And were getting some Promising Development to the number of new cases that are being reported, fewer and fewer states are reporting positive cases getting problematic, that is all well and good, there are some issues abroad that we will tell you about, germanys indicating right now it can be a tough winter for germany that she is concerned about the virus part, these are lockable situation, we follow and we will put them together and see what you have to think about and worry about as your kids get back to school and you start thinking about its going to go on here, we got all of that cover, post politics in both conventions are done, they wrapping up one last night, very long speech from the white house but a galvanized debate and a lot of republicans are hoping its also going to bring in the money to support the polls to early tell that the president is not wasting anytime he will be back out visiting New Hampshire tonight he will visit battleground states as he had through the last couple weeks and as well joe biden we understand is already slated after labor day to visit among other states, pennsylvania, arizona, wisconsin, battlegrounds, lets go to Hillary Vaughn with a wrap up of what was at the convention and now for republicans what will be. With both conventions over, that means the general election is officially underway, both Party Nominees rain in the general election with a fireworks finale in President Trump is already hitting the campaign trail today heading to manchester, New Hampshire for his first rally after officially accepted the nomination but seem President Trump out and about on the trail has made democratic nominee joe biden a little bit jealous, last night biden says hes ready to do more than pingpong between his two homes in delaware and instead get out there saying the fundraiser of this, what were working on is how i get out, i am a politician, i really miss being able to grab hands, shake hands and you cannot do that now, biden and harris are planning a socially distant swing states swing hitting states like wisconsin, minnesota, pennsylvania after labor day but say while they may be physically in the battleground states, the events could still be virtual. We love to interact with people. In every way that we can in a way that will be safe for the people that we are meeting also still on bidens calendar, the first president ial debate, one month away from tomorrow, even the Top Democrats like nancy pelosi has said she does not think the nominee should show up in debate trump. While he continues down the street and were debating now and im going to be a fact checker on the floor while im debating. The Term Campaign is worried that pelosis advice could be assigned of what might be that biden might decide to bail or phone it in we are concerned that his handlers will ultimately decide to keep him in his basement and avoided entirely or suggest holding them remotely via skype were biden could rely on nearby handlers at teleprompter or notes. We are still waiting on information on how much money the rnc in the Trump Campaign raised during the convention, if you remember last week at the dnc over the final two days, their party raised 40 million, itll be interesting to see how the Republican Party backs up to that. Neil i always got the file Neither Party will worry about money. Its how they utilize the resources coming in and a lot of the battleground states, great reporting following other fastmoving conventions. In the meantime, hillary touched on something that is the issue that we will have to focus on in the days and weeks ahead, the personal campaigning, the president is going right out with the people in crowds, he was getting criticized last night for the big event at the white house and they were not social distancing but the bottom line he is doing that and its something that is very visual, people respond at home, should the biden camp do more of that in Kamala Harris indicating you will see more of that but is not a detriment to the democratic ticket if it avoids these venues for whatever medical reasons, lets go to sean davis in federalist cofounder we also have scott, former d. C. Democratic party chairman, i ended with you, i understand all the medical reasoning for this, someone who deals with a couple of elements myself, i appreciate that. But i always wonder if the other guy are going out there and yes may be risking it all in risking the attendance, maybe doing it safely, whatever, doesnt obligate joe biden and, here is to get out there as well, do they look like theyre resting on a lead and not being aggressive enough . It certainly puts pressure on them to get out and as always tension and a balance that theyre going to have to reach as democrats because this pandemic is real. I dont think theyre resting on their morals by doing a campaign virtually but there is pressure there, its gotta be done safely and whether people are being tested before they can be allowed into some type of rally whether they have masks on, they will certainly have masks on, its gotta be done safely, this is the new normal and Political Campaign and we cannot avoid that. The republicans a donald trump, i dont really get the sense that they care about that because in their alternative reality that the pandemic is over or winding down in their 12 points behind, his strength is his rallies if you will. He has gotta be careful to because the pandemic is real regardless of what he may say publicly or what he has on twitter, hes certainly the worst thing that could happen to him in this campaign is for him to be diagnosed with covid. They have the same amount of pressure, it will be a new reality and will have to see how it plays out. Neil were looking at some of the National Averages of polls and it takes a whole bunch of polls, reputable ones in right now were looking at a sevenpoint popular vote in some of the battle states, its getting to be a little bit more competitive where when she had anywhere 7 10 and one after another, were almost even, having said that, if i dont mind getting back to the crowd thing, i was modern during this last night, every time a cut away to the crowd and their sandwiched in i could not get out of my head, dangerous, i was not trained to be a snowflake or whatever they call that, id be a very big snowflake, im looking at that, it popped in my head every time i see it, what are you thinking, what are you doing i know they seem to be stabilizing and the percentage of positive cases seem to be stabilizing but man 0 man its all i can think up in why not for thinking that . I dont think youre nuts and what it comes down to in this country is personal responsibility, everyone has their own risk profile and everyone has their own Health Issues that they know about and everyone has a responsibility to demand their own risk. People that know that theyre not particularly successful i dont have any problem with them going out and those who feel im not comfortable, theyre able to stay home, i think the real issue is letting people make their own decisions about that rather than having a pop down mandate saying you cant do this and you cannot do that. Neil is gotta come from the top goahead. The problem with that approach, thats a fair approach, no doubt. In the spread of covid is not about personal responsibility but about the personal responsibility to others and spreading it to others and so if thats the case, then we do need the government or private sector saying were not going to put others at risk, not necessarily our own personal risk, its a combination that cannot be ignored if you listen to the scientist or you believe in scientist. Neil i do agree with both of you in a different way that is something that we have to watch because all i know, when people get together whether its at a new jersey campsite order following all the rules of they were the university of alabama and not going to all the bars and all of that, hundreds of cases popped up and i dont know what it is about this thing but you get it and youre exposed to and suddenly going viral, hopefully cooler, healthier and they figure a way to deal with this going forward, i do want to get your attention on the violence. In your faith protest outside of the white house last night, rand paul was experiencing leading the white house after the event and it got pretty dicey. This is from earlier today. They were yelling threats and trying to push the police over to get to me, they were grabbing on us and it got worse and worse and worse, they were shouting threats to us to kill us, hurt us and also saying and shouting, say her name, breonna taylor, its like you cannot reason with a small but im actually the author of the rihanna taylor, the iron is lost on these idiots that theyre trying to kill the person who is actually trying to get rid of no knock raids. Neil scott i know the protesters were not socially distancing. Nobody is. But leading that aside, im wondering whether the indicator was a preview of the coming attractions for the fall campaign. Were going to see a lot of the stuff. People are certainly in a lot of pain and a lot of anger about the systemic racism of not being addressed, the republicans view of all of this is that these are mobs and the only way to answer or respond is with law and order and flooding of these areas with police, i think its twofold, you cannot flood an area and save all in order without looking at the underlying systemic issues that are making people angry, black people and white people, this is not the america. Neil i understand there being angry but i dont know if you can see this video, theres one thing to be angry and to protest and to let that be known, this got a little scary, this is the kind of thing that worries americans who overwhelmingly think that these are issues that should be addressed, we cannot ignore them that they get pretty anxious when they see interrupted to the kind of scene we saw last night washington on kenosha and all of that, whatever your rationale behind it, there worried that it gets out of control and its about their personal safety. I certainly agree with you there, i dont endorse violence or anarchist in any way shape or form, ironically and im not playing the blame game, we see that Trump Supporters or White Supremacists or people connected to have infiltrated the black lives matter protest and for the most part have been peaceful, even Law Enforcement says that but you have the bad actors summer infiltrated and some who want the anarchist or some who have their own agenda, people been arrested for fighting this and they have been connected to violent groups, i dont know how the police sort through that but the infiltration in the violence in the mob mentality and that has got to stop, i dont agree with it and its not an easy piece but you cannot blame black lives Matter Movement the all that goes on with the mob mentality. Neil not exclusively but it does warrant a response but it gets out of hand but i think thats what republicans keep pounding during their Convention Last week, something left out of the Democratic Convention citing more of the Peaceful Protesters which is fine, that is fair but very little about the violence, joe biden the last couple of days has spoken out about the violence but a lot of people are telling too little too late, what are you going to do now, republicans seem to be seizing on this with no other issue, it came up more than any other among all the speakers over the last four nights. What do you think. I think democrats only have themselves to blame for this massive violence operating throughout the country these are not peaceful protests, these are not peaceful tire fires or attacks of cops, these are not peaceful shootings, these are coordinated violent attacks, they are happening exclusively in democrat cities in democrat states in seattle or portland or minneapolis and had the democrats actually come out and announced what these protesters are doing and what they stand for which is overthrowing the police, abolishing them, this wouldve stopped a long time ago, this is directly at the seat of democrat leaders who dont want to call out their own voters in their own base so they sit there silent with their hands below them doing nothing and it is shameful. Neil they do come out and protest that but it is a little after the fact that maybe the train has left the station but go ahead scott. When you think the republicans talking about democratic run cities, do you suggest that they believe if you have a republican mayor, this is not all about problem in the systemic racism and social injustice to take place, if they were republican mayors, do you think black lives matter and all the other people who are protesting that they would not be protesting, they would not be violent its nonsensical, its not fair to say that and nobody is trying to overthrow the police, i did not to a lot of democratics leaders have denounced the violence in any attacks on the police. At the same time, the police and how they operate and how Law Enforcement operates are simply not working. The whole model needs to be changed but to blame the democrats because their head of the city makes no sense. Neil i will say they might be denouncing in separate venues but they were not at the Democratic Convention, more than a few have come back to say republicans are latching on and it seems to be working for them, we cannot be detached from it but we will see what is happening. Its misguided. Neil i get you not a fan of the president or his supporters, im going to throw that out there. I wish the president and his supporters would be better and more honest. Thats what i wish. Neil well that cuts both ways doesnt. I want to thank you both, have a wonderful weekend, safe weekend, meanwhile back to the corundum virus, let harrison the middle of the back and forth yesterday she talked on the law order and she mentioned something about is the market he is very happy to close and whether doing well but not another series of numbers, this is yesterday Kamala Harris. Heres why trump has been so willing and unable to deal with this crisis. He was fixated on the stock market, over fixing the problem, he was convinced that if his administration focused on this virus, it would hurt the market and he hurt his chances of beina reelected. That mattered more than saving american lives. Neil i want to go to the money genius here, what she is getting at and you and i talked about before, it might be the beginning of the democratic response line to the soaring market, republicans, the president specifically, far more interested in stocks going up and coronavirus cases going up, i think i cut to the gist of it, what do you make of that attack line. I think they need some attack line, its been very clear the markets are going up, its very clear the markets have done well under this presidency and this congress is all together, but the president has made clear he will hitch his wagon to the market idea so they gotta find some way to tear down, i think this is a completely nonconstructive to say hes been concentrating on that and missing the boat on coronavirus, i see they pull out the things that are about the coronavirus and just stop talking about the stock market, this thing is going really well, all to you whats not, their messaging is really off and i think its going to hurt them very much here neil. Neil i also wondered what could describe the vaccine or the numbers to go down, weve had a steady state, ten days where the number of new cases is getting smaller and smaller, you hope that trend continues but if it does, then americans a few weeks, couple months out are saying we really are seeing the worst of this, that could change everything, so far its not been about the economy of the market is been really virus centric. I think theres been a lot of virus things been discussed but you know that people are going to vote their pocketbooks again, its not the first election theyve done that, its every election that theyve done that and i believe that issue is one thats going to be very difficult for the dems, for the blue states, theyve gotta get off of lets fight the economy doing well or at least the markets are doing well and the economy is showing recovery, if they keep pounding that and not our best point number, theyre not going to be on message and theyre going to lose that side of the battle and who knows hes going to come out of the woodwork to vote saying yeah but my 401k is still doing okay. Neil a good point, well see what happens, very good to see you, be safe and healthy and well. In the meantime safe and healthy and well that sums up what going on the corner, its less than four percentage point away from a record and its in positive territory, a lot of people looking at this and say this could complete. Neil it is a good thing, why this weekend that we do that for you theres always breaking news on the weekend that the president visiting the gulf region after hurricane laura we get a lot of scrutiny all over the place, jeff flock is in the middle and the we zana right now, how are things looking there today. Hes going to see a lot of damage businesses, this is one that did not have its windows blown out, they did not collapse and its still somewhat dry, why, because it is roof blew off and protected the front window it is actually not gone, hear the sirens this is just one of hundreds of businesses the president will see when he comes to visit to see the same sort of thing, and the last hour i met a woman who spent her life savings establishing a business called thou was tory. We just doubled up on this, the gowns are out the roof, the it is raining today by the way, you dont usually get rain after hurricane, it is pouring rain, if you lost a roof, anything inside the gowns, victoria said i dont want anything for myself i want the girls who dresses her in here, can another bridal store help out that way. Listen to what you told me last hour. Incredible. Im not worried about the dresses that were not sold, my heart goes to the girls whose dates were coming up, we were holding them once things cleared up, we had many paid off dresses sitting there waiting for girls to reschedule. I dont want anything for me, i started a 600 we will rebuild. I love what i do in my customers know that, my main goal is to take care of my customers. One thing i still do this work is stories like this and why her kids are so important. You could tell people stories like that and maybe somebody will reach out, our colleague Charles Payne just tweeted if somebody starts a gofundme page he would contribute 1000 to help vicki rebuild her business. We just confirmed that she has put a gofundme page author and she said she does not really need the money, im good for another thousand, if we can be to any help to people who are so much in need in the situation, so be it. Its the right thing to do but it seems like. Neil what i love about your reports, you could just disregard to take the numbers in the billions in yada yada and people directly involved. Thats what makes it so powerful and so special. Thank you very much. The stories need to be told. Neil absolutely. A lot more coming. Thanks to you theyre getting out there. I want to go to the navy president , this is an organization in canoes, boats, whatever they can get to get to you if you need the help and a lot of folks need a lot of help, what does it look like there now, a lot of people stranded without power getting access to their homes is difficult, what are you finding out . Whats going on now as you mentioned, rain were not used to rain, that is making things a lot worse, we had rescues and searches going on but unfortunately we ran into rain, the biggest obstacle with finding right now is been able to get supplies into the areas and transportation and fuel in short, we are actually getting to the closest area to speed supplies into get trucks and trailers in. Right now are doing investigating and searches. Its a mess in the rain is not helping. Neil the flooding is so startling to me when i look at it, seems to go wait in line. Thats another problem, the wind damage and were getting different ports right now, one thing is, a lot of the small towns have had slow phone service to begin with, were actually having to send people out of these areas from going doortodoors to get the needs that they needs, phone service and fuel and transportation those of the obstacles were trying to come right now. Neil hang in there and thank you for all your work, sometimes with the past, youre just looking to help people. , the united navy, president of a region that looks like a war zone, get better, we have a lot more coming up including the major sports world trying to get back to normal this week, there was a baseball game disruption yesterday over the whole protest over the situation of the suiting of the black man just a week ago in kenosha, wisconsin. That is going to plant, theyre supposed to resume this weekend, we are hearing that from the m mba, currently they have not checked with all the players, they are not exactly on board with that. Liberty. Neil real quick sports update were hearing that the big ten conference is considering in a game football season that would begin after thanksgiving, we dont know all the details on that. Thats about half the Major College mobile conferences are looking to resume this fall, the others here are delayed or actually denied, weve also gotten word from Clemson University that is football schedule is still on track and is going to allow fans in the stands, that is a huge stadium at 25 capacity for their first home game against citadel on the 19th, youre getting goods in grams of the more of the schools wrestling with how they start the football season. It will start and become thing, we will keep you posted on that, and look whats happening on the professional scene, the protests that were planned over the shooting and taken place last sunday they have now escalated to pushing back a number of games and the rest but more so in the playoffs that are ensuing for the nba, they have delayed a lot of the playoff games into the weekend, they are sent to go but there is no clear indication right now that all the players are going to go along, lets go to Christina Coleman fox news correspondent following all this from l. A. Hi, this all began wednesday night when they refused to play game five of the nba playoffs, protesting racial inequality as they demanded justice in the wake of the jacob lake shooting in their home state, practice and will hold a team unifying session. Neil thank you very, very much, the fox news headline. Obviously the president saying these disruptions in social statements dont belong and they dont belong in the nba what happens from here. Were waiting to see what the mba does today, they did say they will continue to the hardware today but its way to look into the weekend we know the wnba with todays work of boycotts over the jacob lake shooting, as for the sports leagues its up in the air beside the nhl, the stanley cup held off for another day, they took a lot of backlash on wednesday for not joining together the process boards solidarity and boycotting those games, instead they are going to have the night off, we will see what happens with the remainder of the sports leagues and as for the association between them and President Trump not a lot of loss back to the Golden State Warriors saying they were not gored to come to the white house and celebrate the nba finals, its understanding where the commenter coming from the president. Neil what do you think owners between the handling it the players, they want them to play, where is that going. It seems like the owners are really letting the players take the lead on this, there were two separate calls that happen on wednesday night and on thursday morning, one player between the board of governors and the remaining teams inside the Orlando Bubble to decide the next steps, theyre eager to give players a voice but they want to see them finish out and i think there were some arguments came into play learning there was a brief argument inside the bubble between the Union President of Michelle Roberts and one player from the clippers Patrick Beverly arguing whether or not to finish out the procedures and andy argues that he pays robert salary and did not want to hear the financial application of the Financial Association and players are moving on and going to go back to work this weekend and we have not heard anything else to the effect of them trying to leave the bubble for anything other than injury at this time. Neil keep us posted, we appreciate the update. In the meantime you probably saw a lot of speeches at the republican convention, this one was memorizing for me, all of 25, i dont think is 25 yet, making a statement and running for congress in North Carolina, paralyzed what he did that night the still has the nation talking. More after this. Im a verizon engineer, and im part of the Team Building the most powerful 5g experience for america. Its 5g ultra wideband, and its already available in parts of select cities. I say to american to love our country, young and old, be radicals of freedom, be a radical for the liberty and be a radical for our republic for which i stand, one nation under god with the liberty and justice for all. Thank you and may god bless america. Neil that was one of the most talked about events at the Republican National convention, he is running for North Carolina congressional seat that was once held by mark meadows who is to become the president chief of staff, he joined us right now, madison very good to have you, did the party know you were planning that that you were going to try to stand after your remarks, were they okay with all that . They did not know that until the day of, we had a podium set up in front of us and we requested that and that be removed out and we pulled it off and it came out very well, its a very difficult thing for me too stand at this point in my therapy but it was worth it for that moment, i just really want to show america that you can overcome any obstacle and they we are patriotic people who stand up and will not cower to a mob. Neil i did not know this was happening we were covering it and when the two guys came out it was like a scary moment, or whats going on, im glad it worked out. Can you tell me again a little bit how you did become paralyzed. I was 18 years old i had just gotten a full ride scholarship to nc state, i was awaiting excepted to the naval academy, my whole life was ahead of me, everything was going great in my life and then i stepped into a car to go to a drive with one of my best friends but i did not know that would be the last step i ever took, i was taking a nap in the passenger seat and my friend for whatever reason thought it would be better as a Group Activity and he felt asleep behind the wheel and ran into a concrete barricade and i saw the lights in the hospital next thing. Neil enter paralyzed for life. Paralyzed for life. You dont even have a chance to fight back and obviously going through Something Like that im sure you can imagine teaches you perseverance or great to overcome things but it really did teach me and something i touched on all my rnc speech, they really taught me what its like to go through life without everything being perfect and everything not going your way. I have now gotten to a point in my life where i want to walk around its a video cisco shoes before i make a judgment on them or decision for them. Neil when you are running the republican primary, you were not the president s choice, i understand he will be supporting a no as the nominee, do you know whether he will campaign in your district, do you know what his role will be, you welcome it . I do welcome it, he made an appearance in my district on monday, it was great and we were supporting our local farmers and one of my biggest agriculture guys in my area, an incredible man, he has done this incredible thing called farmers to families where they take nutritious fruits and vegetables that were not being sold in cases of the coronavirus and giving them to families who needed it. That was an incredible thing and President Trump came down to celebrate that in my district and we rallied our agricultural groups down there. Neil with your notoriety in the text you are getting you will be the youngest u. S. Congressman in the u. S. History if you ever got there. It comes as more scrutiny and others are saying and critics are arguing that there are a lot of White Nationalist who are pushing your campaign and a lot of White Supremacy language that is come up i dont know whether directly attached to your campaign and its come up again and again, what is that all about . One is the National Democratic playbook, if you are white person in america, youre not seat until proven otherwise, i think thats abysmal and its terrible for where political structure is right now. But i been accused of being a White Nationalist and being accused of being a not see, this is the typical tactic come normally but you know what, we all stand against racism, especially where the least racist generation ever around and i did mount any kind of racism or any kind of bigotry or not to use them because its pathetic when you want some white ethnic state, that does not make sense, the world going to last 2000, 4000 years, walby brown like my fiance, im very disappointed that were all going to be attacked and act like im a White Nationalist. That is very, very sad, i was raised in a world that your spouse to treat with honor, igniting and respect and thats what the Republican Party is, we dont classify people by race or gender or ability, we welcome people of all walks of life equally and thats why im a republican. Neil when others are saying as well that there is issues that have come up in the past of Sexual Misconduct by a number of victims i believe most have been an ominous, i dont know much more about this and how far back this goes but do you want to address any of that right now . You know what, some allegations of Sexual Misconduct did come up about one of my first dates after my accident when i was 19, it was a girl that i know and respect and i believe her memory of those situations is just different than mine, i think weve all tried to kiss a girl before and they said no but ive never tried to forcefully make that happen. I was very saddened to hear that and if i did make anyone feel comfortable thats very regrettable and something im very sad to hear. But you know what, were moving forward in life right now and i would be very sad if we were to find out this is politically motivated to somebody keeping the gavel in Nancy Pelosis hand and ruined 70s good name. Neil these allegations, post announcing run for the congressional seat . Im sorry can you repeat that one time. Neil did these allegations just come up in your run for this congressional seat . In other words have they have been up there before. Know they have never been out there before, they just came up only when politics got involved. Neil madison we will follow very closely, madison with a head turner at that convention. I was caught offguard by that i did not know what was going on, i was like a minute black moment, hes okay and theyre still talking about it. We told you a while ago, the nba wants to resume its playoff games this weekend after a number of players that opted out fr , protesting the shooting death last week of a black man in kenosha, wisconsin. After that, they said of jacob blake, we cant do this right now, this is not the time to do it, we will put off a lot of things. Well, the nba says the playoff games are on and just a moment ago, the players agreed. The playoff games are on. Stay with us. Introducing stocks by the slice from fidelity. He was busy last week visiting battleground states as he was this week and obviously that tempo is going to increase in the days ahead. Joe biden will be sort of leaving his bunker after labor day. We know hes going to at least pennsylvania, arizona, wisconsin. Dont know about the venues or how they are going to be done in this covid19 environment. The Vice President says this president ignores, but the campaign is on and the nasty ads are coming. We already heard of a big joe biden ad buy going into this week following the convention itself. Similar heavy spending on the part of the trump folks. Its going to be a doozy and maybe one for the record books as far as overall spending. Edward lawrence joining us right now with what we can expect. Hey, edward. Reporter what are we, about 66 days out now. The president has already been to North Carolina, hes talking about going to louisiana to tour parts of the area that was damaged by the hurricane and as you said, tonight hes going to be in New Hampshire for an inperson rally event. The president has been very visible. On the other hand, former Vice President joe biden really has not done a lot of inperson events, only a few oneonone interviews virtually this week. 24 hours ago, he announced he would start going out on the campaign trail after labor day when deems that its safe for him to do so. You listed some of those states. During the republican acceptance speech last night, the president highlighted how he has actually been the one who is tough on china. Washington insiders ask me not to stand up to china. They pleaded with me to let china continue stealing our jobs, ripping us off and robbing our country blind but i kept my word to the American People. We took the toughest, boldest, strongest and hardesthitting action against china in American History by far. Reporter the president claiming its biden who would be soft on china because the money the chinese invested in his sons business at one time. Biden and Kamala Harris, the senator from california, say not true, especially when it comes to protecting americans from the coronavirus. As president , joe biden will put a plan into effect on day one. Develop and deploy rapid tests with immediate results. Make sure testing, treatments and ultimately a vaccine reach all americans, including communities of color who have historically been left behind. Manufacture medical supplies and protective equipment we need. And make them right here, in america. So were never again at the mercy of china and other foreign countries. Reporter the common theme there of china. Now, the Vice President and senator harris will be doing a number of virtual rallies before next week, but the president as you know going today to New Hampshire. Back to you. Neil thank you very much, Edward Lawrence on all of that. I was listening as edward was citing that, the Kamala Harris recommendations, what team biden would do on the virus. We are already doing a lot of that stuff here from the testing to americanmade, you know, defenses against this. I want to raise that first with our axios reporter. Its always good to criticize the guy in office and this president was doing, you know, four years ago, running for president , the administration in office at the time, i get that. But a lot of their ideas, when it comes to dealing with the virus, whatever they say about what the president should have done early on, they can make that for eternity, they are doing. They are already doing it. So where does this argument go . Its a tough argument to make. I agree with you, neil. I think that the president , we saw this week, really tried to paint his handling of the pandemic as being very successful. They brought in experts, nurses and doctors who are dealing with the coronavirus, to help prop up that messaging but its something that the Biden Campaign i think the messaging is resonating with democratic voters who are looking at this. They think the president isnt doing a good enough job in handling this, that too Many Americans are dying every day, past the 180,000 death mark, so its a difficult thing to defend yourself from but its something we saw the campaign do this week. They will continue to say hes doing an excellent job in handling the coronavirus pandemic and i do think the more that we see development and research with the vaccine or other types of treatments, its only going to help them more. Neil im wondering, too, on that issue, if a vaccine does become available, the president teased one likely by the end of the year, who knows, but there is a sprint to do just that. That would be a game changer, would it not, or would people move on to other worries like these protests and whathave you . It would be a game changer. I do want to say i think it could be unlikely. From all the Public Health officials and experts that axios discussed this with, that timeline of by the end of the year, certainly by the time of the election, is very optimistic. Or at least even if there is a vaccine, to get it widespread and to have it really be impacting the country and having it being taken is a far way off. So it could be a game changer and i think would definitely restore a ton of confidence in the president s handling of the pandemic. But of course, theres other things in this country now that people will turn their attention to. The unrest that you mentioned, definitely a huge issue and going to be a massive concept in messaging area as we head into november. Neil yeah. First and foremost, the protests that have been going on. The president was all over that last night, echoing a theme by almost every speaker at this skroengs. Convention. This is the president at these ongoing protests. No one will be my administration will always stand with the men and women of Law Enforcement. Every day Police Officers risk their lives to keep us safe and every year many sacrifice their lives in the line of duty. Neil they must have done some internal testing on this because that was a constant theme at this convention, where the Democratic Convention was black lives matter, not so much talking about blue lives. This particular convention, much more talk about blue lives matter, safety matters. How is this resonating . Its resonating very well. You are exactly right. The campaign has done internal polling on this, they tested this. Its something both the president and his Reelection Campaign thinks resonates really well with voters. I have spoken with a lot of officials driving this messaging and a goal of theirs and we saw this this week, was to try and create some fear around the biden harris ticket. I know that a lot of the president s aides have acknowledged to me in the past its a hard task to achieve given that voters overwhelmingly dont view joe biden as someone to be feared but that being said, his campaign does think that theres an opportunity here to seize on the unrest in the country and really try to aim toward a slice of meaningful swing voters and try to get them to feel that the country will be worse off or not prepared to handle whats happening if they elect a quote, unquote, weak candidate like joe biden. Neil yeah. It got extreme. Thank you very much. Good catching up with you. Its going to be an interesting race. We will see what happens. In the meantime, this issue about whether joe biden even wants to address donald trump and debate him this fall was first triggered by some comments from nancy pelosi saying she doesnt think its a good idea, the guy lies, why should you bother, he makes up stuff so you should skip out of that. Joe biden comes back a little later in an interview to say no, no, no, im still planning to debate the president and then nancy, well, clarifying things. Take a look. Well, i have every confidence in joe biden, as i said. He knows why. He knows his why. Why i said he shouldnt debate him has nothing to do with joe biden. Joe biden will be great. He is great as a debater. Neil i want to get a read on this from Christopher Nixoncox, the grandson of president Richard Nixon and also a board member on the nixon foundation. Christopher, very good to have you. Great to be on with you, neil. Neil you know i was thinking of your grandfather because he is really the only modern president , i think to my memory, i could be wrong, who won the white house in 1968 and 1972 without debating his opponent. Maybe he was still remembering the 1960 debates he had with john kennedy, i dont want to go there again, but he won both times without it. Im wondering if theres serious consideration now that these debates could fall apart, that they might not happen. What do you think . Well, i think the debates will happen and i think its important that they do, and i think if joe biden doesnt debate, that will be a major mistake by him. Given the questions that the president s been raising and allies of the president have been raising about bidens fitness to be president and even going so far as to say it might be the extreme left that will be controlling him when if biden becomes president , i think its very important that he dispel that notion and also show that hes very fit and can handle the job as president. That being said, i think theres a trap the president , President Trump, may be walking into which is that if you lower the bar so much and essentially put it on the floor, almost anything joe biden does that puts two sentences together will look impressive and will exceed expectations. As perception drives reality, that could become a major problem for the president. As we recall with Ronald Reagan in 1984, he didnt have he had some shaky debates but ultimately because he had a couple good lines, he was able to carry the day. Neil yeah. I wont hold my opponents youth and inexperience against him to erase the age thing. You know, when i remember your grandfather, particularly in 1972 when he was up for reelection, he was leading in the polls by a country mile almost throughout the summer, and i think there was a decision made, he was up against George Mcgovern that year, looked like democrats were falling apart, why should i debate this guy, ive got such a cushion here, i can roll the dice. Mcgovern kept pounding, we got to debate, we got to debate, we got to debate. You know, your grandfather won by a landslide. We know obviously what happened a couple years later with watergate and all that. But again, he based it on his position in the polls, and right now, joe biden might be basing a decision if he does, he says hes not, on not debating the president if hes got a Comfortable Lead in the polls and doesnt want to risk it. What would you think if that was his motivation . Well, i would say that President Trump is a closer. I think that Hillary Clinton may be a warning sign for joe biden, which is maybe she felt she could sit on her lead, maybe the one Campaign Event a day. President trump worked really hard, he went to michigan, went to wisconsin, everyone thought that was nuts, republicans never win there and he ended up winning. I think when you are running for office, especially president , you cant start measuring the curtains until you get there. I think the idea that especially a challenger can sit on their lead and not debate, i think thats a major, major mistake and i think joe biden will be well served to actually get in the arena and start debating the president. That would be my advice to him. Neil i just wanted you to weigh in, i know you dont speak for the entire extended nixon family, but you have heard about all these republicans who have jumped the fence and are now supporting joe biden, among them cindy mccain, colin powell, john kasich, the former ohio governor, a host of others who apparently 200 strong either worked with john mccain or mitt romney or george w. Bush, george h. W. Bush, who just dont think that donald trump is a true republican, they want nothing to do with him. What do you think of that . Well, i think there are a lot of people that were upset by President Trumps campaign. He was an outsider. He came from nowhere politically speaking and ran for president and won. So he displaced a lot of people. I also think that hes changed the Republican Party. The Republican Party used to be the party of suburbs and to some extent it still is, but he really switched it to being the party of the working class blue collar voter and of course, thats going to displace people, too. But this isnt anything unusual. Political parties morph and change over the years and decades and try and build Winning Coalitions and im sure in 10 or 15 years, we will look back at some trump advisers who might say they dont support the republican nominee then. Its really about building a Winning Coalition today and President Trump has shown that in 2016, his coalition certainly was a winning one in the Electoral College and i think, im willing to go out on a limb and say this, i think we are looking at a major victory for President Trump this time around because i see echoes of 1972, i see a president who has had a lot of Foreign Policy accomplishments and i see a president thats fighting major unrest in our cities just like my grandfather was, and i think that while you cant win a landslide like my grandfather did just based on the politics of the day, i think that the president is setting himself up well with the Blue Collar Coalition that will be able to win in a fairly comfortable with a fairly comfortable margin. I think thats sort of where were heading. Neil real quickly on that, your grandfather spoke for the silent majority, i know his Vice President at the time, spiro agnew said the great unheard from silent majority, that because of the riots going on in 1968, particularly, they just, you know, were looking at that, they werent obviously being polled, and they showed up and put your grandfather over the top. You think the same is happening right now, that these protests have galvanized people who would otherwise not vote for donald trump to vote for donald trump . They just might not be saying it . Without a doubt, it is. I think you are even starting to see that show up in polls where several months ago, the polling showed that there was fairly sizeable support for the idea of black lives matter and for the black lives Matter Movement. I think you are seeing that decline certainly in polling now and also, you can see the reaction of the Biden Campaign that they are a little more nervous affiliating with black lives matter and are looking to sort of broaden that base. I think that you do see a large silent majority. Some things stay the same and i think theres a large silent majority out there. Some of it might not be encompassed in polling and thats i think where you will see a big victory delivered for the president , because hes focusing on what he needs to, the blue collar voters. I think you can see some states like minnesota, which believe it or not, the last president , republican president to win minnesota was my grandfather. So its been awhile but i think that can flip this time and i think you will see President Trump continue to show strength across the midwest because hes going to get the blue collar voters. Neil we shall see. The Richard Nixon Foundation Board member, grandson, Christopher Nixon cox. I was at your grandfathers library a number of times. Its just amazing, including the original house he was born in and the library itself, the passage of time as a congressman, senator, Vice President , president , really, circles some historic times, better part of the last century. Thank you very very much for joining us. Best of luck. Thank you so much. Neil be well. We have a lot more coming up. We are focusing on the dow right now. Six are known dead from yesterdays lethal storm across the gulf coast yesterday, hurricane laura. Now, its dumped a lot of rain hundreds of miles north of that location as we speak, now just a storm but still, one with a lot of rain. The latest from port arthur, texas, where you will find charles. How are things looking there . Reporter officials in texas and louisiana yesterday got their first look at the damage caused by hurricane laura, as the lengthy cleanup process began. Fox got drone footage over hardhit holly beach, louisiana, where the power of the category 4 storm completely shredded homes and caused major flooding. Nearly half a Million People are without power between both states and an estimated 220,000 people in louisiana cannot access water as crews from all over the country rush to get things back up and running. Now, despite all the devastation, some folks we spoke to say they were fortunate enough to walk away with little to no damage. Its surprising that we just got a few trees down. I mean, from the way that thing was coming through here, you would have sworn it was going to be a lot worse. We was real blessed for everything that we went through. Reporter both the texas and Louisiana National guard have initiated search and rescue efforts in some of the hardesthit areas. Death toll now stands at six and that number could rise in the coming days. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards says today, he will survey damage in the northern and central part of the state. President trump will get a look of his own when he visits this area over the weekend. Neil . Neil all right, thank you, charles watson, on all of that. Weve got the red cross Gulf Coast Region ceo with us now. Henry, thank you for taking the time. Hows it looking . Theres a lot of people along east texas and louisiana and now further up into our country that are hurting right now. The red cross is standing by and already helping those folks that are hardhit by this devastating hurricane. Neil whats the number one problem thats coming up or that youre dealing with . The number one problem is power. Power being out for almost over 500,000 people in louisiana and in texas so those who havent been hit or havent had trees or havent had wind damage still dont have power in their home and without power, the infrastructure across the region, its very difficult to kind of resume that daytoday normal life. So power right now, i would say, is the number one priority for those affected followed quickly by devastation to houses. I was in the area just today and there are so many houses along that louisiana texas border with just tons of wind damage, trees that have just fallen right on to homes, split them in two. Thats following a close second to that power. Neil you know whats amazing to me, i guess you as well, power is one thing, inaccessible roads, another, but the number of people who did not evacuate. Thank god it worked out for them, but a lot of them were leery of that. That obviously complicates your efforts. Can you fill me in on that . Right. We all know that before the hurricane hit, there is still covid19 pandemic so really, what we want to say is that seeking that help is not a deterrent. You need to seek that help. Being without power, being without shelter is not a safe place for you to be. All the red cross facilities, all the agencies, partners who are sheltering folks, are making those as safe as possible due to covid19. We are screening folks at the door, we are taking temperature checks, we are making sure theres more distance between people and that shouldnt be an impediment. We know folks sometimes just dont have access to be able to leave. We know that economically sometimes thats not possible. So we are doing all we can for those who are still around and making sure that we can maybe get them food, get them to Mental Health and get the Wraparound Services as soon as we possibly can. Neil you are doing the lords work, henry. Thank you. And thank your people for that. Be safe, be well. All the people you are trying to help as well. We will be monitoring that. We are also monitoring some tensions halfway around the world with china. Im not talking about trade. Im talking about them flinging missiles over our heads. They dont like us in the region policing the militarization they have going on of all of these islands. They just upped the ante. You know how it is with missiles when you launch dozens of them. Thats how many we have seen over the last 48 hours. Sometimes they can stray off course. After this. Be careful be careful be careful be careful neil they are trying to keep it calm right now. The last couple of nights have been much much calmer and anything can and possibly will happen. Thats the fear. Grady trimble in kenosha with more. How are things looking there today . Reporter looks a lot different today. A stark contrast to the past week. We have seen families coming out from all over painting still boardedup businesses. President trump in part taking credit for the peace over the last couple of days, tweeting this afternoon success since the National Guard moved into kenosha, wisconsin two days ago, there has been no further violence, not even a small problem. When legally asked to help by local authorities, the federal government will act and quickly succeed. Are you listening, portland. Marches over the last two nights have been peaceful. Police did arrest nine people wednesday night who they say had outofstate license plates and were filling up gas cans and had other equipment to, as they said, to agitate at the marches. President trump has not directly addressed, though, the shooting of jacob blake which precipitated the violence of the past week. Meanwhile, Vice President ial candidate on the democratic side Kamala Harris, a former prosecutor, told today she would charge the officer involved in that shooting. His name rusten sheskey. The other two officers in that shooting video, their names have been released today by the Wisconsin Department of justice which continues its investigation. And kyle rittenhouse, the 17yearold charged with two counts of first degree murder and several other weapons charges, attorneys on his behalf, a public defender appearing over a Virtual Court hearing today that was supposed to be an extradition hearing to get him extradited from illinois where he was arrested, brought here to wisconsin. That will not happen at least for another 30 days. That was stalled until the end of september because he is hiring a private attorney who will handle the case going forward. Thats the latest from kenosha as the people here hope it remains peaceful. Neil . Neil yeah. We all hope that. Grady, thank you very much. Grady trimble in kenosha. Want to talk to joe gerrity, a factory worker in the kenosha area. Hes had his eyes full i guess looking at all of this, to put it mildly. Joe, what do you think of your town, your region right now, are you confident things are getting back to normal . First of all, neil, thanks for having me o giving me the opportunity to talk. Yes, it seems the last two days have calmed down quite a bit. It looks like the rebuilding process is starting to begin and i think kenosha is well on its way to getting back to where we need to be. Neil you know, im sorry i misspoke, i got your name wrong on my guest list here, but i do want to get your take. So many businesses that were destroyed or others who now are saying i dont want to rebuild, maybe i dont want to do this, maybe its too risky, maybe there will be more protests, how do you feel about all that . I feel that we shouldnt get too scared of this right now. We shouldnt freak out. I think what President Trump did to get these federal agents in here and get the National Guard in here, it helped calm the storm a bit. Are we in for more, probably, but we are a very resilient city and our citizens arent going to let this place burn down. We let it go for two days and two days was enough for us. We cannot sustain this. Kenosha is too small of a city to have weeks of this going on. So i think our citizens are trying to nip it in the bud along with Law Enforcement and i think we are all doing a great job right now. Neil yeah. I marvel, too, at the coordination between that local Law Enforcement, the guardsmen and women who have come in to help out. They seem to have stabilized things. Whats your sense . It seems that way to me, too. And from everybody else im talking to, it seems like the last two nights have been almost godsent. Like from where we were sunday night, monday night and tuesday night, is just a complete 180. I hope we can get stay on this path and get better. Neil what do you think of kenosha itself, your family and all . Do you guys feel safe there . What are your thoughts now . Its been a crazy week. Oh, very crazy week. Currently, im sure we are still on edge, but in general, kenosha is a very great city, a great city to raise a family in. We are right in between milwaukee and chicago. Beautiful city, beautiful people, strong, resilient community. Im pretty confident in no time, as you see in some of the pictures and facebook pictures of people just rebuilding right now, the love and compassion that the people have for their community, i believe well be back soon enough. Neil i have every confidence you are exactly right. Thank you very, very much. Very good having you. Be safe and well. Amazing testament, resilience. You dont quit. Give it another shot. It keeps happening, maybe rethink that but hopefully it doesnt keep happening. We have a lot more coming up after this. Remember i was telling you about what china is up to in the South China Sea and other regions where it claims to have exclusive ownership of all of these islands . What we were essentially telling the chinese that no, you dont, these are not your islands to militarize. They are still militarizing them and to get the point across to u. S. Carriers in the region, they have been lobbing a lot of missiles. Some of them get pretty close. After this. Im a verizon engineer, and im part of the Team Building the most powerful 5g experience for america. Its 5g ultra wideband, and its already available in parts of select cities. Like los angeles and in new york city. And its rolling out in cities around the country. With massive capacity, its like an eight lane highway compared to a two lane dirt road. 25x faster than todays 4g networks. In fact, its the fastest 5g in the world. From the network more people rely on. This is 5g built right. Only on verizon. Neil all right. We might be sort of back on the burner with the phase one trade talks with china but you know, that does not mean everythings hunkydory. Of course, theres the virus and the militarization going on in islands that dont belong to china. China just moves in there, makes airstrips on them, puts military facilities on them, god knows what, and they have repeated it dozens of times throughout the South China Sea and other areas around there. We bring crews, you know, various carriers in the region to sort of let our presence be known and the chinese then respond to that by lobbing a lot of missiles over those carriers. Anything could possibly go wrong on this. Robert charles is with us, the former bush 41 staffer, former bush 43 assistant secretary of state. What i like about the secretary, he speaks english. So i can understand what hes staying and thats valuable these days. Good to have you with us. Thank you. Always good to be with you, neil. Neil in your normally straightforward terms, what do we do . Thats pretty provocative. Yeah. I think we dont do much of anything, quite honestly. This is china sending a signal, they would like to have hegemony over not only the South China Sea but that entire region. They are sending a bit of a signal to taiwan here, saying hey, were still in the game. They recognize we have two carrier battle groups in that region. They have done this before, these are not new missiles. These are there was a df21 and df26, actually four missiles all together. Are they capable of hitting an Aircraft Carrier and creating tremendous damage and starting a conflict, sure they are, but thats not what the chinese were doing here. They were really sending a signal just to say hey, were still in the game and if anything, i kind of think that it kind of puts china on the ballot this cycle because obviously, trump has pushed back at them and they are pushing back themselves. Neil doesnt take much for something to go wrong, though, right . Im wondering if they dont dismantle what they have done on these islands, let alone expand, building on other islands, we will have to do something. What . Well, youre right. This is a violation of International Law and interrupts the trade lanes that are used by all the countries of the world, not just in that region. China is pushing the envelope. They are trying to see how much the west will take during the creation of those islands, they said they would not be militarized. President trump let that go forward without too much noise. They then did militarize them and the grand scheme in the last month, secretary pompeo no doubt with the consent of the entire administration has said we are going to start making declarations that this is not going this is not going to stand. The islands do have structural issues that i think may contribute to their maybe future demise but the bottom line is that it is a potential miscalculation on the chinese part and i dont think war is going to begin anywhere soon and i dont think its going to be even a surrogate war but i do believe that miscalculations do happen when you launch missiles that you think are just sending a signal. I think the chinese should be cautious. I think we should be cautious, too. Neil thank you very very much. Good catching up with you. Robert charles. Meantime, we are following events and reopenings going on across the country. Im talking maybe schools all the way up from grade and primary schools to high school, colleges, universities. They are all going back. We are getting a number of indications now that many are trying to do the inperson thing. Notre dame after a couple of weeks is doing just that. A host of other schools planning to do that as well. Just in case it doesnt work out in person inside, how about in person outside . After this. You doing okay . Yeah. You know, there are various tax policies out there, no tax hikes, President Trump says, joe biden says tax hikes but just on the welltodo and some businesses he claims got away with murder. Anyway, gerri willis is very good at crunching numbers. Very good at lots of stuff. She joins us now to take a look at how they compare, contrast, whatever. Gerri . Gerri lots of differences. Hi there, neil. Thats right. We asked the question which candidate is better for your wallet and i have to tell you, tax policy is really where they show their cards. Listen. We dont need a tax code that rewards wealth more than it rewards work. Taxes even further for hardworking moms and dads. Gerri and here are the facts. In fact, biden is pursuing a tax the rich strategy targeting households earning more than 400,000 by increasing the top marginal rate to 39. 6 . Trump, on the other hand, wants to cut taxes for middle class earners, reducing the marginal tax rate to 15 for individuals earning 40,000 plus and married couples filing jointly earning just over 80,000. A payroll tax cut, we dont have any details on that yet. Now, if you are an investor, biden wants a bigger bite of your gains. He would tax Capital Gains at ordinary tax rates while trump would cut the tax rate below the current 20 . Now, bidens tax hike is expected to raise 3. 3 trillion or more and it bankrolls among other things a dozen new and extended tax credits, including ones for firsttime home buyers, renters, family care givers and expanded earned income tax credit. Lots of them. Neil, i got to tell you, experts say theres no guarantee that the money that biden will get from his tax hike could actually cover everything he wants to spend for. On the other hand, we dont really know how trumps going to pay for his tax cut. So more questions than answers right now. Neil . Neil yeah. Those deficits just keep rocketing all the way along no matter what party is in power. Its uncanny. Gerri willis, thank you very very fmuch. Blake burman at the white house following the on again off again, i guess more off again than on again stimulus negotiations. Right now they appear to be at an impasse. That is probably an understatement, huh, blake . Reporter a very very big understatement, neil. From what i was told yesterday, there was absolutely nothing substantial whatsoever from the discussion but all you really have to do is look at the Public Comments that were made from both people involved here. Nancy pelosi, the house speaker, afterwards she said the following in a statement. She said quote, this conversation makes clear that the white house continues to disregard the needs of the American People as the coronavirus devastates lives and livelihoods. On the other end of that phone call, was the white house chief of staff, mark meadows. Well, i had a 25minute phone call with nancy pelosi today about trying to provide enhanced unemployment to people that are hurting, about helping Small Businesses, about sending money to our schools k through 12, and making sure that we have Additional Resources for those that need day care, and what did we get from her is 25 minutes of nothing. Reporter 25 minutes of nothing, he says. Neil, one thing that i have been told over the last couple days is that one of the ideas floating around in republican circles is a 500 billion give or take package that would include things like Unemployment Benefits and extension of the ppp Small Business loan program, along with money for schools and money for testing. However, the dynamics in all of this havent changed one ounce, neil, because when you talk about 500 billion, there are still some republicans who are saying that would be 500 billion too much, and then when you look on the other side of things, democrats initially passed the 3. 5 trillion package so that is 7x what the white house and some republicans are talking about, and even if you were to go down to that meet in the middle 2 trillion or so number that nancy pelosi has put forward, that is four times the amount of the 500 billion number. So they are talking, but its not like talking is really doing much, it appears, at this point. Neil yeah. I dont know how that goes on for 25 minutes, just breathing on the other end . Reporter what did you say . Nothing. What did you say . Nothing. What did you say . Nothing. Is it 25 minutes . All right. Its 25 minutes of nothing. Neil its a dial tone. All right, blake burman, thank you very very much. Incredible. These are adults, right . All right. You have heard about, you know, Indoor Dining that isnt allowed so they moved outdoors, where lot of places, it is allowed. Why cant you do the same with learning . Its inperson learning, how about moving it outdoors . Kristina partsinevelos following just that in new york. Hey, kristina. Reporter hey, neil. Yes, exactly that. Backtoschool mode is in full swing.
