Looking at rebounds in futures this morning. 60, 70point gain as investors brace for another week of volatility, coronavirus are confirmed around the world and here in the United States. Last week major market gauges move intoed corruption territory since report close, the biggest loser the dow industrials more than 12 . Joining the conversation pollster maslansky partners author of persuasion, lee carter, New York PostEditorial Board member Kelly Torrence and pwc partner mitch roschelle, welcome one and all, mitch, is it good news or a good sign that we at least have some positive markets on the stock futures this morning because again pmi numbers just out of china and government number out late last week were dismal . Dismal. The government number was really bad. 50 is the benchmark and they were in the 30s, thats bad news. Last night i think the dow futures were down like 800 points and came positive. The treasury, 10year treasury got close to 1. The worry trade is still going on. People are buying bonds. Looks like the fed my intervene and coordinate whatever they do to stimulate our economy with other Central Banks around the world and thats whats got markets a little bit more joyous at this point. Dagen would that help . This is a supply shock, a supply in the economy needs to function need to disappear, at least whats coming out of china. Its also a massive shutdown, not just factories in china, tourism that is shut down, cruise lines arent running, we have massive shutdown in massive place of employment and that has a long Ripple Effect than just the fact that the supply chain is off and you cant get a part for car. I think there could be a longer term, absence stimulus from Central Banks, i dont know how you fix the problem. I think the Central Banks will keep throwing money at the problem and see if they can make it better. Dagen maria talk today Vice President mike pence this week about more testing kits for the coronavirus that are being urgently distributed across the u. S. This was at sunday morning futures that maria sat with the Vice President. Here is what he said about the efforts for the vaccine. Maria mr. President , this is about a vaccine and its a promising antiviral or a vaccine is developed. Lets say it needs to pass government muster, are you willing to clear the pathways, the regulatory pathways of the fda to get needed antivirals or vaccines to the American People. Dr. Fauci made us aware a couple of days ago that because of the expedited process that the fda has approved we are actually going to be able to go to Clinical Trials in 6 weeks on a vaccine for the coronavirus. As dr. Fauci said thats utterly unprecedented. Now, i want your viewers to know that a vaccine will go through the process and will likely not be available for this season, but we are working very earnestly with multiple providers and multiple researchers to develop the vaccine. Dagen kelly, the administration clearly out to be front and center communicating with the American People. They are, and i think they are doing a pretty good job of it. I think the real message here is dont panic. They could do a little bit better by going into numbers, for example, okay, we are looking at sars, seems to be the closest parallel here. Coronavirus has infected more than 10 times the numbers that sars did but the death rate is much lower, so sars infected 8,000 people, but only 774 deaths. We have gotten 80,000 with coronavirus. Death numbers only about 2600, much lower fatality rate but i think whats most important here is that china counts for 97 of coronavirus cases with sars just had 66 of cases andings this why we are seeing ten times more people traveling from china. I think the panic needs to come down a little bit. Dagen you dont talk about death. Thats the good news that mortality is 10 for sars and around 2 for the coronavirus. What do you think that they could improve upon . I do believe they should be doing helping contextualize a lot of this. Right now a lot of panic, a lot of fear. A lot of misplace here frankly. A lot of people trying to understand what is the difference between this and the flu. Should they be comparing it to sars or the flu. I think right now we need to acknowledge the people that are really scared. People are making very, very impulsive decisions as as a result of it and thats not really i feel like people are being dismissed as far as their concerns are and the context isnt there. I think that this is something that we are we had a doctor dr. Saphier on two weeks ago, look, its going to get a lot worse than it gets better. This is the path that things take and thats why we need to be understanding so that when we see things and overreacting, we are not. Dagen two Democratic Candidates dropping out days before super tuesday, major Pete Buttigieg and tom steyer ending president ial bid after Vice President joe biden scored massive victory in South Carolina. Raised 46 and a half Million Dollars in february, making the largest sum of any democratic candidate so far in the cycle. Lee, what do you make of this, because again this was a resounding victory for joe biden that Bernie Sanders didnt even get the percentage of the vote he did in 2016 under Hillary Clinton. He was several Percentage Points below that and it was turnout among older voters in South Carolina that sealed it for joe biden. I think that how wrong the polls were in South Carolina is very telling about what is happening right now. We know well, 48 of voters have not yet made up their mind on who they are going to vote for. It was last 48 hours of the election. Thats what we will see and so every moment will be really, really important going into super tuesday and people are very changeable. Endorsements are going to matter, behaviors, gaffes, things this are happening in this moment of time will have big impact and mayor pete did the right thing because he didnt have a path to victory and if he didnt want Bernie Sanders to be candidate, it was the right thing to do. Dagen the selling point on Bernie Sanders, he will get the young vote out, well, it was 70 71 electorate over 45. Higher than 2016 and joe biden, thats who they came out and voted for. We are just Getting Started this morning, marias sitdown with Vice President mike pence talking about efforts to curve coronavirus. The countdown to super tuesday, thinning democratic field before biggest election day so far in the cycle. Plus introducing you to young entrepreneur changing the way we shop. Coming up peace deal road block, signing u. S. Taliban agreement. Plus deep freeze, freezing temperatures turning parts of up state new york into a community of igloos, much more ahead. Stay with us. Trulicity isnt for people with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Dont take trulicity if youre allergic to it, you or your family have medullary thyroid cancer, or have multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2. Stop trulicity and call your doctor right away if you have an allergic reaction, a lump or swelling in your neck, or severe stomach pain. Serious side effects may include pancreatitis. Taking trulicity with a sulfonylurea or insulin increases low blood sugar risk. Side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, belly pain, and decreased appetite, which lead to dehydration and may worsen kidney problems. I have it within me to lower my a1c. Dagen welcome back, we are taking a look at markets, futures are all over the place, from green to red on the dow and s p futures just in the last 15 minutes after a rough wining with 3 major market gauges sinking on coronavirus fears as more cases are reported. S p 500 during weakest decline. Whats next . I wish i knew, i wouldnt be up so early n. The short run somebody is looking for coordinated Central Bank Action and Interest Rates are substantially lower, 10year bond thats going to european territory. 1 . People are talking negatives, thats what happens to most major economies. We are getting the benefit of low Interest Rates thats why i dont think low Interest Rates will solve the problem. I think we will need fiscal stimulus coordinated and a lot of countries like germany thats running balanced budgets now that can afford to spend money, they can borrow negative rates and counter the losses that companies will take with these disruptions if they continue and this doesnt rebound quickly. Dagen would fiscal stimulus in the United States come in the form of tax cuts, do you think . If it does it wont help much. This is why no one knows where this is going. Who is has borrowed a lot of money and isnt going to be able to make the payments because businesses shut down for a month or 3 months, on top of the list energyrelated companies specifically mlps for high yields. Very leverage and theyre not moving fuel because people arent traveling, arent in cars, firing up airconditioners at offices, they are not going to make the debt payments and theyll be defaults and we dont know who owns all the debt, not just individual investors, banks, hedge funds and thats so the fear who is going to who is going to go basically if this continues and how bad does that get and thats where it becomes sort of vaguely like 2008 when you had mortgage defaults, this would be more of a corporate default situation but no one really knows how bad they can go. On the other hand, this is going to be another buying opportunity. Im looking closely if investors are starting to move money into the funds that are down a lot in the last week but a little early to know whats going on. I think theres a lot of panic and a lot of money actually going to bond funds which is one of the reasons Interest Rates are so low. Is that money going to panic if theres default that come up. A lot of money that came in the last year than stock funds. No one really knows. Thats what the fears are about. The unknown. Real quickly, the number one question i got over the weekend from everybody i spoke to is do i buy, what do you tell an investor right now about whether or not its time to jump in or the night still falling and its not good to grab it . You know, i dont know how far the night falls but if i have cash building up i start to trade and im buying, but im not going to aggressive allocation, so if they were third cash, i will put that in but im slowly going to stocks, foreign stocks now because i think the u. S. Dollar can weaken the situation. The risk reducing things that you would own, government bonds, people trying low volatility. Those havent been working at all. If rates go below 1 you are not going to get new offsetting game. Take money out of the stock market and that could lead to bigger sales, personally im moving foreign stocks, countries that have a lot of room to do fiscal stimulus like germany and china. Bereave believe it or not, chinese stocks, doesnt make any sense, we are the ones riding so high with higher valuations, the strongest economy, the best economy that we in some ways have more to go down than some economies do but theres no safe way to do it and i have to say whether it was gold or bonds are not going to lower your downside, you really have to be able to tolerate the losses but also opportunities. You have seen well over 5 dividend yields in categories. Energy etfs, they will probably not going to go broke. You dont want to get too aggressive. Dagen jonas, thank you, maxfair. Com. Im a candidate too for the next 3 days. [laughter] back off buttigieg, the whole moderate from the midwest is mine, stay out of my center lane. Im from minnesota so i will cut you in line at target, son. [laughter] dagen lee, these sketches on snl actually make the candidates look more appealing. The funny thing about comedy in this is gets at what we think about the candidates. You get that sort of campiness from Amy Klobuchar and the end for mayor pete and you get Bernie Sanders, Bernie Sanders cant be anybody but him now and you watch him in debate. Hes linked with larry david. Theres just something about the comedy in this that is tapping into what we already know. Its similar to what donald trump does with nicknames, we tap into what we are already thinking. They could have been harsher on Amy Klobuchar. There was not a lot of personality. Have her through something at somebody who works for her. That would get to what everybody is thinking about her. Eat salad with a comb. Im waiting for larry david to have him on enthusiasm. Dagen there was a musical number about laguardia. It was brilliant. The airport or the mayor . The airport. Snl doesnt really, they are nice to candidates. They make fun a little bit, but to your point they are not that hard on them. No, they are not. We talked about them earlier, in 2016, what people thought what they did to Hillary Clinton actually hurt her. Theyve taken a lot easier on candidates knowing that they have somewhat of a responsibility here. Way that they portrayed Elizabeth Warren is pretty friendly concerning what they could do. Youre talking what about they have done with Amy Klobuchar, is friendly and not necessarily what they do to the president and the republicans. You have to look at it. Dagen community of igloos and wrapping the gavel one last time. On your fifth day youre not as smart as i am. Dagen let me do it for you. Let me do it for you. Thats judge judy. Investors are asking the question, its up a little bit right now but whether we go to negative territory on bond yields. Last year we saw 3 market gauges move to correction territory, dow, nasdaq and s p suffering worst week since the financial crisis of 2008. Checking on the Global Market action, we have some selling in europe to tell you about, losses across the board there. Pmi out earlier coming at 49. 2 for february, that was up from januarys reading of 47. 9. In asia overnight green across the board. The index is 40. 3 reading for february was the lowers since the survey started in april 2004. And Hong Kong Retail sales in january have fallen more than 21 year over year, 12 straight months of decline and the addition of the coronavirus could lead to even worse number for february. The new peace deal between taliban and the United States hitting its first road block. Cheryl casone has the details, cheryl. One day said its obviously completely dark in my home right now. Crazy pictures. Dagen thank you, cheryl. A newborn diagnosed with coronavirus. The baby was born to a woman who tested positive for the virus. Case raising more concerns about the spread to have highly conning dayous illness. Joining us now family physician Rowen University associate professor dr. Jen. Its not surprising. We have known that this was going to increase the coronavirus. We have been told over and over. Thats exactly what we are seeing. We know that in terms of this particular report with the infant thats not entirely typical. Corona fie are you sure thus far has been affecting those who are older, those with underlying medical conditions the most and hitting them the hardest, so we havent seen it thank goodness a lot in children. But in terms of what we are seeing in the states, the increase in cases, thats what we expect to see. I keep saying that sars, fatality i heard the numbers. 10 times more people with coronavirus and fatality is only around 2. People think its lower because there may milder case that is people arent noticing. Thats exactly right. Theres a lot that we dont know and its a great point, how we put this in perspective. I think the mortality rate is probably influx because of a lot of cases we probably dont know about and youre right, i expect they are mild cases and we think theres been mild cases that have been happening. Putting in perspective, one thing is the flu. We have to mention the flu because thats something that we know kills tens of thousands of americans. Do we need to be concerned, i would say we need to be alert, we need to be awake, aware. Concern is probably appropriate but panic is not. We know that most cases of coronavirus are going to be mild to moderate. Most cases are not severe. We have to keep this in perspective. I think thats a really important thing and preventive measures is what we need to focus on. Dagen there are two deaths in the United States, at least 80 cases. Thats right. Dagen why is this a gamechanger . Its a gamechanger because as i mentioned before its kind of proving exactly what we suspected that cases would increase. I dont suspect that this is going to die down any time soon. I think we will see more cases and i hope we dont see more deaths but thats truly a possibility. In my mind what we need to be focusing on is oh, wow, im so surprised because we were told that this was likely going to happen by the cdc. What we need to be focusing on now how do we contain as much as possible, how do we treat the people who are ill and prevent others from getting ill. Go ahead. Im just curious, the expectation is so important here, when things are going to get worse before they get better, we are doing all the things to keep it contained, what should people expect overall, how much should we expect increase, what kind of things should we expect to see . Are there other kinds of situation that is we have been through before . Thats a good question. Youre basically saying, so what comes next . Partly we dont entirely know and i think one of the big variables with that, we are starting to think that there probably have been other cases happening in the United States and we just didnt know it. Thats a big factor that we cant exactly predict how its going to go because we dont know how many cases have been out there that we have not been aware of. Now, to that end there are changes happening on the medical side that i think are very important. You know, it was discussing the last couple of days, we have 75,000 test kits that have been released. We are hoping to get more test kits. Thats going to help. We need to be able to diagnosis this to know how many cases we have and doctors, we need to understand how we are treating the illness and the cdc broaden the criteria for which doctors can now test for it. So to answer your question, we dont exactly know how bad this is going to get but every day changes are being made that will hopefully give us a better idea about this even as we go forward. Dagen u. S. Surgeon general had to put out a tweet over the weekend saying seriously, people, stop buying masks all caps, they are not effective in preventing general public from catching coronavirus but if Healthcare Providers cant get them to care for sick patients it puts them and our communities at risk. How about the lines in cosco in general hoarding stuff. Hoarding hand sanitize consider r. What im trying to understand what do symptoms look like, if youre a patient and you have what could be common cold or normal flu. Did the corona symptoms manifest differently and we have test kits people with common cold will be running to the hospital and get tested . Thats right. We dont want that. Im glad that you mentioned the face mask. I need to say it, hopefully every show is saying stop buying face mask. If you are sick it may help to protect others. Fever and shortness of breath and could cough. I have 3 symptoms right now. [laughter] you might be okay for having a face mask because youre not feeling well. But the idea that they do overlap with other symptoms. The thing would be if youre at higher risk. If you recently traveled, of course, we now think theres Community Spread in this country which means we dont always know where the cases come from. Here is my advice, if you have questions about your symptoms, dont run to the er or run to your doctors waiting room and spreading all that stuff. You can call. Dagen do teleconference, mobile medical care through your private insurance company. Call your medical doctor like me, mrs. Jones, i call you back and i will give you guidance of where you need to go. Dagen good to see you. My building stopped giving out dog treats to peoples dogs. Pets do not spread coronavirus that way. We will keep an eye on trading as we get closer to the opening bell. Meantime watching the candidates, 2020 dropouts, tom steyer as well as iowa caucus winner Pete Buttigieg leaving the president ial race on sunday this after former Vice President joe biden dominated the competition in South Carolinas primary on saturday taking 47 of the vote. Buttigieg called for unity in his concession speech last night. I will no longer seek to be the 2020 democratic nominee for president , but i will do everything in my power to ensure that we have a new democratic president come january. [cheers and applause] dagen joining me now Senior Editor at the federalist chris bedford. Chris, with buttigieg dropping out and tom steyer. Tom was only competing in South Carolina but with buttigieg making way for his supporters to maybe get behind joe biden, does that help . It does. This is one of the things that joe bidens campaign could have really hoped for with the South Carolina hail marys, this was way more impressive than that. Pushes other candidates in the moderate lane out and get some momentum going into tomorrow to super tuesday. He got that. I was surprised that mayor pete didnt drop an endorsement in his speech. I thought last night would have been a Good Opportunity for him to say, im going to throw my support behind joe biden, maybe he wants to wait and see. Chris, Kelly Torrence here. What do you think people like Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar are still in . Elizabeth warren has 8. If he doesnt see a way to win i heard about going to a brokered convention. Do you think she has any say as a queen maker . Its possible that kind of becomes the selffulfilling prophesy the brokered convention thing where candidates think they may have a chance to be the nominee even though they have votes, maybe they will stick with it. However, what would convince them to drop out would be super tuesday. If Elizabeth Warren loses in her home state of massachusetts, thats really embarrassing and i was also worried if she was going to try to avoid the embarrassment by dropping out beforehand. She had big fundraisers planned in the meantime and wants to wrap it all to boston or continue to brokered. I will do suspect Amy Klobuchar will wrap up with win in her state and end of the road and through her hat to one of the other candidates. What do you think the impact of play your pete dropping out . A lot of people say its not all going to go to biden because if they were going to go to biden, they would have. Itll get split with Elizabeth Warren and others, what kind of impact do you see we will see if any . It would be split in general. It wont go to any one candidate. Some of the people will even go to Bernie Sanders, the democratic primary is not simply moderate and hardleft lane at this point, but biden getting rid of the stink of loser was a massive thing that he had on saturday and because of that he will be southern state, he will win in, texas, virginia, north carolina, alabama, arkansas, he will do pretty well and they will put him in solid place of Bernie Sanders who is still the winner and after that make mayor bloombergs to get delegates, path to the win slimmer and more likely for him to put dagen the real clear politics average in texas has Bernie Sanders up by almost 9 Percentage Points over joe biden, we have to factor any pop from South Carolina, with strength among latino voters, thats a tall for biden to pull it out in texas. The reason i think its possible because the number of polls that we have seen down there not comparable to what we have seen in early states. In addition to that, these polls have been taken over in the time where Bernie Sanders is really rising and theres concern about the democratic candidate. The only shot that biden would have to win any of the states was a big win on saturday, hes done that, but still a difficult dagen i will tell you other than Bernie Sanders being a socialist what should worry democratic voters looking at South Carolinas numbers, Bernie Sanders if he was the nominee would have to have record turnout among the young voters who he was supposed to bring out. Young voters as a percentage of the electorate, that percentage fell from 2016. It was below 30 . Older voters who solidly went for joe biden, they turned out in higher numbers than they did 4 years ago, so where is the bernie umpf for joe biden . In primary or general . I was surprise bid that. A lot of people that we saw that were at Campaign Rallies were a mix of young, they were a mix of young. A lot of white voters and South Carolina ended up being carried for the democrats or really shaped by the black vote and to your point by the older vote. Those werent the same people at the rallies but they were politically motivated and another one thing of the things that surprised me in South Carolina that was different from iowa and New Hampshire how antisocialist they were. Dagen chris, great to see you. Come back soon. We will introduce you to young entrepreneur who is changing the way we shop. Cut. Well dub it. There are two cases that have been reported down in florida so far and one of those two an adult Manatee County does not have a travel history to countries for restricted travel by the cdc. Meantime, lets talk about the efforts being taken to curb the spread of the virus. Maria sat down with the man tasked with leading the white houses efforts, Vice President mike pence. Maria joining me now is Vice President of the United States, the lead on the White House Coronavirus response team, mr. Vice president , thank you so much for joining me. Thank you, maria. Good to be with you. Maria you gave a reassuring press conference this weekend, you made some changes. Tell us why you have said the risk is low in terms of america, relative to the rest of the world. What is that based on. I think for your viewers its important to say its not its that our experts are telling us that the risk to the average american of the coronavirus remains low. And thats even in the wake of the heartbreaking news of the loss of an American Life this weekend and our hearts and our prayers go out to him and his family and our prayers are also there for those that are still seriously ill. But the reality is that thanks to the decisive leadership of President Trump in january, where he suspended all travel from china, established a quarantining effort for americans that would be returning to this country, we believe that were in a much better place today than we would have been otherwise. That being said, as the president made clear yesterday, there will be more cases but were working very closely with state and local Health Officials. Were surging resources. Were providing testing kits and the good news is, despite the tragic news of this weekend of the loss of one American Life, more than half of the americans that contracted the coronavirus are actually recovering and doing quite well and so well continue to lean into this effort as ive said many times. When the president tapped me to do this on wednesday, he said its all hands on deck and we continue to build out that White House Coronavirus task force. Were bringing the very best minds in america and in the world to bear on this and well put the health and safety of the American People first. Maria let me ask you about some of the news, the Important News this weekend. You have lifted travel restrictions from parts of italy, parts of south korea, iran. How do you enforce that and make sure that those areas in fact are not carrying people who have been infected into the u. S. . What we want those countries to do is for all of their citizens coming to the United States, we want them to have a Health Screening process in place. Well be assisting them to establish that. But looking at the fact that its those particular areas in south korea and in italy where we see a rising number of cases, not countrywide in either nation, the president thought it was proper to issue the travel advisory just for those areas and to make it clear to the American People they should not travel to those areas of that country. When you have a virus spreading like this, what the experts have said in my briefings, again and again, is the most important thing is that people there dont travel unnecessarily and people dont unnecessarily travel into areas where there is an outbreak. And so the president s decision is reflective of that warning the American People that there are areas of italy and south korea that they should not travel and then well work closely with italy to make sure were screening and south korea to make sure were screening people coming our way. Maria let me ask you about the testing. Some of these issues revolve around the testing. Why are we just beginning to ramp up testing now, one andahalf, two months into this . I mean, south korea, for example, tested 15,000 people yesterday and i understand that the fda sent testing kits to the 50 states and then called them back and said well, wait a minute, there are three parts to this test but one of those parts is actually defective. So dont do the testing. Wait on the testing. I mean, is that just incompetence on the part of the fda . Well, what i can tell you is that in my conversations with governors, and ive spoken to all of the governors that have been handling people coming back into our country, as americans have returned from china, in particular, is that we believe we are in the process of resolving the issues about testing kits. In fact as the director of the fda announced yesterday, we have now approved a new arrangement so that states can conduct these tests on their own. But as we speak, literally more than 15,000 kits are going out to the relevant areas and well soon be spending another 50,000 that are going to be made commercially available out to states. So were leaning into this. Were making sure that our states have the resources, because one of the things i learned, not so much as Vice President but when i was a governor was the absolute vital role that state and local governments and Health Officials play and my commitment to all the governors that ive spoken to on behalf of the president is that were going to work with congress, were going to work with all the agencies of the federal government to make sure that the state and local Health Officials have the resources, have the training kits, have the medical equipment and protective gear necessary to mitigate any further spread of the coronavirus. Maria did they tell you what the problem was with these testing kits, why one of those three tests of the overall kit was defective or not accurate . Well, i heard the concerns and i heard them from a couple of governors that i spoke to. But in the same conversations i was glad that i heard from those same governors that the issues had been resolved. The kits were being distributed and i have to tell you, and President Trump said this many times at the press conference yesterday, you know, im just several days into leading the white house effort on the coronavirus but i could tell you if the American People could see the professionalism that i have seen, to hear what i have heard from governors around the country about the job that hhs is doing, cdc is doing, they would be proud and they would be encouraged by the efforts of this government and the Outstanding Team the president s aseeassembled. I was actually told several of the new cases this past weekend were a result of people coming in and the test was being properly administered. So what were doing is expanding the testing framework to ensure that people that need aid and need the support are properly diagnosed and are treated. Maria should we say, well, they knew this was coming, there are thousands, maybe tens of thousands of cases now in the United States but were testing and the administration expected this . Well, we know that there will be many more cases. But we continue to remain hopeful that because of the vigilance of our local Health Officials, because of the efforts of state leaders and cd c h hs, that well be able to mitigate the spread of that but were going to continue to make the Information Available to the American People and its also just as important that our Healthcare Providers, our doctors and our nurses and those practitioners that are coming alongside people that present at a hospital with a respiratory illness have protection. Were going to make sure our patients are taken care of and most people that contract the coronavirus will recover, as drt at risk, like the man who sadly passed away this weekend, oftentimes have other conditions that theyre dealing with but for the average healthy american, once we diagnose them, well be able to treat them and we expect that the vast majority of people that contract this will be able to recover and go back about their lives. Dagen our very special thanks to Vice President mike pence. Coming up, futures reversing cures, pointing to a triple digit loss at the open. Were watching what is driving these markets. Com howling wind howling wind dagen 2020 lets look at it, two Democratic Candidates dropping out days before super tuesday. Former mayor Pete Buttigieg and tom steyer officially ending their president ial bids, this comes after former Vice President joe biden scored a massive victory in South Carolinas democratic primary. Bernie sanders fell nearly 20 points behind in the palmetto state, his Campaign Announced it had raised 46. 5 million in february, making it the largest monthly sum any democratic candidate has raised so far this cycle. Just a correction there. Sanders got less than 20 of the vote. Joe biden got close to 50. So based on my back of the envelope, thats almost 30 points behind, back with me, lee carter, Kelly Torrance, mitch roschelle. Sanders did worse this goround in terms of percentages than he be in 2016. He had a lower vote total there. But lee, what does this mean in the coming states for joe biden . Its hard to know exactly what it means because South Carolina is its own state. We saw that biden did not do well in New Hampshire, he did not do well in iowa. The south is where hes expecting to do well. I dont think that a lot is going to change based on this. I think it shows that his campaign is not dead. It shows that he is in the running. I think when you look at all of the polling for super tuesday, its really between sanders and biden at the end of the day. There are some states where klobuchar has a path, theres a path maybe for warren in massachusetts, she better hope. It isnt looking great for her. Were looking at that narrowing down. Is mayor pete going to help biden . Were not sure where thats going to go. A lot of states are up for grabs. My big question is what is bloomberg doing, when you look at the polling for super tuesday what is the path for him to do anything. How is he spending so much money and still not getting anywhere . Dagen i listened to joe bidens victory speech on saturday. He said the country wants results, not the promise of a revolution. He also talked about him in a healing context, compared to President Trump. When you talk about the promise over revolution, that is straight from things that president barack obama has said about we dont need a circular firing squad and we dont need a revolution, just pointing that out. Thats a very good point, dagen. Apparently barack obama called joe biden to congratulate him on the South Carolina victory but still has not endorsed a candidate which i think really says something. If youre not even going to endorse your former Vice President when he is struggling to win against someone who most people do not think will beat President Trump and think hell be a terrible president if he does. Dagen quick, quick. The field has narrowed. So theres a time its going to be right after super tuesday for barack obama to weigh in. Dagen hes not doing anything until the convention, thats my prediction. Coming up, keeping an eye on oil amid the coronavirus crisis, right now off recent highs, 45 a the cost of crude. Dagen oil prices reversing some losses from last week but prices are off their highs, this morning, 45. 15 a barrel. The coronavirus threat weighing on global growth. The oecd saying it will decline in the first quarter. Joining me now from the cme group, senior analyst, fox business contributor phil flynn. Harks phil. Tell me what you expect to happen to the cost of crude in the coming weeks. You know, i think at some point were going to start to move higher and look beyond this. Make no mistake about it, what weve gone through is some of the most significant demand disruption we may have seen in our lifetime. The coronavirus has shut down cities. People are not going to travel. And its taken a major hit to demand. Were seeing that. Were seeing the impact on growth. I think at the end of the day, well seek a level where well start to see some demand come in and interestingly enough, as bad as the market looks right now, we are seeing countries like china step in and start to buy. That shows me that they believe that theres life beyond the coronavirus and at some point demand will start to stabilize. Phil, good morning. Mitch. Quick question for you. What does this do to Domestic Production we have in the shale industry . Do they just stop producing right now because the demand is just so weak . Well, you know, they dont do it together but its going to hurt them economically. And the problem, mitch, is that so many of these producers cant stop producing. They need to have some type of revenue. What generally happens is they pump at a loss. They continue pumping and it makes their financial situation worse. So its very possible well see another wave of bankruptcies in the shale space. Now, a lot of these guys are looking to opec. Opec to save the day. Theres talk overnight that opec is going to cut production, maybe by a Million Barrels a day, but russia is still playing hard to get on this. Theyre saying, listen, we didnt get a proposal from opec for a Million Barrels. Were still discussing the 600,000barrel a day Production Cut that they talked about last week. Now theyre throwing a million. Theyre not ready to do anything and if they dont i think the markets going to have a hard time bottoming. Dagen really quickly, phil. How long can the shale producers pump at a loss before they go bankrupt, like in months . I think its a matter of months at this time. Some of them are so far stretched right now, its only a matter of time that well see a wave of bankruptcies if the market doesnt bounce back quickly. Dagen good to see you. Thank you for that. Coming up, the search for lori vallows children taking an unexpected turn thanks to a suspicious email. We break it down. Then ban on bags, new york the latest state to ban plastic bags everywhere. Paper bags, one that your groceries dont fit in, will cost you five cents. Plus, abbey road for a new generation, the iconic beatles cover recreated. Do you recognize anyone . Thats next. The trading overnight has been the low of 513 points, a high of 636 points. The 10 year treasury yield touching a record low overnight, 1. 03 . Right now, its up a little bit, so the buying is pulling back a tad but nevertheless we are looking at record lows on the 10 year treasury during regular trading on the yield there. Last week we saw all three major market gauges move into correction territory. The dow, nasdaq and s p 500 all suffering their worst week since the height of the financial crisis in october 2008. Looking at markets in europe, you take a look at the screen there, losses across the board. The eurozone pmi, the purchasing manufacturers index out this morning showed an uptick there, thats not helped the situation, the selling there. In asia overnight, however, it was green across the board despite chinas pmi, that manufacturing gauge, getting slammed by the coronavirus. The private measure of that released on monday, it hit a record low in february. Meantime, a judge makes a ruling about a top immigration official after questions are raised about how he was appointed. Cheryl casone has the details. Cheryl thats right, dagen. A federal judge ruled yesterday that Ken Cuccinelli should not have been tapped to be the u. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services director without senate approval. The judge added that the move violated the federal vacancies reform act and some of his decisions could be voided, thats cuccinellis decisions. Prince harry helping recreate an iconic photo for a good cause. Harry crossing abbey road, with jon bon jovi, to celebrate the invictus games, and they recorded a version of the song, unbroken, for the games at the legendary studio that of course, dagen, the beatles made famous. At the same time, you get punched to the pace, sent to the emergency room and the person who hit you doesnt go to jail. Its misplaced priority. Nothing like walking down the street with your toilet paper under one arm and Hygiene Products under the other for the whole world none of these stores were prepared for it, by the way. Cheryl yesterday was kind of a nightmare. Youre right. Dagen again, nightmare. Thank you, cheryl. We focus on the coronavirus, the fear spreading across the nation after a second person in ashton state has died. Ten states have confirmed cases. In florida there are two cases and its unknown how one of those patients contracted the virus. Joining us now nyu Health Pediatric and adult Infectious Disease specialist, dr. Vanessa rabba. Dr. Rab ba, good to see you. What do you make of the spread in the United States . Put it in perspective. I think the spread is everything we anticipated based off the data thats been coming out so far. We know people can have very mild symptoms or can get infected with the virus and not have symptoms at all. Weve seen it essentially on every continent in the world. We expect it to be in the United States and were seeing in line what we expected. Is there any pattern to the way its manifesting itself in the states . I know its early, with some of the other countries excluding china in terms of how its spreading in communities . Were seeing a lot of cases in Major Urban Centers which makes sense, thats where testing is available, thats where most people are. We are seeing some cases that, again, havent been linked to travel. But that is something that when we have mild disease or asymptomatic infection that we can see and thats certainly something we anticipate. If you could help us context wallize this. Theres a lot of panic out there, people are comparing it to sars, comparing it to the flu. You talked during the break, percentage of population in china. How do you help us get perspective on why we shouldnt be panicking. China has had about 80,000 cases. There are 1. 3 billion People Living in china. Even in the most affected city its less than 1 of the population thats infected so 99 out of 100 people you meet in that city dont have coronavirus. Dagen the measures that china has taken trying to contain it with these massive quarantines, thats not really something that the u. S. Would do, is it . Its nothing that again, people talk about sars, oh, the mortality rate of sars is 10 , with the coronavirus its closer to 2 but no one in the United States died from sars. To compare it to that, its not something that people really can relate to, if you will. I think to relate to it in the United States, the thing that we see the most of this year is flu and we have already seen over 32 million cases of flu. Over 18,000 deaths. And that includes 125 deaths in children from flu this season alone. Dagen really quickly, the reason that people get freaked out about this for lack of a better word is because it is new. And i think thats the reaction among the medical community. Dr. Fauci said that himself he said i know we always put up the number of deaths from the standard flu in this country but this is a novel virus and with the flu we have, what, four standard antivirals even if you dont get the vaccine, four standard antivirals you can take and theres nothing you can take for the coronavirus at this point, not yet. I know the gilead drug is tested on patients in nebraska. With that study theyre also potentially testing other medicine as well. Theres several studies looking at a wide vai variety of medicas going on in china to say what can we use to help fight off the infection for people that get really sick. Dagen i want to ask you about this. There was a newborn diagnosed with coronavirus, according to Chinese State media, the baby was born to a woman who tested pot positive for the virus. The virus is a serious threat to children, yes or no . We havent seen that many cases among the very young, have we . We havent seen that many cases. The reports coming out in china, its 1 to 2 of cases in children, but so far although theyve seen a few severe cases, theyve seen no deaths in children less than 10 years old and most of the cases in children have been pretty mild so were not seeing as severe disease as we are in older folks or people who have other medical conditions. Dagen made a great point, people are worried because its new, its something we dont know. Im wondering, china wouldnt let the cdc in at first, this is not a country that likes to give out information to its own people let alone the international community. Now its spreading in the u. S. , does that mean we can understand it better, were more likely to get information or do you think that doesnt really help . So i think we are more likely to get information. One of the great things that china did early on was publish the full sequence of this virus. That means scientists around the world could start working on it very early on. You dont necessarily need to have the virus in the lab to start working on things like vaccines and start looking at what Antiviral Medicines might be effective therapies. Dagen the way we were originally handling testing, the testing kits turned tout be fault eye. Finally saturday the fda, food and Drug Administration said it will allow hundreds of academic hospital labs to begin testing for the virus. Is that a mistake early on do you think or is it common practice, the way we handle virus outbreaks here . I think the fda staff is great. There are a lot of scientists working on individual tests. Were not able to mass market a test in time that everybody is able to do one standard test. Now the fda is allowance once you come up with enough data and submitted it to them, before they reviewed the data, you can use the test to test patients and that will expedite testing which helps us find how many people have that and identify people early on so they can go into quarantine and not transmitting the virus the others. Dagen i think people are thankful for the depth of the medical field in this country, the academic world, doctors and professors and the pharmaceutical companies that are at the ready to begin developing and testing new drugs. I think that we are were the best on the global stage in terms of what we bring to the table in terms of the private sector. I think we have a lot of resources and right now theyre being put to good use. Dagen good to see you, dr. Rabba. Thank you so much. Take care. Please come back. Thank you. Dagen coming up, a new twist in the search for lori vallows children thanks to a suspicious email. Judge Andrew Napolitano weighs in. Were keeping an eye on futures. Weve seen wild swings all morning, 151 point loss on the dow futures, triple digit loss now but weve been back and forth between green and red. We watch. Well be back after the break. Maria this week on mornings with maria, tomorrow it is super tuesday, President Trumps democratic owe po opponents take with onethird of the country casting ballots. Wednesday, are more americans relying on their phones to stay healthy. Dr. Mike highlights the hottest fitnesfitness apps. Thursday, controversia controvee reform laws. Its all right here on mornings with maria. Dagen another bizarre twist in the case of an idaho mom and her missing children. Investigators want to question lori vallow and her husband, chad daybell, about a mysterious email sent by vallows previous husband two weeks before his death. Charles vallow said she created a fake email account using his name. He questioned lori about the fake account but she wouldnt explain. Joining us now, fox news senior judicial analyst, judge Andrew Napolitano. What do you make of this . It gets curiouser and curiouser. We have a lot of competing issues here. One is the right to raise your children as you see fit but you cant harm the children. The other is your right to remain silent. The third is shes being held in contempt because she is hiding her children or her children are gone and she cant produce them. Can the courts make you produce your children . Well, thats a novel issue, really. The courts really cant make you produce your children. Are the children still alive . All these things are happening at once. As we speak, i believe shes in hawaii, being extradited to idaho. Judges dont like to be used as part of law enforcement. But if she has violated a law by refusing to produce the children in a courtroom because theres evidence she may have harmed them, then the judges are going to do whatever they have to do. So far, the governor of idaho signed the extra dig extraditioy terse, the governor of hawaii signed extradition papers there. The first thing theyll say to her in a courtroom is you have the right to remain silent which may moot a lot of this if she doesnt explain whats going on. Are the children alive or dead and if theyre alive, where are they . One of them is nearly an adult and in some states at 17 he is an adult. Dagen the College Admissions scandal, Lori Loughlin and her husband are set to stand trial october 5th alongside six others allegedly involved in the College Bribery scam. Loughlins legal team argued that new information shows that fbi agents bullied cooperating witness rick singer into giving up his clients. That doesnt necessarily mean youre innocent. But continue, judge. Okay. So we now know that there is an email, this is a problem with fbi agents communicating with cooperating witnesses, in. Inemails, an email never dies. Theres an email which according to loughlins lawyers, the fbi told him to lie to his clients and persuade the clients, im giving you air quotes for clients, persuade the clients that in fact they were making bone fide contributions to a college rather than a bribe. Now, if the fbi told him to commit a crime in order to get somebody else to commit a crime, that is not entrapment but that is a very, very serious problem for the government. And none of the people who have pleaded guilty, which is the overwhelming majority of the defendants in this case, were aware of this email or this instruction from the fbi to this guy, singer, to commit the crimes. The fbi arrested singer a long time ago and said to him who else can you bring us. He went out and brought people in by telling them this is going to be a contribution and its really going to be a bribe but im not going to tell you that. Now we have evidence of the fact that not only did he do this but he did it at the fbis instructions. Dagen there is said to be a photo of lor Lori Loughlins daughter on a rowing machine. That is obviously absurd that they would think could pull that off. The question is, is it criminal. I have argued that its not. Its a fraud on the school but its not a federal crime. A federal judge in boston disagrees with me because these people are going to trial. Dagen because the universities take federal funds. Yes, yes. Dagen thats part of it. Theyre going to trial. Its a long time between now and october. Well see what happens. This will be a massive trial, 25 or 30 lawyers in the courtroom. Dagen thank you, judge. Great to see you. Judge Andrew Napolitano. The problem is we have seen an Immediate Reaction among companies, facing this uncertainty, the supply shock coming out of china in particular that hiring plans are being called offerings boom, overnight, called off overnight, boom. We talked about this during the break that theres a number of businesses who are already making changes to their hiring plans, putting things on hold as theyre waiting for the uncertainty to play out. Were seeing Business Travel stop, a lot of meetings called off, a lot of decisions pulled off until we get a handle on this. This is going to have a big Economic Impact beyond what were seeing, a lot of people talking about the manufacturing and supply chain, this will have a lot of impact on service businesses, a lot of impact on all businesses and its something that i think we really need to take into consideration as were looking not to be alarmist or not to panic, i think this is the way businesses are operating now. Theyre pulling back. This is a supply shock and we are a services economy, Services Mean people. If you stop hiring people, then youre really cutting off the future of your business. I think its a little bit of an overreaction and overreach at this point in time. You dont know how its going to play out. Even if there was slowing in the United States, even if we had one quarter of negative gdp growth, not enough to stop investing in your business for the future. I think thats a good point, mitch. As well, keep in mind that, yes, some industries are going to be affected but some might even be helped. Weve been talking about if people have to stay home, are more people going to knee buy tt netflix account, are more people ordering in food . Its not just everything in the economy turns into a mess. I think theres opportunities even to be had. I think there are always youre absolutely right, opportunity zones get created out of other crisis. I think businesses shouldnt overreact and i dont think investors should overreact right now. I think its really important dagen, you talked about one of these things, its an eight month cycle if we look at old dagen sars took eight months to tape. Were two months into this. If youre sourcing all of your goods from china, whether supplies you use in manufacturing in the United States or youre in goods, fully finished goods out of china, youre literally sitting around for a few more months waiting for those factories to restart. And a lot of businesses cant survive that. They just cant. Were going to talk a lot more about this coming up. The nation on high alert as the u. S. Confirms its second death tied to coronavirus. Dagen. Dagen thank you, break. Good to see you this morning. Blake berman at the white house. Joining us now georgia congressman, Committee Member earl buddy carter. What do you make of this as a a politician and as a pharmacist . Well, as a pharmacist first of all it is very concerning. Obviously ive seen outbreaks of the flu, ive seen outbreaks in nursing homes. Im a consultant pharmacist in nursing homes. Ive seen the devastation it can cause. Weve got to wash our hands, weve got to stay healthy. We have to make sure we have personal hygiene, make sure were doing the things we can do to help contain this. Dagen well, do you think that we need to restrict, say, visitation or take greater care of people coming in and out of nursing facilities, given the fact that the elderly are at the greatest risk . That is a great point. And absolutely we should do that. Listen, if youve got a cold, dont go to a nursing home. Call them on the phone. I know you want to visit with them. I know youand they want you to visit with them. But lets be smart about these kind of things listen, if youve got a cold, dont go to work. You can afford to lose a day or two. Its okay. Lets just be sensible about this and do our part. Congressman, its Kelly Torrance here. The Surgeon General as dagen mentioned earlier over the weekend tweeted seriously, people, stop buying face masks. Pointing out that really theyre best just for people who already have it, to keep from transmitting it. I mean, what should people know about what they should and should not be buying and are you seeing a lot of shortages already in things that Healthcare Professionals need . Well, there are shortages in medical devices, such as face mask and certainly thats something to be concerned about. It is true, listen, if youve got a cold, wear a face mask. If you want to wear one, thats fine. Im not sure that its going to have the effect that you think its going to have of preventing you from getting infected but at the same time, lets all just use common sense. I mean, if you cough, cough into your arm, cough and cover yourself and make sure youre not exposing other people to this. Dagen do you think we need fiscal stimulus . We talk about the federal he reserve monetary stimulus here, there and everywhere but what about fiscal stimulus out of the government. I would welcome in. I think what the Federal Reserve has said they may lower rates, thats certainly a step in the right direction. We understand how fickle the market is. We understand the fiscal effect that this has had and thats certainly important. We cant let this destroy our economy. We have one of the greatest economies weve ever experienced right now. Weve got to continue with that and not let this destroy it. Listen, the scientists are working on this. We have the greatest scientists, the greatest innovators in the United States of america. Im confident that were doing everything we can to be prepared for this. Dagen congressman, thank you for being here, congressman earl buddy carter. Coming up, amazon cutting back on its workforce, why more than 3,000 delivery drivers are facing layoff. This has been all over the place this morning, 130point loss on the dow futures. Investors are weighing coronavirus concerns against the Federal Reserve and other Central Banks with lower rates quickly and bigtime to boost stimulus efforts, meantime the organization for Economic Development says the Global Economy is likely to slow down significantly this year joining us now Global Advisor president dominic to bella. One thing feeding on itself, the market was slow to catch up to the supply and demand shock from this virus, but as a selling picks up steam, then you have corporate executives, businesses reacting to that calling off hiring plans and mergers or at least putting them on hold putting on hold large corporate investments, this is the global autonomy that is grinding to a halt. That is a scary part because of we look at this unemotionally, it is a big deal and a big problem probably wouldnt will resolve is the next three to six months. If everybody out of fear stop sending their employees out to seminars, stops traveling will go to italy, wont go to france or across the country than the hotels, cabdrivers, restaurants everything comes to a screeching halt. Its a Snowball Effect that might make a serious problem into a really Global Economic problem. But its real that the Energy Conference is canceled. Facebook developed gathering in california also cancel, this is very early on, auto suppliers they warned that with they wont be able to get parts to assemble vehicles. A lot of these are manufactured in china. Were hearing stories out of japan, south korea in the u. S. May not have enough parts to complete the cards. So shortterm, this will be a problem no doubt about it. People are doing the opposite, selling and buying bonds. Individual investors have been right all along, they were selling stocks last year, pulling money out of stock etf mutual fund and putting into fixed income and money market accounts. It looks like in terms of people who got shocked by this was the smart money, the hedge funds levering up right before this. Seven out of ten. Phone calls, is this a good time to start buying. I love it. Turning to 2020, two Democratic Candidates dropping out, former mayor Pete Buttigieg and Billionaire Tom Steyer ending their president ial bids yesterday. This comes after former Vice President joe biden scored a massive victory on saturday and South Carolina democratic primary. Despite coming in a distant second place, Bernie Sanders bringing in 46 and half Million Dollars since february making it the largest monthly sum any democratic candidate has raised the cycle. Joining me one of my favorite people walking on planet earth columnist and Fox News Contributor charles hurt, what does this mean for biden on super tuesday . I think it will give him a left, i see the real winner out of South Carolina was Bernie Sanders. You have joe biden, left for roadkill, disaster, every contest has been a disaster so far and everybody was turning to Michael Bloomberg saying this is going to be the guy that rises to challenge Bernie Sanders. Then suddenly the corpse of bidens campaign rises up and we realize we do not have once a person who is challenging Bernie Sanders but several, and if you keep the opposition to Bernie Sanders, that will help Bernie Sanders gobble up the delegates he needs to go in to the convention with a plurality or possibly punch the nomination. Pete buttigieg had three times the delegates of Elizabeth Warren, he dropped out and she does not, Amy Klobuchar has even fewer, what is keeping them in. I know we heard from Elizabeth Warrens people that theyre looking at hoping for a brokered convention. I think there is also a huge element in washington right now of people who do not like Bernie Sanders who are putting in normas pressure on Elizabeth Warren to remain in the race. As long as she stays in the racm on a spectrum she is over there closer to bernie and maybe some of the others. And they want her to siphon off some of the delegates. All it does is underscore how much the democratic establishment in washington despise Bernie Sanders and so terrified of him. If Elizabeth Warren drops out i think a lot goes to Bernie Sanders, but now mayor pete dropped out, all of our pulling in our numbers weve been crunching which are many ways dont even matter when we look at the turnout, where it is mayor pete logo. You know this better than i do, its always a doubles game to try to figure out where these people go going to places you dont really expect but certainly i would think that petes people end up going to whatever the antibernie people are but i dont even think that account. People try to make similarities between donald trump and Bernie Sanders all the time. I think the similarities are very limited. The more people in washington politics a burning is dangerous, the more democrats a screw you all go with bernie just because you said hes dangerous. We will see you soon we have a fox business alert, former chairman and ceo jack welch has died at 84 years of age, he was an icon and incredibly generous man and close to many people here at fox. None more so than maria bartiromo, he was marias mentor for many years when she worked at cnbc, our thoughts, our prayers our blessings go out to all of jacks family especially his loving devoted wife susie. It is impossible to sum up his impact, his contribution to the world of business. What he did to create ge and what the businesses today, you cannot even recognize it. But he built multiple industries, a finance company buried inside of it, Business School students will look back at jack walsh and his style of management. General electric was accompanied created by jack that jeff emil tried to dismantle what jack did and literally because he cannot manager. Jack was in an incredible spirit. In a motivating personality. As a manager in a human being, i was lucky to get to know him a little bit better in recent years. He defined corporate culture, he focused on quality and not just the manufacture of lightbulbs, these are things that exist today in business that are here because of jack walsh. The legacy he left behind where they got to go from different divisions in different areas, there is countless members of people who have been impacted by this man that did not work for ge themselves that had the impact of what he taught. When you talk about leaving the legacy across the entire Business World, you can trace all of those things back to jack welsh. People talk about the six sigma and businesses that did not even do business with ge and people who do not work with ge, its really remarkable in the Business World lost a legend. He was still working up until the very end. I follow susie his wife, is actually jack and susie on instagram and he would still have lunch and still very much in touch with the people he developed longlasting relationships over the years. Lets head over to studio b where Stuart Varney is getting ready for his show. We are talking about the death of an icon jack welsh. Yes he built General Electric, he did. He took over and filter further beyond that. He was probably the greatest ceo, the greatest executive of his generation. What a man. Sad, sad indeed to see a great man and business go. We will be dealing with is on a program today and of course were dealing with the markets all over the place because of the virus, were asking questions, how do we know what impact quarantine on a mass scale would have on americas economy, what do we know about the way people are separating out, how does that affect our economy, we are dealing with all on the show coming up 20 minutes from now. Its way to be today and many days to come when will think about jack welch and wanted to hear his opinion around the world and to give us perspective that he has gained over the decades in corporate america. But we have lost an icon and a friend, jack welch died at the age of 84. The redacted d data from anywher. D data from anywher. I put it out there with a godaddy website. Make the world you want. Fox business alert, former General Electric ceo jack welch has died at the age of 84. Getting on the phone maria bartiromo. It is such sad news, i knew that susie, his wife had put him in hospice just recently so he was in his final days but i think anything about jack, you really just have to know his legacy was all about leadership. He loved ge so much and ran ges for somebody years and so effectively, i can say honestly that jack, for me was truly a mentor and really my rabbi at cnbc for 20 years and i remember one quote that jack told me a long time ago, very, very early in my career when i was just a rising gogetter at cnbc, she said maria control or someone else will. And that struck me so much and literally, i carried that in my career, my entire career, control your own state or someone else will and i always went back to that throughout my years at cnbc, ge and even at fox knowing that whatever i did i was controlling my own fate because i knew if i did not, someone else would. And that was just one little nugget of wisdom from jack but there were so many. For jack it was all about accountability, it was you are accountable for what youre doing, the job that you do, youre accountable to yourself in life, and i learned that from him, he was so wonderful and ill never forget he allowed me too take leadership classes at cnbc so i would go and take classes and he was the only one who would allow me too take the classes. One class i took was building essential leadership skills, jack was always about the equation, we had stigma at ge and he led that which was a Leadership Program in one equation that i took away from six sigma was the equation which goes like this, soi, standard observation impact and everything i looked at and when i was talking with colleagues in talking about getting a job done i would say we have a standard for the company, the standard is excellent, what im observing is xyz and what youre doing has a real impact on me, the company, the show again, accountability, it was always accountability and lessons to be learned, jack welch. I send my love to susie, all his children, his family, the world lost a great leader but he did live a wonderful life, i know in the last couple of years he had several strokes, his body has been feeling certainly but he was sharp as attack until the end and he has lived a life a great life of strength, leadership of support from his family, i learned so much from jack and i know you did too. And i know youre close to sus susie. When i was talking to you mike voices cracking and then i started laughing because jack would be like whats wrong with deploy herself together. But i got to have a lot of conversations and have a different idea. But the good news is jack loved again in his life later on, he remarried, they had a beautiful love life together, i know that they truly did have a love affair, even in his 70s and 80s he was enjoying life once again with susie his partner and it made the lot down over ge really come down and it was a hard conduct but it made it easier to have susie at his side, i think when you think of jack and jacks legacy its all about leadership, it is all about the greatness, it is about lessons for the world in terms of corporate leadership. I dont think i can be another person in business that has the stunning leadership record that jack welch house. He was love not only by those people who did well under him but even those people who might have been bad at the decisions he made. Bob is a regular on a program and bob nardelli wanted the ceo job, jack did not give it to them, jack did a horse race, jack has a horse race for the job. And bob wanted it to. But even he did not get the job and was upset that jack moved there, he would also say that he loved jack so much because of all of the leadership moves that he made and the strength that he ran ge with. He was a great man and he was not afraid to just stay humble his whole life, even though he made so much money and has so much strength in terms of his moves, running ge for so long and being so smart, becoming a leadership genius, he never forgot where he came from, he was humble, he was downtoearth, he had a lot of friends, he loves cnbc, when i was there we all knew that jack was watching and jack was part of it that he could say to all his ceo friends, this is our company and thats what he was. Thank you for calling in, we will see you tomorrow. Brute under maria bartiromo, jack welch dead at the age of 84. Well be right back. What i log a scientist at 3m is that im part of a community of problem solvers. We make ideas grow. From an everyday solution. To one that can take on a bigger challenge. We are solving problems that improve lives. Dagen a little more than half an hour away from the opening bell. Futures have been all over the place. A 51point gain on the dow futures after the market suffered their worst week since october, during the financial crisis of 2008. Mitch, what are you watching this morning . It will be interesting around the globe to see whether or not central bankers are coming together around putting stimulus into the respective economies. I think thats what the market reacted to overnight and i think that thats what the markets going to look to. Also, i think markets are awaiting the next surprise. I think what happened all week and whats happened with this entire coronavirus outbreak on the markets is its been a series of surprises. The markets are cautious about a surprise but hopeful that there will be some on first blush, Monetary Policy and then the question as we cover throughout the show, whether or not there will be any fiscal stimulus that will come. Dagen right. Politically thats what were looking for. Exactly. I think it will become an election issue, certainly. Lee was saying earlier about dealing with the virus but definitely, the candidates, whoever the two turn out to be, are going to be debating how much should the government do about it. Which of course, makes me a little worried. Hopefully neither of them get too carried away. Bernie sanders, certainly he will. Dagen the democrats are trying to lay blame on President Trump. We saw them accusing him of calling the virus a hoax which he did not. You are talking about the Democrats Use of the virus as a political weapon. Thats what he was describing. But Mike Bloomberg said that on 60 minutes. Scott pelley had to push back on him. People are calling this a trump virus. If people were debating dagen tom friedman to name one. If people are debating whether or not governments should be involved, thats a win for republicans. If people are debating if trump is the reason things got out of hand, that could be a loss for the president. Super tuesday will be fascinating to watch. Polling numbers out the window because mayor pete dropped out. We dont know where those votes will go. Dagen we dont know what the turnout will look like. Young people came out in lower numbers, older people came out in higher numbers in South Carolina and voted for joe biden. Thats right. Dagen thank you all so much. Everybody, this morning. We do remember jack welch as the day moves on. We have you covered for super tuesday. Tune in for our special live coverage beginning tomorrow at 8 00 p. M. Eastern time. Thank you, one and all. Swaini a swing of more than 1,000 points for the dow. Stand up for another up and down day, after that 3500 point loss last week. Lefthand side of the screen, now we are on the upside, up to the tune of 150 points. We had been down, what, more than 400, almost 500 points at one stage. The s p has turned around, up 73.
