Not quite as thrilling after day as we had yesterday. Ashley connell it, would be hard to repeat. S p and nasdaq dropping because of a covid 19 vaccine fading a little bit. Investors pull out money from the tech companies, that benefited most from the pandemic. Look at the dow and s p and nasdaq down. I want to get tech stocks red across the screen. Microsoft, facebook, nvidia, Big Semiconductor conductor down 6 . Adobe systems down 4 . A lot of the stocks higher on the year but a victim of the rotation of money out of tech. If it is coming out of big tech where is it going . Lets take a look. Consumer defensive names. Companies likes walmart, costco, target, proctor gamble. There they all are. Weve gone from a red skeen to a green screen. Target, all the others also higher. Industrial stocks giving boost from a csx railroad gaining more than 3 as did ge, right around 3 . Raytheon up 4 1 2 . We should mention boeing, gaining more than, well, see in the final analysis 5. 2 . It was up more than that earlier in the day. The company didnt sell any aircraft in october and received more cancellations for the 737 max but a reuters report claims the faa is set to lift the grounding order on 737 max planes. Could be as early as november the 18th. Boeing up 5 . We also saw the price of oil continue to move higher. Crude closing up 2. 8 or thereabouts at 41. 38. Continues to go up on the belief that the worlds economy will slowly start getting back together. Also helping the Energy Sector today that became the leader in the session. I had to throw this one in, one of the standout stocks, ulta beauty, the stock gaining close 7 or thereabouts, there it is 7. 4 , after announcing a deal it will open hundreds of shops in target stores. Investors love that. So did the stock. Connell . Connell there you go, well take that. That is a big gain. Ashley, thank you. That is the day on wall street. Lets move to the fight against covid19 right now. The fda is giving emergency approval to eli lillys antibody treatment. That big news on the heels of the Pfizer Vaccine trial released yesterday. Blake burman on the north lawn. A lot of people are talking about this around the white house, blake. What can you tell us in terms of distribution of this treatment . Reporter this is the eli lilly therapeutic bamlanivimab. As it is called. This is the numbers behind it for officials with operation warp speed. The u. S. Government will buy 300 doses for a price tag of 375 million. The distribution will start in the coming days. The therapeutic is designed to with goal of highrisk patients out of hospitals. It is through iv in an outpatient setting however it is not recommended for hospitalized patients nor is it recommended for patients that require oxygen. You pair that with the announcement from pfizer yesterday and clearly it is backtoback days with positive headlines on the medical front but on the economic front, the prospect for a stimulus package remains grim. Listen here to Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell acknowledging that the same hurdles still remain. We need to thank about if were going to come up with a bipartisan package here about what size is appropriate. It seems to me that snag, that hung us up for months is still there. I dont think the Current Situation demands multitrillion dollar package. Reporter connell, the Senate Majority leader saying he wants a targeted package that means roughly the 500 billion or so that Senate Republicans have been talking about for quite some time which is roughly 20 of the 2. 2 trillion that House Democrats have been negotiating with the white house about. Connell . Connell wonder if those two stories, blake, are related in any way. Some on wall street seem to think they might be. We got good news on the vaccine. Good news it seems on treatment. Because of that the odds of a large stimulus package being passed might go down. I dont know what youre hearing out of white house where they stand on things . Reporter there are some connell who tell you the odds have been low from the getgo. There have been folks talking to for months who were very pessimistic at the possibility of a deal getting reached before the election and now fast forward to after the election, what has really changed . The only thing that we know thats changed is there is a lame duck president. Republicans in the senate, democrats in the house are still miles apart, really hundreds of billions of dollars apart. So you still got to question as you heard there from the Senate Majority leader how those hurdles are overcome at this point. Connell . Connell yeah. All right. Good enough. Thank you, blake burman as always on the north lawn of the white house. Edward lawrence is reporting today from the Supreme Court. A lot of action there as well. Seems like we got a pretty strong hint whether the Affordable Care act might be overturned today. Tell us what we heard . Reporter exactly, connell. There are glaring clues which way this may go. Justice kavanaugh he could see, he agreed that the individual mandate being peeled away in the Affordable Care act still standing. Chief Justice John Roberts who broke away in 2012, was the deciding vote to keep obamacare, he said this today, listen. I think its hard for you to argue that congress intended the entire act to fall if the mandate were struck down when the same congress that lowered the penalty to zero did not even try to repeal the rest of the act. I think frankly that they wanted the court to do that but that is not our job. Reporter the oral arguments lasted a little longer than two hours. We will not get a decision until early 2021. Now most of the justices seem to agree with this argument by the lawyers supporting obamacare. Listen. The tax and structure that congress created when it enacted that amendment confirms the presumption of severability because congress made 5000a unenforceable and chose to leave every other provision in place. The remaining provisions are not just capable of functioning independently, they have been functioning perfectly well ever since. Reporter lawyers looking to overturn obama care said individual mandate is one side of a tripod, you remove the one leg the tripod should fall. The government overstepped their bounds forcing everyone to get health care. Well see officially in 2021 how this decision goes. Connell . Connell were used to audio only sound bite from the Supreme Court. There is never cameras inside. The audio is best we can hope for. Usually everybody taking part is in the room. They did it Via Teleconference today. If so how did that change the die maam you can . Exactly. Coronavirus changed everything. Normally it is in the big room inside the building behind me. Today everyone was on a teleconference call n the room, in a normal year, it is rapid fire where justices interrupt the lawyers making presentations what not. Now they were very organized. Because it was teleconference. Every justice got five minutes. They moved to the next justice with questions. Moved to the next justice. Started with opening argument maybe a minute. Ending final argument after minute for the lawyers. It wasnt that rapid fire where it is really testing knowledge of those lawyers there. Connell that is interesting because they always say thats the hardest part about arguing before the Supreme Court if youre, if youre a lawyer, those challenging questions. Edward, thank you. Edward lawrence from the court today we also heard from Vice President elect biden about obamacare. Hillary vaughn from wilmington delaware. Hillary . Reporter connell, president elect joe biden says he does see the need for legal action. That is different tone from his team took after one option. General Services Administration was delaying the decision on ascertaining the outcome ever the president ial election. That delay, because it essentially puts bidens transition in limbo. Cuts off 6 million of federal money t stops access to classified information. President biden says he is not worried. We can get through without the funding. Access to classified information is, is useful. It would be nice to have it but it is not critical. Reporter biden says the president not conceding does not hurt his progress on a smooth transition but does hurt President Trumps legacy. He also responded to questions about silence on the republican side from some senators who have not acknowledged his win yet. I havent had a chance to speak to mitch. My expectations is that i will do that not too distant future. I think that the whole Republican Party is been put in a position with a few notable exceptions of, being mildly intimidated by the sifting president. Reporter biden also said today, connell that he did speak with Speaker Pelosi and encouraged her to get some type of a relief bill done because he said people are waiting on relief and they need it today. Connell . Connell on that point though you made about not speaking to some of the republicans he didnt speak to mitch, meaning Mitch Mcconnell. That is one thing. Well see how that plays out. He did speak to some World Leaders today though, didnt he . Reporter he did, connell. He did that without the state department facilitating that. That is normally something that happens during the transition. Because of the gsa delaying this biden essentially decided to do it anyway. He talked with three members of nato, including german chancellor, angela merkel, the president of france, macron and Boris Johnson of the United Kingdom today. We expect that he will continue to make that progress without the gsa giving them the green light to officially start the transition. Connell . Connell all right. Well keep following it. At least you will, right . Hillary thank you. Hillary vaughn with the president elect in wilmington, delaware. We have a news of second shutdown in the news. U. S. Exceeded 100,000 coronavirus cases for the sixth day in a row. Well talk to dr. Mark mcclellan about the challenges moving forward. Embracing for a reversal. The democrat Cal Cunningham conceded the race to republican thom tillis. Cunningham in a statement saying the voters have spoken. I respect their decision. Senator tillis had his own response. Im incredibly humbled by the chance to serve people of North Carolina for six more years. Pledge to continue to keep my promises. Close race, won clearly by thom tillis. He will stay in the senate that one is official. Take a look at lyft. This is after the bell. Stock initially went down. It is up slightly. Were seeing a slow recovery for lyft but the company now looking for new ways to make up the loss in revenue. The president john zimmer believes there is an untapped market for lyft where they will offer Delivery Services for restaurants without launching a fullfledged platform for food delivery on the way uber has with ubereats. Partnering up i guess with some restaurants to do that. Instead of being down, is the initial reaction when earnings werent so hot, lyft stock is about break even here, up slightly. More to come on that. Meantime this drug that could reverse the course of the pandemic blake burman alluded to earlier, eli lilly receiving emergency fad approval on the antibody to treat mild and moderate Coronavirus Infections in adults and children. What could it mean and what will the challenges being when it comes to implementing the new treatment around the country . Dr. Mark mcclellan joins us from the Duke University center. Always good to have you. We heard of the eli lilly treatment when the president came down with covid. Now they will try to roll it out. How big of a deal is it . Connell, this is important. Its a treatment that in the early clinical studies, these were welldone Clinical Trials shows substantial reduction in the risk of hospitalization. That is especially important for older people. People who have other illnesses and people who are obese. Very important reduction much risk, perhaps as much as from 10 risk of hospitalization down to 3 . The big challenge is, as you were just saying is going to be making this treatment available. It has got to be given through an infusion. You cant do it at home. Cant do it at a pharmacy. Got to do it with a special facility set up for Covid Patients so nobody else gets sick. It has to be done pretty quickly after you develop symptoms. This is another reminder why, if you have symptoms, especially if youre in a risk group, it is important to get tested, to find out if youre positive. Now not just a matter of isolating, but potentially getting access to treatment, if you have symptoms that could turn around and affect the course of illness for you . That is Important Message how important if it is to be tested. Even if you feel fine. Youre exposed, traveling, whatever the case may be, this could come in handy. We didnt get to speak to you since the news came out yesterday from pfizer. That was Something Else to see 90 effectiveness. What is your level of excitement . What would you say overall about this pfizer trial with its vaccine . You know, i think putting both of these together it is good news for the longer term course of pandemic. Hopefully this will be the last big wave. Unfortunately its a tough one. The weeks ahead are going to get worse before they get better but with the Monoclonal Antibody we talked about, people with symptoms, they should get tested, and potentially help avoid a hospitalization with it, that will improve their outcomes, reduce the burden on the health care system. The Pfizer Vaccine if things go well from here, there are still some ifs, could be available starting later on in september to the very highest risk groups, gradually in a staged way rolling out to more americans. It works in a similar way to other vaccines in advanced testing. We should have, if those go as well as pfizer, we should have more vaccine available over the first half of 2021. That really is a gradual course out of the pandemic. In the meantime still need to Pay Attention to testing and were still in the midst of very tough wave of cases right now. Connell right. Because of that i think it does bring up a really important question for people like you on Human Behavior and how people should respond to this news, right . So if someone hears about the eli lilly treatment or is reading about the Pfizer Vaccine would you give them advice that is any different in terms of how they operate in their own lives or maybe if they own a business how theyre planning for their employees than you would have given them in march or april or earlier this year when we didnt know as the treatment the way it is. Connell what were seeing is more businesses shutting down, restricting hours. More cities, were not going to a national lockdown, areas especially hard hit dialing back. More School Districts announcing theyre not planning on reopening in the near future. That is all going in the wrong direction for the economy and recovery. What we can do now is continue the steps, build on steps we know work, distancing, wearing masks. We have a lot more testing becoming available. So rapid tests that can be helpful, helping sports leagues, businesses stay open. We can make those more widely available in the coming weeks but we still need to keep the layers of protections in place to slow down the growth in cases that is happening now and to really get the last big wave under control as we head into and through the first part of 2021. Thats the best way to recovery. Not any changes in the steps that we know work right now. Connell all right. It is always good to see you. We always appreciate your insights on these issues. Well keep calling on you. Dr. Mark mcclellan with us. Formerly with the fda. Now at duke. We have the most active Hurricane Season on record to continue reporting on. Both side are preparing resources for the battle ahead. Foxs Jonathan Serrie reporting live from atlanta. Jonathan . Reporter connell, tomorrow florida senator marco rubio will be headlining a rally here in georgia for the two republican senators and democrat, former democratic president ial candidate andrew yang tweeted he will temporarily move to georgia during the campaign to help democrats. Republican senators david perdue, Kelly Loeffler face runoff elections on january 5th with partisan control of the senate in play. Spending eight weeks up to the runoffs could exceed, estimated 200 million, democrats and republicans spent during the general election campaigns for both seats leading up to the november election. Democratic activist Stacey Abrams helped raise 9. 8 million. The money split between her Voting Organization rights and warnock and, jon ossoff. They believe liberal motivatetores will stay because of joe bidens Strong Performance in this once red state. Hard to believe in a new south every single election we come this close. Were lucy around the football. This time we made the field goal. Reporter because of all the national interests, these races are focused on national themes. You have the Democratic Candidates accusing the republicans of trying to repeal Insurance Coverage for people with preexisting conditions. And you have republicans accusing democrats of trying to spread socialism. Connell . Back to you. Connell yeah, some story, jonathan. Really is. Before you go there was that story out there yesterday with both republican senators came out of and they called for the top Elections Official in the state, who i believe also a republican to step down. That was something as well. Whatever happened with that . Reporter connell, the secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger who is not only republican but also a fellow trump supporter says he has no intentions whatsoever of stepping down. He says that he shares the frustration of the republican senators and how the race turned out particularly for President Trump but as far as any election irregularities he says that he will investigate any complaints. He expects as with any race to find some people who may not have been qualified to vote but he doesnt believe the numbers will be high enough to influence the outcome of the race. Connell all right. Good enough. Jonathan, thank you. Well keep watching it, atlanta, georgia, all eyes on georgia. Charlie hurt, joins us, the Washington Times opinion editor to talk about those races. Charlie a Fox News Contributor as well. There is, the other dynamic here, i dont know what you make of this, but i was watching joe bidens News Conference and he was asked about the senate. There is this theory out there maybe biden doesnt necessarily want the democrats to win both of these races and have, of course he said that he does. He said obviously would be better off to have control of the senate but there is this theory out there maybe biden, the old school moderate would vert have an excuse in Mitch Mcconnell. You know what . You republicans take one of these races im okay with it. What do you think about georgia and the overall dynamic . Well certainly with a civil war going on within his own partys ranks which has been covered up over the last four years because of the, because of trump being in the white house and the sort of dynamic between him and republicans on capitol hill, people have sorted missed this civil war that is clearly dividing the Democratic Party and of course if biden has to put up with a Republican Senate then that does sort of let some of the steam off. That said, you know, democrats and progressives in the Democratic Party are absolutely hellbent getting the senate and assuming that dan sullivan wins as it looks like he will win in alaska, assuming that, the best democrats can hope for is to get a 5050 cut. But that requires they win both of the races in georgia which is a tall order in any year but a especially with these two candidates, the two democrats running right now, neither of which, neither of whom won in their splintered general election races. But you know, here is the thing. I suspect that democrats are going to spend a lot of money on this they will work very hard for this but big donors have spent nearly a quarter of a billion dollars on three races that their donor class was told they had a real shot at winning. They lost all three of those big races by nearly or more than double digits. And the question is, are those big money donors going to fall for this again and come out to georgia and dump another half, you know, quarter of a billion, another 100 million or 200 million in a couple of races . Or will they look back, you know what . We will go with divided government. Connell you know, that goes back to the same old question i started with, maybe this is reading way into it. I wonder if the big donors are really from the far left of the party, or they are the people that are the kind of socially liberal, moderate on economic issues, wall street type democrats that are to your point would be fine with the divided government . Will it be harder for the democrats to be as aggressive some in the party want to be . Yeah. I think the most enuse a in the party is definitely on the far, more progressive wing of things and so theyre going it, theyre going to at least be open of the idea going to dump a lot of money into these two races. I wouldnt want to be a tv viewer in georgia for the next two months. That is for certain. But the other side of things. This is really important, nobody in georgia showed up to vote for joe biden. Everybody in georgia, were voting for or against donald trump showed up because donald trump was on the ballot. That was the big motivating factor. For me i think that with donald trump not being on the ballot i think a whole lot of people will stay home. I dont think well see the turnout in the special election we saw in the general election. My gut is that ultimately ends up hurting people like jon ossoff, who really needs that really motivated, progressive voter out there in order to make this a close race, or out right win this race. Connell you know, that makes a lot of sense. It is probably true. It is probably a good bet. The only thing i would say that governors race a couple years ago was pretty close. That of course had nothing to do donald trump wasnt on the ballot. And it is also 2020. So only a jackass tries to make any prediction about anything that happens but then again it will be 2021. Maybe the curse will be off and maybe sanity will rein again in, come january. Connell that is so true. Will be january 5th. Thats right. Everything will be back to quote, unquote normal again. Everything will be like we will. Thank you, charlie hurt on the georgia race. Gives us something to follow. It will be really important for the next couple weeks. Gone dark. New york city officials sounding the alarm of covid19 infections. Businesses are worried in new york about a new round of shutdowns. One industry has not been able to turn back the lights on in a long time. Well talk about. Before nexium 24hr, anna could only imagine a comfortable nights sleep without frequent heartburn waking her up. Now, that dream. Is her reality. Connell take a look as we come back at the stock price one more time of lyft. You remember when we showed it earlier in the show it had just turned slightly higher but it is up significantly, up 6 . Earnings came out after the bell. Investors liked to talk about the Food Delivery Service for restaurants. The idea to use that to help offset the drop recently in revenue. Either way up almost 6 1 2 for lyft. We said we would talk about new york city. Here is the mayor. Lets look at the sevenday rolling average as the truest figure. That is 3. 21 . Not someplace we want to be. Still time, clearly to turn back this second wave. Still, if we do the work possible for all of us to do we can turn this back but this is a warning sign if ever i have seen one. Connell that is just new york. Overall the u. S. Reaching that new milestone of 10 million coronavirus cases. A number of states are gearing up for the potential of new restrictions to be put in place. In california, San Francisco is rolling back reopening of indoor dining, capacity of fit nescienters and movie theaters. State of utah a mask mandate. Wisconsin hit a sevenday record of cases. They had a tough time in wisconsin. Cities are loosening up restrictions. New orleans one of the hardhit areas, moving forward with a new phase. A mixed picture. As we move to the situation here in new york, we want to talk about one of the hardest hit areas broadway. Michael is a author at the New York Post and author of a new book. He host as fine radio show in wor in new york, with the great len berman. He had terrific guests on the show when i when listening for a while. I actually heard myself. Thank you, michael. Talk about the book in a little book, in some detail but this whole idea of broadway which you covered for years, not only being shut down, but there is no sign of life. How are people doing in the theater business . It must be ridiculously tough . Yeah. It is very hard. I have never really seen anything like it. I covered the attack on the world trade center. For a moment we thought can broadway come back after that. Times square was a terrorist target. Fears that terrorists would take over a theater and hold people hostage. Within two days, at insistence of mayor giuliani, broadway was lit again within two days of the world trade center. And within one year, they announced they would close down if broadway back in march. Most of us who work in the theater, two weeks, four weeks tops. Eight months later there is still no end in sight. My sense you cant have broadway again until you have a vaccine. Until actors feel safe to go to work. Musicians feel safe to go to work. Used yens feels safe to go into a theater to sit with 1500 other people that will take at least until 2022. That is a staggering loss to the economy of new york. Broadway pumps two to three billion dollars a year into this economy. You will be without that for two years. It employs 90,000 people. If youre huge actor, nathan lane, these guys are comfortable, they will be fine. Think of ushers, stagehands, kids in the chorus, all those people earning middle class livelihoods . They have not had an income for the last eight months. They wont have an income for the next year, yearandahalf. Connell reading in the big shows you mentioned, hamilton, grossing 2 to 3 million bucks every week, every week theyre grossing. All that is gone. Japan is running a mama mia production in japan. They Temperature Check people. Social distance, which to me would be almost impossible with broadway heaters in new york. They social distance. Everybody wearing a mask. Theyre at least running this show. That wont happen here, huh . No i dont think so. I have to hand it to andrew lloyd weber, wrote cats, phantom of the opera. He is looking how to seat people in theaters he owns in london. He is trying to get the business up and running. So far i dont see that happening. I dont see that happening here in new york. The other problem we have too, connell, new york was the epicenter of the pandemic for a long time. You may be able to open the broadway shows in a year, a yearandahalf. The unknown is when are tourists going to feel comfortable coming back to a city where the virus spread and spread so quickly . When will they feel comfortable to come here and go take a broadway show . We wont know that for a long time to come. Connell so in the meantime they can read your book, right . It was funny. I was joking on your radio show this morning. I have a copy, that i use here as a door stop in my home studio which is only half few. I spent a lot of the day reading through it. For people that missed shows, michael has been writing for broadway for years and years at the post, if you want to get an idea about broadway, singular sensation. You focused on the 90s. Why was that the topic you talked about . That was a decade where you had shows like rent, chicago. The lion king, the producers. As big as any tv show during the 90s. Broadway was in the back water of the entertainment business it became once again at the center of american Popular Culture in the 90s. These shows, the rent, the lion king made billions of dollars.
