White house medical director sean conley telling reporters today that the next seven days will be critical. And should the president display any symptoms by monday the country would have to prepare for the president to take some treatment but conversely if he has no signs of covid19 the nation ney rest assured that he is clear of the disease. The president is taking antiviral drug of remdesivir while he is at the white house. There he will be directly monitored by a staff of highly Trained Medical professionals. Doctor, great to have you with us. A remarkable 72 hours for the nation and the president to see the way this man reacted to treatment lifts the hearts of all americans. Your thoughts. It does. It shows the president wanting go back to the white house shows me the team believes he is on the mend. They wouldnt take the risk with the risk bringing him back to walter reed. So the fact he is at home means he is on the way to health. Probably feeling pretty good right now. He has had the very advanced therapies. They should be decreasing the viral load in his body. So he is going to be getting stronger every day i believe. Now as dr. Conley said there is risk. The risk it comes roughly day seven to 10. They will be monitoring very closely. Fortunately the white house medical unit is very wellstaffed and equipped and experienced to be able to do the kind of monitoring and ongoing treatments that the president needs but if something went awry, they do have the opportunity, the option of going back to walter reed. But i think the fact that theyre home means that they dont think that is going to be happening. Lou to see the quickness and effectiveness of this treatment, bringing together these treatments that as dr. Conley said are available across the country to all of us citizens is really remarkable. Well, and it is but it also shows we dont know everything about this virus and very, very importantly this virus doesnt affect everybody the same way amounts weve seen over time the illness rate, i dont mean the infection rate, but the rate of people that get very sick with this virus has gone down. The reason for that is multifold. One people who are at risk, they take care of themselves. Two, that we know better how to treat this virus and now we have treatments that we did not have early on. That is why im always a little bit upset when i hear various organizations, very much focusing on the total numbers of disease because the total numbers of disease and unfortunately deaths include that time period when we really didnt know how to prevent, how to mitigate and importantly how to manage those people that were really sick. What is more important to focus on is what kind of numbers are we seeing today . Yes, we are seeing numbers going up a little bit as schools are back in session. As weather is getting colder, as people are interacting more but were not seeing those kinds of increases in the death rate. Were not seeing those kinds of increases in the hospitalization rate. So doesnt mean that were out of the woods as a nation but it does mean that we are getting towards the end of this. People still need to be taking, doing mitigation, the ppe, the masks, the goggles, not goggles so much but the masks and social distancing that they need to do to protect themselves. Lou it is, it is quite a journey this nation has been on, indeed the world has been on. What we have learned is changing almost daily. The cdc today, for example, reversing what had put in place just six months ago trying to now, once again assert that the virus indeed transmissible airborne. There has been so much controversy and conflicting professional medical views about that. Are you surprised by how long it has sort of taken the cdc to land on this judgment . Right. This has been a change that weve seen over time from the cdc. Remember initially everybody was terrified about touching anything, that you were going to get the disease.
