week, getting their chance to he response to the coronavirus outbreak. the shanghai composite losing almost 8%, worst trading day since 2015. tracee: let's take a look at how oil is moving this morning. you can see oil once again down, this after closing down by more than 1% on friday. 51, 42 a barrel. lauren: gas prices down 12 days in a row now. take a look at this, european investors showing a muted reaction to the coronavirus as well. i want to point attention to the ftse, it's down about 1%, it's the first trading day since brexit and prime minister boris johnson is expected to outline trade rules for great britain in about an hour. caucus day is today in iowa. 2020 democratic candidates are making their final pitches before iowans cast their first votes. tracee: griff jenkins is live in des moines. >> reporter: good morning. it's up to the iowa voters now. they'll gather at 7:00 p.m. local in some 1,691 precincts across the state and beyond. they'll first gather in the room for their first candidate choice. if that candidate doesn't meet a 15% threshold they have to make a second choice. the results will have three categories. there will be the first expression, final expression, and the state delegate ebbing vei--equivalency. we have seen bideen and sanders -- biden and sanders neck and neck in the most recent polls. buttigieg and warren have the most energy down here. we went to a warren event, she was high-fiving supporters. we talked to some of her supporters afterwards. here's what they had to say. >> i'm here supporting elizabeth warren. i'm doing that because of her plans around criminal justice reform. i'm a public defender. >> i'll be caucuses for warren. i love her energy. i love what she believes in. >> i'm caucuses for tom steyer. >> if he doesn't get the 15%, who is your second? >> elizabeth warren. >> i'm caucuses for amy klobuchar tomorrow. i think foreign policy is a very important thing. if she doesn't get 15% i will caucus for elizabeth warren. >> reporter: it's that second choice that could play a factor for a buttigieg or warren candidate. only time will tell. meanwhile, three senators, warren, sanders and klobuchar, won't be at their own victory parties tonight because they're back in washington on the impeachment trial. lauren, tracee. tracee: griff, thank you very much. lauren: the senate will hold closing arguments in the impeachment trial on capitol hill today. president trump is expected to be acquitted on wednesday. but as one investigation ends, republicans are gearing up to start their own investigation. tracee: david spunt is in washington, d.c. as the fight against president trump appears to be wrapping. >> reporter: good morning. the t senate will reconvene later this morning at 11:00 for closing arrestingments and both -- arguments and both legal teams have to do it in four hours. wednesday they will vote on the actual articles of impeachment. that's when the senators will declare guilty or not guilty. to remove the president on wednesday, 67 senators need to sign object. the math is not there for that to happen. meanwhile, the president is back at the white house this morning after arriving late last night after a weekend in florida. >> they don't care about fairness, they don't care about lying. look at the reports that were done that were so false. i think they just want to win. >> reporter: that's the president talking about democrats in that interview, even though the president is expecting an acquittal on wednesday, republicans won't forget what began the call for impeachment. they want to hear from the whistleblower. senator lindsey graham of south carolina says expect the senate intelligence committee to call the whistleblower in for questioning. >> we're going of to get to the bottom of this and i can prove that joe biden's efforts in the ukraine to root out corruption was undercut because he let his son sit on the board of the most corrupt company in the ukraine. >> reporter: democrats are not giving up, even if they don't convict president trump on wednesday, they r argue republicans who vote to acquit the president will have to answer for the rest of their careers. >> i'm not letting the senators off the hook. we're still going to go into the senate this week and make the case why this president needs to be removed. >> reporter: following those opening arguments, expect to hear senators on the floor speaking about the impeachment before that final vote on wednesday. lauren and tracee, back to you. lauren: thank you very much. coronavirus continues to spread. there are 362 confirmed deaths. 24 countries have confirmed cases of the virus with 11 confirmed cases here in the u.s. the latest numbers coming as secretary of state mike pompeo says americans who are stranded in the epicenter of the deadly outbreak will be brought home in the next few days. new offs travel restrictions are in effect including denying entry for any foreign national who visited china in the last 14 days. lauren: the u.s. will send aid to china. the story obviously affecting markets as well. the kansas city chiefs winning super bowl liv after one heck of a game. if you are a kansas city chiefs fan, the drought is over. lauren, you said it best, a 50 year drought. you could feel the chiefs, just their emotions last night. they were the fans that were represented. it was literally 3-1, chiefs fans versus san francisco. patrick mahomes is the youngest mvp in nfl history. he threw two touchdowns at the end of the game. it looked like the san francisco 49ers were going to be the big winners. the on-field celebration was amazing. there were other great moments as well. we have to talk about the triumphant return of demi lovato. she came in to sing the national anthem, not dry eye in the house. her voice sounded amazing. it rever reverb reverbateed thre stadium. you have to give a shoutout to j-lo. she wronged the half time show. she had a companion in shakira who delivered a strong performance. the ladies finished out the half time show together. it really was, again, on social media if you look at the things trending this morning, the half time show was a big hit. of stole the show, especially on sociasocial media, also on the u commercial. he said, i'm sticking around and he's got hulu to thank for that. lauren and warren and bernie sanders spent their last day campaigning in iowa yesterday, pushing towards those economic reforms that they've promised on the campaign trail. >> so tomorrow night is the beginning. it is the beginning of the end for donald trump. [ cheering and applause ] >> it is the beginning of the moment when we tell the billionaire class and the 1%, this country belongs to all of us, not just a few. [ cheering and applause ] >> that's what's taking the legs out from underneath our economy. we have to change this. we need a different approach to our economy. >> reporter: a ubs analyst wrote that every 10 point rise that sanders or warren gets in the polls could point to a 1% decline in the s&p 500, but found that a moderate democrat like mayor pete buttigieg might have a positive impact on that index while they say joe biden didn't show any material impact on they that at all. lauren and tracee. lauren: hillary vaughn, thank you very much. let's discuss more on how these results could impact your money. david nelson, chief strategist with bell point asset management is here. david, good morning. >> good morning. lauren: there's a good chance that bernie sanders has the edge here and if you look at the closing arguments in iowa, that bernie sanders made, we're going to disrupt everything and then the other progressive, elizabeth warren, her closing pitch was a little different she's saying i'm going to unite the democratic party, that's what she said in iowa. how are you gaming this for investors? >> the word socialism doesn't play all that well in wall street. investors will be watching this. there's a reason why the united states has been a leader -- a an industrial leader and technology powerhouse, it's called the profit incentive. without it, your iphone would be the size of the brick. most of the world's molecules for medicine are produced right here. what would innovation look like without a profit incentive? if it pushes hard to the left i would expect volatility to be higher, especially the sector level. hillary pointed out the likely suspects, technology, healthcare and financials could easily be hit pretty hard. if it's a centrist, a biden, a buttigieg, i would expect the market stocks to follow earnings and the economy in that order. lauren: it's amazing, as we watch what happens today and of course leading up to super tuesday. coronavirus, this is obviously shaking investors. are we underestimating here? because we didn't expect it to be this bad and the number of cases continues to grow and the market continues to falls. >> the numbers are bigger so far than they were, maybe the best comparable is the sars virus in 2003. lauren: do you think it's a fair comparison? >> i think it's a reasonable a s a reasonable comparison. with 360 deaths around the world, it's about 2%. let's hope that holds. there's good news in the united states, it's barely been reported by scientists announced they have a clinical trial that they're doing with the chinese authorities regarding a cure for the disease and a lot of medical companies in the united states are working on a vaccine. so right now companies in china are choosing the nuclear option. any u.s. company with a footprint there is shutting in capacity. apple announced they're closing all their stores and even their corporate offices. lauren: we hope the virus is short-lived. but we don't know that. finally, google will report after the bell today. do they go in the way of amazon and apple and microsoft or more like a facebook? >> i'm holding my breath just like everybody else. let's hope they have a good number, 46 billion is what they're looking for on consensus, about 8.9 billion on operating income. pretty reasonably valued considering its growth rate. lauren: maybe we'll see more transparency now that pichai -- tracee: changing char jeers-car chargers, if one law is successful you won't have to worry about having the right cable. lauren: voter tampering, a major issue as voting season kicks off. what are officials doing to prevent it? do you think this is an over-action? >> i -- over-reaction. >> i completely disagree with the chinese. i think this is a global pandemic and will be a big problem. the issue with the coronavirus is it has a very high transmission rate but a very high incubation time and what that means is, you may carry this thing around for 14 days and you don't know you have it. so in the meanwhile, you're going of to give it to a lot of people. and that's why i think it could be a real problem for americans. now, yes, there have been 17,000 cases reported, mostly in wuhan city in china. but we're thinking that it's about 100,000. and i just -- i completely disagree with the chinese and, frankly, i think the u.s. government should sanction china because they knew about this from the end of december when an ophthalmologist saw a patient with a case and they showed you up at his doorstep and told him not to tell anybody and that's a real problem. tracee: we have 24 countries that have been impacted by this, 11 cases here in the united states and the most recent one that we just saw in california. husband returned from the area, gave the virus to his wife. how can we really protect ourselves. as you said, transmission is very easy. >> well, that's a great question, tracee. there are a couple things you can do. the first thing is hand hygiene, wash your hands a lot. this is transmitted by bodily fluids, bilets by droplets froe ground. people can transmit this disease within about six feet of one another. if someone is coughing, encourage them to cover their mouth, their nose, wear a mask if you can if you're sick. they're saying that the mortality rate is about 3%. so three in 100 folks who get this could die. usually that's people who are older or sicker, younger children, babies. so especially people who are immunosuppressed or have weak immune systems really need to the take precautions. that's the target of this disease and the people who can really pass away or die from. tracee: i want to ask you quickly about this study from the commonwealth had fund, it came out and said americans spend far more than people in other countries for healthcare but it's not helping them live longerrer. we pay more than people in canada, australia, the u.k. why do you think that is? >> well, i'm one of those iowa late deciders. my wife and i are going to be talking before we go into the caucus base and we'll have a good conversation with our neighbors before we decide. lauren: it seems bernie sanders has a bit of an edge as we head into this very important day where you are. what would a bernie sanders presidency mean for you? >> well, i think senator sanders along with all the democratic candidates have tried to focus on farm issues quite exclusively because so many things are happening in the farm economy that have really put farmers in a tough spot. so they've been addressing issues of trade, renewable fuels and the general farm economy. farmers are really having a tough time, tightening their belt, trying to make ends meet. lauren: sounds like you're turning your back on bernie sanders. >> oh, no. i'm not. i'm pleased that all the candidates have devoted so much time to reaching out to farmers and reaching to all parts of the state, not just the highly populated parts of the state and they've dedicated a lot -- lauren: what about president trump? >> sure. well, we know that president trump has a lot of support in iowa, but these policies, trade and renewable fuels, they've been very, very challenging for iowa farmers. so iowa farmers are very open-minded to policies that are going to work, that bring benefits all the way back to the farm. so i think iowa farmers are going to be very open-minded about what's going to work best for them. lauren: do things feel a little haywire to you, the gold star poll, the des moines register poll was apparently contaminated and canceled, we don't have those results. there are other instances of things being a little off or different this year. would you agree? [ fast-paced drumming ] lauren: super bowl creating some viral moments that have taken social media by storm. tracee: cheryl casone is live at hard rock stadium in my am a my. good morning, cheryl. cheryl: you've got to love the internet, guys. lism going to get to that story in a moment. let's talk about the big win for the kansas city chiefs at hard rock stadium in miami. the 50 year drought is over for the team. patrick mahomes is the youngest mvp in super bowl had history, really in nfl history. fourth quarter, couple of touchdowns that mahomes threw and that was it. it looked like it would be 9ers victory. that was not to be so. you had the big on-field celebration after. of obviously the half time show is trending this morning, shakira and j-lo. i loved it. it was so much fun. really, the reaction this morning to that performance has been off the charts because it was so flawless. it was really a show. you wanted to see that show. and no offense to, like, you know, justin timberlake or maroon 5, but i've got to say, last night was a big half time hit. let's talk about something else, the nfl 100, the 100 year anniversary, every football great you could imagine has been in town over the last four days, from joe namath to roger staubach. the commercial that they did and produced which they spent millions on, it ended with the actual boy that started the commercial coming out onto the field, big reaction from the fans, big reaction in the stadium to that and finally, they're calling it the most expensive nap in super bowl history. a video of a guy napping during the first quarter of the super bowl has gone viral. remember, these average ticket prices, $6,982. and the best part was that it went viral people like mark wallburg and his company chimed in, give that guy a coca-cola. coca-cola responded and said yeah, we're on it. finally, ladies, sleep numbers said even we agree this was not the time to be sleeping especially because it's only the first quarter of the super bowl. it was just hysterical last night. had to give you that. lauren: i can't wait for that man to actually say something. tracee: tell us what happened. maybe his team was losing. lauren: cheryl, go find him. get an interview. cheryl: yeah, i know. he's probably awake now. lauren: let's hope so. tracee: thanks, cheryl. democrats spent this weekend making last ditch efforts to win over supporters in iowa and the back and forth between president trump and democratic rival bloomberg takes a new turn. here to dive into these topics is rul r after afte raul and he. what do caucus goers need to hear from these candidates? do they want to hear more about how they're going to beat president trump or what they're going to do as president if they win? >> i think telling them that they are the candidate to beat president trump is definitely the right way to go. some people are so tired of just how the last three years have gone, they want to get behind someone who is going to win. so whoever that might be i think is the person that they will rally behind. but on the other hand, they're thinking this might be bernie sanders, which is surprising to many people as well. they would think it would be a more moderate candidate like biden but sanders is ahead in the polls. lauren.tracee: looking at howe things are. what are your predictions here? >> i've worked in a number of iowa caucuss in the past so i know that the voters are very sophisticated. they will take their time, up until the point where they have to decide at the caucus. i think vice president biden's going to do very well, if i know the voters there in iowa. they seem to be a little bit more mid-road. and i think he's going to do well but i think it might be a tight race and it will be interesting to see what happens at at the end of the. tracee:.tracee: do you think ae drops out after iowa? >> i don't know. i think they may stay in. the top four i think will continue to stay in, although i do see elizabeth warren continuing to drop. but i don't think she'll get out yet. i don't think she has that type of vibe with the iowa people. i'm from iowa. i was born and raised there. i don't see her connecting with the people quite as much. tracee: i have to ask you about this escalation between president trump and bloomberg. what do you make of this?
