months ago and that is a possible biden presidency. Couple of possible contenders names are being tossed about here. Nuclear physicist ernest munez, for one. What are you hearing . Well, i think those are positive steps. Obviously theres going to be support for the paris accord and theres going to be support for renewables. Renewables, after all, represented 64 of all new Energy Generation in america through september of this year. So it is clear there will be head of due that will be a Renewable Energy leader and will take that direction for our National Labs and work with congress on policies that help us win in what is clearly the next Energy Generation resource for america. Liz you say the next, but you know, natural gas is really having a renaissance here and maybe its its first ever renaissance, because it cleans, it burns cleanly, it is definitely plentiful here in the United States. We dont depend on any other country for it. So do you have to see a little more of that before you really let the sunshine in, so to speak, for solar . Yeah. In fact, natural gas is 26 , so youre at 90 when you combine renewables and natural gas. They work great together. So natural gas will be part of the mix. I think whats important here is that we look to the future, which is the combination of natural gas, renewables and storage, and thats a combination of where energys going to come from, and thats where we have to win in america. Liz why not check a bunch of the boxes here. I know you want to look forward. I do want to just touch on recent history. 2018, january, President Trump announced tariffs on solar panels and imports of solar cells, modules. This was a problem for you guys, even though you are the top producer of equipment for the Solar Industry here in the United States, you also make some of your parts in mexico and i believe in the philippines. You were slapped with these 30 tariffs. You immediately jumped in to try and get a waiver and it took you months and months. At what cost per month did you end up having to pay a tariff . I think this is a really good example of some of the challenges that we had was between 1. 5 million and 2 million per week. Sun power was not in a position to withstand that kind of tariff. It took about nine months. We worked very constructively with ustr and ultimately, our technology was exempted. I think this is important, though, as we look forward to less stick and more carrot. Incentivize whats going to win in the future and whats clearly the trend for the future. Liz what about the free market . We can put up some of your partners here. Walmart has turned to sun power. You have relationships with lowes as i understand it, toyota motor. The list goes on. And therefore, if you let the free market work, why do we need the government . Or do you look at this more as the history of the railroads where it was the government that really jumped in to build out this new way of crossing the United States . I think this is a great question. I think its really, people misunderstand that energy is regulated and will always be regulated, and also has legislation. The question you raise is incentives. If youre comparing a hundredyearold sources of energy that have been incentivized for that entire time, that being fossil fuels, then you have a new Technology Like solar and Solar Storage or energy storage, you need to at least compare those in terms of their development. So i think government has a role in incentivizing the future and giving that scale for new Energy Technologies to mucatch up with Energy Technologies that have been around for a hundred years. This is not new. Its a question of focusing on the next generation of technologies. Liz well, just compare for me, please, because we have some people who work in the oil industry watching us right now. The jobs and the salaries for these jobs, are they comparable to what you in the Solar Industry are offering when it comes to salaries and are you hiring right now . This is why it made so much sense. It is the future and its the future of jobs. We are absolutely hiring right now. In fact, we are constrained, we would like to hire faster for solar installations than we can today. Our business would grow faster if we could hire faster. In those jobs in solar installation, pay between 20 and 30 an hour, have full benefits. These are absolutely the jobs of the future. And our growth is so fast right now that we are training as fast as we possibly can for solar installers. Liz well, thats good news. Tom, we will be watching all of this, because as we await the name of who will run the Energy Department, this ought to be an interesting one. Tom werner of sun power, good to see you. Thank you so much. Okay. Beefing up its menu, just three months after bringing back its steak to its faithful fans, chipotle now testing smoked brisket in 64 restaurants . Dont stop taking eliquis unless your doctor tells you to, as stopping increases your risk of having a stroke. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily and it may take longer than usual for any bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. Ask your doctor about eliquis. And if your ability to afford your medication has changed, we want to help. Liz fox business alert. Cyber monday, this is a serious question, has it wrenched the biggest shopping day crown away from black friday . Online it absolutely has. According to adobe analytics, todays Digital Sales are expected to come in as high as 13 billion. That is the biggest on record. This tops black fridays online spend which surged to 21. 6 to a new record of just 9 billion . Look at that. So cyber monday will be gigantic. Cybersales booming as shopping in brick and Mortar Stores cratered over 50 this year due to the pandemic. Grady trimble is at a walmart in chicago to take a look at how big box retailers are taking on amazon and trying to morph to a very difficult landscape here. Reporter yeah, those Big Box Stores like walmart are trying to give amazon a run for its money, but this weekend, amazon rose to the occasion and to the competition. Take a look at these numbers from thanksgiving and black friday. Amazon had 55 share of online sales compared to these other retailers. Thats up for amazon about 4 year over year. Amazon was followed by walmart, best buy, target and then ebay. You mentioned this, foot traffic in Retail Locations was way down this year, about 52 . Look at this video we have. It looks like any other day at the store, not on a black friday. But that was partly by design. The stores didnt want big crowds this year. So instead, they tried to push people online for the entire month of november, not just on black friday. That seemed to work out best for target. Sales online for the month of november in the runup to thanksgiving and black friday, up about 305 which might explain this next graphic. Sales were down for target on thanksgiving and black friday but thats likely because they spread out their deepest discounts over the entire month of november. Etsy, the big winner this black friday and thanksgiving, though, seeing sales way up. Liz, an important date for you to remember as more and more people are shopping online this year. You mentioned you might be a little bit of a procrastinator. Adobe says that december 11th is the last date for cheaper shipping. So if you wait until after december 11th, you are going to pay more for shipping and it might not get to you in time. Just mark that date down. Liz okay. Because i am doing the shopping early because i listen to you, grady. Grady, thank you very much. Grady trimble. You know, it is easy to see why amazon is the Team Competitors are desperate to beat, especially on cyber monday. 50 cents out of every dollar spent online in the u. S. Is captured by the online giant. Shoppers arent the only ones eager to hop on amazons train. 2. 3 million active Third Party Sellers have hitched a ride to amazons star for better or for worse. Whats the worse part . Lets bring in jayson boyce, who became one of amazons very early top 200 sellers until, that is, he decided to stop and write the amazon jungle, the sellers Survival Guide to thriving on the worlds most perilous ecommerce marketplace. Great to have you. All right. Whats so perilous about selling on amazon . Oh, liz, where do we begin. I dont think we have enough time to talk about all the different dangers. But you know, one of the things amazon does, they have been instituting a lot of Artificial Intelligence and its not very intelligent all the time. They will take down listings from wellmeaning Amazon Sellers who account for 60 of the sales that come through amazon. Com, they will take down their listings, suspend their account and there are just a lot of false positives with this ai technology. You can work really hard, do all the right things, then amazon shuts you down and youre like what happened . Its really hard to reach somebody or especially to reach somebody who can help you get your business back up. Thats one of many reasons why its perilous. Liz you know, i always say this to my viewers, you are wondering why am i listening to this guy . Because you began selling Basketball Hoops in the early 2000s, just online, then in 2003, the phone rings. What happened on that phone call . Yeah. I got this call from amazon and you can imagine how excited my brothers and i were. Amazon. Com called us, we were reading about them, you know, on all of the news magazines and they said hey, we see you all over the internet selling your Basketball Hoops, youre doing a great job, we would like you to sell on amazon. I said dude, what are you talking about, you guys sell books and vhs tapes. Im dating myself. And you know, my brothers and i would talk about it, we were both excited but also frightened because we knew whatever we did on amazon, we knew right from the beginning that they would also try to sell the same stuff. Even though in those early days, they promised us they would not. So we started off selling at amazon, we did 100,000 the first year, a million the next year, two million. We were doubling in revenue every single year. It was the wild west. Liz and then what happened . I say that because they go from partner and in some cases, to competitors. They began selling their own product, amazon basics, and theres this question about whether people are really benefiting from being Third Party Sellers because i got to tell you, i talked with some people who are absolutely thrilled with it, okay. They live in tiny towns. Zanesville, ohio. But for amazon, if they had a little brick and mortar store, they wouldnt be able to sell anything. They might be out of business because of the pandemic, but because of amazon, they are in business. Its so true. Theres really, you know, two sides of the coin. Let me just say, im a believer that without the hard work, ingenuity, capital, Product Knowledge of the Amazon Third Party seller, of which there are millions, as you so wisely stated, amazon wouldnt be what it is today. If Amazon Retail itself sells 15 million shoes. The Third Party Marketplace sells half a billion skus. Amazon, even though they hired nearly 500,000 people this year because of covid, they still cant replace the Third Party Seller. So the folks like you were just talking about, they are the lifes blood of what makes amazon work. You know, no matter who you talk to, look, if you want to get the real story, its hard to get that out of a Third Party Seller because they are so dependent on amazon for their revenue, for keeping their lights on, they dont want to rock the boat. They dont want to upset them so youre not getting the full story. Im no longer a seller which is why i talk about the real deal, the real truth in the amazon jungle. Liz you also give advice to people who do want to be Third Party Sellers. We can put up your top three ideas that you say will help you become a better Third Party Seller. Youve got to own your own brand. Go with your private label. Capital, amazon is now sort of a paytoplay. You need an ad budget, enormous amount of agility. Got to be resilient and flexible because amazon evolves literally r under your feet. What would you say is the most important thing you learned by selling on amazon . Im an exmarine. What they taught us in officer candidate school is always have a plan but never fall in love with your plan because the minute you cross the line of departure your plan goes to youknowwhat. It falls apart. Thats the life of an amazon seller. I say this to my potential clients all the time. I was an exmarine and i was a big amazon top 200 seller, and i say the difference between the two is it was easier to be a marine than it is to be an amazon seller. Its no joke. It is a 365 event and thats whats required in order to succeed. Liz and if you read the book, amazon jungle, he gives you many more tips about this. But he also gives you the texture of what its like to be part of the amazon fabric. Jason, thank you for your service. Thank you for your story. We would love to have you back again. Jason boyce. Would love to be back. Thank you, liz. Liz any time. So for all the questions and complaints about amazon, you know, i always think about one entrepreneur who built a company from the ground up, ran it brillia brilliantly, even after amazon acquired it back in 2008. Tony shay, he grew up in illinois. While at harvard he sold pizza to make money. With a degree in computer science, he started building companies, eventually turning to selling shoes online. Zappos was officially born in 1999. Ten years later it had a billion in revenue and was snapped up, the whole thing, by amazon. Tony was a friend to this show. Even as he became a millionaire and then an 800 millionaire, after amazon acquired zappos, he remained kind and humble. He lived in an airstream trailer in vegas. He worked on philanthropic endeavors with the money he had made. He retired this past august at the age of 46. But on november 18th, while visiting family in connecticut, tony was trapped in a house fire saturday, two weeks before his birthday, tony succumbed to his injuries. The lame duck president getting his ducks in a row at this hour, issuing final executive orders and pardons in his remaining weeks in office but could one of President Trumps biggest targets still be in his crosshairs . To Charlie Gasparino and the next step for tiktok. Charlie . Charlie you know, people are doing a lot of tea leaf reading now on tiktok and where the president himself might come out. As you know, the cfius, the committee on Foreign Investment in the u. S. , extended the deadline to come up with some sort of arrangements that passes muster. That arrangement was with oracle to safeguard user data from the Chinese Communist party, which allegedly uses or spies on u. S. Citizens through the tiktok app. Extend that deadline to i believe the 4th of december. So its coming quickly, right, this week, maybe. While thats happening, people are trying to gauge the president s mood on whether he himself will just outright ban it, which is still a possibility. Heres what i know from people close to him. There is a degree of lobby going on. Triller is reaching out to Trump Administration officials, still trying to lobby for that ban. The president , from what i understand, at least in his heart from what i understand, still has reservations that the user data can be properly managed and kept away from the chinese parent company, bytedance, which a lot of people believe is controlled like all Chinese Companies, by the Chinese Communist party and may be using the data from for surveillance purposes. We do know people at the white house favor this oracle arrangement. Steve mnuchin has argued in the past, treasury secretary, that its probably not a great way to a great battle to fight right now. Lot of people like tiktok, have a big following among young people, maybe just dont want to alienate that. But that was before the election. The elections over now. Then theres the counterargument that is banning tiktok really going to hurt the gop chances of keeping the senate by swaying that Georgia Senate race, the runoff. Thats whats going on right now. One interesting tea leaf was issued i guess you could say this weekend, where donald trump jr. , do we have the tweet . Can we put that up there . I cant see. We should have his tweet. Liz yes. Its coming. Here it is. Charlie yeah. Its really interesting. He tweets out positively about tiktoks competitor, triller, which sponsored a saturday night fight night which was great. I watched it. Mike tyson battled, the key fight was mike tyson versus roy jones, two former champions. Liz but nate robinson, poor thing. Charlie poor thing. I saw that, too. It was a great night. But look, look what donald trump jr. Says about tiktok. Basically says you know, makes positive comments about triller and basically refers to tiktok as a front for the communist party. Doing surveillance on u. S. Citizens. So i mean, he said that in a tweet. A lot of people think hes one of the allies for those who want to ban tiktok. So thats where we are right now. Lots of tea leaf reading. Obviously its coming down, we are going to know soon. I cant imagine, maybe they will do another extension. Maybe they will just extend it to make it joe bidens problem in a couple months. Liz im officially addicted. Its embarrassing. I went down that rabbit hole. Charlie what is that, mr. Pasta . Liz he is so funny. Oh, my god. Im sorry. Is that annoying when i send you those . Im texting charlie tiktoks. Hes like could you leave me alone . Charlie liz, its great. The best one you sent me was the Italian American mother getting mad, you know, he does these things where heres what an American Mother does if you get sick or get out of line. Heres what an Italian American mother. But when he picked up the slipper, i had visages of my mother. He picked up the slipper, threw it . Thats exactly what my mother does. Liz oy vay. All right, listen, this is the algonquin roundtable and im sorry to interrupt but we have much more ahead. Charlie, thank you very much. Charlie gasparino. Corvus gold, gold rediscovered. Liz closing bell, folks, we are 3 1 2 minutes away. Yes there is red on the screen but we are about to close out the month of november, the dow and s p faltering a the moment, the same with the nasdaq down about 21 points but still we will rack up historic monthly performances. Nasdaq earlier hit and all time intraday high. It looks like it will miss out own what could have been its third record close in a row. In the meantime a lot of attention on the growth in Online Retail this cyber monday mid pandemic. What about the to roads, names supporting Online Retail business that take the to money, right . Lets bring in todays closer with two billion assets under management, dryden pence, chief investment officer. Dryden, great to see you. Give us your three names in the space. I will need you to whittle down if viewers can only by one of these stocks what would be . Liz, happy holidays. Very clear it is the toll roads. Three names come to mind, very essential. I would think shopify, visa, mastercard. They are the essential infrastructure no matter which store someone is trying to buy from online they have got to use some of these key infrastructure plays. Those are important. Shopify is number two to amazon. There are certainly Growth Opportunities there. Everybody has to talk to their own advisor but i think we have to look at those three as key players to infrastructure, the toll road to online shopping. Liz here i am can only by one, which one is it . If youre more aggressive, someone who is more aggressive would i take a look at shopify because it has a, it has a lot of room to grow. Now theyre doing doubledigit growth in a number of their metrics. Theyre number two behind amazon but there is tremendous amount of space and theyre essential to many people how they do this and their subscription model tends to work. If you had to pick one those are the kind of things in that space. Visa, mastercard, the payments are very, very essential. They are ones you have to v you cant buy without a payment system. So you need those. Liz right. I love its business model, talking about payment, youre paying too much. At least if you look at the pe ratio. Look at pe ratio of shopify compared to that of visa or mastercard. Shopify is at 283. Visa 37. Mastercard is 51. You are not worried about that . As i said it is the more aggressive of the three but if you think about back through history go back five or 10 years, Companies Like amazon grew dramatically. There was long period of time it had tremendously high pes as well. A company that is growing 40 yearoveryear. You will tend to see that. The pie continues to expand. Online goes up. You continue to see that. Liz look at nasdaq up six points. Folks, at the close that is a record. Connell see a bit after pull back after all. This is the best november for stocks ever. S p retreating from what was record territory. Nasdaq see how it closes. Give it a second or two to settle. Any gain would have been a record. Looks like it closes down by a few points, currently down by seven points. A losing streak across the board up 10 or more. In the dows clays almost
