The warning linking to Fact Checkers at leftwing, fake news organizations if you can imagine this, cnn, the Washington Post who say the president s claims are false. So we have fake news claims about the president s assertions on twitter. Twitter, however, chose not to disclose that it is an active and premier partner, excuse me, of vote early day 2020. Its an organization, an Advocacy Group pushing early voting thats right, exact ily what the president opposed and vote by mail. President trump is now accusing twitter of election interference and stifling free speech. His own. Imagine, interfering with the president s free speech rights. Twitter has now shown, he tweets, that everything weve been saying about them and their other compatriots is correct. Big action to follow. Big action was taken today by the Trump Administration against the communist Chinese Party. Secretary of state pompeo notifying congress that hong kong is no longer i autonomous and no longer warrants special treatment under u. S. Law. If beijing was deemed to be enroaching on autonomy encroaching, they had a slate of tools including sanctions, penalties and revoking visas. Well, theres a whole menu of potential things that he could do, and im sure theyre working right now on exactly how to refine the thinking and come up with something thats an appropriate response. Gordon, lets start with listening to wilbur ross, the secretary of commerce, talk rather gently a around the answer which is seemingly that the United States has very little it can do about hong kong. Your thoughts. We have a lot we can do about hong kong. And its not just revocking the sanctions revoking the sanction waivers and the tariff waivers, i think we should look at hong kong in the context of china, of course. Its across the board. So our response should be across the board. And, of course, our response on hong kong will be part of that. So we should be looking at trade prohibitions, investment prohibitions, all the rest of this. Lou okay. All the rest of this, im i dont still understand what action we can take that will change the outcome in Hong Kong Based on what you talked about as broad options. Or what are they . What specificity . What is the penalty that would be exacted on china . Well, youre right that we cant stop the passage of the article or 23 National Security legislation, but, you know, we have all sorts of tools to get u. S. Companies out of china. So first, since the president can use his broad authorities under the International Emergencies economic powers act of 1977, and that means that he could force companies effectively off chinese soil, and we could stop investment into china. Also he could get Companies Like google to end their partnerships with basically the Chinese Military on things like artificial intelligence. Lou the question becomes 100,000 americans killed by the virus that originated in wuhan, hubei province, china, and president xi chose not to warn anyone in the world of the deadly contagion that they had unleashed. What why would we be waiting to tell our companies to get out . Why would we be waiting to say this is an outrage against america and our National Interest . Why would we not have already done so . Yeah, we should have lou because that is a greater crime unfortunately, im saying to you, gordon, that is a greater crime against america than what is being done in hong kong. As outrageous as it is. Well, youre absolutely right, lou, and we should be doing something immediately. And it was worse than xi jinping not saying anything about humantohuman transmissibility. For a period of about five weeks, the chinese leaders actually deliberately lied about the contagiousness of this disease. And at the same time, they pressured countries to accept arrivals from china, not to impose those quarantines and restrictions. And you put those two actions lou the [inaudible] yeah. You put those lou to put a finer point of it, what were really saying is the Chinese Government sent their nationals who were sick is and had been likely contaminated on International Flight as they were shutting down domestic flights within china. The evidence speaks for itself. The decisions speak for themselves. It was an outrage against the world. And it was measure more than just the mass world wide killing that President Trump talked about, it actually is akin to murder. So we have 100,000 americans dead, and we cannot forget this. And, by the way, lou, weve got to deter chinese leaders from doing this again because this is not the last pathogen thats going to be generated on chinese soil. Virologists actually this last week said theres going to be more of these outbreaks which means weve got to make sure that we protect ourselves. And because chinese communism is unreform bl, the only way to protect ourselves is to reduce our exposure to china which means no trade, no investment, no tech partnerships, no nothing. Lou and do you believe that the Trump Administration is responding proportionally and correctly in this crisis . I think the Trump Administration is moving as fast as popular opinion will let it. He is, arguably, the greatest president in our history, and and youre telling me that hes waiting on popular opinion . To make decisions about National Security and the National Interest . How many stories have been out there that basically call out this is supposedly from the new york timeses, Washington Post supposedly trustworthy news sources, right . President trump, unlike a lot of other president s, he makes the decisions himself. He doesnt just pick option one, two or three that are sort of spoon fed him by the bureaucracy. Is so i think now hes got the right people in the right places, and i do think that American Foreign policy and National Security policy will really quickly be able to implement President Trumps objectives. Lou give us your sense though the what is being projected from the white house right now. Because there is an incredible, i think an unprecedented number of crises that are contemporaneous, whether it is the wuhan virus, whether it is an intense disinformation and Propaganda Campaign by one of the principal powers of the world, and that is china. At the same time, taking over hong kong because thats what it is, we all know it, and we all might as well use plain english when we say it. And there is here president that needs as much counsel, as much help and support as he possibly can get. We are not necessarily hearing that there is some sort of a perfect equivalency between taking the rights away from the citizens of hong kong and the loss of 100,000 american lives. But were not hearing that there will be a reckoning and an accounting and retribution for killing americans consciously and doing so with absolute impunity. You know, one of the things i did talk to Robert Obrien about today was china. And he said that watch in the next in the coming days, days and coming weeks that theyre starting to roll out a policy, a comprehensive policy of dealing with china. Just today secretary of state pompeo designated hong kong as no longer an independent country, so it has economic effects and trading effects and Financial Investment effects on hong kong which will hurt china. The second thing though is but i think President Trump unlike the past two president s, unlike the entire washington establishment who for 20 years put chinas interests first and americas interests second and in promoting chinas interests it was not at the the expense of americas interests. I think President Trump has changed the direction of American Foreign policy. Hes standing tough and standing tall against china. He did from the beginning, and i think that the coronavirus has really, it really is wakeup call. I mean, not to President Trump. He already knew there was a problem lou you call it a coronavirus. The president called it the that virus. China virus. He called it the wuhan virus. And even the chinese called it the wuhan virus, but we just heard you say coronavirus [laughter] and we havent heard the president use the expression china virus. Whether its ebola, whether its you name the virus, theyre nearly all named for places. But suddenly its politically un incorrect to call this wuhan virus. I am tired, i am tired of thought control in the form of correct language. This is what it is, and americans have been plain spoken, no one more plain spoken that this president. It disturbs me to see any retreat from that vivid and straightforward expression on the part of the white house. Well, you know, i think that youve got a point in the sense of what are we calling it because words do matter. But when i look at what President Trump is doing, i think that the deeds that hes doing are really significant. You know, in washington everybody says everything. The president not threatening to veto it, but calling on House Republicans not to support it, but he didnt make a position known when you originally voted on the bill. Give us some insight here. Well, heres whats happened, and good to be with you, lou. Heres what happened the last two months. Back when this first passed in march, since that time look at what weve learned. How they set up Michael Flynn, with weve got these transcripts that rick grenell got released that show when the whole trumprussia investigation started, there was no basis for the investigation. Clapper knew, brennan knew, comey knew there was nothing there. All that has transpired since then. And more importantly, we have the memorandum from Inspector General horowitz who was looking broadly at the fisa now. First he looked at a what they did to carter page, now hes looking broadly at the fisa s if he put out a memorandum on march 30th which said the 29 cases hes looked at, every single one, every single one had major problems. Four of them didnt even have the file where you keep the main evidence that is the supporting evidence documentation for what you then take to the fisa court. So 29 american citizens who were spied on, every single one had problems. The president s is simply saying, look, were not doing it. God bless the president. This is a good product weve got working, but it can get better, and thats what the president wants to see happen. Lou i will second your god bless for this president because of what he has enduredded, all that hes done for the country and then have to is ask the repalins to stop more of the republican to stop more of the madness. I dont understand the madness of the Justice Department, the negative effect of the legislative changes on the departments a ability to spy. Well, look at what the president tweeted just a few hours ago. He said there should be no warrantless searches on american citizens, and amen to that as well. Hes lived through it. Mr. Horowitz has given us the evidence and done the investigations that showed just how bad it is. Like the president said, lets get to the bottom of all this before we reauthorize the program that was abused by jim comeys fbi and the Intelligence Community in the Obama Administration. Lou, think about this six people in the Treasury Department were unmasking Michael Flynns name. In the Treasury Department, six different people. Holy cow, what was going on in those last several weeks of the Obama Administration . Were now beginning to understand how determined they were to go after this president , to cover up their scheme that they had back in their administration.
