Is the most loyal of them all, mornings with maria live right now. Maria top story right now 2020 democrats facing off in las vegas tonight, Michael Bloomberg making debut on debate stage ahead of nevada caucuses, democratic rivals taking him to task all night over controversial statements as well as wealth, Hillary Vaughn joins us with some of the highlights, hillary, good morning to you. Mayor Michael Bloomberg finally grade fellow candidates and that gave them a chance to finally challenge him face to face. A billionaire who calls women fat broads and horsefaced lesbians and no im not talking about donald trump, im talking about Michael Bloomberg, democrats take a huge risk if we just substitute one arrogant billionaire for another. I dont think you look at donald trump and say we need someone richer in the white house. We couldnt have to choose between one candidates who wants to burn the party down and another candidate who buys the other party out. I worked very hard for it and im giving it away. Maybe your work would play a role as well. Its ridiculous. We are not going to throw out capitalism, we tried that, other countries countries it was call communism and it just didnt work. Bloomberg was on a defense last night with stop and frisk and explained several lawsuits filed from women in workplace and say they were probably over a bad joke, bloomberg try today justify billionaire status Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren who argue people like him should not exist by saying he wants to spend all his money defeating donald trump and the other major on stage, Pete Buttigieg said to him, you can still spend all your money doing that but it doesnt mean you should become president , maria. Maria Hillary Vaughn in las vegas, joining the conversation this morning, turning point iraq war veteran always a soldier rob smith, fox business Dagen Mcdowell and forbes media chairman former president ial candidate himself steve forbes, great to see you all. Thank you so much for joining us. Dagen so glad i stayed up late for that. Maria it was great. Dagen 64 billion did not buy you a debate prep, he had to know that they were going to come for him, i said 2 days ago on outnumbered that i was going to be doing this watching Elizabeth Warren attack him about the treatment of women by him and by the people at his company and he was wholly unprepared. He was not prepared to respond on stop and frisk, he looked weak, he looked, quite frankly confused at some points but its not over for him in part because he has 54 billion in the bank, as i said, he has executed the most brilliant Online Dating profile so far, this is the first date but it was so bad that people might actually feel sorry him and give him a second date, he has the South Carolina debate. Anything about last night it was plume black and bloomberg, these people really, really hit him hard, bloomberg looked weak, nervous, insecure, it was 9 00 p. M. East coast but he was not ready for prime time, it was really, really bad. He must feel maybe he should rejoin the Republican Party after what he went through last night. Big winner was Bernie Sanders and a lot of democrats who they havent already had omg moment, oh, my god moment this guy could be the nominee of the party. Hes a front runner and solidify it last night. Elizabeth warren wounded Michael Bloomberg, remember when rubio was hurt. Chris christie not to pull it off. Elizabeth warren did not move up in the polls so much, she did not move Bernie Sanders, Bernie Sanders is winning the socialist primary, Elizabeth Warren is not. On the moderate on the moderate side both the mayor, he did okay, Amy Klobuchar did not do that well. Imagine congressional candidates, democrat candidates in swing districts how they feel this morning. [laughter] maria yeah. Very obvious that all of the moments with Bernie Sanders right now, i dont think he necessarily had a bad night, i think he had a good night. Hes been saying the same thing for the past 420 years and his base is really with him and if he doesnt get the nomination in the moment that they talked about laying process play out at the convention, if he doesnt get the nomination, his supporters already have been upset with the democratic party. Maria normally the market rallies when you see Bernie Sanders because investors do not believe that Bernie Sanders can beat donald trump, so if hes the nominee, theres a big feeling that hes not going to be what do you think . I dont think that he can beat donald trump. Maria thats how the market i dont see it. Dagen in the wall street journal poll yesterday that 65 of democratic primary voters said they are enthusiastic about Bernie Sanders candidacy or at least comfortable with it as a larger share than any other candidate and well above his 37 support as first choice for nominee. Maria thats a big number. Dagen Elizabeth Warren did well last night, first hour of the debate she had the strongest fundraising in one hour so far during candidacy, in one half hour period she raised 400,000 and she needed to change approach, she did just that she not only went after bloomberg, everybody, even Pete Buttigieg. Maria she had to do something to save herself, and while all of this is going on, President Trump is rallying his supporters, thousands of supporters in phoenix and here is what the president said, mimi Mike Bloombergsors of mini Mike Bloomberg was stumbling and mumbling. Tom steyer and others are learning, when you get in nfl when theyre allow today hit you with helmets its another thing. Maria yeah. Elizabeth warren and joe biden, both were strong but i dont think they saved their candidacies. Maria we havent talked enough about joe biden, youre right. Dagen ly wait. Maria 9 people are dead this morning in bars in germany, a gunman opened fire in frankfurt, it is believed that the shooting may have been politically motivated. Once again closing record territory, the dow snapped a 3day losing streak yesterday with more unchartered territory for the other averages, joining me hank smith, great to see you again, thank you so much for being here. Good morning, great to be with you. Maria any take aways in terms of investing from those those moments last night, the debate, i know you do not want to put politics in investing, anything that you took away last night in terms of policy moves, where things are going and impact on your money . Clearly a fighting match, look, agreed, you cannot let politics get in the way of investing, the most frequently asked question were getting at client meetings what does the market do if sanders wins and our answer is pretty simple, we are still in the primaries, you can say whatever you want and we saw that last night, it just doesnt matter wait till we get to the general election and i also like to point out that its a virtual impossibility that we are going to get medicare for all or anything like that or any of all the other freebies, look at what the voters and the markets said regarding medicare for all when Elizabeth Warren last fall came out with her details, thats all it took were the details and her poll numbers went right down, thats the voters speaking and look at United Healthcare went from 220 a share back to 300 in 3 months, that is the market telling you, theres going to be no medicare for all. Maria sounds like youre still buying stocks and you want to be invested in this market . Absolutely, look, the Building Blocks of this bull market are still very well in place, low inflation, low Interest Rates, a growing economy, growing earnings and strong Balance Sheets and a very healthy Banking System and the Building Blocks arent going away any time soon. Hank, since it looks so good the black swans they talk about, what can upset this, when it feels good usually something happens . At some point we dont get some Earnings Growth you will have a valuation problem but that in and of itself doesnt cause the market to correct, perhaps an inflation scare, perhaps a scare that sanders might actually win this although the market every time sanders does well the market does well because of the belief that trump can easily defeat sanders. Maria thats what i keep saying. I want to get your take because the Federal Reserve obviously in focus, the fed releasing minutes from the meeting last night showing confidence in the economy is still there, Interest Rates will likely stay steady, but we did get that inflation number this week, up 5 tenths of a percent versus 1 tenth of a percent, whats your take on inflation rate right now, hank . Interest rates are telling you that theres so little inflation, look at where the 10year treasury is, plus structural, longterm, Secular Forces that are keeping inflation at bay, one is technology and the application of technology, two, the tremendous supply of labor globally and 3 demographic, we are aging, we are retiring the babyboom generation and that is helping keep wages down because they are being replaced with lower compensated workers. Maria we will leave it there, look at the 30year yield, 1. 98 , incredible, hank smith, good to see you this morning, thank you. Great to be with you. Maria stay with us, i will be speaking with Alan Greenspan at 8 30 a. M. Eastern, you dont want to miss that, were you going to jump in steve . No, no, interesting to see what he says because hes saying nice things about the gold standards. Maria quick break, coming upset for sentencing, roger stone learning his fate later on today. Maria welcome back it is sentencing day of roger stone, comes after President Trump pardoned bernie, mike milken earlier this week among others, roger stone will learn his fate today, expectations here, steve forbes, dagen, rob. Throw the book out and he will get clemency either before or after the election. Do you think the president will pardon him . Dagen how about a new trial given the bias, the collusion hoax, the foreman of the jury, thats a possibility, event judge napolitano has said that roger stone deserves a new trial. He might get the harshest sentence but pending appeal, pending a new trial he could still stay a freeman, thats a possibility. Maria because theres conflict on the jury. Dagen jury foreman. Dagen, you made a good point how this is misreported on the media, they would make it seem like trump made a tweet about this and all of a sudden was going back and saying this is too harsh, this all happened before the tweet and there were some stuff thats going on behind the scenes that people dont know about. Dagen too early for me to start yelling. 6 24 in the morning, a sentencing recommendation, its up to the judge what his sentence is, pure and simple, and it was within the Justice Department, kim strassel wrote about this last week, they had decided that not 7 to 9 years was too harsh and it was the prosecutors who then turned around because they didnt get their way, the prosecutors who went to an interim official justice and said, well, threw a fit about wanting 7 to 9 years, he caved in, there wasnt any communication with the white house about what the sentence recommendation was going to be and ultimately its the judge who makes that call. Maria well, they do want to see what bill barr is doing and the critics of the president , 2,000 people doj leaving insisting that bill barr resign which in my view the reason is because they are working on investigating these investigators and because of what went on in 2060, hes an honest broker. Yes, hes out, trying to clean out the permanent state inside the Justice Department which feels they have their own world, do their own thing, their own way and the heck with any political accountability. Dagen if bill barr was as corrupt as the left accuses him of being, he would not have let the Mueller Probe go ahead to its conclusion, he wouldnt have let the trial of roger stone proceed, he wouldnt and he wouldnt have let andy mccabe off the hook, again, at least one of those people what he says in public, you can pretty count hes saying that in private, the president and everybody. Maria we will see what happens with mccabe, comey, all of the figures who were really calling the shots in back of 2016 in terms of framing donald trump, we will see what happens with the john durham report, which by the way we are expecting this year, one expectation was the springtime, we will see when john durham finishes investigation but it is in fact, criminal, 102yearold war veteran carried to seat last night, keep your bags close, which airlines likely to lose your baggage, thats right here [sfx doorbell] hello, i saw you move in, and i wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood with some homemade biscuits oh, thats so nice and a little tip, geico could help you save on homeowners insurance. Call geico and see how easy saving on homeowners and condo insurance can be. Ill come back for the plate. whistling saving on homeowners and condo insurance can be. Maria welcome back, President Trump needs acting intelligence chief, cheryl. Cheryl the president is appointing the current ambassador to germany richard as next acting director of national intelligence, grannel replace Joseph Mcguire whose temporary term expires in march, created back in 2004 to oversee nations spy agency. Change at the top of Victoria Secret and Parent Company l brand, partners agreed to buy controlling interest in l brands in deal valued 1. 1 billion, take the company private. Harry and meghan have set date for royal exit, on march 31st, the Buckingham Palace office will close and yearlong transition period will begin, the two will reportedly travel later to uk before stepping down, senior members of world family members, that wont be awkward at all, whether harry and meghan can use royal for branding purposes. And finally, if youre carrying something that you care about across country and youre flying, avoid american airlines, carrier named the airline most likely to mishandle your bags in 2019. This is according to dot actually, the reports that american mishandled more than 626,000 bags last year, that is a lot higher than the competition but, of course, united and alaska making list, who is the best legion air followed by frontier and hawaiian airlines, all they do is island talk, but anyway, besides that maria all right. Cheryl i like united. Maria i hate that when they mess with your bags, the worst. President trumps west coast tour while democrats duking it out in sin city last night, the president held a rally last night slamming opponents. Washington democrats keep on losing their minds, they hate the fact that we are winning, you know, there have never been rallies like that. Sleepy joe biden had 68 people and now they have a new member of the crew mini mike, i hear hes getting pounded tonight, you know hes in a debate, i hear they are pounding him, washington democrats have never been more extreme, taking cues from crazy Bernie Sanders, how is he doing tonight . You know, i came up with a name pocahontas too early, but fortunately shes help destruct it anyway, did you ever see a phoney like that, shes a phoney, the Democrat Party is the party of high taxes, high crime, open borders, lateterm abortion, socialism, blatant corruption and the total destruction of your second amendment. Maria joining us right now the Senior Editor at the federalist chris bedford, chris, good to see you, thank you so much for being here. Good morning. Maria reaction to the debate last night, what struck you . What struck me from the debate maybe the most exciting of the democratic debates that i have seen so far and every Single Person there was desperate to go at each other, the first chance to go at Michael Bloomberg, Bernie Sanders by this point established himself by actual leaders in the polls as well as Pete Buttigieg and because of that, every candidate was going at each others throats, a couple of moments there, i agree with analysts afterward because at the end of the day donald trump won the evening, you compare that to massive rally that the president was having not too far away. Maria absolutely, tough split screen and the heartwarming moment, world war ii veteran carried to his seats to chants of usa and praised by President Trump, watch this. Its all over tv that the folks here tonight have helped a great world war ii veteran into the arena. I dont know if he knows it but hes right now hottest celebrity in the world. I dont know whats going on here. They say hes a legitimate great hero of world war ii, irvin julian, thank you. [applause] maria that certainly unifying, chris, your reaction . 100yearold navy veteran, absolutely the greatest generation, i was up in manchester, New Hampshire at trump rallies, peel are already lined up for colorado rally, they started lining up last night, whats with the energy of the trump rallies because i generally myself dont like standing in the freezing rain in the parking lot like they were in New Hampshire and its because i realized its a whole tailgate, when the Trump Supporters come together like this, they cracking beers, selling hats, its like a fairground mentality, this was the president s first trip to arizona during the whole election cycle, new election cycle, he brings out the crowds but not only is he bringing out crowds, its a datagathering operation, brad pascal Campaign Manager said that 70 or so thousand they identified at the rally, 30,000 voters got their information, people who are going to vote this time around, a quarter of them have never voted before, 18 were democrats, this is how it will help Donald Trumps campaign. Maria thats smart, dagen. Dagen it is, chris, the fact that rallies are entertaining and if you watch the debate last night it was like airing of the grievances and they are talking to the American People [laughter] dagen about a country that for many doesnt exist, what are they talking about, 6 out of 10 americans feel better financially than they did a year ago if you look out, it goes to 71 , those readings on where the economy and people feel the highest theyve been in 20 years, people are working, its full employment, if you want a better job, you can find one, wages are going up, these people are talking about i dont know what country but not one tmariaa said he built, chris. You know, obama the number of people who thought the country was going the right way for 4 years ago under barack obama, before reelection, excuse me, was about 20 , right now its over 40 and as we know, barack obama was reelected and beat governor mitt romney, that is not a good number for the democrats to hear and to see them on the stage saying the country is going in the wrong direction when like dagen said theres historic number of people who say otherwise, thats a tough message to sell. Thats one thing, chris, you made a good point about that at rallies, aspirational. In 2016 reporters just go before the rally, picked out a come of people they thought looked like nuts and try today portray them as the angry Trump Supporters and they dont get the tailgating thing, people having a good time, people want to move ahead, its very optimistic and thats what the democrats miss, people love the country and they just cant seem to get it. Maria totally missing it. Youre right. Maria rob, youve been at the rallies. I have. Chris, i went to one of the rallies in orlando, i didnt actually get inside, i was filming content with turning point usa but the entire block, filled with people and bars, restaurants, tailgating having fun, steve, to your point, theres a lot of people that were negatively portrayed in the media and on social media at the very beginning when he was campaigning for president , all of this stuff and i think that people are really cognizant of not putting that stuff out, its a lot positive america Loving Energy at the rallies and you kind of have to experience it for yourself to really get what it is. Maria the shaming from the left is not working as much as it was back in 2016, chris, is that a fair statement because the critics of the president want to shame anybody who shows any support for the president whether its on social media, attacks, namecalling, its not working, i dont think its resinating as much. Its not resinating as much, i think the tension in the air from somebody Walking Around wearing a red maga hat certainly decreased from where it was 2 years ago when it was like a violent tension in the area, you couldnt walk in new york city wearing that hat and New Hampshire, split state, South Carolina, we saw just it now in arizona, the red hats were filling the bars in the afternoons before rally, people were all there, they are Walking Around with it, you know, even seeing them at democratic rallies, there was not vitriol, mostly light hearted going back and forth, granted, a lot of violent extremists and you are seeing with complaints of bah b and Union Members about the bernie bros, violent leftwing activists. Dagen dont forget Steve Scalise was shot by a bernie voter. I saw two guys getting into a fistfight in Bernie Sanders maria Harvey Weinstein, jury deliberations, we are talking to jesse weber who has been in the courtroom every day, will give us the low down of what is going on, putting the phone down, new study shows constant cell phone use is like a drug addiction, dr. Mike weighs, a lot to come. Maria welcome back, doctors are warning about device addiction, new study shows constant use of cell phone affects your brain the same way drugs affect your brain, joining us now dr. Mikhail varshavski, also known as dr. Mike. How are you . I think they are always around us, pockets, what have you, they are somewhat addicting, the Way Companies make apps is to make them program your minds to constantly use them, each time you get a notification for like or email, you get a hit of dopamine, people start feeling good and similar how drugs affect your brain, thats not to say using your cell phone is like being a drugs, thats a stretch to say that. Maria okay. These can be addicting but we also learn to use them as a tool that can help us in our lives, connect better with others, be more creative and i think we need villainize technology. Here is a cure for it, flip phone. [laughter] maria what about having the phone next to your head or next to your body, watching a piece last night, a woman pregnant was taking pictures of the baby, you know, in her womb, what about that, is there danger to that . We havent found evidence that having close phone from our bodies f youll be using for a long period of time, make sure to use a head set. Dagen i will start to seeing a had trouble sleeping, you need to get it on your brain, do not ever look at your phone, dont ever look at your clock when youre sleeping, if you wake up, roll over, it activates your brain, if you see anything, bright light, even the time it activates your brain, i only have 2 hours, i only have an hour left, i only have half an hour left. Maria you not keep it by your bedside. Dagen i do but i dont look at it. I roll over and go back to sleep. Huge social media platform, how do you use the phone less . I think you have to set rules and boundaries for yourself, just like with work, its very easy to get very you and i were talking about this. Emails, unless you create a time, i will not be answering emails, not use cell phone one hour before bedtime only then can you make positive steps moving forward. Dagen, i like your point of not using phone at bed, one anxiety that you talk about, a big back comes from fear of missing out, your exboyfriend or girlfriend doing fun stuff and you get anxiety. Dagen i have no friends. [laughter] maria i have to get your take on new extreme diet raising concerns in medical community, restricts both food and water for intermediate amounts of time, food and water, dr. Mike . Well, first we had fasting and everybody got excited. Im actually a fan. Maria i feel like that works. 16 hours of no eating and 8 hours maria ive been doing that. Putting water into this you will create more problems into yourself, safer ways to lose weight, be healthy, dont restrict your water intake, your body is mainly composed of water, we need water to get rid of toxins, unless you have a specific rare condition. Maria youll get a headache from dehydration. [laughter] skin doesnt look god when youre dehydrated. Maria thats true. Violonist playing while they remove tumor in hospital. How is this possible . Wow. Amazing footage and something that doctors that do this type of procedure do regularly, the reason they do this is to make sure that when theyre taking out a tumor they are not affecting the patients own abilities before the surgery they do something call functional mri mapping, they understand what parts of the brain light up when a patient does a specific activity, for this musician it was very important that the left sideher body works well in order to play the violin, and they did it, it was a Successful Operation from what i read and im happy with outcome. Maria unbelievable. Its fantastic, amazing. Dr. Mike, thank you. Maria welcome back, day 3 of jury deliberations at the Harvey Weinstein trial, the panel seems to be retrying case on its own, yesterday jurors requesting weinstein emails 2017 private investigators redflagging women including sopranos actress who alleges weinstein raped her in 1993, her testimony supports case of predatory behavior, jurors asked why there were no charges in case indicating potential confusion, law and Crime Network host jesse weber, great to see you. Youre in the courtroom, we want to get the inside from you, what does he look like, what is he saying, jurors requested review of testimony from actress rosie perez, right . First lets talk about he looks, he looks nervous, understandably so, that might be last time he asked as freeman, i asked how are you feeling, i feel good. You can see past that, we are all in courtroom waiting for the jury verdict, 80 reporters watching him every second, periods of time when he leaves courtroom and second room, he doesnt want eyes on him during this pressure point, everybody wants to see what he will be looking like as hes waiting for his fate and you mention rosie perez, this jury is asking for readbacks of pretty much of all critical testimony, they are trying to case again if youre the prosecution or the defense maybe you didnt make a convincing argument one way or the other and thats what so shocking at this point, when are you going to get a verdict, they are not close to that at this point, they are still going 2 counts of verdict form. Maria hes got a walker with him, tell me about that, does he really need the walker or is that theatrics . Im not defending Harvey Weinstein at any point but i will say the walker is real, i tell you why, a lot of times hes struggling or using the walker when they are not present. Is it for the media . Look, ive seen him struggle. So theres part of me where feels that he does have a serious injury, he doesnt look good, he doesnt look the same way a year ago. Theres report that is hes been on the party scene in new york chatting up young ladies, it just seems like those are two different Harvey Weinsteins. I sawnd he appeared to be fine and wasnt using the walker, i know he had surgery at a later point, hes on a rare position where east out on bail all around town, in fact, i heard after Court One Day he actually went down back to dinner, hes living the moment, but you have to imagine this is somebody who feels that he might go to prison for the rest of his life and hes in this weird predicament where i had the opportunity to interview publicist, hes getting a ton of surprising which is surprising and has a ton of friends and community that want to be around him during final stages. Who is the support coming from . That i do not know, all i see is pr team, nor lawyers, i dont see his brother or friend, people who are supporting him outside of courtroom. And do you get any feeling from the jury which way they might go . Let me tell you something, trying to predict which way a jury will go, no way. They are focusing a lot on miriam and anabella, they were confused why they couldnt find him guilty just of anabella, they havent asked questions about jessica man who a lot in the community might be the problematic witness for the state but having said that, its impossible to predict which way they are going. Dagen when the jury gets ready to deliver verdict do they look at defendant, ive been in courtrooms and when they come out that can be a great when they come in and out, they try not to look at him. I dont know what that means. They try not to. Maria what about the team to get juror dismissed. Not trying to defend Harvey Weinstein, juror 11 who they tried to get because shes pending a novel of predatory older men. She reviewed books about the same subject matter during the course of the trial. Maria we will be right back. Charles berry has been released each time since the new law took effect. He told the New York Post its lit. In upstate new york, a man was arrested three times in one day. Scott know land is accused noland is a accused of shoplifting, attacking another man with a brick. Police say jail reform is to blame. Joining me now to talk about it is Dagen Mcdowell and steve forbes. Weve been expecting crime to go up in new york. Dagen especially robberies, burglaries and theft. I follow or ive closely watched the police n be association forw york city and theyve constantly tweeted out how crime is out of control. There is a career criminal busted for ripping off a tourist at a subway station, his 140th arrest, his seventh engines january 1st. In the minds and in the message of Governor Cuomo and bill de blasio and their lib billy libel lemmings that crime isnt a crime. If you send someone to the hospital its not felony assault, its simple assault. There is no bail. If you can rob somebody on the Street Corner and just visibly prices are going up on products because shop keepers and store owners are being robbed repeatedly. Theyre raising prices. There is no protection. And im telling you vigilante justice will come back and so will the mob because shop keepers and people in business will have to pay for protection and is that their vision for new york . Maria when we brought you this news that three quarters of ill a inmates would be released. I talked about ry Rikers Island being the focus and they want to have three jails with lower capacity. Its also this bail reform law which actually force these inmates back on the streets, steve, and theyre recurringly theyre recurring crimes over and over again. Its not just crime. Its going to have a political impact. Why such a lack of common sense among democrats . We went through this in the 50s, 60s and 70s. We saw where it led. Now theyre doing it again. I think this is a prime issue for donald trump, saying this is the kind of governance they give you, against what Everybody Knows is going to happen, and its going to hurt them. How do they justify that . The only thing thats going to be lit is peoples desire to get out of the city. Ive lived in new york city for a decade. Youve seen more Homeless People on the subways. Theres a fear of being unphased and laws like this dont help. People are saying its too early to draw any conclusions, with he need to keep this going and see. How many people need to be victims of scri crime before yoe its not the right decision. This is one of of the reasons we have an economic drain on new york city in general, losing billions of dollars. Maria wheres the accountability . We traveled, took the cameras to San Francisco a couple months ago and we saw a similar situation on the streets in San Francisco, tents all over the place. You cant even walk on the street, theres so much homelessness. La, the same thing. San francisco is Nancy Pelosis district. Adam schiff, one of his districts in california. What are they doing for their constituents . New york, same thing. What are you doing for the constituents . Jerry nadler. Theyre doing absolutely nothing. The thing that kills me about the left is that theres no accountability because they say the right things. Its so nice and its so sweet to hear the right things. When you look around you and you see the stuff thats going on, you know theyre not doing anything and they continue to get away with it for decades and decades in congress, like Maxine Waters and jerry nadler. Maria exactly. You saw new york city in the late 80s, early 90s the thing with rudy giuliani. There is a reaction. Youll see it in california. Huge blue state but people are turning. Maria are they, though . Thats the ultimate accountability. How come nobody calls out jerry nadler on whats gone on in new york, nancy pelosi with whats gone on in San Francisco. Its got be done nonmainstream media. Maria theyre not going to do it. Dagen San Francisco has been like this for 50 years, San Francisco has been on this path for 50 years. I lived there 20 years ago. It was bad. Its worse now. Its a l tolerance for crime, its a tolerance for behavior by a few that impacts the lives of all. Maria isnt that why she went to washington . To fight for San Francisco, to fight for the constituents in washington. Isnt that why jerry nadler went to washington, to fight for new york . What are you doing . This is why we need congressional term limits. Maria youre right. People go to congress, they sit there, do nothing but enrich themselves for decades and decades. Dagen its on the constituents. They vote them in. They voted in bill de blasio again. Maria smallest electorate ever to come out and vote. Dagen this is really important. A lot of the problem with crime is related to mental illness. President trump in his budgets just proposed to end 55year ban on medicaid funding for institutional care, finally. The tide is turning in this nation where we admit they that people who are mentally ill should not be on the street and they should be in facilities and under care. This could change everything. What opponents have to do is make the moral case, this is morally wrong and instead of just saying, yeah, Crime Statistics go up but its morally wrong what you do to these people. Its barbaric to take somebody that is not mentally capable and throw them out on the street and see what happens. Mariawhere. Maria where is the accountability . Weve got to get back to the Federal Reserve in focus and last nights debate. We talk withal lain greenspan come Alan Greenspan coming up. Well talk about the Coronavirus Impact. Sin city showdown, 2020 democrats faced off in vegas last night as President Trump rallied supporters in arizona. Joining us right now is pollster lee carter, lee, it is great to have you this morning. Want to get to these dials. We have Elizabeth Warren calling out mayor bloomberg for alleged sixism. Watch sexism. Watch. I want to talk about who were running against, a billionaire who calls women fat broads and horse faced lesbians. Im not talking about donald trump. Im talking about mayor bloomberg. Democrats are not going to win if we have a nominee who has a history of hiding his tax returns, of harassing women. Maria wow. Lee, tell us what you saw. Oh, man, that hurt. Republicans gave it a d, democrats a b minus, independents a c, that was Elizabeth Warren perform mans and assessment. Performance and assessment. The bottom line is this, did it help Elizabeth Warren or hurt bloomberg. I would argue it hurt bloomberg. It was terrible. He wasnt prepared for niece comments and a these athat is ae comments and these attacks. It was devastating for him. There will be some people out there who will say you think i was tough on him, put me on the stage against donald trump because im the only one who could take anybody. Maria you think she won last night . I dont think she won that much. But i think she won a little. Dagen you know why . Because oh, oh, oh, with the hand in the air. Maria i thought for a minute i felt what is going on with the moderator, how come theyre losing control. S thats what i thought too. It was a free for all. Dagen one, two, three and four. It was a social media moment that Elizabeth Warren needed because she was kind of on life support and she was getting a lot of bad press after the last couple weeks. This is a really good moment for her. I do agree, this was toxic and tragic for bloomberg, really bad. She reminds people of their least favorite teacher. Thats the thing. I call her the school marm. Yeah, i call her the school ma are rm. Maria how about this, bloomberg was h defending capit. I cant think of a way to make it easier for donald trump to get reelected than listening to this conversation. Its ridiculous. Were not going to throw out capitalism. We tried had that. Other countries tried that. Its called communism and a it just didnt work. Interesting to see who res nateed the most there. The resonated the most. The republicans gave him a b. He was flatlined there. I thought it was a clever line. Hes not wrong. I think the people that are watching this, who won the debate is donald trump. This was ridiculous. They were taking each other down. Whats the takeaway . What candidate is going to be the candidate that is for the people . They were just killing each other, destroying each other, it was not something that was productive. Do you think bernie solidified his support among his base, maintain that lead . Deviate from script. He was who he was. And thats what his supporters like. Supporter who love him love the idea that he is cranky and will do what he says hes going to do. Nobodys going to work with him. With young people, healthcare, i talked to a young person the other day, oh, hes going to do healthcare like every other country does. Its socialist, they see him as a guy maybe grumpy but compassionate, going to help people. The idea how hes taking down success and billionaires and hes a socialist, thats not what people are resonating with him. What people are resonating is the idea theres an unfair system, the system is rigged against the people, it doesnt seem fair that bloomberg can make so much money while other people dont. He hes playing into the idea of fairness, whats resonating is not socialism. Maria what about the aspirational notion of it, you can come from nothing and become a millionaire and billionaire. Dagen he calls wealth grotesque and a immoral and wrong. Wealth. He called it immoral last night. Dagen he better not preach morality to people. Wealth equals success and self determination. Wealth equals im making a decision about my own life and my own career and my own future, not you and government. Bloombergs line, where he said youre a millionaire with three homes and youre a socialist. He said thats part of the american dream. Dagen but he doesnt believe in the american dream. He believes in doing away with it. He believes if you start making money, im coming to your wealth because i make better decisions about your wealth and healthcare than you do. Maria thats probably one of the dumbest thing he ever said, no billionaires should be allowed in america. Where should they go . China . The president was talking about this last night in his l rally in arizona. President trump slammed democrats socialist policies. Watch what he said. Washington democrats have never been more extreme, taking cues from crazy Bernie Sanders, while the socialist democrats are trying to destroy American Healthcare and your social security. My administration is protecting your social security, your medicare, and is fighting to give you great healthcare and thats what were getting. Maria tell us about that, lee, what republicans are giving this an a. Independents giving it a b, democrats give it an f. The level of enthusiasm that people have for the president on the republican side, theyre up in the 90s. We didnt see that in the democrat debate. There was no enthusiasm at that level. Independents will be critical to reelection. Theyre resonating with what he hes talking about, theyre not for socialism. The whole notion right now, the democrats are fighting within each other, theyve got to figure out who theyre going to be and what candidate theyll put forth because he is going to be tough to beat. No matter how easy they think for biden to say they could put up mickey mouse and win, theyre not right about that. This is going to be a of tough race. Maria the president keeps saying the Republican Party is more unified than ever before. Hacking bieber and dorsey, hit by a major cyber attack, inside the digital heist coming up. So youve got to get heft. Thats going to do more than simply having a rich person as a client. That rich person knows theyve got everyone wanting their business and theyll offer great prices and service. Maria thats a good point. Etrades not that big in terms of assets, its only 360 billion in assets, a million retail customers. One part of etrades business thats extremely important, particularly for Morgan Stanley, which i think it already does this, is managing the stock programs or Options Programs for employees at companies, when you get, say, options as part of your compensation. And thats been thats a big part of certainly etrades business. Maria assets under management for morgan, 3 trillion under the morgan umbrella. The race to gather assets has been going on for a while in Financial Services and certainly in Wealth Management. Ubs was the first to start focusing just on Wealth Management. What does it mean for the economy . Youve got the Coronavirus Impact on the economy. All three major indices reached record highs yesterday, sealing small pullbacks on coronavirus news. Goldman sachs is warning clients about a possible correction, saying investors are underestimating the risk associated with the Health Crisis which has spread across the world as you can see there from our map. Joining us now is the former under secretary of state for Economic Growth, energy and the environment, bob hormath. How does the coronavirus play into your estimates in terms of Economic Growth . Well, first of all, china is the second biggest economy in the world, its very connected to the rest of the Global Economy. Just a couple numbers to illustrate the point. In 2003, when we had the sars epidemic in china, it lasted for about three months. At that point in time, china was growing at around 10 . And china was about 3 to 4 of the Global Economy by imf measurements. Now, chinas growth rate is around 6 , a little bit lower, before the coronavirus hit and it accounts for roughly 18 to 20 of the Global Economy, its much more integrated and the supply chains are far more integrated with the Global Economy than they were in 2003. So its bigger, more integrated and has been growing more slowly. So the vulnerabilities are greater, even though the rate of incubation is higher, the death rate is lower from the current coronavirus, but its affecting more people. Its making more people sick and the chinese are shutting down a lot of companies. So the impact is much greater than the number of deaths, as horrible as they are, would suggest. Its much more affecting the Global Economy. Maria one of the things ive been saying is the supply chain is going to get disrupt and thats one practical result of this. Youre going to have bottlenecks, youre going to have shortages in terms of parts and components and i dont want to underestimate the issues around healthcare because of so many generic drugs coming from china, theres that as well. Thats the key. It is first of all, there is a higher death rate because more people are getting it. But the supply chain impact is much more intense than under sars. Its intense. People say well, its mainly just ijust in the province. Chinas economy is connected. If a factory can produce certain components in that province, a factory in shanghai cant get them cant get the final products. The same is true worldwide. One little component that is not produced i can affect products n many other parts of the world. Thats the thing were missing, the Multiplier Effect is considerably greater than in the past. It will have an effect on china and other countries in the world, including american factories. China is a big source of demand for a lot of high tech american goods. Maria the other thing is, china is not shipping the items that theyre supposed to be shipping here. I reported this last week, i was talking with one of my sources in in the hospital industry, they ordered things like plastic gloves and masks, supposed to be coming from china, china is turning the ships around saying we need the products here. We need them. Maria theres that as well. Our hospitals in the u. S. Are waiting on these important products. Other countries want to protect themselves. They want to buy masks. They cant get them at all. The point you make about pharmaceutical products is very important. Of the active ingredients in american pharmaceutical products, something on the order of 60 to 70 of the active ingredients come from other parts of the world ment china is one supplier, india is another, israel, ireland. Maria thats exactly wa what i said yesterday. Youre exactly right. The supply chain in pharmaceuticals and in electronics is even greater. Maria i dont think weve seen the impact of that dagen, how do you see it. Dagen the communist governments behavior, im curious what will be the Lasting Impact of that, keeping the cdc out, clearly trying to hide whats going on, just in the last couple days, sending three wall street journal reporters, expelling them from the company because, again, they dont want they dont want the press, because it isnt a free press in china, reporting whats happening on the ground. And at what point do particularly with President Trumpses posture on china, do Companies Say i cant do business there anymore, i have to find another place for production. Maria does this impact xijinping. Hes dictator for life until hes not. Hes got pressure from hong kong protests, now hes got the coronavirus. Is there anything that could be significant enough, the trust that dagen mentionses, that could take him out in terms of his dictator for life status . I think his position is still very strong. Maria it is . The visit to the hospital where you see him wearing a mask and going to the hospital. Maria two months later, we see him with a mask on at the hospital. Its an indication that he now understands better than ever that he has to demonstrate personally that hes directly engaged in trying to, a, understand the human impact of this but also take more leadership in dealing with it. I actually think xijinpings position probably is not going to change that much. Hes still in a very strong position. But how they deal with this over the next several months is going to obviously be very important in the way the Party Apparatus is judged and the party maria if they have nothing to hide, why wont they let the cdc in there to find out where the coronavirus originated from. Its a question of transparency. Maria i want to repeat this. This is from the lindsey group. Larry lindsey has great research. He said the pla, the communist government, reported that a Major General has been deployed to oversee activities. Who is the Major General . She was listed as researcher at the medical institute at the academy of military sciences. Bottom line, she is chinas top person in biokim biochemical w. Whys is she overseeing the activity if it came from an open market . We need to understand where it came from, is it a super lab or open market . Chinese scientists have broken down sequenced the genes, the genome of the vie rise and they have virus and they have published this around the world. Theyre trying to get input from other scientists around the world to help them. There has been at the scientific level a lot of interaction between chinese scientists and researchers around the world and theyve come to one consistent collusion, that the conclusion, that the genome of the virus is similar to the sars, 80 similar, theyre trying to get drugs from other companies that were partially successful in dealing with sars and see if they work in china so there is a lot of linkage of the Scientific Community and i think thats one of the things that doesnt get as much attention. But american scientists at various schools are talking to chinese scientists. Maria i only throw this out because senator cotton as you know has said that the only level four super lab with biochemicals in china is in wuhan. But china maria just throwing that out. Its interesting. I think we shouldnt jump to conclusions. Maria no, no, no, im just saying the facts. Im not you know there are other viruses of a similar nature that have emerged not just from china but places where they have this interaction between animals and human beings and these markets and various parts of asia so i wouldnt make too much of that. But i do think on the scientific left theres a level theres a lot of interaction that is very important and i think there will be dont forget, we dont even have a drug or vaccine for the flu. Weve been working on chinese chinese, others have been working on it. Its very hard to come up with a cure for this. Theyre doing a lot of work dagen questio we dont hide r of people dying from the flu. Were open about that. Whats going on here is a coverup. When youre putting other peoples lives at risk and the virus is spreading to other countries, it raises the issue of the communist government and how they treat their own people, either intentionally or accidentally. Maria why not have the leading disease institutions to go to wuhan. Why not have the cdc in there . Whats the problem . I think there is a lot more collaboration. The visit is one point. I think theres a lot more Cooperation Among researchers in this country who who looked at these kinds of things. Maria its great to get your insights this morning. Thank you. Coming up, espionage on college campuses, education secretary betty devos is here on how chinese cash is influencing schools. And workplace loyalty, millennials most loyal to employers . Were taking a look. Back in a moment. Sleep this amazing . Thats a zzzquil pure zzzs sleep. Our liquid has a unique botanical blend, while an optimal melatonin level means no nextday grogginess. Zzzquil pure zzzs. Naturally superior sleep. Maria welcome back. Americas Ivy League Schools under the microscope. The department of education launching an investigation into harvard and yale for allegedly failing to report foreign gifts and contracts from countries like china and saudi arabia. The department of education says that yale failed to report at least 375 million, harvards number has not been released. It comes amid the arrest of a harvard professor last month for concealing funding from a chinese lab. That raised questions about the department of education not just investigating universities as a whole but also individual employees. Joining me right now is the education secretary, betsy devos. Thanks so much for being here. Talk to us more about this. I know that secretary pompeo gave a really important speech the other day and in that speech he talked about the confucius centers, who china is trying to take as much as they can from academia in the west. Walk us through the investigation. Well, its a part of the higher ed act, 117, schools are supposed to report any foreign gifts or contracts over 250,000, twice a year. And we know that many schools have simply ignored that, maybe forgotten about it. We began investigations last year with eight schools and have expanded it now to two more and other schools are voluntarily coming forward now to report things that they had not previously disclosed. So we know so far from the top 10 schools theres least 3. 6 billion that had not been reported or disclosed and as some of the senators who have introduced legislation around this issue have said, this is a giant black hole. We want we need to know where foreign influence and foreign gifts are coming into our higher ed system and we need full transparency and accountability around that. Maria especially as we have this whole National Decision right now about china and chinas efforts to undermine the United States and steal intellectual property and also do it through academia. Tell me what chinas trying to do. Exactly. Weve seen the most recent development there with the indictment of the harvard professor. We dont know the full extent of what chinas going to do and thats why ensuring that schools are being transparent about the influence of foreign funds, no matter how they come to the school, whether its foundations, anything connected to the school that is coming from foreign actors, we need to we need to broadly know about and thats why were going we are extending these investigations and we are assisting schools with ensuring they know the extent to which they need to report. Maria we want to talk about the budget. The president unveiled his budget request for the department of education for fiscal year 2021. In it he called for the end to some student loan forgiveness programs. Secretary, what is the president s budget prioritizing, why is he putting an end to that and how is he fighting the skyrocketing student loan crisis . We know there are way too many options for student loan paybacks, very confusing, its been patchworked together for many years. The president s budget recommends one streamlined program but importantly, some of the other things were doing to help students make wise decisions about their Higher Education, were adding a lot of information. They can go to look at what its going to cost them for a program at a school, compare it to the same program at another school and then importantly, what their earning potential is if they graduate from that program. A lot more transparency around cost and also a lot of effort to reform the accreditation rules which are is going to allow for a lost more innovation and e creativity in the Higher Education world. We were talking about the investigation into harvard and yale and the idea that all this foreign money comes into the University Level that is not being reported. Is it the issue around National Security that thats most prominent here and the reason that the administration is making these moves . Well, certainly. I think we need to know where particularly china and other Foreign Countries are actually in in influencing our country, whether overtly or insidiously, it is important that we have daylight around what where this is happening and to what extent. Maria especially the chinese have been real aggressive in terms of coming in, trying to steal intellectual property, steal academia secrets in terms of the way were doing things. You at the department are changing a lot of things. You are also facing a lawsuit for overturning an obama era rule protecting students he defrauded by pree predatory sch. Tell us what youre doing and why you want to do away with the obama era rule. The obama era rule was bad. It was very, very broad. It did not really define being defrauded. We have refined that rule. Maria people will say, look, i was defrauded, i have to have my loan foregiven. Yes. There was basically no structure around it. Tens of thousands of students said we have been defrauded. Well, we have put a rule into place that will look at whether they have been financially harmed. Any student that has been defrauded and financially harmed should receive relief. But students that havent been harmed, other students shouldnt ultimately have to pay off their loans, which is you how it would how it would ultimately work. Institutions need to be able to stand up and say, no, these facts are not right here. Weve put a rule in place that really is fair to all parties. Maria some people work two or three jobs just to pay off loans. Why arent they getting their loan foye foreglifn exactly. Maria foregiven. Maria great to see you. Secretary betsy devos. Better on that wrestling i meanings earlier bloomberg probable feels he should have stayed in the Republican Party. New york post black and blue he definitely took a lot of heat last night. Watching bloomberg at very beginning like, one of the it is likes reading about one was plays broadway shows opened and closed a big debut crashed and burned kind of over i think he will limp to the convention but just wasnt a strong night. Wasnt ready. No but a bad first date for people who have seen him in person after this only dating campaign poor women four hundred million dollars, into trying to dejerk deprecating somehow he will get a second about date people tell the sorry for him the way he took on Bernie Sanders, i i had heard he was going to come loaded with dirt on sanders going to try and run, on his record, as the mayor. But why didnt he have a safe pat answer on the treatment of women at his company, the nondisclosure agreement, and on stop and frisk . He was not prepared to fight back on that, only had to say was if i was named in a lawsuit there is a nondisclosure agreement it is done over gone getting rid of it boom take firepower away from 34r5sh8 firepower from Elizabeth Warren. He wasnt prepared, he bass back immediately. Quite debate. What has debate prep was like did he do enough of it, wonder how many yes people he really has around him saying that that was a good job, last night, and whether the debate prep was going on. Maria welcome back, breaking news of the morning Morgan Stanley, will acquire e trade for 13 billion dollars, in all stock deal the detail largest he by u. S. Banks since 2008 financial crisis joining us he former economic adviser to president he obama 32 advisors founder ceo Fox News Contributor robert wolf you are else former ceo of ubs americas we want your take on deal of the day. Brilliant by gorman not surprising you mentioned before brilliantly all stock deal Morgan Stanley stock up dramatically, e trade has kind of been up, less than a marketplace, number two they get 350 to 400 billion of assets under management more importantly, Morgan Stanley, some people do decide i want to be in the product push, others decide i want to be in client push they are in client push they want to make sure, they dominate private clients institutional clients. Private clients now people can go to fidelity go to schwab they can say okay for ipo stuff i will stay with you for daytoday stuff going with a zero fees now they have the ability to do both. And i think it was a brilliant move because all all of a sudden clients, we talked about it fidelity doing trade i think smart gorman has done incredible job at Morgan Stanley. Maria you are right, you see fidelity at zero, you see vanguard schwab zero in terms of commissions, that was one of the impetuses catalyst that caused schwab to inquiry tdamerica trade legg mason acquired by franklin. People forget when running ubs we had largest private client business this the world when you all of a sudden do something daytoday commodity away from who you do Estate Planning with ipo stuff with all of a sudden you have another competitor that can come in, get a piece of the action. This is a way that they keep the stickiness get low hanging fruit then bigger stuff all you are going for now an after play makes sense. Maria price 13 billion dollars in stock you are right Morgan Stanley shares have been sky roekting. 40 use as currency knee funny money. We have got to steady about sin city showdown in las vegas last night Michael Bloomberg took stage for the first time you have not for evidence anybody have you donated you have donated to Biden Buttigieg klobuchar. And 10 others. So the pack, smart comment, one i call it the red wedding this was game of thrones wedding of debate i technique that from someone. Dagen a massacre surprise mess massacre. Bloomberg. Best part of bloombergs night 5 minutes before he got onstage stealing from a journalist he put out obama ad before it began, showed they friendship a lot of people are challenging i am shocked you and i have known mayor for 30plus years. And the one thing you think of mayor bloomberg is prepared. He was not prepared he walked in and froze the way i know he was illprepared the one thing he should have gone big time pivoted to is gun reform in las vegas they have largest massacre ever u. S. History gun reform he started every turn, did not bring it up. I didnt hear it once. Not once he was joe biden speak lot about gun reform when i look at it to look at thing i think warren had a great night why . She went oft bottom line bottom line hard put herself back in the limelight raised a lot of money after joe biden i thought winner of the night, the reason he was the winner, was two reasons look like adult onstage any time not target a good night for joe he can go back on offense i thought mayor pete had a good night him versus klobuchar for lane of pure moderates new faces, and klobuchar looked rattled mayor pete doing i thought bernie. Why did not she go after his record in south bend. I thought she was rattled surprising because she has been pretty good on debate stage that is how she jumped to New Hampshire i didnt think bernie had a good night in my opinion he didnt answer the medical exam he didnt answer you know taking away private insurance. And i think but the point he didnt get attacked so stays frontrunner gut tells me going into the nevada caucus the South Carolina, looks like bernie and joe biden will kind of kind of corral more votes right now. Another debate coming up. We have another debate it was. Dagen tuesday means this will mean big ratings next week. Good for all democrats potentially. It was you know, we spoke about that after the first decaying i think obama used the quote you know dont be a circular firing squad last night it was bullets going everywhere. Maria absolutely. Maria let me ask you, can Michael Bloomberg use obama in all those consumers the way without obama giving handshake blessing. He can. I know he can built has he asked obama no, i mean you know if he had obama wont even respond because if you look at commercials, it is not talking about you know when he did not subordinative obama in 08, did not support obama care talking about few is time together getting a lot of heat from obama people. Maria he is . I said that i cant imagine not saying hey what are you doing. Vanity fair did an article this morning gone kind of villager on the idea of i think dan pfeifer, obamas right hand guy came out clearly like that seems to be an intoing ad. Exactly great insights detail of the day and debate of the night. Well always good to be here you know, steve and i chatted about it yesterday, we said how do you think bloomberg is going you think going to be ready both of us were nervous i guess he was too. Goldman sachs meanwhile, warning clients about a possible correction tied to coronavirus saying investors are underestimating the health risks joining me former chairman. Federal reserve coauthor of the book capitalism in alan grs with me now dr. Greenspan great to see you this morning, thank you very much for being here. Can you aassess the state of the economy from where you sit given new worries about the coronavirus, uncertainty over election and, of course, if you look at the numbers, unemployment at 50year lows still how do you see things sir . Well, this is extraordinarily complex situation i guess the bottom line is as i said many times in the past youve got a very significant increase in entitlements, crowding out gross domestic savings has a Significant Impact on Capital Investment, on Capital Investment in turn is the crucial element in determining productivity. And product growth plus the number of people you have working gives you a best estimate of gdp. At this particular stage as ive said many occasions the issue of of the very significantly large amount of entitlement programs crowding out gross domestic savings, weve been doing this now for several years. Maria yeah. And it it is not been a easily solved situation. Go ahead. Maria well i want to get your take on this uncertainty surrounding this coronavirus i recognize, that it really is about the duration of this virus a true read how it might impact the economy but who is a your expectation in terms of how weak things might get because of china being basically you know dead in the water if you will for the First Quarter no activity you dont have planes in and out youve got businesses shut down you probably are not going the see a lot of Economic Activity in the First Quarter in china. Because of coronavirus what does that mean for the u. S. . Well i think the most reasonable expectation is not that it turns negative, but the growth rate is pretty much eliminated. It is more so in hong kong. But overall it is vast impact which is having remarkably heavy affect throughout many parts of the world. I have never seen overall economy of the world actually get impacted in this manner it doesnt show a very large number, but it is a couple of tenths Something Like that that is a very large change. So this is a very big deal. Fortunately it seems to be on its way out. But you know, we know so little about this that could come back with a roar to speak i think we have to be careful here to make sure it doesnt get too far out of hand. Everybody has everybodys forecast the moment optimistic in the sense they expect a rebound so china which is barely growing in the heighth of the crisis would go up fairly sharply. Picking up presumably, casual amount of stuff lost during the crisis i think we can assume the crisis is about to be over but it is devastating after affects are still going to be around for a while. Of the we have never seen anything like this, we have no no evidence to suggest what a beautiful the other side of the coin dr. Greenspan that is the something that youve spoken about a lot over the years, and that is the socalled wealth effect and youve got the stock market even though pulling back today, in unchartered territory pretty much. You have the dow the nasdaq the s p 500, all in very close to or in unchartered territory the nasdaq and s p hit records yesterday. And weve got this market up big this year , yeartodate as well as over the last year. What does that mean from your standpoint in terms of the wealth effect how that impacts Economic Growth . Just for the fact that people feel richer because 401 k is up. The crucial issue here is that we have analysts looking at these data, and what for example we see is because of the learning term outlook where productivity growth itself going to be slow and people are very much concerned, that coupled with the huge increase in people who are return putting significant pressure on people being able to buy assets they can create which are can use purchasing power that 10, 20 years out. The result of this has been a major change in the longterm Interest Rates for example 30year treasury, was he will yielding right now under 2 , 30 year. What um saying the fact is that people who are who are retired for first time in lives it is a huge number are beginning to start to get a looking for safe assets in the future, and that is driving prices of longterm bonds upwards and Interest Rates down. And one of the things that we use in forecasting the markets at s p 500 is instead of looking at price earnings ratios to look at earns price ratios the very significant increase longer term seats is having impact on essentially explaining why we have gotten this dramatic bull market in the last year or so right. In fact, vitiately all declines in earnings price is result of real interest declines. Maria do you expect any do you expect any reversal here administration came out with assessment rates will likely say 2 for 10 years do you buy into that . I would say that the price to earnings ratio is not significantly impacted by short term issues it is basically looking if i were getting to a point where the markets are adjusted. So i dont i am not looking for any significant change from lower i dont let me ask you about inflation, dr. Greenspan because the Producer Price index tame out yesterday was up half a percent. 5 10 of a percent the garages gain since 2018, yearoveryear up 2. 1 the most significant jump since may dr. Greenspan reef not seen a lot of inflation recently before this. But do these numbers trouble you . Maria, i think the history tells us when we are running federal deficits of the size that we are have been running recently with, and he projecting into the future it inevitably often with a long lag is depressed lower we are in early stages of prices beginning price change beginning to move higher, it is too soon to tell but unless you bring those extraordinary budget deficits under control history tells us this is going to be a much more rapid rate than weve seen. Fiscal policy so much 2020 campaign heating up many policies from Democratic Candidates deficits high what do you think about impact of the election should policies change . I know would you like to get your arms around the debt 22 trillion dollars in debt but largely entitlement programs. Are you hearing any of that in terms of growth of debt . Are you hearing any policies to change that from any of our candidates. Yeah, i am hearing a lot of proposals he on very results this is going to be a very significant problem in the sense that nobody wants to cut spending or raise taxes, but if you look at the data that essentially congressional budget office, there are very significant changes certainly the entitlement programs, as i discussed at some length in the book you very nicely sold for me. Absolutely. I the one i wrote jointly. O i remember you were telling be you wrote one book in the bathtub you always used to write in the bathtub did you do it again for this book. Yeah about it didnt have anybody in the bathtub with me. I didnt think you is to wonderful to see you this morning i so appreciate your time thank you so much sir. Pleasure to talk to you we see you tomorrow night on wall street dr. Greenspan special guest Maria Bartiromo wall street friday night joins us for in a studio b, Varney Company host Stuart Varney standing by preparing for his show what is on deck. We are going to be all over the debate no surprises there, occurs to me that you can buy polls, but you really cant buy a win in a debate situation. And these days, you got to be good on television, if you want to be the president of the United States. Last night, bloomberg was i think a disaster. If you are on tv, and you want to be president youve got to look like you are in command. That you are sharp, that you are firm. Bloomberg was anything but that. He looked very badly prepared unprepared to answer theely new were coming at him has to fire debate team for heavens sake they werent up to it he did not turn in a president ial performance my judgment he is done i dont think he can go further forward if you cant debate better than that you are going to be out here the winner i think was Bernie Sanders gives democrats a huge problem, they are not going to be led by a socialist by the looks of it moderate their vote split what a wonderful situation for republicans and President Trump.
