Especially the use of deadly force x for an exemption of racial inequality. But its morphed now. Within days those supporting the black lives Matter Movement turned virtually every issue into one of rouse. Either you believed in the narrative that floyds death was another example of systemic racism and you must be cleansed, or you were an ignorant bigot who needed to be shamed, and you will be shamed and delegitimized and starved of your livelihood. Examples are proliferating. This week the Washington Post ran a story about a woman who attended a Halloween Party in 2018 in black face to mock former fox and nbc anchor megyn kelly whod recently said that she didnt know black face was a crick capture. It probably wasnt the smartest thing to do, expect woman tried to apologize afterwards. But here we are two years later, the story was resurrected by someone who attended the party and promoted to National Front page status, and the woman involved is actually fired from her job. Well, consider this a reporter for nbc news worked with leftwing activists in the u. K. This week to get google to drop advertising from conservative web site the federalist because of some apparently offensive comments on the site. Google now controls more than threequarters of online advertising, so getting dropped by them is basically a death sentence for any web site. The federalist cofounder, sean davis, told Tucker Carlson on tuesday that were looking at a real threat now to free speech. This is a pretty terrifying example of the power that you have between the unholy union of corrupt media and monopolistic tech oligarchs. Gerry now, google later clarified that the federalist had not yet been denied ad revenue but had been issued a stern warning about its content. How many leftleaning sites have ever received such a warning . Ill wait. Meanwhile, campaigns are underway to pull down statues, remove distinguished professors from their posts. As long as youre on the side of the orthodoxy, you are do what you like. If youre not, you better stay home and to what youre told. Liberals and their medi allies a a media allies are lambasting President Trump for holding a Campaign Rally in tulsa for putting people at health risk. Again, lets be clear, racism is wrong. Its repulsive, its right, indeed, that the country should root it out. But what do we actually mean by racism . You may think you know it and recognize it, but actually you dont. The new totalitarianism is built on new rules. Its not enough just to be to opposed. Listen to what robin deangelo, the author of white fragility, listen to what she said in an interview on National Public radio earlier this month. Racism is the foundation of the society we are in. And to simply carry on with absolutely no act interruption of that system active interruption of that system is to be complicit with it. And in that way, we can say that nice white people who really arent doing anything other than being nice people are racist. Theres no neutral place. Gerry have you got that . It simply wont do anymore to be a nice white person. If you are, youll be publicly denounced, shamed and quite possibly fired from your job. So where does this all end . What about the hypocrisy of those who have created two sets of rules when it comes to protests, policing and racism . Here to talk about all that is steven l. Miller, contributor to the u. S. Edition of the spectator magazine called spectator usa. Steven, thank you very much for joining us. Im not sure if you were able to hear that, but apparently its not enough to be a nice white person. Are you racist . [laughter] im not a a racist. I dont know how nice i am, no. Generally, yeah, theyre backing people into a corner where especially this author of this book which is going around right now on twitter, social media, theyre backing you into a corner of you cant win, it doesnt matter a what you do, it doesnt matter what you say. Were going to come for you anyway, and when we do, you just are have to sit down and take it. Thats ultimately where theyre operating from, ultimately where they want to take this which is the mob is going to eventually come for you, and you just have to lay down and let it happen. Gerry where does it end . Does it end when the mob has got everybody they want . Is there any hope here that maybe theres some kind of a backlash and that things start to turn around again . I think that theres probably a good chance of that. I dont know when or how long thats going to be. As long as, you know, these groups are allowed to set up autonomous zones or now were tearing down founders statues, you know, a lot of us knew this wasnt just going to end with removing confederate i statues which is generally the argument. Its not about defending the confederacy, its about we know this isnt going to stop. Its very similar to when somebody like alex jones is deplatformed from google and twitter. As you mentioned, we know this isnt going to just stop with alex jones, this is going to go to more mainstream sites on the right. Its going to go to places like the federalist, and eventually its going to reach to places Like National review and the spectator. I like the spectator, they pay me, so i dont want to see that happen. Gerry nor do i. Where did this come from . Literally just a few weeks ago, again, we thought we knew what racism was, and most of us despise it, want to root it out. Now were being told america a terrible country, and weve got to completely undo our past and completely remake ourselves. Where kid this come from where did this come from in. Well, i mean, this is obviously, its obviously stemmed from the last, you know, four or five, six, seven, eight years when we saw this swell up on College Campuses. We saw this at the university of missouri where they started having nogo zones, and they started having professors, you know, threaten photographers, and everyone remembers a clip of that professor yelling for muscle and everything like that. What youre seeing now is youre seeing the campusification of all of society. Youre seeing this now permeating to newsrooms where editors are no longer in charge of their employees. Its the employees who are going to gather up to get their editors fired. We saw this at mozilla so many years back with brendan ike who was forced out because his employees doesnt like a Campaign Contribution he made 10 or 12 year prior. Youre seeing this idea on College Campuses about free speech, we dont want speaks here. This is bleeding over to every aspect of american life, bleeding over into newsrooms, into jobs, just random people. You mentioned the story in the Washington Post which i think is one of the most egregious acts of journalism ever put into print. This woman who wore a costume which we can talk about the choice of the costuming but shes not a public citizen. Shes a private citizen. She was at a private party, and two years later the Washington Post dragging it up. We saw from reason, i think, indicated exactly why. They knew that the mob was going to come for the Washington Post eventually and say why are you hosting parties with members with black face . Why arent you condemning gerry yeah. Its a thrilling, sort of throwing people to the sharks in the hope to save themselves. Yeah, correct. Gerry we need to take a break, short break. Get zero percent apr financing for up to five years on select models and exclusive lease offers. Gerry im back with conservative author steven l. Miller. Steven, lets talk about the coronavirus. This is a strange phenomenon, you know, were told everybody had to stay indoors, nobody could go out when states started to open up, red states in particular like florida and georgia, they were going to kill people and how terrible it was to be out. Then we had all these protests, and thats apparently fine. Nobodys going to get ineffected, and its actually their duty to come out. Now again when President Trump wants to hold a big rally or people, again, in red states want to come out, no, apparently youre going to get sick again. You wrote about this this week. Can you tell us whats going on . Yeah. I mean, we were told first, we were told 15 days to slow the spread, then possibly wed have to stay locked down for months, i think it was up to about 90 days, and then that all kind of went out the window when protests started. You know, i dont think anybodys coming out and saying you shouldnt be able to protest, but theres two issues at work here. One is constitutionality. You still have governors who are locking down synagogues and churches and mosques, and you cant allow large groups of people to go out and protest is and tell people your place of worship is too dangerous, we cant allow this to happen. So actually surprised me weve weve we havent seen more lawsuits. The second is we were told that the cdc data and that this virus awe effects urban communities the most, you know, communities with Poor Health Care systems in it, poor employment. George floyd himself was a victim of this virus. He was laid off at his job because we had to go into shutdown. You had a all of these people coming out to protest police brutality. This is something thats more important, this is a bigger virus. The problem is i dont understand how you square this virus hits communities of color, but we need to all mass gather and superspread this virus to save black lives. Gerry and, again, as you say, youve got to save black lives by going out and protesting and putting people at risk but their argument, but at the same time you cant go to church or to a mosque or meet your family or go to terrible cases of people wanting to go to parents funerals and things like that. Yeah. And on the most personal level, and i think people see this, its you have governors, you have mayors like the mayor of new york city and the governor of new york who are encouraging people, the mayor of d. C. Encouraging people to come out and protest. And on a more intimate level, people couldnt say goodbye to loved ones, they couldnt visit them in the hospital, they couldnt even plan a small funeral. They couldnt have a funeral that was over ten people. To people see this kind of stuff, and we now have politicized Public Health because we have this issue with about a thousand supposed Public Health officials, some of them were just activists, signing a letter saying we support the protests because racism is a worse virus. The virus doesnt care if youre out protesting, the virus doesnt care if youre at a baseball game, at a bar or a restaurant. It doesnt just skip you like, you know, you painted blood on your door, oh, no, youre okay. Gerry okay. Stephen, weve got to wrap it up, but thank you very much, indeed, for those fascinating on vegases. Up next, a woman who says the black lives Matter Movement doesnt speak for her or, undeed, for many other indeed, for many other i just love hitting the open road and telling people that Liberty Mutual customizes your insurance, so you only pay for what you need [squawks] only pay for what you need. Gerry or my next guest says the black lives Matter Movement only fueling racial antagonism and gets in the way of progress for africanamericans. She lives in washington, d. C. , and shes a Health Care Administrator as well as a Senior Airman and dental assistance in the air force reserves. Earlier this month she wrote an oped in the wall street journal entitled violence threatens black lives. Thank you very much, indeed, for joining us. I want to start, if i may, quoting that article you wrote in the journal. You actually said at the end of that article, let me quote it to you, black lives matter and its supporters dont represent all black american, they dont represent our communities, they dont speak for us, they dont act in our best interests, and they dont care about our prosperity. The overwhelming majority of black americans are the peaceful protests like those led by Martin Luther king. You say they dont represent most africanamericans, but they seem a very powerful force right now. They seem to be sweeping the country, in many ways running the Democratic Partys policy on these things. So they do seem to be a very powerful political force. Its just hike you said like you said, they seem. But to be fair here, [inaudible] based on very false principles, the idea that africanamericans everybody will agree they dont talk about the fact that frums in the africanamericans in the contribute 1. 5 trillion to the u. S. Economy. That is one thing they do not talk about. You will agree [inaudible] for people who are supposed to be oppressed. Gerry but they say the whole movement started as a result of the george floyd movement, this protest started as the result of the george north dakota killing. We had the Rayshard Brooks killing this week which the movement and, again, many of their supporters in the Democratic Party say is evidence of racism in the plus, police brutality, targeting of africanamericanings. What do you say to that . I like to look at im a numbers person. That is very, very, very false, okay . We have a bigger problem. The bigger problem we have is in our community, its called violence, okay . This year 88 africanamericans were killed and 172 whited people. The idea that its police brutality, its false. If its about police brutality, why is there outrage when white people are the victim of the same brutality . Gerri so whats the agenda . What are they trying to do . I mean, im not going to pretend i know, but i would just tell you for sure that what theyre doing is not speaking for us, forcing us to believe in things which are not true. You know, as a black woman, africanamerican, having a white person tell me in public how to feel about myself is the most racially [inaudible] situation in america. Its not true. Gerry you yourself actually protested against black lives matter on the streets of washington, d. C. Absolutely. And i will do that with every energy i possibly have, with all the support i have from my africanamerican community. They do not seek for do not speak for us. Based on everything weve seen before, its to create antagonism in america. Gerry what reaction have you had from black lives matter, friends, what reaction have you had to standing up like this . Ive had tremendous support i have tremendous support because ill tell you the problem is black lives matter is a group which is for the most part white, and this is the group speaking for us, africanamericans. We africanamericans support what im saying and what im doing because we are black. I know the problem. I [inaudible] economically challenged community in washington, d. C. , i know the problems theyve had. Most of these white people speaking for us, im not sure theyve ever spent a week in an economically challenged neighborhood in washington d. C. So you will agree thats gerry very quickly, weve got to wrap up, but what should we be focusing on in terms of dealing with these issues of racial inequality and tension . Absolutely. Like i said, africanamericans are thriving, were strong in terms of our spending power, like continuously strong. However, some of us is have, you know, difficulties. Some of our Community Faces challenges, okay . Ibm has done a beautiful job of partnering with, you know, academic institutions. We need to model, you know, solutions on what ibm is doing. Economically challenged communities to not lack skill. We need to have all the bug companies, the Tech Companies create partnerships with schools in economicallychallenged neighborhoods. What we need to do is create a path from school to employment for africanamerican communities. Thats e what we need. Closing the opportunity gap. Gerry thank you very much, indeed, for joining us and for giving us those fascinating insights that you dont always hear. Just ahead, this week we got yet another tellall memoir from another Trump Administration official, and it has a number of interesting lessons but perhaps some unexpected ones about how washington workings. Ill explain. At Fisher Investments, we do things differently and other Money Managers dont understand why. Because our way works great for us but not for your clients. Because its my vision. Preservision. Gerry a long, long timing ago, all the a way back to 2018, most of the media in this country regarded john bolton as a dangerous fanatic. Strong advocate of a muscular u. S. Foreign policy, the former ambassador to the United Nations and President Trumps National Security adviser was deannounced widely as a threat to peace and stability. Well, that was then. Now, of course, to much of the media hes catnip because of a tellall that has some unflattering things to say about President Trump, most notably the president put his own interests ahead of the countrys e when dealing with foreign leaders. Youll recall that mr. Bolton quit or was fired ten months later in september of last year to the usual farewell chorus of angry and dismissive tweets from the president. Now, there are at least two lessons here. For conservatives, if you ever want to get any favorable treatment for the media, you need to serve in a Republican Administration and dump on its afterwards. It happens again and again. But theres a lesson for the president. His unfailing tendency to kick people out the door is selfharming. The list long but not as long as their memories or the patience of a media crowd eager to strike at an embattled president. At a time when mr. Trump needs friends, simply piling up enemies. Ill be back next week right here on the wall street journal at large. Thank you for joining us, and to all of the fathers occupant there, have a very happy out there, have a very happy fathers day. Jack welcome to barrons round table where we get behind the headlines, im jack otter. We begin with what we think are the three most important things investors should be thinking about right now.
