The women owners are defying owners. Chicago, teachers and parents once again at odds of reopening plans that even parents say are major league screwed up. California, wildfires that are raging out of control right now with no end in sight. Talk about impeccable timing . Were on top of all of that. Were focusing on developments in washington where the president is meeting with a number of tech leaders and workers. Blake burman at the white house with more. Hey, blake. Reporter hi, there, neil, and President Trump is set to be signing an executive order in washington momentarily. Im told what this will involve to try to insure when federal contracts are given out, they are given out to u. S. Citizens and not potentially h1b visa holders. Trying to insure the contracts are given to american citizens. We should be hearing from the president shortly. We will wait to see, neil if the president will be taking any questions and if he does i have to imagine he would be asked about this tweet he sent out earlier this morning. The president writing the following, quote, so crazy nancy pelosi said horrible things about dr. Deborah birx going after her because she was too positive on the very good job we were doing combating the china virus including vaccines and therapeutics n order to counter nancy, deborah took the bait and hit us, pathetic. The president seemingly criticizing, dr. February bore raw birx one of deborah birx, the top doctors on the coronavirus. Nancy pelosi said she did not have confidence in dr. Birx. After she said that several top advisors neil were to come forward and say we should not be criticizing dr. Birx, then fast forward to this day, seems as if the president , potentially is doing just that in that very tweet. Over the weekend the doctor said that we are entering a quote, new phase when it comes to covid19 saying it is widespread at this point, not just in urban areas but rural areas as well. It is unclear, neil, if that is exactly what the president was hinting at in that tweet. In any event as dr. Birx makes the warning within the last 24 hours there are negotiations continuing up on capitol hill as it relates to a potential next relief measure. What i can tell you is, i weighs told there was some progress made over the weekend although the two sides are very far apart. Im also hearing, neil, the white house could be looking to unilateral measures, meaning measures the president could potentially take should there not be a deal up on the hill. Neil . Neil well, among those unilateral measures is cutting the payroll tax that steve moore was advocating for, i believe for those 75,000 and under. He could issue them by executive order. Can he do Something Like that . Reporter not entirely sure because its, the law and tax code. As you know the tax code originates in the house of representatives and the house ways and means committee. Neil right. Reporter democrats still control the house. So there is a process. I will tell you when i was making some calls this morning to try to figure out what exactly are the fine details in this none were specifically shared to me. The Washington Post this morning is reporting i believe that the payroll tax cut is one of them but, when you talk about tax policy, it runs through the house and everything in the house runs through nancy pelosi. Neil yeah. Not through the president of the United States. Blake burman, thank you very much. Just curious about that, because it seems to be getting a new wave of currency here. Well follow it very closely. Also following white house view whether it will or will not support microsofts planned interest in tiktok, the big chinese social media concern. If it were up to peter navarro, his answer would be a big fat no. Microsoft, yahoo , cisco, other American Companies in the techland helped china build its great firewall which is used basically in the limit to imprison chinese citizens. So i guess the question is, given chinas what they call Civil Military infusion which requires any Foreign Company operating on china soil to give them their data can we trust any company that operates in china . Neil all right. I want to go to the guy who broke this story, started this International Back and forth on this, our own Charlie Gasparino. Now i know that the ceo of microsoft talked last night, i believe it was last night with President Trump about this and the signals seemed to be that microsoft is still going ahead with this. So that at least seems to indicate that president nodded off on it. What are you hearing . Neil, just as i said there was a civil war over the payroll tax cut versus extending Unemployment Benefits between mnuchin and the supplysiders in the white house led by larry kudlow which obviously is still going on, and it is bleeding over to the pages of the wall street journal as steve moore is an acolyte of larry kudlow, that civil war is going on. This civil war is going on between hardliners like peter navarro, stephen miller, theyre all trying to vie for the president s ear to issue a total ban on tiktok. Theyre being opposed by not quite unhardliners in mike pompeo who is for a deal. Steve mnuchin, the treasury secretary who is for a deal, meaning lets have President Trump issue an executive order that essentially forces a divestiture. Forget it will sound a little different than that, but this is essentially what they want. A divestiture of tiktoks u. S. Operations from its parent and then allow 45 days for a company to come in to prove to the committee on for rin investments cfius, that is develops the technology, knows the algorithms, protect user data that is not shared with the Chinese Communist government. Which is why this whole investigation started a year ago, when cfius, the committee on u. S. Foreign investments launched an investigation is whether tiktok is an arm of the Chinese Government. Whether it is using its data from u. S. Users which has grown very popular for these short videos, gone beyond even like, initially started out with very young adults, my 12yearold niece loved it, but it has gone into the inflew owners. A comedian, sarah carter, pokes fun at donald trump, does it on tiktok, does it very effectively. That is where this is going. It has a loyal base of support. Should point out lindsey graham, not a china appeasement person and marco rubio, not a china appeasement person, they want this deal to happen. The reason why is because, yeah, first off, if you ban it, there is probably ways to get it. If you ban it, youre going to annoy a lot of people. And microsoft does probably have the technology. We say problemly, im not a tech expert. But they probably have technology to insure that the chinese are out of it, they have no role in it. Their algorithm is safe and actually help as u. S. Company get a foothold in this business and could provide jobs. It sounds like the logical way at it. You know, what you do, though have right now, neil, is again as you had civil war between mnuchin and kudlow which they denied, stands to be true as of now, you can see it boiling over. There is a civil war over this. This is a white house, part of it, it doesnt speak with one voice. Some of that is good. There is obviously a debate flows over into the media, people like me find out about these disagreements tax policy and some leads into confusion. Were in that period right now. Microsoft we should point out wants to do the deal. Tiktok is quietly saying it has more than one suitor out there. I would just say this. I think the Trump Administration and cfius which is essentially an arm of the treasury department, so it reports to steve mnuchin, they feel comfortable with microsoft. If tiktok is out there trying to be cute they have other suitors, they may just blow this whole thing up. That is where we are right now. It all comes down to what the president orders. Does he do the cfius order . Does he do a complete ban . There is lot of ways at this. Does he do something in the middle . Well just have to see. It is not done until i see that order. I played this pretty carefully that this is all up to the Trump Administration and there is a Battle Royale going on in there for trumps ear on this issue. So stay tuned, something is probably going to happen today, neil. Back to you. Neil all right, my friend, thank you very much. Charlie gasparino on that. Wee have Jonathan Hoenig with us and Rebecca Walser in you. I end with but i want to begin with you on something secretary of state mike pompeo was raising about tiktok and its ties to china and maybe taking orders from china and that that is the source of all of this friction. This is from the secretary of state. Chinese Software Companies doing business in the United States, whether its tiktok or wechat a National Security aprat does could be their facial recognition patterns t could be information about the residents, their phone numbers, their friends, who they are connected to, those are the issues that President Trump made clear were going to take care of. These are true National Security issues. Neil true National Security issues but not enough that at least from what we can tell, rebecca, for the president to refuse or slap down microsofts interest in the company. Because obviously it is still being generated today. What do you make of it all . I think that you know, obviously neil, the president knows there is a lot of users that love tiktok in the United States of america and it will not be a very popular move but just like secretary pompeo is saying, when you have data aggragation of individuals addresses, faces, location tracking, all these things like facebook does we take for granted we opt out, privacy policies things that changed last year with facebook scandal those hinges could be happening tiktok instead of not going for marketing purposes to advertisers but to the Chinese Communist parity. That is the issue. There is a u. S. Security problem. So he wants to stop that but yet preserve an app that a lot of america loves and so how can you do that . Bring in a u. S. Partner, seg segregate the business from the chinese ownership, transfer chinese and we can maybe salve the app. Neil but you know, guarranty, jonathan sounds like one of my diet plunges. I guarranty i will eat nothing but vegetables and forgo all the Italian Sausage grinders. Good luck with. That how would we be able to secure Something Like that . There is no way to secure it, neil. It is important to emphasize the fact that tiktok is a private company t has 1000 american employees. The servers are located here in america. There is a lot of speculation there could be sharing of info there ask scant evidence that theyre sharing info. If tiktok was violating users rights, why would apple allow it on its platform . They ban ad lot of apps that done. That why would the justice department, for example, file a lawsuit, apple file a lawsuit, for that matter . This is much like antichina rhetoric and feeling in the country. This seems like a political ploy for the president. Charlie gasparino alluded to that. It is beingagepped up by hardliners within the Trump Administration because of all this antagonism what tiktok might do. All it has done so far make a lot of americans very happy and which is why they continue to use it every day. Neil what i dont understand about this, guys, rebecca, i kick this off with you, the notion that microsofts stock is up on this. If it were to succeed in getting tiktok, it would not come cheap. Tens of billions of dollars. I heard one figure, i dont know how accurate it is, 100 billion. Yet the stock is up believing it instantly become as social media player. I get that, ial but i dont get the fact that the stock is up that much on the promise of that . Yeah, to jonathans point and your point, neil, i understand ticktock hasnt done anything that is necessarily provable yet, the fact of having a chinese app, basically, if you understand the laws of the Chinese Communist party and you understand private ownership there is a lot of backdoors that relay information to the Chinese Communist party, the ccp. So microsoft being up to date, neil, is the u. S. , eager investor hoping that this deal actually works because the, it is a very popular app. It is definitely as charlie referenced in his piece, used to be tweens and earlier people. Now people of all ages, grandfathers, grandmothers, everyone goes on the app. It is funny. If you dont post a dance, you watch a lot of people it is really comic relief. Neil, a lot of people love this. Microsoft is going up they are thinking if it works out microsoft gets this, 2 will be a boon for their social Media Presence which they dont have. Obviously facebook with the instagram is coming out with a tiktok dance kind of thing. That is launching real soon. Theyre hoping that this is something microsoft can get to save this app. Even though it is not proven, a lot of things like chinese espionage is hard to prove in court and that is why the government is taking this dance. Neil i could see what rebecca is talking about, jonathan. My teenage sons who are bored to tears with anything Business News related, im sorry i failed as a father, they say, why is the president even thinking about doing anything . We love this site. Leave it alone. Im wondering the draw it last particularly with young people, what are we take to make of that . Neil, it is something new. This as charlie mentioned, this comedian sara cooper, i imagine she make as living to lampoon the president. Now it was tiktok, six or seven years ago it was website vine, had similar short form videos. As rebecked mentioned, microsoft has got to get into this game. They bought linkedin that hasnt really exploded their social Media Presence as it would. What youre seeing is the market trying to work it out. All those who said on capitol hill last week said facebook has a monopoly. What youre seeing here the market trying to topple that monopoly, whether tiktok or the next hot thing your young sons would love, they are in this case happens to be a chinese innovator usurping the established pros like twitter and facebook. Neil maybe this is microsofts way of reclaiming being cool. Well see. Guys, thank you very much. Youre far more hip than i will ever be, both of you. Thank you for helping me out in this segment. Microsoft as we were indicating today up smartly today. Technology is up smartly today. Nasdaq, rich in Technology Stocks is in record territory today. Were going to continue following this and monitor this. Well follow the political storm over this but the very real storm that is still churning up the east coast. The hurricane that wont quit even though its a Tropical Storm that has a lot of rain and a lot of wind and that is bad enough after this. I like liberty mutual. They get that no two people are alike and customize your Car Insurance so you only pay for what you need. What do you think . I dont see it. Only pay for what you need. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. And, even get notifications with breaking news alerts and more. With the xfinity sports zone everybody wins. Now thats simple, easy, awesome. Say xfinity sports zone into your voice remote today. Neil all right, following the hurricane that wont give up now a Tropical Storm but the fact of the matter is isaias is gathering a lot of potential that will lead to heavy flooding all along certainly the southeastern coast and if you follow the trajectory that our top weather experts have said, maybe all the way up and through maine. With very latest on that, adam klotz. Adam, what is this looking like . Neil, you kind of nailed it there. Winds of 730 miles an hour as we sit off the coast of the carolinas. Moving forward, 75 miles an hour would make it a hurricane. It either makes landfall as a strong stops, weak hurricane, category 1, will not make a huge difference. Were still talking about strong winds which were seeing along coastal communities. Widespread 30 to 40 mileanhour gusts. Once this moves inland suddenly, well talk about what is a major rain event across the very large portion of the eastern half of the country. Here is the move were seeing overnight, likely around myrtle beach, up to wilmington, perhaps a landfall midnight give or take a little bit. Then the storm works its way inland and moves up the coast. Talking about the i95 corridor, from philadelphia, d. C. , new york, boston will see a some of this. A lot of rain will fall the next 48 hours or so. So no surprise are pretty big area with watches and warnings, Tropical Storm winds across the entire east coast. Bringing all of that moisture also. Flood watches and warnings from the carolinas all the way up into eventually going to be new england before all said and done. The heaviest rain will be when it initially makes the landfall. Some much those narrow bands, anywhere, six, eight, 10 inches of rain. Its a narrow line. Currently looking at a line could be as much as six inches of rain getting up into d. C. , moving through philadelphia, baltimore. Currently looking like it just misses new york city. Maybe just an inch of rain but very small movements either direction, neil this will be a big rainmaker. So it has been one stuck around with us all this weekend. I think were just getting into this. Likely not seeing it exit the u. S. Until early wednesday morning. So it will be the story, neil, the next couple of days. Neil all right. As if you arent busy enough, adam, thank you very much, my friend. Well be monitoring that. Jake wood joins us, team rubicon cofounder, follows storms like this very, very closely. From what you can see, jake, it doesnt have to be a hurricane to be pretty devastating, does it . No, youre absolutely right. The reporter hit the nail on the head here. This will become a water event t does not matter if its a Tropical Storm or category 1 hurricane. This thing will dump a lot of water all across the states in its path. What is important for people to note, that after this storm passes over these states, that the damage is actually yet to come, because all that water dumped further inland towards the western half of these states, it all has to go somewhere. To enter the waterways. It will rush back east towards the coast. Well see a lot of these flooding events occur. Neil so, if it just hangs around, if it slows down, that obviously makes the water eve vent an even more worrisome event, right . Because, longer time to do a lot of flooding, right . Yeah, youre right. If you go back to hurricane harvey, what made harvey so devastating it actually sat over houston and greater texas area for about 96 hours. So we actually want the storm to move quickly so it doesnt have time to really drench and dump all of that moisture that it is carrying. So you know, frankly the faster this thing can move up along the coast the better off were going to be. Neil withwhere are we right now in the Hurricane Storm season . I think this was the 9th named storm or hurricane of the season. It is the quickest weve gotten to nine. I think in recent history. Maybe all history. Youre far better on this than i am. What is the significance of that . Were seeing much more activity than we ever have. That doesnt necessarily, you know, tell us what will happen over the next couple months as we go through the rest of hurricane season. Frankly, you know, these storms are recall forming. Some are making landfall, some are not. We have to be concerned about the Ocean Temperatures and what thats doing for the instability as these hurricanes are forming. It likely that this trend will continue through the rest of the season. Again we dont really know what damage those hurricanes will cause once formed. We cant, we dont have any crystal balls to help us see out into the future. What is most important we just have to really embrace this reality. We have to prepare for the worst. You know, especially considering that this pandemic is dramatically complicating response and preparation efforts. So we very to look at this trend. We have to really brace ourselves for what the future might hold. Neil all right. Well watch it closely. Jake wood, always appreciate your expertise, help on this as jake was indicating. This is latest proof. You dont have to be a hurricane to do a lot of damage, a lot of flooding to cause a lot of worry in this case. All up and down the east coast of the United States. Well keep an eye on that for you. Also monitoring very, very closely this ongoing drama involving ticktock and microsoft, whether they will allowed to come together. There are interesting developments on this as we look at chicago with a teachers protest going on there but i should let you know the Chinese Parent Company of tiktok is a Company Called bite dance that is looking at the idea of relocating its headquarters outside the United States. This would be the china Parent Company of tiktok. Now bite dance would presumably sever all its relations, at least anything u. S. Related with ticktock. But that is not necessarily passing muster with a lot of u. S. That . Sometimes just getting assurances from the Parent Company well, isnt very reassuring. Well see, after this. How are your kids set for this fall . Inperson, virtual classes, combination of both . Well in chicago teachers are protesting for, well, just for Remote Learning. They dont want inperson at all. That is not necessarily flying with all the parents in that community. Grady trimble has been monitoring this very closely. Grady . Reporter neil, the teachers are gathering at the union headquarters. In a moment they will get into their cars to caravan for city hall, they want to send a message to the mayor and as well as the school district, they dont want to go back to inperson teaching at least not yet. They have a Remote Learning proposal that the union put forward. They want to provide Free Computers and Internet Access to students. I talked to a teacher who says, there is about a month till school starts. She believes it is possible to get every student equipped with those commuters to start the year. Listen. It is possible. Were talking about educating our children, that is the biggest priority that we have. That should be the biggest priority we have in our country, in our city is educating our students and making sure there is not an achievement gap. Reporter we know the president is hugely in favor of reopening schools. He tweeted that stance once again this morning, saying, cases are up big because of big testing. Much our country is doing very well. Open the schools. We also talked to some parents who say in many cases they want schools to reopen and in some cases they need schools to reopen, so they can go back to work. And some of them say online Remote Learning just isnt adequate. Listen to this parent. To be honest instruction they needed. They were not getting the penmanship they needed. They were not learning new things. Reporter last week the American Federation of teachers announced that it would allow its local unions to strike if teachers didnt feel safe going back to classes but emphasized it was a last resort. Here in chicago the Teachers Union hasnt said whether they will strike. They havent said whether a strike is even something that is on the table. However they, would, have gone on strike twice within a year about that does happen. So well follow this caravan, neil, as they head to city hall, to see if the city changes its plan. As of right now its a hybrid model. Theyre seeking feedback from parents before the school year starts. Neil all right. Grady, thank you very, very much. Grade did i monitoring all in chicago. One thing for them to start demanding Public Schools they do it either virtually or in person. It is another to target private schools. That has gotten to be a big issue in marylands Montgomery County, ordering schools, private schools at that to remain close for in person instruction. The marylander House Minority whip joins us on these developments. She is not a fan of this move. I hope i have got that right, cathy, i apologize if i do not. She joins us right now, the maryland House Minority whip. Cathy, first off on this move, i didnt know a county, let alone a state could dictate what a private school could do . Nor did we. We were surprised and shocked that an unelected health official, one person, could close catholic, christian schools, jewish schools, other nonPublic Schools and threaten them with aer. A year of jail time. Neil, it is shocking and really cant stand. Neil now do you know, im not quite familiar with this area, whether the Public Schools right now are going to go inperson or virtual this fall as things stand now. Right, thank you, neilfor for covering this important issue. Montgomery county is the county near washington, d. C. , and Teachers Union in maryland is the most powerful Interest Group in annapolis in our state capital. They funnel millions of dollars into the coffers of public officials. They control the school system. Most of the schools will not reopen until january 2021. This is broad overreach. Our private schools, nonPublic Schools, teachers, parent, administrators, theyre ready to get back to learning. We know it can be done safely, neil. Theyre setting up amazing protocols that will keep everyone safe. Daily temperature checks. They will have a daily verbal health check. Hand washing stations, desks that will be separated, staggered. People coming in. It is above and beyond foresafety. Let science dictate it. We know the cdc says that schools can open. The American Academy of pediatrics says kids can go back to school safely. I think we should do that. Neil you know, its odd, i know Governor Hogan sports you in your efforts, it is one step too far, no matter how you feel. Other states and municipalities come back, say, governors, eastern though this one in your state obviously agrees with what youre saying, they do have the power to also sort of shut down, you know institutions, bars and restaurants if theyre deemed to be fostering or tricking an increase in cases because they dont honor social distancing and the rest. There is a precedent certainly through the virus where governments are given and have been given this power. You say there is a distinction here because these are private entities, right . Theyre private entities. Theyre also, they have voluntary participation. The parents, the students, the teachers, theyre all playing by the same rules. If they have people that violate the standards they can certainly ask them not to come back. We do need Governor Hogan to deem schools essential. That is how Montgomery County officer is getting around this, is because the governor has not deemed schools essential. He said stores are essential. You can take your kid to a store without a daily temperature check, without all these safety precautions. Somehow thats okay. But taking our kids to school to be educated is not okay. Were urging Governor Hogan to take action and stop this absolute overreach of power. Neil well see what he says. He is in a pickle here but you make a very reasoned, rational argument, kathy. Please keep us posted on this. I want to keep on top of this. This is playing out in number of cities and indeed states across the country. Well follow all that and also follow right now what is going on in california. Were talking about taking the heat politically. How about taking it literally. Wildfires out of control again in southern california. Ring a bell . For these folks, in these affected areas, yeah, again. My name is janelle hendrickson, and im an area manager here at amazon. When you walk into an amazon fulfillment center, its like walking into the Chocolate Factory and you won a golden ticket. Its an amazing feeling. My threeyearold, when we get a box delivered, he gets excited. He screams, mommys work when the pandemic started, we started shipping out all the safety stuff that would keep the associates safe to all the other amazons. All of these are face masks, weve sent well over 10 million gloves. And this may look like a bottle of vodka. When we first got these, we were like whoa [laughing] with this pandemic, safety is even more important because theyre going home to babies, theyre going home to grandparents. So, our responsibility is to make sure that they go home safe every single day. So, our responsibility is to make we could never do what they do. But what we can do it be a partner that never quits. Verizon is the most Reliable Network in america. Built for interoperability and puts First Responders first, giving their calls priority, 24 7. We do what we do best so they can too. Neil who knew, golfing is back. Baseball might have its bumps and football might have its bumps but how theyre faring on green theyre seeing a lot of green. Hillary vaughn following all that on the pinecrest golf course. Hillary. Reporter golf courses around the country took a billion dollar hit in revenue while covid19 closed courses around the country through march and april but now that golf courses are back open, they are on track to have an even better year than last year. Were seeing new faces, new names, new golfers, literally new golfers getting clubs in their hands for the first time at seven of our golf courses. Nationally through june rounds were up 14 . So golf is back. We havent seen this many rounds since the tiger boom, late 90s, early 2000s. Reporter around the country tee times are up 13 . That is combined 400 million more dollars in revenue. Every single state is seeing a bump in tee times, in golf heavy states up even more, arizona, georgia, florida, texas, up over 20 compared to last year. Not just courses seeing the surge. Golf retailers are saying inventory flying off the shelves. Online, one golf store is getting 10 times the number of sales as they have ever have before. Really been a onslaught of new golfers which is it really great to see. But of continue all golf. I dont think people are leaving town as much. Theyre around, they have a little more disposable income in a lot of cases because theyre not taking that vacation this year. So, we have definitely seen that in the performance of sales in june and july. Reporter neil, this golf course in particular says they normally see 100 tee times on a day like today. Today they have over 200 tee times. [laughter]. I was trying to do a live swing for you guys. Take two. All right. Neil, back to you. Neil you are targetter than i will ever be. I did hit it over the water. I dont do well under pressure. I apologize. I do know how to golf. I dont know how the pros do it. Very, very stressful doing it on camera. Neil miniature golf is easy, getting through the clowns nose with the nation watching. Great stuff. As always Hillary Vaughn on that. This must be a reprove from covering all the heated nasty political back and forths on capitol hill. She deserves that. Were following a lot of other developments. White house powwow with tech workers and big mucketymucks. The president normally talks on a variety of other subjectses. Sew weighing in the Tennessee Valley authority, the guy who heads that, this is government epentity, made more than 8 million last year. Reporter neil, that is the apple fire and it is only 5 contained. No injuries have been reported but 3 00 structures have been destroyed, one home, two outbuildings. Eight thousand people in the mountain, can i dont know neighborhoods near the fire are under mandatory evacuation. The red cross has provided shelter for about 70 people so far. Were just praying that everybodys safe and everybody that stayed here and didnt leave that were all safe and were all packed and ready to go. Reporter the apple fire exploded in size since it started friday evening in an Unincorporated Community in at the city of beaumont, 85 miles east of downtown los angeles. Fire Officials Say it started as two fires but turned into a massive fire that scorched 26,000acres of land ripping into the hillside and san bernanadino national forest. The cause of the fire is unknown but investigators are looking into whether it is a case of arson. Nearly 2300 firefighters are battling from the ground and air. Theyre working in dry, dusty, hot conditions and navigating through steep, rugged terrain. So what theyre going to be doing is theyre going to be really assessing a lot of areas in the south and west of the fire. Down in the pass here. Those are the areas obviously burned a day 1 2 ago. They will work getting some line around that. Reporter also the firefighters say they had to make a lot of procedural changes to the way they usually fight fires because of coronavirus. Theyre more heavy on aerial support right now. Instead of having hundreds of firefighters huddled together for morning briefings, theyre doing videoconferencing. So social distancing is definitely a part of their protocol right now. Neil . Neil christina coleman, thank you very much. I very much appreciate it. Other news that certainly much more uplifting yesterdays smashdown ever the dragon capsule, the spacex capsule, the astronauts spending better part of two months in the International Space station, landing on earth, on water, first time weve seen that in better part of what, since 1975 when apollo soyuz did it. This was then. This is the record holder now. This will be the way things will go when private enterprise begins to resume taking over our trips to the stars. Todd jones, bestselling author, sky walking, a former astronaut, with us right now t was spectacular to see and witness im sure for you as well, tom. Im wondering what this signals for the private space effort . The big picture here, neil, that weve got a commercial space transportation in being, proven that with the roundtrip concluded yesterday with the splashdown of the crew dragon. U. S. Has ways to get astronauts to and from the space station in lower earth orbit. We might see boeing join ranks of the suppliers. Nasa has restored its own launch capacity. That opens up the way for nasa to proceed in deep space. These commercial suppliers are providing transport to the station and back, increasing the productivity of science but deep components of our return to deep space of return to the moon and mars eventually. Neil i was thinking of you, tom, last time wechatted, talking about all the countries interested in staking a claim between moon and mars and china, united arab emirates, what russia already has been doing, what iran wants to do, it will get pretty crowded up there and i would like to say cooler and more scientifically curious heads prevail but i know maybe people think in the back of their minds is this going to lead to a new dangerous level of militarization, what do you think . Well i think there are actors out there in space, our adversaries, russia and china, for example, mo are playing out their own agendas. And so you know, russia has been conducting some disturbing antisatellite tests in low earth orbit and higher up at the geosynchronous level which could threaten our communications and reconnaissance satellite capabilities. We have to be prepared to deter those kind of aggression serves actions there. On the civil Space Exploration side. I think china is very intent on proving its a world player in exploration. Proceeded in putting a probe on mars next winter. Competing in the race to the moon, if you will. Those are all signs that they are a great power. I think they will push in that direction. So, nasa, has partnership of its own, the space station partnership, that it will carry most of the partners from that Coalition Forward to explore the moon and set out for mars in 10 years or so. Were in a good position. Youve got to do things technically and to prove that you can lead the coalition. The commercial splashdown yesterday a great step forward showing you can do things that make you a great space power. We have to keep moving forward on the deep space front to show were out in front of all of this new competition. Neil all right. Well watch it very closely. Tom jones, always a pleasure. Indeed an honor having you on. Early conqueror of the skies, tom jones. Thank you,. Neil by the way theyre getting ready for what will be the next spacex launch middle of next month. Four astronauts a woman, by the way and a japanese astronaut as these private initiatives continue to ramp up. As he also pointed out, as tom jones pointed out, spacex is not the only private game in town. There is richard branson, what he wants to do. Boeing what it hopes to do to sort of resurrect its space initiatives here. It will get pretty crowded. That is just here. More after this. Neil i want to show you something that got a lot of play across the country. These guys arent breaking into someone elses store. Its their own gym. In new jersey, they run the atilis gym, very very popular. The governor said you cant open for business even though you can make a pretty compelling argument a lot of other businesses that probably shouldnt be open, are open, and gyms where you cannot another logical argument are actually helping you weather this virus. The governor made it very clear they violated the law. We are waiting to hear from new Jersey Governor Phil Murphy exactly what punishment he might be considering meting out bee seeds tickets. Some say remove their license. Is that fair . Ian smith and Frank Trumbetti with us now, coowners of the atilis gym. Thank you both for coming. Have you heard, either of you heard from governor murphy yet . First of all, thanks for having us on. To date we have not heard anything from governor murphy. Hes never reached out and the whole purpose of why we reopened is we presented a plan very publicly in the hopes we could work with government to provide a framework for Small Businesses to operate. We havent been contacted by governor murphy unless its for punitive measures. Neil i guess one of the punitive measures that could be kicking around is to take your license away. All but forcing you out of business forever. What would you do if that was done . Well, we actually have a hearing with the local township, borough of bellmawr, the mayor and town council, tomorrow. Thats exactly what the meeting is about, taking our mercantile license away. Our response to that is good luck because they are not handling everybody the exact same way, they will be violating our Constitutional Rights and we will go ahead with a lawsuit against them and we will stay in business. Theres nothing that says, you know, we cant be in business without a mercantile license. Theyll just have to fine us. We will settle in court. We will be open. Neil you know, i have read about all of a sudden you guys did honor distancing provisions, to look at capacity, clean the equipment, aggressively Police Anyone who might even think about violating any of that. You did everything to the letter of Health Guidance rules that are out there. Still, shut down, forced to shut down. So you [ inaudible ] that arent gyms that remain open, not doing half that. Youve got to be pretty ticked off about that. That was one of our biggest issues in the beginning, the arbitrary argument between essential and not essential and the lax safety protocols put in place for Big Box Stores and everybody that was allowed to remain open and even now everybody that is allowed to be open today. Their safety protocols compared to ours is laughable. We have gone above and beyond that to the point of shutting us down is absurd. We do more than anybody in the state has and we will continue to. We meet with people, we meet with people every day who want to work with us with even newer Safety Measures so we will continue to keep rolling those out and pushing forward. We know were on the right side of this thing. We know we can protect people. Weve had close to 14,000 visits to the facility since midjune and not a single case reported. So the measures we are putting in place are proven to be effective at this point. Neil i dont wish either of you any bad luck. You have had more than your share of it but you are probably familiar that others who havent done, you know, anything like this have ended up in jail or fined out of existence or that their licenses revoked. Youre not quite at those extreme points although they have been threatened. What do you do . Well, they can threaten all they want. Recently we had to refile from an llc to a private members only association which actually helped us with a few loopholes in the laws to go along. But on top of that, they are going to have to legitimately put us out of business. They have violated so many Constitutional Rights not just of ours but everybodys. Its like the fact you close any business down, the fifth amendment says you cant close down legal use of business without actually just compensation. We have not been compensated. Nobody out there has been compensated whatsoever. The governors executive orders are not law. Thats the most important thing. Everybody keeps saying law. They are not law. They are not going through the judicial system and such. The fact is, we are close to 14 ther ,000, we have had 14,041 people come through our gym for business since june 16th and not a single positive case. We have done everything we can and more so than anybody else and we are coming up with a new thing where starting tomorrow, we will have available, a nurse will be here at least two to three days a week. We have acquired a rapid antibody blood test for covid19 that actually can test actually within five minutes, you will know. These pcr tests they use for all the data, they say they are accurate but they dont even test for the actual virus itself. They only test for a protein and because its in your nose doesnt mean its in your body any way whatsoever. All of the data comes from nothing and everything the state does and our government are conclusionary statements they have no Scientific Data backing them up and we have plenty of Scientific Data, you know, we have gathered on our own and other people have helped us gather, and i wish them luck. Im prepared, ian is prepared. I hope our lawyers are prepared as far as it goes to battle this all the way to the supreme court. I truly believe within the end, the little guys going to win. I really do. Neil real quickly, we [ inaudible ] town council, we keep calling the Governors Office but one of the questions i would have for the governor if we did ever land him was it was okay for him to attend protests where no one was honoring distancing provisions at all, no punishment meted out for that for the governor himself or those of the protests but you guys who were honoring and had a system in place to deal with capacity and crowding issues, you are the ones who will be driven out of business. You know, its pretty disappointing that this is a representation of the american government. You know, i grew up always with the understanding that Government Works with and for the people. And this is just an example of government working against the people. Theres no excuse for the way we have been treated. We started this peacefully and kept it peaceful the entire time. And the double standards are numerous and ridiculous. You know, the protests are just one. You know, whats even funnier is if its the wrong kind of protest, murphy is against it but if its the right one and its good for his political campaign, then thats okay. Its always this rule of government as do as i say, not as i do sort of mentality. Thats not right. Thats not the way its supposed to be. Were not afraid to stand up to that because its wrong and we know in our hearts that its wrong and in the end, like frank said, we know that the little man is going to prevail in this. Neil well, i dont think i mentioned to you guys, i heard a lot of these things they call workouts and how theyre supposed to be good for you, so i wish you luck, gentlemen. Hang in there. We did reach out, as i say, to the Governors Office, have not heard back. That would be my opening question as i raised with these gentlemen, is there a double standard here, and is that fair, is that right. We will wait for the phone to ring. In the meantime, we are waiting on, well, a potential vaccine therapy, cure, whatever you want to call it for the coronavirus. At least a dozen Major Companies either acting on their own or in concert with other players and even the United States government, in fact, some foreign governments, are racing to find a cure or treatment or vaccine. Eli lilly, the latest getting all that attention. Edward lawrence keeping track of all of that. Hey, edward. Reporter trying to keep track. This is a race the world is actually watching very closely. It does appear that astrazeneca may be first out with a vaccine in october, if everything goes well. In fact, the company is based in the united kingdom, has been working with Oxford University on trials around the world in phase three at the moment. They are looking at two different doses per person, one initial one and a booster about 20 days later. The u. S. Has given that company 1. 2 billion to help in manufacturing and testing of the vaccine. It also secures 300 million doses for the u. S. Other companies also expected to have a vaccine this year. Two of them, chinese. They are both in phase three trials. One has a long history of producing vaccines that end up working. The u. S. Is putting its eggs in the basket of astrazeneca, also moderna and pfizer for vaccines this year. Moderna and pfizer are in phase three trials. Just a little bit behind, astrazeneca. Senator Tammy Baldwin says there are risks with moving this quickly towards a vaccine. The risk is that it wont be effective and they will have manufactured and there will be no use for them. But if you dont do that, we find that the vaccine is useful and is effective, you dont want to have to wait another six months or more to ramp up the manufacturing of it. So they reduced the numbers of vaccine prospects they are doing with this. Reporter thats why the u. S. Is invested with or secured purchasing agreements with at least six vaccine makers. This is about life and death with the virus but its also political with an election just 91 days out. Listen to this. There is a solution and god willing, we will have a vaccine one of these days soon, matter of months, but people can be affected and die in the meantime, and that impacts on our economy. Reporter democrats focused on those folks who could become sick but the october surprise this year could be a vaccine. Well have to see. Neil that would be a very big deal. Edward lawrence, thank you very very much. How big a deal really depends on the medical authority you talk to. Weve got a darned good one, the professor at Texas Tech University health sciences, much much more, on this. Doctor, i dont know who has the edge in this quest for a virus or treatment sorry, vaccine or treatment, but you increasingly hear from even the likes of dr. Fauci that one could be in folks hands by early next year, perhaps sooner. Do you agree with that . I hope so. Thank you for having me. I do hope so. Im hopeful for this vaccine. I think it will be a big part of the solution in combination with many of the other behaviors and things we are doing to keep the virus at bay. I dont think its personally going to be a panacea. I dont think people are going to just line up and do it in the beginning. Just judging from Human Behavior and past behaviors with vaccines with patients ive seen, but i think the stuff we are following, are good and the fact we can do it quickly means we can do it without taking shortcuts, instead of doing steps in series, we are doing them in parallel. Hopefully we speed up the process, keep the safety and can get this virus behind us. Neil you know, a number of governors and municipalities are reimposing restrictions. We just mentioned whats happening in new jersey, where some gym owners are at a loss as to know why they are being fingered to stay closed or lose their licenses if they dont. Now we are hearing from governor murphy, theres a need to go back to putting restrictions on. He didnt delineate exactly where but he hinted at restaurants that need to open their walls to open indoors. In other words, to allow for that separation of people. But hes not the first governor to sort of reimpose restrictions. Im wondering what you make of that and do we risk going through this every time we either open schools, resume sports, where you will get an inevitable spike in cases regardless . What do you think . Thats a great question. What i would honestly like to do is find the best of both worlds. Often, what the governors and leaders are doing is basing this on mathematical models and there are incredible mathematical models, genius level people working at this. They collect the data and basically make projections on a graph, and we have learned a lot from that. For instance, seasonality. You look at the data with latitude from the equator so if you are further from the equator, you are going to have more variability versus someone closer to the equator, and from that, you can project numbers about seasonality. So similarly, they are looking at data from if you make this law, that law, if you wear masks, and they are trying to make the best decisions possible. From what im seeing in the emergency room is that our testing has increased, we are able to test more people, and luckily, the people who come in and they end up intubated on a ventilator, we are able to decrease their mortality. In the beginning, it was like 80 mortality if youre on a ventilator, if not more. Now its in the 30s. But i would also say that what im seeing thats different than a typical flu season is our floors are filling up and icus are filling up. Thats not something we typically see. So to answer your question, we are looking at mathematical models and the testing in and of itself, is that important, i dont think so. I think its our behavior from the testing. The actions we take from the testing, whether we Contact Trace or whether we follow the rules as individuals and try to make the best decision for our particular community. Neil well put. I always learn a lot. Thank you again. Thank you for all your hard work on behalf of everybody and even enduring idiotic anchors questions like my own. Very good to have you. Be well. All right. Good advice. By the way, dr. Anthony fauci is on the wires right now, saying that states with highest risk of an outbreak should indeed reconsider imposing some shutdown measures within a nanosecond of that, we are hearing new jersey governor murphy is following up on that, retightening restrictions on indoor gatherings, cancpping th at a max of 25 people. Can you imagine all these people who rearranged their weddings where they were allowing crowds better than 100, i believe 150, as long as they were spread out at such venues. Com moving today. Neil all right. We are less than a minute away from hearing the president of the United States. Hes meeting with a lot of tech workers, big honchos but hes talked about that microsoft tiktok deal that hes very confident as long as they can get it done by september 15th hes fine with that. Sort of a proviso here the treasury better reap dineros out of this, it should be in the taxpayers interest, that means money for taxpayers. Im kind of trivializing it and paraphrasing it but thats important to him. Anything past september 15th, the doubts are out there as to whether anything would pass muster. Microsoft has been up on the notion here that as expensive of a purchase as this might be, longer term, they become instantly a premier player in the social media market, competing with the likes of facebook and a host of others. So even with that price tag now, keep in mind microsoft has a lot of cash on hand, the feeling seems to be that it would be a wise and good strategic move. Steve ballmer, the former ceo, indicating as much. Now the president. Know that you spoke i did. Reporter could you give us an update . Yeah. We had a great conversation. He called me to see whether or not how i felt about it and i said look, it cant be controlled for security reasons by china. Too big, too invasive and it cant be, and heres the deal. I dont mind whether its microsoft or somebody else, a big company, secure company, very american company, buy it. Its probably easier to buy the whole thing than to buy 30 of it because i say how do you do 30 , whos going to get the name, the name is hot, the brand is hot, and whos going to get the name, how do you do that if its owned by two different companies. So my personal opinion was youre probably better off buying the whole thing rather than buying 30 of it. I think buying 30 is complicated and i suggested that he could go ahead, he could try. We set a date, i set a date of around september 15th at which point its going to be out of business in the United States. But if somebody, whether its microsoft or somebody else, buys it, that will be interesting. I did say that if you buy it, whatever the price is, that goes to whoever owns it because i guess its china, essentially, more than anything else. I said a very substantial portion of take price is going to have to come into the treasury of the United States because we are making it possible for this deal to happen. Right now they dont have any rights unless we give it to them so if were going to give them the rights, then it has to come into it has to come into this country. Its a little bit like the landlord tenant without a lease. The tenant has nothing. So they pay whats called key money or they pay something but the United States should be reimbursed or should be paid and a substantial amount of money because without the United States, they dont have anything. At least having to do with the 30 . So i told him that. I think were going to have maybe a deal is going to be made. Its a great asset. Its a great asset but its not a great asset in the United States unless they have the approval of the United States. So it will close down on september 15th unless microsoft or somebody else is able to buy it and work out a deal, an appropriate deal so the treasury, really, the treasury i guess you would say of the United States gets a lot of money. A lot of money. Okay . Reporter can you explain why so many of the Public Health experts on the Coronavirus Task force are contradicting on things like why the virus is so widespread in this country, on the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine . Why are so many of these people on your task force contradicting . I think were doing a great job. I think were doing great on vaccines, were doing great on therapeutics. Youll be seeing that very soon. I think when you look at a map, versus a map of the i have sort of shown that around a little bit but the red is the area most concerned, pretty recent map of the country and theres a lot of a lot of people, a lot of areas that have gotten very, you know, better very fast. Hydroxy has tremendous support but politically its toxic because i supported it. If they would have said do not use hydroxychloroquine under any circumstances, they would have come out and they would have said its a great thing. Many doctors have come out strongly in favor of it. They want it very badly. Its a great malaria drug. So for many years let me finish my answer. So for many years, its i guess 60 years, its been a malaria drug, very successful as you know, and its been also a drug for lupus and it caused no trouble, virtually nothing in terms of causing people to get sick or having problems with anything. You add the zinc and you add the azithromycin, the zpack as they call it, and its been very i happened to take it myself. The threesome. I took it myself for a period of two weeks. I had no problem. I had no problem whatsoever. And importantly, i didnt test positive. Thats very nice, okay, im very happy about that, negative. So thats the story. Its very highly thought of. Interestingly, a great doctor from what i understand, a great doctor from yale feels very strongly about hydroxychloroquine. The ford clinic in michigan came out with a very very powerful paper saying its very good. Many other, in france as you know, they came out with a very positive statement. Many individual doctors have come out with very positive statements. I will tell you that if i was surrounded by people, as i was at the time, the reason i took it, we had some people that were relatively near me that tested positive, and i took it for that reason, just because i have heard good things. Reporter fauci says it doesnt work. Well, i dont agree with fauci on everything. I dont agree with fauci. Look, fauci didnt want it. I like him, i get along with him actually great, but he didnt want to ban people from china from coming into the country and i overrode him and i did the right thing. He was saying face masks are no good a short while ago. It doesnt mean hes a bad person because hes not. Hes a good person. I like him. But we disagree on things. We disagree on things. Now, i will say this. We have done an amazing job with ventilators. We are supplying the world with ventilators. Ventilators are very hard, very expensive, very hard to make, very complex. Very complicated machines. Very expensive hold it. Hold it. Hold it. Reporter the u. S. Has so many deaths compared to so many countries around the world. Fake news cnn, hold it. We have done a great job in this country. We havent been given enough not me, im not talking about me. The Vice President , the task force, have not been given the kind of credit. If you look, countries all over the world are exploding right now. People that you said were doing a wonderful job, so wonderful, but right now take a look at the countries that are exploding. You have italy back, you have spain back, you have france back, you have germany back, you have a lot of countries and thats not to knock them. It is a very delicate, very contagious disease. It was released by china. It should never have been allowed to release. There was the source where you could have stopped it and they did stop it from going into china, although now, they say that china is having a lot of problems. Moscow in russia is having tremendous problems. What china unleashed was a very very sad situation. With all of that being understood, the United States has done an amazing job, a great job, and you are going to see that because we have vaccines and we have therapeutics coming very soon. Yeah. Go ahead. Reporter why are you not involved directly in negotiations with capitol hill . I am. The fact that im not over there with crazy nancy . Im totally involved. Im totally involved. Were going to be doing some things that are very good because we dont think that she look, what chuck shchume wants more than anybody and i would say nancy pelosi would be second, they want to bail out cities and states that have done a bad job over a long period of time. Nothing to do with coronavirus or china virus or whatever you want to call them. They want to bail out cities and states. They want bailout money. They want a trillion dollars in bailout money. A lot of people dont want to do that. Because we dont think its right. The democrats have run some very bad states and some very very bad cities and a lot of people dont want to give them a trillion dollars to reward them for doing a bad job. If you look at some of the states, i wont insult anybody by naming those states but you know what they are. They want bailout money. Theyre not interested in the people. Theyre not interested in unemployment. Theyre not interested in evictions which is a big deal. The evictions. They want to evict a lot of people are going to be evicted. But im going to stop it because ill do it myself if i have to. I have a lot of powers with respect to executive orders and were looking at that very seriously right now. But what the democrats want, they want they are slowrolling it and all they are really interested in is bailout money to bail out radical left governors and radical left mayors like in portland and places that are so badly run. Chicago, new york city. You see whats going on over there. Bail out cities and states who have been poorly run and spent a fortune doing it. They want a trillion dollars and were really not interested in that. Okay. Thank you very much. Thank you. Doing a great job. Not afraid of nobody. Neil all right. You never know. I never like to jump on these things, at the last second sometimes you get the president to respond or make an added comment there. Besides promising developments he says is happening right now on the virus front, he did take exception with some of his experts who say another wave could be coming but more news was made certainly on the microsoft tiktok phenomenon here, where he says if microsoft wants that, and hes open to that, he talked to the company ceo last night, they better get hopping, get it resolved by september 15th because after that, the threatened ban could potentially go into effect. That could be by executive order, at least in the outset here. We will see where that goes. But microsoft on this apparent clearing the way for it to go ahead and put an offer together for the social media chinese giant, is propelling the stock up about nine bucks plus. About 4. 5 . That has been a key to lifting the markets, particularly the nasdaq, into record territory. Apple is certainly doing its part with the better than expected numbers we got last week, and the eventual four for one stock split that would commence next month. We are following these developments. But the fallout on this microsoft tiktok back and forth with David Bahnsen of the Bahnsen Group and jackie deangelis. Jackie, let me begin with you and what the president more or less said is im not a fan of tiktok and i have my reservations about chinese influence with tiktok but if microsoft can clear all those issues, im okay with it. Did i interpret that correctly . I think you got it exactly right. He acknowledged that its a really hot product right now so he wants to keep it here. The way i see this is taking a stance on technology the way he did on steel, for example, and trying to bring it all back home. You know, for previous through previous administrations, i think the chinese kind of looked like at the United States like nobody was manning the store and this president is stepping up and saying nope, theres rules, theres regulations here, our Tech Companies are going to have to follow them, the grilling on capitol hill of the ceos i think was one example, but you have a little bit more control over people like Mark Zuckerberg than you do over the chinese. They dont like this. They are calling this discrimination. Even when they dont follow the rules. I think thats really interesting, because this is about what do you do with user data, are you doing the right thing by people who are using your product and you know what, the United States is saying if you dont, you cant do business here. What i also thought was interesting was the fact that he said treasury may take a piece of this deal, that landlord tenant relationship that he brought up there. That is really interesting to me. Neil frankly, you are smarter than i, i didnt understand that. I thought it was just a private transaction and be done with it. David, where do you see this going . How can we see the Parent Company here keeping its word that this will be an american spinoff, that the Parent Company said we will move out of the United States, clear the way, you know, that the promise made, some of those cosmetic moves may be welcomed but how do we know that all of this chicanery thats been charged magically goes away with a transaction like this . First, in your defense as to why you didnt understand what the president was talking about as far as the country taking a piece of the deal, because you are an american and you are not used to such insane things being said about a private transaction. That sounds like what the Chinese Communist government would say about a private transaction, that they were going to take a piece of it because they can. That was by far the most surreal part of his comments. But let me answer your question. Listen, this whole thing is so difficult because first of all, i have kids who are obsessed over tiktok and i desperately want them to stop using it so much even though they made me do a little tiktok video last night. You would think i [ inaudible ] [ laughter ] i understand there has to be cracking down on these companies where china is overdoing the issues with security. There has to be some regulation. But almost all tiktok users are on an apple app, believe it or not. Iphone, ipad, et cetera. If there was violations of those things going on, they would be the best equipped to regulate that. I dont blame the president for wanting to crack down on chinese ownership of some of these companies. But we have to be concerned about the precedent being set of the u. S. Government intervening into a private transaction like this and then for him to moments ago, as jackie pointed out, threatening to take a piece of the transaction. It is absolutely unamerican. Neil you know, jackie, you are far more [ inaudible ] than i would ever be. Kids dont want any Government Intervention on this because they like it the way it is just fine. Im wondering, a lot of those videos, some of the better known ones, are zingers against the president. Im wondering if this has more to do with those zingars and notsoflattering videos, they are all in good humor, but that that might be playing a part here. Listen, it could. He goes after his attackers very hard on twitter. We have seen that. He doesnt take to criticism very well, even if its funny. But to speak to what you are talking about, what you guys are saying about your children using this app and loving the app, it is really popular. He seems to be promoting the fact that he wants to keep it in business, he wants to keep it operating. He doesnt want it to go away. He just wants it to be working and regulated here by a company like microsoft versus bytedance which is a chinese company. Now, in your last hour, you talked to charlie about the fact that maybe bytedance would move their headquarters to london, for example. But realize that the complications that i read about the technology with this app is that its the back end part of it is really still connected to sister apps in china. Im not sure if its fair to say that apples got some control here or if the Company Really also has the accountability as well. Frankly, i dont know even if the deal moves forward with microsoft, how easily it will be to divorce that technology. This is all unprecedented and it remains to be seen. Neil you know, very quickly, that microsoft stock is up on this and its going to be an expensive transaction if it comes to pass. I heard figures as high as 100 billion. You know this far better than i. No matter what it costs, its well worth it. Do you agree with that . More than likely. First off, microsoft has been a good acquirer. When you look at the skype transaction, which i thought was overpriced at the time, and you looked at linkedin which i thought was overpriced at the time, they have done very well there. In this case, its actually a forced sale. The reason microsoft is up is because they are buying a very valuable asset and what will inevitably be a discount to market. I think to jackies point, i wasnt suggesting that apple can regulate it. I was saying that apple hasnt even noticed or detected any wrongdoing yet. Im fully supportive of there being rigorous ability to stop the Chinese Government from getting their hands on american data and i think the sale of the company is a fine way to go about doing that. I agree to moving it to london and keeping some connectivity to chinese companies. Theres going to be too many strings attached. But its fair to point out the state department is not even alleging they found any of those infractions yet here. In this case, without that evidence, there is a pretty heavy amount of intervention going on. Hopefully the sale goes through, everybodys happy and we move on and the government doesnt demand a piece of the transaction. In case you cant tell, that part really bothered me today. Neil i dont feel such an idiot now because one of the most widely respected guys on the street is saying that and jackies raising some serious concerns about that, im not a complete doofus despite all these people emailing just the opposite. Thank you both very very much. We will monitor this closely. Weve got the dow up about 245 points. Technology is leading the way. Microsoft and apple, certainly not hurting matters any. Stay with us. Eastern time, so little bit more than three hours, 15 minutes from now, do the math backwards there. Anyway, we will wait to see what that is. It could be a followup on this microsoft tiktok development, more stimulus help on the way, the latter naturally brings us to the labor secretary of the United States, eugene scalia. Secretary, always good to have you. Do you know what this 5 00 p. M. Event is about, sir, and whether it would involve stimulus . Well, obviously the president is very focused on trying to move that package forward so that we can get Economic Impact payments to the American People so that we can restore federally supplemented unemployment benefit payments to American Workers. I dont know the precise subject of the press conference. I was with the president earlier today to talk about the Tennessee Valley authority and how it was replacing some of its workers with workers from consulting firms that use a lot of h1b workers. That was a focus just about an hour or so ago in an event he had at the white house. Neil i do know, as well, secretary, he made note of the head of the tba netting an 8 million plus salary. For a guovernment worker, that isnt too bad. I suspect yours isnt in that range. It surprised a lot of folks. How does that happen . Well, thats one of the questions being asked. The president did let go of one or maybe two of the Board Members of the tva, out of concern that salary. It was a heartfelt meeting, a meeting with the president , the Vice President was there and a number of these workers from the tva who have been given their pink slips. Some of them are actually training their replacement. They have been told by the tva that although they have been there for years, they are not good enough to remain but they are good enough to train their replacements. That is a pattern that we see in other workplaces and the president signed an order today that i think is quite important. Its something we have been taking a look at the labor department. Right now, when an employer wants to bring workers in on h1b visas, it has to attest that its not going to adversely affect that companys employees. But what happens often is that company is an outsourcing firm and it is displacing and adversely affecting workers at another company. So the president has ordered us to make clear that when those workers are going to another company, they are going to be replaced at the second company, that company also has to attest the h1b workers wont be adversely affecting their u. S. Workers either. I think thats going to be an important change that addresses an endrun around this h1b program. You know, there is an Important Role for h1b. I know you believe that, neil. But we do need to make sure that American Workers arent unfairly being displaced by circumventing the checks and precautions that congress put in place. Neil where does the stimulus talks stand . I know the president says even though he does not talk to crazy nancy, as he referred to the speaker of the house, he is intimately involved in the process. There has been talk about 1200 stimulus checks, maybe extending the Unemployment Benefits at the federal level though not as much. Whats the latest . Well, talks are ongoing. And the president is frustrated by the democrats refusal even to allow a vote on a shortterm extension of that 600 a week unemployment plusup. There was an attempt at the end of last week by the republicans to allow a vote just to extend that a week so they could continue their deliberations, come up with a new supplement, but the democrats wouldnt allow that. So its been difficult to try to move the package forward, even provide a temporary solution, but the talks are ongoing and that unemployment amount is certainly part of the focus. As you know, unemployment is a stateadministered system ordinarily. Its very unusual to have the federal government provide additional payments. It did during the great recession, 10, 12 years ago, 25 a week, but as we were closing our economy in march, congress agreed to a shortterm payment of 600 a week, which actually in some states means as much as 5,00r 75,000 aearea on on mbincombinhambin withehe stete fit. Fifi sosohatsoha nr oug t cece but b t b pdentsidesoess s o to torovi pupportrtrt t to ploy. Mentntrem o rem l neil y pency si hloaised ri ee ssibpoity,il etary, oarfy nlyonon reduc rininhatt at une uloym uenlo. Duc redtit would you b yeou boupe bnn to t . Is the administration open to that . Well, that doesnt actually make sense. One of the concerns about the 600 amount is that for nearly 70 of the people receiving it, its more than they got while they were working. For about 20 of the people getting it, 600 a week is twice what they were getting. When they were working. So the concern is that when Unemployment Benefits are that high, it can at the margins disincentivize people to return to the work force so its would keep the unemployment number high. When i meet with Business People and travel around the country, almost every single discussion that i have with business leaders, theres at least one company concerned that they are having a hard time bringing workers back because of that particular benefit amount. Neil all right. We will watch closely, secretary. I know much could be done still behind the scenes. Its probably happening behind the scenes. Always good having you. Thank you very much. Neil the president confirming what our Charlie Gasparino has been reporting he did indeed have a conversation on microsoft on companys bid for the china social media giant tiktok. The president seemed to be indicating he would be for it right now but if it gets much past september 15th. All bets are off. Charlie gasparino, what do you think of all this . You know, it sounds like theyre going to approve the deal. There is clearly a war, a civil war inside of the white house. I cant wait to hear larry kudlow deny the civil war between him and mnuchin but there is one. This as well as the stimulus package. Navarro, hardliners are trying to convince the president that he should take a very tough line. You kind of see the president in his comments supporting the deal which is supported by steve mnuchin, treasury secretary and secretary pompeo. Throws in a caveat maybe government needs to take a piece of this. I think that is insane. I dont know why microsoft would agree to Something Like that. My guess is by tonight, well have an idea exactly where the president stands on this it looks like he is aiming for the sort of, solution that makes the deal go through, instead of an executive order that bands it totally. Its a rulingly cfius, the committee on Foreign Investment in the u. S. Which essentially says you got, you have 45 days to do this deal, convince us that you got all the security locked down. I think thats where were going with. I would be surprised if President Trump does not mention tiktok during his 5 00 p. M. , it would be like burying the lead. Neil i think you might be right.
