Well the first thing maria to clarify is that the lawsuit in pennsylvania did not drop any of our main assertions and so what all of these reports coming out are ignoring are paragraphs 132 to 150 which actually do incorporating by reference all of the claims about not allowing these watchers to actually observe the ballots and so what a lot of journalist will do is just look at the big picture headlines the paragraph of the allegations of the counts. We cannot certify this election in the United States without answering where did this happen in all of these 29 states that use the Dominion Software because we know these were swives at least in michigan and second thing were focusing are on watchers and not allowed access as republicans and specifically denied looking at ball lolls ballot that is open and counted but it is not fully transparent those votes have to be invalidated so thats where our lawsuits are now focusing on and thats our legal strategy is both of those two angles we believe that we have enough in at least six states to change the outcome of this election. So do you, do you think youll be able to do this in the time allotted or asking states to push back their certification process . I think both. So initially the states absolutely should not certify false results and thats something that should give us more time. But even then we have until december 8th which is when the slate of electors are chosen and we believe that that certainly is enough time to go into court make our case, and in the alternative with we need more time we hope court will grant us that time because every american should want to make sure that the results are fair and legal and continue to have free and Fair Elections in this country. Retail sales report is out on tuesday. What are you seeing in terms of retail right now . Retail is very strong, as you mentioned. September retail sales were up 5 plus percent, the october that you just mentioned should be up almost 6 . Thats higher than the start of the year when retail sales were up about 4. 9 . The consumer with the cares act and all the lockdown, their savings are phenomenal right now. They have 2. 5 trillion in savings, which is 1. 2 trillion higher than the start of the year, plus they paid down 100 billion in debt. Consumer discrsh will be up 60 in earnings, 2x what the market is. There is definitely a lot of momentum thats happening in that area. All those companies that you talked about t walmarts, the home depot, their online conversion has been phenomenal, 16 of online sales, retail sales are online, and that has been driven by consumer behavioral change out of this pandemic. We could be getting ourselves a setup here, maria, for something that looked like the roaring 20s. Because out of kind of chaos and pandemic, people end up doing phenomenal things. Businesses get smarter. Businesses get tighter and cleaner. Productivity soars. So theres a lot of good things happening. Maria well, id love to see the roaring 20s after this 2020 disaster of the year. Katherine, then theres georgia, the peach state set for two Senate Runoff elections in january, that may very well dictate control of the senate and all the legislative power that goes along with it. These are super important. Have markets grasped the risk of the democrats taking the majority. What does it mean for tax cuts, deregulation, the green new deal, et cetera . The markets are up because of the vaccine, because theres an impression of a split division of power which means no massive corporate and individual tax hikes from the expected blue wave which didnt come to pass as we all know. But maria, i think theres a threefold risk. One is the fact that georgias not done. We have the january 5th runoff election. And if i would say its not a high probability but a nonnegligible one and massively underpriced and underappreciated risk by the march crests that both of those seats are ultimately won by the democrats and if thats the case, you have a 50 50 senate which Kamala Harris supposing she is the Vice President as the tie break. I think the market then has to price back Corporate Tax hikes, you know, a lot of the things that are very marketfriendly. So i think that its a very big risk, underappreciated. Maria by the way, would you buy pharma stocks on this vaccine news, katherine, when you see whats going on in terms of moderna and pfizer, biontech, 90 plus percent effective on these vaccines. Do you want to buy these stocks here or wait it out. I would actually not be buying. I would be selling the market today. I think that everything thats possibly good in the world has been priced in and vaccines do not mean immediater rad case. Advisors of biden say theyre not going to pursue a National Lockdown which i dont think is constitutionally allowed. That doesnt mean in the interim when we get the vaccines that there wont be state by state enormous lockdowns that will put a damper on growth. I think we need to be cautious. I think we need to maria all right. Katherine, look, if youre going to sell stocks, jack, do you want to buy bonds . Let me ask about fixed income. Bonds backed by consumer loans returning 10 last month according to data from citigroup. Household spending less, saving more, amid the covid19 economic downturn. Do you want to focus on consumer backed bonds or Something Else within fixed income. You want to focus on yield. Were in a yield starved world right now. Europe has negative yielding bonds. Treasuries dont offer anything. Theres pentup capital to go along with pentup savings. In a world that well be biased towards risk again, i think the moderna news is great because the power of the competitive market, each one of these vaccines is going to become better and better. The issue with the pfizer is logistics. Moderna can be stored at a lower temperature so thats all positive. Theres a lot of fire power from the consumer, more on the service side of things as opposed to on the goods side. Weve been, as consumers, weve been spending and buying things above where we were precovid. A lot of consumer names have a lot of good news already discounted in them. Dagen i think it would be very difficult assuming that everything goes ahead as kind of expected at this point and joe bidens inaugurated in january for him as the president to reverse these orders. Because again, if youre targeting abuses by chinese companies, abuses by the communist party, how are you going to legitimately reverse what the president did . How will you make an excuse for that . If the crackdown is targeting, again, behavior by the communist government that threatens the United States. Maria yeah. I mean, what you have is the 1 million uyghurs in concentration camps which is what weve spoken about a lot but even more impactful to the United States is the theft of intellectual property and the forced transfer of technology. The president you apparently has had it and will put these measures in place likely, youre right, making it tough for anyone to reverse them. Your reaction . Yeah, definitely really great news and i think after we saw the pfizer news, because theres a similar technology, we were anticipating the Moderna Vaccine would be similarly successful. I think its even better news because of the storage issue that this can be kept at refrigerator temperatures for a month and doesnt need that minus 70, minus 80 80 degrees t pfizer does. This is easier to give. Maria dr. Adalja, the last time we spoke we talked about this category of drugs, this is the messenger rna vaccine. Thats certainly the vaccine from pfizer and biontech, using genebased technology mrna. Can you tell me about that . Sure. So mrna stands for messenger rna. This is something that weve all thought would be a very elegant way to solve this problem with Infectious Disease vaccines being made quickly. All you need is the sequence of the gene that immune system is to respond to and you basically print that out and inject that genetic sequence into a person and your cells start to make that protein which then your immune system reacts to so it is very quick. It is not sort of all of these experiments, you have to do with the virus, you can basically do it as soon as you sequence it. With the new technologies we have, this can make a vaccine candidate come to fruition very rapidly and go into Clinical Trials rapidly. The question was how well do they work . With pfizer and moderna reporting astonishing results, i think mrna Vaccine Technology is going to take off for all sorts of uses. Maria interesting, moderna is up 14 but biontech and pfizer are trading down. Does this news do anything to the pfizer, biontech situation, why investors would see this as a negative for pfizer and biontech . We need as many vaccines as possible. I think that the fact that we have more than one to choose from because theres going to be such a demand, this is the actual the entire world needs to be vaccinated. So the more companies that are out there the better it is. I dont think we can think of trading one off for the other. I think were going to have a menu. I think thats the best situation to be able to choose from. The more capacity we have, the more vaccines, the better. Maria Dagen Mcdowell, jump in. Dagen i would point out and dr. Adalja touched on this that the Pfizer Vaccine requires ultra cold storage of its like more than negligence difficult its about negative 94 degrees paren fahrenheit so s Moderna Vaccine can be stored in a refrigerator and kept stable for 30 of days that, would give the Moderna Vaccine potentially a leg up. Ups is working on a freezer farm in kentucky, just to deliver the Pfizer Vaccine. But dr. Adalja, a quick question. How many vaccines do you think in the United States will be available, say, at the end of january . Will we also see i think Johnson Johnson is the single shot versus the double shot which is pfizer and moderna but also the astrazeneca. Is it possible we have four different Vaccines Available by the end of january . I think its possible that they all have emergency use authorization. Have you to remember that in january, well still most likely be vaccinating if anybody high risk individuals, healthcare workers. I think its still were looking at a time line of well into 2021 before the general public has access to it. We will be starting to roll out more and more plans for first responders, people that have high risk conditions, and that is a substantial proportion of the population. I think it would be very impactful when that group of people gets vaccinated because it will change the pressure on hospitals which what is were always worried about, if you can get the high risk individuals hospitalized, and this Moderna Vaccine looks very good at preventing severe disease, you have you a different landscape of the pandemic of people are not in the hospitals and hospitals are not stressed. Maria yeah, i mean, thats another thing that moderna executives are saying, that the vaccine also showed signs of being safe. Researchers and regulators have to wait for more complete safety data from this study. Its expected in late november. It is going to ask federal authorities by early december to clear that vaccine so we are going to have options, youre right, on the vaccine front. Moderna shares are moving fast. Tell us about your experience this morning on the pfizer drug. Thanks, ma maria. Great to be here. Im a provaccine legislator, i helped pass legislation in albany that narrowed the exemption in the wake of a Measles Outbreak last year that sickened 1,000 people or more in new york state most of them children. I feel strongly about the safety and efficacy of vaccines. I went online to the nyu Vaccine Center and signed up for the pfizer trial. I had two doses in august, one in early august, one in late. Some minimal side effects but im feeling great. And im feeling very confident that this is going to help defeat the virus, given the news we heard this morning and last week and given my own experience that the side effects are minimal and its certainly worth the peace of mind, protecting others and making sure that we can fight our way out of this pandemic. Maria its unbelievable that pfizer tells us that their vaccine was 90 effective and then this morning of moderna comes out with its vaccine, 94. 5 effective. Even better. This is the kind of competition we want. What were the side effects exactly . Tell us how long you were on the drug, what those side effects were and how long before you actually felt and impact. Well, you know, the first dose was the smaller dose apparently of the two. I had a headache that lasted a few days. Not sure whether it was related because the onset was several days after the dose. The second dose definitely showed some impact. I had fever, chills, some aches and some fatigue. But you know, it sounds very similar to what one might have received if they got a shingles vaccine, for example. Those doses were about three, three andahalf weeks apart. And i feel great now and mostly i feel great because of the peace of mind. But whats important, maria, is that we make it clear to the public that the vaccine nice is fantastic but we need americans to take the vaccine and we need an efficient Distribution Plan to actually get the vaccine to states so that their citizens can have access to vaccines. Maria great point. So dr. Makary, take that one. Do you see any object of take kells in terms of the in terms of the vaccine distribution, in terms of people taking the vaccine. The fact that the Moderna Vaccine can be stored with refrigeration is a big deal. The freezer situation is a distribution hurdle. Were going to overcome the hurdles. One of the biggest concerns is whether or not minority Communities Trust the medical establishment enough to take the vaccine. The good news is despite 17 of africanamericans saying theyre willing to take the vaccine, 37 of those in the moderna trial were minorities and 42 had a major comorbidity. This is the exact test population. The side effect that senator hoylman is describing is standard for vaccines. We see it with flu shot all the time. Its the bodys immune system responding. When your bodys immune system responds to anything, even a simulated infection, you get a fever. Its your bodys way of trying to rid yourself of an infection. Maria were going to speak in a few minutes with the ceo of moderna. What are the most important questions that youd like to hear from him in terms of this efficacy rate of 94. 5 on his covid19 vaccine . Well, first of all, im curious what the interim results may have showed prior to today. I mean, when you have a vaccine thats this efficacious, sometimes you wonder and you look back and you say why didnt we know about the interim ruts sooner. All we look for is a greater than 50 efficacy in the interim trials. But also, whats the profile of those complications of fever, of muscle aches, those are very common things that are typically with the flu shot. 1 to 2 will have a fever, up to 5 will either have some mild soreness at the site or muscle aches. So those are questions that id be interested in. Maria uh huh. And what about that, senator . Did you have any of that, that dr. Makary is talking about . Sure. It was mild. It went away within 24 hours. Like the doctor said, it was not too different from flu shot or a shingles vaccine. And i think its important that the public know that going into it because whats also interesting, maria, is that for the first time were going to have a vaccine that citizens can test whether they have antibodies or not because you can walk down to your urgent care clinic and get an Antibody Test and see whether in fact you had the antibody. So its going to be a real check on the efficacy of the different vaccines and the citizens hands which is going to be i think pretty astounding news for individuals after they get the vaccine. Maria so were you feeling sick before you went on this drug, senator . No, not at all. In fact, i didnt get covid19. My entire family seems to have gotten it, my two daughters and my husband which is one of the reasons why i wanted to sign up for the trial to do my part. Also, as a gay man, if i had covid19, i couldnt donate blood or plasma. Modernas vaccine breakthrough, moderna this morning issuing bombshell news earlier, when it said that their vaccine is more than 94 effective, the vaccine for covid19 news has the stock up 15 right now. Joining me right now is the ceo of moderna, stephane bancel. Its great to have you this morning. Congratulations to you and all the phenomenal work your scientists have done. Tell me about it. Good morning, maria. Thank you for having us. So were very excited to announce this morning that the vaccine at this first interim analysis of phase three, the real test, placebo control has shown 94. 5 efficacy. The thing im most excited about is for severe disease we had 11 cases and all those 11 people were on placebo. Meaning people who got our vaccine did not get any severe disease which is of course a gamechanger. Maria that is an incredible gamechanger. It shows that signs of being safe as well. Can you tell me what you learned from this trial and what happens next . Yes. So the safety is very similar to what we published in our phase one study. You have some transient selfresolving side effects, at the site of injection, a bit of pain, a bit of redness. Some people have a bit of headache, a bit of fatigue. What comes next is in the coming weeks we will finalize the study. It was 151 cases, the full study. Today we have 95 cases for first interim an analysis and we will file this with the fda to try to get emergency use approval. We are in discussions with the fda all along and in the coming weeks well file this and if the fda deems appropriate to get the vaccine in the hands of people that need it, people at high risk, through working with cdc. Maria so that would be the priorities, once you do have that wider use. What is your timetable in terms of getting that wider use for this vaccine . Yes. So this emergency use approval i think could happen in december and i think in q1, in the First Quarter, to have a full approval where every american who wants a vaccine that is of 18 years of age or older can get access to a vaccine. We are very soon going to start a study in teenagers and im hopeful we might get the results by the summer. So if a vaccine is proved to be effective and safe in children, that they could get potentially vaccinated next summer so they go back to school in september 21, they are back to school in a normal lifestyle. Maria that is phenomenal news, let me ask you, were the people in the trial already sick . Because i know what we have here is news that this covid19 vaccine can prevent getting sick, right . You can prevent it. Exactly. Its a vaccine. You give it to Healthy People. We tested the participants before we gave the first dose to make sure they werent sick with covid. What we waited for, thats what you do in vaccine testing, you wait for cases, you wait for people to get the virus an get disease and you compare the people that get the vaccine versus the people that get placebo. The study was 15 you thousand 1. We just waited. Because there are so many cases in the country now, this went very, very fast. Last wednesday we announced that instead of having 53 cases for the first analysis, we ended up having 95 cases. The study is almost finished. Maria what about the refrigeration part of this . It needs to be freezing cold and that gives it a longer shelf life. Tell me about the refrigeration and how that will work with the distribution. Yes, thats the great news this morning that actually we learned on friday at the company, we achieved the vaccine has six months of shelf life in regular freezer, minus 20 celsius like the freezer at home to store your frozen nooned ice cream. These freezers are widely available at pharmaceutical Distribution Centers because fda approved products require the storage. We have seven days for stability in a regular fridge and now we have as of this morning 30 days of stability, where you can take the product out of the freezer, in a Big Distribution Center like mckesson, will do distribution for the u. S. Government. And then you put it in the fridge, regular fridge like you store insulin at cvs or walgreens or the dr. Thats a big change in terms of usability of the product. Thats what were excited about. Maria tell me about the grades. Its actually a shot, right . This is an injection . Yes, its like a typical vaccine. You clean your arm with a product to make sure you dont get consistent ta contaminated. You inject the vaccine and put on a bandaid and its finished. Its like when you get your flu shot at the local cvs or wall green. It will be the same thing. Maria fan tack i fantastic. Did you take it as well . I did not take it yet. This is unethical for an employee of a company to be part of a study because the thinking is that we might not report side effects. But as soon as im allowed to take it, i want the vaccine. So does my wife and my daughter, who is already 18 years of age. My younger one who is 16 is not happy she cant get the vaccine yet. Shell have to wait until the summer. Maria that is so fantastic. Youre talking about 20 million doses or 10 million courses, this is two shots per course . Walk us through it. Yes. So were going to have 40 million doses by the end of the year. You can give a prime dose, the first dose to 20 million people. By the time they need the boost in january, well have more vaccine made. So well get the boost from another batch of product that we will send to the u. S. Government. Maria this has the edge on the pfizer news as well. I mean, after a course, we want a nice competition in terms of having plenty of options here. But the refrigeration temperature for up to 30 of days and Room Temperature once you thatted for up to 12 hours, thats actually even more effective than what we heard from pfizer last week. Is that right . So our vaccine i think is very user friendly now. Before seven days was a bit tight but was wor workable. Now we have for the nurses and the doctors, it is going to be much easier. I think its going to reduce waste. All of us are making as many vaccine as we can but not enough for every american right away. I worry about wasting. I think its going to be an important tool. So its user friendly for nurse and doctor and we reduce waste. Maria i love what you said in the release about safety. A couple of things to point out that we should is that while its very small numbers, the secondary end point of severe cases is encouraging. You said all 11 occurring in the Placebo Group and the safety looks relatively clean. Tell me about the safety of this drug as well. Yes, of course. And the safety obviously with vaccine is really important because you give vaccine to Healthy People so this is really our number one priority. As you say, maria, if you look at that time data, and i look at the data and i had the chance yesterday and we were able to see the data, people getting the vaccine. What you see is that the second dose we have a bit of side effects locally, a bit of pain, a bit of red notice. It goes away redness. It goes away by itself. Some people have a bit of a headache. Its nice to note that the fever level is less than 2 of people get fever, actually 1. 4 , so very, very low. Its like a typical vaccine, when you have you a bit of side effects. They will selfresolve. Weve also been taking medication, like when you get a flu shot, you dont feel great, go to bed, next day youll be fine. Its a good thing. Having a bit of immune reaction is a good signal that your immune system is working because the vaccine is being activated. Maria yeah. You want to know that. Its a nice reminder there, right. So talk to us about the manufacturing rampup that you no doubt are going to have. You said that you are going to be applying for emergency usage in the coming weeks. What does that mean . Two weeks . Three weeks . Whats your time line . And then walk us through the rampup in manufacturing and distribution that youre expecting. Yes. So in the next few weeks, its tough to know precisely at this stage because we need to count cases in the study before we have 151 case so its tough to be precise. What you want to ensure is that we have time to do good Quality Control check of all of the data that well submit to the fda because of course this is extremely important and quality of a vaccine review process is fundamental for the public trust so. We want to be careful to go fast but not to rush or make mistakes of course. And the fda will review and i expect in a few weeks well be able to get approval. Maria its really fantastic news.
