Funeral for general soleimani, of course, killed during drone strike as we are hearing fresh threats to set u. S. Facilities on fire bringing death to israel and officially, official designate the u. S. Military a terrorist force, the administration is defending the air strikes that killed soleimani this morning claiming hes responsible for leading operations in iraq that killed 600 service members, rob, thank you very much for your service in the country, your reaction to that all of this . I think we are getting away from the fact that soleimani was found in baghdad which could have become another benghazi but thank god because the appropriate response went in. This was not an act of war, killing was a strong and appropriate response, so this attack on the american soldiers has been happening overseas for a while now, i think the response is strong and i think also when we see all of the crowds gathering to mourn soleimani, a lot of people are pretending that they are there by force. So i think it is this a good point. Maria some people say look at the people, if you dont come out you will get killed. Jon they were protesting the iranian government, clearly hard to read the pictures of whats going on in iran and the streets, one of the things that im focused on today is whats the next step for the u. S. , you know, we clearly had symbolic victory in taking down soleimani but strategically where do we stand in iraq, are we at risk to having pulled troops out there if iraqis renege on agreement to have them there on the first place. Dagen the vote in Iraqs Parliament was symbolic, that it was the sunni, iraqis and others that didnt show up to vote, number 1, but President Trump and his administration is in a precarious situation where they could make a mistake, just yesterday there was a draft letter that was released by a u. S. General that was circulating that appeared to respond to iraqs request to withdraw u. S. Troops and then the joint chief of staff mark milley, the general, the letter had sent to iraqi official and it was honest mistake. He needs to be careful in managing the consequences that if events spin in dangerous ways, such the u. S. Leave iraq, mr. Trump will not blame anybody else, he should reassuring iraq that the u. S. Is there to preserve sovereignty, not to exploit it, again, avoid behavior and tweets in this environment after what was a justified takeout of a terrorist i think i want to push back what you said before on the idea that we are in daughter of pulling out of iraq, we have been trying to exit the quagmire for a really long time and i think this could be something that pushes us forward, and, again, the release of that letter saying we will withdraw from iraq was a hot mess, to put it lightly, im not entirely sure what the story behind was but not good look at all. Jon if we pull out are we handing iranians victory because they are going to fill the void maria only way troops are pulling out if iraq pays us for air base and gives us billions for all of the time defending them, right, do you think the president will pull troops out . Its hard to know. Its really hard to know. Pulled away from the border of turkey with little notice, like dagen, its hard to know what kind of behavior it is, but, you know, somebody who served and talks to the people i serve with and people that are serving overseas right now theres idea of endless war, at what point is it ever a good point to escape to pull out of iraq, is it now 15 years, 20 years, we are going on the 17th anniversary of the invasion of iraq this year. I remember because i was there, i dont think people realize how long we have been there and whats the exit strategy going to be. Dagen theres no exit right now, the plans outlined by the pentagon called 200 members from the 173 brigade. Maria are you surprised that the markets are not reacting to this at all . Complete turn around yesterday, markets ended up, this morning we got a fractional gain, investors shaking off the concerns, we are looking at a gain of 40 points right out of the gate, jon. Jon the other key strategic area in the world is texas, permian basin, its amazing how we can have all of the conflict the middle east, the risk of potentially attacks in the strait of hormuz and oil prices 730 a barrel, and if this happened 10, 15 years ago we see oil easily 100. Dagen not even 15, 20, less than that because President Trumps position and policy on Energy Production in this country has taken us because of private industry because of the shell boom but because policies taken us to number world oil producer, we are now not just a number 1 producer but the swing producer, we control market supplies and prices, we are very close to becoming a sustained netoil exporter as soon as sometime this year. Jon if prices do go up and we see more conflict in middle east that gives incentive to drillers in the United States to drill more oil so actually becomes a win for production. Dagen you might see higher prices we control our own destiny. We control our oil supplies and security, we are pushing back on nations that hate us, i talked about it for 2 years. Maria sanctions on iran and what has done to their economy in terms of their ability to sell oil to anybody, the sanctions out there in terms of sanctioning europe, sanctions companies doing business with iran obviously is working. Lets get onto former nissan head carlos goshn, yesterday i reported that he told me that he has evidence of a coup, a coup out to get him, he said hes going to be naming names at the News Conference tomorrow, he will reveal those people he says were behind the charges of wrongdoing at nissan, goshn he said it came because he we wanted to personal, you know that, ive said that 3 years, about a year since he was taking in, japan was looking to have goshn legally return today japan to face trial also issuing arrest for carol goshn and she was on the program a couple of months ago when she told us that japanese prosecutors would not allow her to speak to her husband. That was one of the issues, he was allowed to see cousins, daughter, son, but if he spoke to his wife, she would tamper evidence. Arrest warrant out for her. I spoke with them both this week, i spoke to him for about an hour and her she said shes very happy, they are happy to be together, he said hes not evading justice, he is leaving an unjust situation, he and she as well do not think he will get a fair trial. Dagen hes safe in lebanon for the time being but what about the security that would be surrounding him for fear that he would be somebody would kidnap him and try to send him back to japan . Maria i think thats a good point and judge napolitano brought it open, look, he has to watch his back because anybody might want to kidnap him and bring him back to japan. Hes using the opportunity to whale against japanese, he said they held him hostage and High Conviction rate as well. Hes going use journalists in press to make him rate. Maria 99. 9 , its absurd to me, how can you think that you are a safe and fair situation if 99. 9 of the people that you have charges against are convicted. Seems shady too me. Jon this has been a fascinating story, maria, youve been all over it from the beginning and dagen from the first moment. Jon has been all over it too, weve had great stories. Maria you have. I know carlos goshn very well and i knew that he was facing pressure from within, so right off the bat, i knew this is a coup, look, i believe him, we will see, there were other charges that came out, i dont know what happened in terms of financial wrongdoing but i know that the japanese government and many inside of nissan who were against merging. Dagen headline no due process for nonjapanese in japan, theres no due process, right or wrong, this was a huge shock to people in other nations that this is how people are treated in the judicial system in japan. Maria yeah, you didnt realize that, you didnt understand and one thing that he said when i spoke to him this week, i made a real misjudgment when i thought i could hand over power to successor, ceo, and i could stick around, if you give up power in japan, he said, you need to get out of the way because youre in a dangerous situation if you think youre going to have somebody else running the company but youre going to be there in a support system and your ideas are known because its all on you, look, we will see what he says tomorrow, he told me yesterday that hes going to have evidence, documents that show this this was a coup, we will have that for you when he has the press conference in fox business. Meanwhile this, made in china, Tesla Ceo Elon musk at new shanghai plant, look at musk, so excited about that, busting out a move during ceremony. [laughter] maria multibillion dollar plan, First Factory outside of the United States and cut prices on its cars there, tesla shares are higher on premarket on this entrance into china. Thoughts . Pretty good moves by the way that was my first thought. Dagen worst than any like past, you know, intoxicated wedding gift ive ever seen number 1, number 2, you know what i have my eye on, the new ford all electric the mustang, its on display, its coming out later this year, the initial order completely sold out, it is hot and all electric, its a plugin and the ford dealers in the country are getting ready to call it tesla killer. Jon its fascinating on so many levels, the first question i have for tesla, what technology are they handing over to do this . In the middle of trade confrontation maria glad you brought this up. Look at all the dance moves and how excited he is about getting into china, lets talk about china is doing. What theyre doing to steal, we know that the major issue in terms of the theft of intellectual property. Jon remember that dance video. Maria welcome back, dozens arrested in connection with the fires ravaging australia, good morning, cheryl. Cheryl 24 people have been arrested in australia accused of deliberately setting fire there, meanwhile much needed rain is hitting sidney today but hot windy conditions expect today return this week as temperatures go up again, with these wild fires still burning out of control across the country, fire officials are warning flames can merge and form mega blaze, 25 are dead, 200 homes destroyed, half a billion animals have been killed so far by the fires, cost of 737 max crisis is still hitting boeing, reached financial settlement with American Airlines for damages the airline has faced faced wite jets still grounded, terms of the deal not disclose but American Airlines said it will share 35 million of settlement of boeing with their own employees and spacex kicking off the new year with recordbreaking launch, 60 internet satellites sitting in falcon night, first launch under President Trumps new u. On the boeing story, one thing we havent talked about employees that are affected. So a lot of the employees have been going to airlines and saying we want to be compensated and i think thats a piece of the boeing story thats important. Maria thats shoe, thats true, no one is talking about that. Destruction in puerto rico, series of powerful earthquakes there, we will speak with one illinois Marijuana Dispensary and owner after the state legalized recreational pot, we are back after the break. Maria welcome back, firmer tones, markets recover from early losses yesterday, losses first stem, of course from the tensions with iran, but markets tumble over the past few days falling the assassination of iranian general Qassem Soleimani, thank you so much for joining us. First explain what was going on yesterday with markets really seeing what was what had taken place in iran and little by little reversing course and markets were up, is this a factor for the markets or not . Well, yesterdays move reflects the strong appetite for stocks, look after virtually uninterrupted Fourth Quarter of gains and a new year, we thought maybe wed see people taking money off the table and iranian crisis, the iranian event gave us a great opportunity if investors wanted to sell down this market but after a day and a half investors came back in and that is an incredible by bullish sign. Maria when you have a backdrop of unemployment 50year low, doorstep on the fourthquarter earning season and i guess at the end of the day if this iran conflict doesnt impact guidance, uncertainty on the part of ceos and impact earnings, markets are not going to care, dagen. Dagen i think its a grade mechanism, somebody said privately, this came out of nowhere, how did this happen . Yes, the killing of soleimani was a shock but the provocations out of iran, they are not new, u. S. Drone was shot down, there was attack on Saudi Oil Facility that knocked out what it was 5 of Global Supply for a short period of time, 11 attacked by iranianbacked militias and killing from a contractor from the u. S. And attack on the u. S. Embassy, so this didnt come out of nowhere. 40 years and 40 years of payoff from iran, so 608 just in iraq alone and since the conflict started back in 2003, so, again, this is what the market has been watching, we know that oil, because oil is back to where it was to saudi arabia attack so investors have been paying attention to this when a lot of people have not been. Jon i think they need to look at the backdrop when you put iranian conflict aside, unlike to raise this year, we have unemployment very low, we have trade tensions starting to ease a little bit, i guess my question for markets, what was your strategy given what looked like a bullish backdrop for the market going into 2020, has anything changed about that strategy, given the events that we have seen in the last few days. When you have accommodative fed like this and the oil scare is nothing but an oil scare, higher oil prices, you will see more production come on line and keep a lid on that and if we do in unlikely event have oil going up in a range the u. S. Produces over 13 millionbarrels a day, thats a net positive for u. S. Equities, short of this really spreading we think that the investment thesis remains in tack, we will look at a lot of u. S. Growth relatively to overseas, we would like to start putting money overseas because of the relative valuations and the economy is strong, we heard maria mention strong consumer data and thats not changing, we have debt levels very low but more importantly theres optimism and when consumers have optimism they spend and the behavior is whats going to drive this economy right through the election and throughout 2020. Maria what do you think of gold up 7 in a month, rising as safe haven asset, up nearly 1,600 per ounce, highest level since 2013 and 7 mark, would you buy in here. I was looking at that, do you think theres inflation, i think gold is moving ahead of itself unless you believe theres inflation thesis, we dont see that in 2020. That could be some wage push inflation if we reduce the globalization we bring more manufacturing home from the trade deals, that could raise the cost of production so theres hints of inflationary pressures but not this year, i think gold has moved ahead of itself and we are not really big on it. Maria all right, we will be watching that. Mark, good to see you this morning, thank you so much. Impossible foods crossing over into new varieties which restaurant chains are getting on board, we will tell you all about it, celebs to the rescue, andrew cuomo and shaq both at the right place at the right time, wait till you hear this. Do you recall, not long ago we would walk on the sidewalk all around the wind blows we would only hold on to let go blow a kiss into the sun we need someone to lean on blow a kiss into the sun we needed somebody to lean on all we need is someone to lean on wean air force veteran made of doing whats right,. Usaa insurance is made just the way martins family needs it with hasslefree claims, he got paid before his neighbor even got started. Because doing right by our members, thats whats right. Usaa. What youre made of, were made for. Usaa maria welcome back top story this half an hour, heightening tensions in iran, 35 people are dead this morning after a stampede at the Funeral Service for iranian general solemani today coming as iran making more threats against the United States this morning, iranian government moving to officially designate the u. S. Military as a terrorist force they say, quote, unquote, the revolutionary guard leader making threats to set a blaze places that the u. S. Supports sparking chants death to israel, President Trump spoke out in radio interview yesterday defending decision to take out soleimani. This should have been done the last 15 or 2 years, hes responsible for the ieds, the roadside bombs and bombs that blow up all over the place, hes responsible for all those incredible young people over at walter reed where they do such a great job by the way and they lose their arms and legal conclusions, that he gave so much of that technology, much of that stuff was made in iran and he should have been taken out a long time ago and we had a shot at it and we took him out. Maria joining me right now retired four star general jack keane, general, pleasure to see you, thank you so much for being here. Good to see you, maria. Maria you have a lot of experience in terms of seeing the rain of terror of soleimani, give us your sense and reaction to this . First of all, i think it was completely justified, the president s duty to protect citizens, two government officials called me after attack thursday evening and assured me that they had intelligence that attack was eminent on multiple targets on multiple locations, the choice was can we disrupt that, can we prevent it from happening, they concluded conclt the best way to deal with that reality yous to attack those who were directing and planning that attack and at the top of that was soleimani and i think its completely justified and has a legal basis for doing it but more importantly has a moral basis for doing it in my judgment. Maria yeah, i think its really incredible that just within the last month, general, we have been talking about the president saying we want to end the endless wars, we want to pull troops out of afghanistan and yet now we know that trust military is sending at least 3,000 troops to the region to defend against the iranian threats, the pentagon sent a message to iran lining up over 52 bombers at air force base in utah, this coming as defense secretary mark esper spoke out over retaliation plans, despite Iraqi Parliament voted to expel u. S. Troops from the country there are no plans to leave the region, and also dismissed reports on striking cultural sites, general, do you think u. S. Troops could be forced out . Well, i think whats going on in iraq, hezbollah, iraqi shiites, dealing with the United States staying or leaving that doesnt represent the will of the large majority of the people in iraq, the sunnis and kurds did not attend the extraordinary session as they describe and demonstrated by the hundreds of thousands against iraqi regime and against iranian supporters, so much so that soleimani ordered his proxies to fire on those demonstrators killing over 300 of them but they kept coming back. I think theres we have a ways to go, maria, council of representatives, parliament have election coming and i think that election will produce a more representative body in terms of the iraqi peoples will on this issue and other things, they want political and economic reform and get rid of the corruption and get rid of the iranians, they dont want to get rid of the americans. Maria well, i didnt think so but the fact that iran is trying to take over iraq and has been for so long, i was looking at that saying, well, this is iran speaking not necessarily iraq but lets talk about this potential retaliation because a lot of people are talking about cyber threat, the department of Homeland Security is warning u. S. Companies to consider the possibility of a cyberattack by iran as a result of the killing of soleimani, iran has history of such attacks, back in 2015 they were behind attack on billionaire sheldon and, general, your personal experience when it comes to iranian hacking, tell me what happened after you were basically calling for soleimani to be targeted in house congressional testimony that was back in 2011, what happened and then what happened to you after you called for soleimani to be taken down . Well, we didnt target them but they targeted me and they tried to interfere with my International Travel, that didnt work. Maria at a congressional testimony you said what . I told them that we should target, i layed out the history and blood that Qassem Soleimani had and conclude that we should target him, absolute justification just as we are targeting Osama Bin Laden and the alqaeda and president bush in 2007 four years prior had declared him as terrorist, u. S. Had sanctioned his travel and i thought it was appropriate not just to designate and sanction him but to target him as well, so they came after me in terms of International Travel and penetrated all my email accounts, the fbi was the ones who brought this to my attention and i said, what are they doing there, and they are trying to find something to compromise you and exploit you and cause Reputational Risk to you but theres nothing there, so, but anyway, i dont want to traumatize what they are doing to me too much but the reality is i agree with the president , this should have been done a long time ago. Maria yeah, do you expect retaliatory move, would it be a bold attack on our military sites, would it be cyber, what are you expecting . My sense, maria, is yes, cyber will probably be the biggest thing they do in terms of how comprehensive it is but in terms of a major attack against u. S. Forces or troops, im not convinced thats going to happen and and the reason is the supreme leader, hes rocked by what has happened here, hes had a 20year relationship with soleimani, its a professional one and also personal one and i think the president has absolute leverage now particularly because he had so much restraints for year given all the iranians provocations and he didnt get involved and responded until americans were at risk, so i think theres an opportunity to reach out to see if we can put together negotiating trade that would make sense to them and start dealing on the objective here which was always to bring them back into negotiations. There may be an opportunity here is what im suggesting. They have a choice, the americans are serious, they are going to take out whoever they think is behind any attacks or, you know, maybe we should work with them, lets two to the negotiating table or theyll say, well, we are upset by this and we will get them back, to this can go either way, youre right, general, we will see. On the heels of the attack i was told by senior government official, they reached out to the regime and told them one, we dont want to go to war with you, this was right after the attack. Maria right. They dont want regime change, the third thing im suggesting is lets see if theyre willing to talk. Maria lets see we will give it the time to watch, general, thank you so much, we will be talking to you along, general jack keane joining us there, facebook is fighting back against deepfake videos, Cheryl Casone on highlights. Cheryl facebook will ban users from putting doctored videos ahead of 2020 election, remove content with misleading videos that are created by algorithm, policy does not include content but coming after altered video that went viral appeared to show House Speaker nancy pelosi and that was a fake video, trying to deal with it now, Mother Nature toppling a natural wonder in puerto rico, island hit with 5. 8 magnitude earthquake yesterday, by the way another one this morning, this one yesterday damaged homes, brought down a famous rock formation known as Punta Ventana and it was a popular spot for photos for tourists to go to. Finally, maria, back here in new york it was andrew cuomo to the rescue, new yorks motorcade stopped in pileup, you can see lifting a passenger, helping out from the van, so look at this, hes actually helping people out, raising spirits versus raising our taxes, maria. I have one more. Shaquil oneil, i knew you were going to Say Something about that, Shaquil Oneil also in the right place at the right time and he jumps out to help, helping stop traffic, waiting for ambulance to arrive at the scene. [laughter] maria all right. Yeah. Cheryl you have to show him in other light. Maria absolutely, Ricky Gervais response to critics, making a buzz this morning, we have that buzz, it is not over yet, we will talk to one marijuana shop owner about supply and demand, stay with us. whistling whistling whwhat do you see . He world, we see patterns. Relationships. When you use location technology, you can see where things happen, before they happen. With esri location technology, you can see what others cant. Ahhh vaporize sore throat pain with Vicks Vapocool drops and try new vapocool spray. Maria welcome back, the big business of marijuana, illinois the 11th state to legalize recreational weed with the state bringing in nearly 3. 2 million in sales on the first day. Demand was so high that some shops actually have run out of the product for recreational customers, joining us right now from chicago, owner of midway dispensary, craig custer, thank you very much for joining us, first assess the situation for us, what do you see in terms of demand out there for Recreational Marijuana in illinois . Well, hi, maria, nice to talk to you, yeah, the demand is there, we are catching up, the whole industry in illinois has been expanding, you know, we all started about 6 months ago and we knew this was coming but its just taken a little time to get there, i think we are a couple of months, 3 or 4 months away from being able to satisfy all demand but we will do the best we can until then. Maria where is the product coming from and and what about, you know, banking, you know, giving the fact that there are 11 states that have, you know, legalized recreational pot but on a federal level it is still illegal, so tell us the challenges that you face in terms of operating a business where youre legal in your state but not on a federal level, how do you do banking . Thank god. About august we got a bank, it is federally legal, nothing can cross state lines, we can only buy supply from illinois cultivators, it would be great if the feds would step in and do something about it. If youve paying attention at all you know theres medical benefits to it. That would change the banking rules, that would open up interstate commerce, it would do a lot of things. Maria what are the medical benefits . We have seen it with cancer patients, helps them through chemo. Dagen youre selling to everybody, what are the benefits to 21yearold with a job . [laughter] i mean, it does a lot of different things, you know, i cant speak, it helps anxiety, it helps our vets, we have a ton of vet patients and i think if people could see what really happens inside the dispensary and how it changes peoples lives it would change stigma. We have a vet onset. I just think theres a move towards making, you know, making it seem like weed is not this bad thing to society and i wanted to know do you have people pushing back to do idea locally, teens and young people doing marijuana isnt the best thing in the world . Education is really important, we dont want it in the kids, we do spend a lot of time on that, as far as pushback, we have seen very little, we really dont, our neighbors have been great. We are trying to be good, positive part of our community and we dont see a lot of pushbacks. What i will concede that there are vets that struggle with ptsd that told me weed helps them. Maria former nfl great, he would prefer giving players weed instead of opioids which they are getting addicted to in terms of pain medication. Dagen cancer patient who is are going through chemotherapy and experiencing nausea that their applications for use of marijuana but this is Recreational Use of marijuana and i think that we have yet to answer the benefits to an entire community or a society because this is a money grab by the hardhit states. Jon i think what really worries a lot of people is that this is going to get into the hands of our children, the question for you, what are you doing to ensure that doesnt happen, how are you getting, keeping this out of those High School Kids hands. Maria you said it yourself you dont want gets to get exposed. Absolutely, childproof containers, you know, education is and education on a a a National Level because there are so many unknowns. We have so many people coming in from the novelty, they want to see. Maria from your perspective, you ran out of marijuana, is that right, from the legalization day, now you are out of the product . No, we shut down, we are still serving our medical patients, we prioritize medical patients, we will be back friday with rec. Maria craig, thank you very much for joining us. Thank you. European indices are fixed with the fq100 down 36, cac in paris up 23, dax in germany up 122 points, that is almost 1 . In asia overnight, green across the board, take a look. Taking a cue from wall street. Nikkei average up 1 and two thirds percent. All those stories coming up this tuesday morning. Joining me to break it down, rob smith is here. Fox business, Dagen Mcdowell, and Senior Writer john hilsenrath. Great to see everybody this morning. Great to be here. Dagen we were arguing about plantbased food. Plant based food, the hooters, all right. I want to get back to the conversation we were having about iraq and the american presence in iraq. We were talking about the discussion about whether the u. S. Is going to be asked to leave and you were saying weve been there for so long. But is it in americas interest and is it in the middle easts interest to have a u. S. Presence pulled back when the last time we pulled back it gave root to isis. If we pull back now, it could end up being a victory for iran. The thing about it is isis is, thank god, in much, much, worse shape if not completely owobliterated. Only because we wept bac wek in. How long will we stay in will we stay forever . Will this be an indefinite war, an indefinite presence in iraq. 17 years since the invasion of iraq, i know because i was there, soldiers that are there want to know theyre doing a good job, that theyre there for a reason and i think that it comes a certain time and were at that point in time when we have to realize that we need to seriously talk about scaling down our presence there. We still have a military presence in japan, we still have a military presence in korea, still have a l military base in germany. Not at the level we do in iraq. But were still there. And thats what it takes to stabilize this part of the world. I believe we need to stay there. I believe we will have a presence in iraq probably indefinitely. Does it need to be the presence that it is now at that level . No, it does not. We also need to start letting these iraqi soldiers and these iraqi people do the job to protect themselves. Maria what was the he reception that you first felt when you the first got there . You were based in kurkuc. You flew into kuwait, come i convoyed through baghdad. At first the reception we were greeted as liberator as first. The longer we were there, the more resentful people were of us. And then thats when the insurgency started. A lot of times i saw combat when i was overseas, this was about insurgeons, this was about insurgeonsin. Our troops are in f militias that are riled up like they attacked the u. S. Embassy. Maria well talk more about your presence there. This is our top story this hour, mounting tensions in the middle east. Iran state television is reporting that at least 40 people were killed and hundreds others injured after a stampede erupted at the fine l rail servic fine lrail service rail service for qasem soleimani. It was caused by overcrowding. There is no indication of an attack on the funeral, forcing officials to postpone the ceremony. It comes amid fresh threats from iran who is warning it will, quote, set ablaze u. S. Backed places. House democrats are aiming to limit the president s military action in iran, gearing up to vote on a war power resolution. The president is Standing Firm in his administrations action in iran, doubling down on the u. S. Air strikes that killed sole masoleimani. This should have been done for the last 15 to 20 years. He is responsible for the ieds, those are the roadside bombs and bombs that he blow up all over the place. Hes responsible for all those incredible young people over at walter reed where they do such a great job, by the way and where they lose their arms and their legs. He gave so much of that technology, much of that stuff was made in iran. And he should have been taken out a long time ago and we had a shot at a it and we took him out. Maria joining me right now is tennessee senator, sitting on the judiciary and Armed Services committee, Marsha Blackburn many thank you for joining us. What about this resolution that nancy pelosi is pushing forward to limit the president s power and of course about the new threats coming out of iran . Tell us how you see the most recent developments, latest. I will. With the resolution, i think this is something we should have expected from nancy pelosi. It is something that theyre going to push forward on. They do not like anything that donald trump does. So this makes kind of sense for them to do this. Also, it helps them to divert attention from talking about impeachment and why theyre not sending the impeachment articles over to the senate, why theyre sitting on them after they had said this is so urgent, we have to do it now, we have to rush the process. And then theyre totally quiet. Its crickets. So i would have expected that. When you hear these threats coming from iran, and the bluster and the talk that is there, i think what we have to realize is sole ma soleimani war mastermind. For two decades, he pushed forward, built the quds force, had 20 you thousan 20,000 peopl. He has a finance unit, political unit. He had been responsible for killing hundreds of americans, 603, from 03 to 11. He was in iraq to work with his number two, and they were working on the protests that had taken place at the embassy. We knew that they were there to attack our diplomats. They harass our diplomats. They humiliate our soldiers. They kill our maria is there any way Nancy Pelosis resolution will in fact limit the president s powers . I dont think that of course, under the war powers act you have those actions that go back into what happened with the vietnam war, maria. But i think what she is doing, this is a messaging bill for her. She needs a diversion, because they are not sending those impeachment articles. So this is her diversion. But i have talked to so many people that are veterans, that are in military service, people at Fort Campbell there in tennessee, who have served. My staff who have served. Everybody says sole man he soled have been taken out long ago. We know hes taken out attacks on this continent. Maria weve been showing a graphic about his rein of terror. We know he has blood ons his hands for at least 600 americans, but way beyond that. For the impeachment impasse, we have new information. Former National Security advisor john bolton yesterday said he will testify in a senate trial against President Trump, should he be p subpoenaed. Now, texas congressma congressmn ratcliffe was with me this weekend on sunday morning futures on fox news. I asked him about defending the president in an upcoming trial. Were expecting John Ratcliffe to be one of the key representations for the president. Heres what he said. Congressman, will you be representing the president in an impeachment trial . Well, i dont think the president and white House Counsel made any final decisions about a Senate Defense team because we dont know if theres going to be a senate trial. I can tell you this, ive had discussions about being a resource in whatever way i can be allowed and authorized to do that. This was an unconstitutional impeachment. It was an assault on due process. It was an al salt o assault on e separation of powers. Anything i can do to uphold my obligations to uphold the constitution, limit damage the democrats have done, im prepared and willing to do that. Senator, i am expecting John Ratcliffe to be one of the representatives for the president. But he along with Lindsey Graham said you all will follow the clinton rules whereas you will have both sides present their presentations, maybe it will be adam schiff on the democrats side and John Ratcliffe and pat sipiloni on the president s side and at that time, after the presentations and after all the senators ask the questions a that they want, at that time theyll decide about witnesses. Whats going on with john bolton . Why would he come out and say, yes, ill testify if im subpoenaed . Well, i think we have to realize that this is completely meaningless unless nancy pelosi sends those articles over to the senate and youre exactly right. The process would begin, the trial would begin. We would hear the arguments and then there would be a decision about witnesses, whether or not to call witnesseses or if we wanted to dismiss. Maria senator, you dont even have the articles yet and senator Lindsey Graham sunday said to me, look, if she doesnt send them over in the next couple of days, were going to move to change the rules, hes going to work with Mitch Mcconnell to say, look, we are just going to assume that this president is impeached that everything has gone the way that it goes and we are assuming that we should start the trial and then perhaps i understand there will be a file to dismiss. But right. Maria can you change the rules so easily . I think that we could vote to change the rules and you would probably see people vote. Look, youve got to realize, when i am you ou out across tene as i was thursday, friday and sunday and monday, maria, people are tired of this. Maria yeah. They want us taking that vote on the usmca, the japan agreement has gone into a effect, that is good for tennessee and america. People want to see more judges on the federal bench. They are tired of this of. They look at what pelosi has done as a partisan impeachment. If it were so urgent, she would have sent those things immediately and we would already be into this process. Maria right. She has proven to the american people, it is a partisan political exercise. Maria so youre expressing in their opinion. Maria youre expecting to markup the usmca bill today . Tell me about that. Are we looking at this going on the fasttrack for passage . You heard it here first. I spoke with Peter Navarro on sunday morning futures. He predicted it would be put up for a vote this week. Listen to this. Got to get your reaction a. The backdrop looks strong. What are your expectations in terms of usmca . Were going to get that passed as early as friday or monday. Heres how it works out. My good friend senator grassley is going to mark this bill up on tuesday in the finance committee. Once its marked up leader mcconnell will have the opportunity to put it on the floor and the beauty, maria, of fasttrack legislation is that its a max mull of 20 hours maximum of 20 hours once it goes to the floor for the vote. We have bipartisan support in the senate. Possibly this week we could do great peoples business. Maria what youre saying is you think this could head to the president s desk within a week . It absolutely could. Maria senator, do you agree with that . I would love to see that happen and i can tell you, i know a lot of people who would love to see that happen. Maria will it happen . Do you think it will pass this friday . I think that we will see what happens, as senator grassley takes it in finance committee. There are other committees that have a piece of this for review. We will see how that is going to proceed. In my opinion, the earlier, the better. Because we bring some certainity. Think about this. Look at what donald trump has done. Japan went into effect january 1 and we thank former ambassador haggerty for that you have now got usmca ready to go to the senate and get marked up, get to the floor and the president s desk and then you have the china agreement, the first tier to be signed on january 15th. Maria right. That is progress, that is certainity for farmers, producers, manufacturers. We want to get these deals done. Maria we will leave it there. Well certainly be watching the progress. Senator, good to see you this morning. Thanks so much. Good to see you, thank you. Maria coming up, the retail ice age getting worse, another chain faces widespread closings. Weve got a fractional gain in markets this morning as markets continue to ignore the geopolitical issues, losses stemming from tensions with iran following the assassination of the iranian general yesterday had markets down about 200 points at the open. By the close yesterday, a complete reversal, dow industrials up 68, up 16 right now. Joining us to walk through what some of the worlds wealthiest investors are taking stock in. Tell us about tiger 21 and your members and whether or not the geopolitical events are impacting or dictating how they invest. Well, obviously people are concerned. In our meetings people are saying on a moral and legal basis we had every right to take somebody out who killed hundreds, if not thousands of americans. The question is will this escalate or deescalate the situation. Too early to tell. The way people p prepare is they have a lot of cash so if theres a downturn, they dont have to liquidate at the wrong time. Maria have your members been raising cash. We carry about 12 which historically is six years living expenses. So you dont have to liquidate just at the wrong time. A lot of people in 2008, the big problem was they needed to raise cash and they did it at just the wrong time by selling great assets add at cheap prices. Can you explain how tiger 21 works, who are the members and what do you do . We have 770 of the worlds great entrepreneurs, the allstars or the major leagues, if you will, by success, one in 10,000. Theyve created between 10 million and a billion dollars of investable assets. They meet in groups of 12 to 15 in 60 groups around the globe every month for a full day, facilitated by one of our chairs, and the purpose of the meeting is to learn from one another. These are every person at the table has built a great business or been a partner in a great firm. What was the mindset before the whole iran situation erupted . What was the perspective on how the economy and the markets are going to do in 2020 and what the Political Landscape is going to look like. If you take 7706 peopl 770 o created extraordinary businesses, theyre optimists by nature. Our members are over 70 invested for the long term, real estate, public and private equity. But because theyre concerned about downturns, they have 12 in cash. Some of that is so they can pounce on an opportunity. Most of it is so they can weather almost any storm. Were they optimistic about the outlook for markets . Theyre optimistic today. Theyre optimistic tomorrow. Their life has told them they in longterm, markets work. Shortterm maria you surveyed them recently, the wealthy members about which sectors grow fastest, where they want toal locate capital. How are they doing that . Tech is the number one. Healthcare is number two. Healthcare you have some real headwinds coming if the democrats come to power, youll have drug pricing which could put an impact on some healthcare. Real estate is number one allocation 28, 29 of our assets, real estate is the gift that keeps on giving. Obviously you have tech markets, five, six as you know, cities that continue to outperform. Thats where the action is. Dagen what about the allocation to healthcare,s is that lower than it historically is given you talk about headwinds. But its serious headline risk going into now that were in an election year. But also, policy risk because, again, President Trump you really hit on healthcare and healthcare pricing and drug pricing. He leans left. Yes. I think on healthcare, our members longterm perspective is, if you can cure cancer, youre going to have a winner. In healthcare, you have the ability to have these outperformers, fundamentally most drugs have very high margins when theyre successful. If you can get a winner, thats still a place to put a bet. How about the u. S. Versus the rest of the world . Maria thats a great question. Our members think the u. S. Is king. We have members outside of the country. But our economy, we still have more of the rule of law than most other countries. Obviously in europe theres a lot of rule of law. But the fundamental economics, the fundamental structure still favors the american economy. Do politics matter to them . Does it matter to them if we go right or left on in the 2020 election . Politics matters because people are concerned about the dysfunction in washington and what impact thats having. But with all of the dysfunction, the market is still high and in our meetings, people are trying to grapple with what is that. These are the big unknowns. They stick with the fundamentals. These are meat and potato entrepreneurs who built basic businesses and in good times and bad times theyre going to do well. Maria unless you actually see the fundamentals change and take a hit as a result of the worries in iran, theyre not going to worry about these longterm fundamentals. Maria longterm, thank you. Michael, great to see you. Thanks so much. Quick break and teslas chinese expansion, elon musk in shanghai shaking it up, marking a major milestone for the automaker. Trulicity isnt for people with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Dont take trulicity if youre allergic to it, you or your family have medullary thyroid cancer, or have multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2. Stop trulicity and call your doctor right away if you have an allergic reaction, a lump or swelling in your neck, or severe stomach pain. Serious side effects may include pancreatitis. Taking trulicity with a sulfonylurea or insulin increases low blood sugar risk. Side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, belly pain, and decreased appetite, which lead to dehydration and may worsen kidney problems. I have it within me to lower my a1c. Ask your doctor about trulicity. Maria welcome back. Good tuesday morning, everybody. Thanks so much for joining us. Im maria bartiromo. It is tuesday, january 7th. Your top stories right now, 7 3. Markets are higher, seem to be shrugging off the conflict in iran, pointing to a higher opening this morning. Dow industrials up 18 points, s p up 2, and nasdaq futures up 27 on top of a wild day of trading yesterday. Markets had a turnaround by the close of over 200 points. Remember in the Morning Hours we were telling you the market was down almost 200 points. By the close, dow industrials managed to gain 68 andahalf points, a quarter of a percent. S p 500 was up 11 andahalf and nasdaq was up 50 points, almost twothirds of 1 higher on the nasdaq yesterday. Global markets are mostly higher, european indices higher across the board. First this, teslas ceo elon musk in china today to mark the first public delivery of the model 3 that is made at its new shanghai plant. Gradey in chicago with that. Reporter these were the first tesla vehicles made in china and first tesla vehicles made anywhere outside of the u. S. Elon musk was onhand for the rollout, the first model 3 cars made at the companys new shanghai manufacturing facilities. The price point is similar to other electric vehicles made in china, although a little bit on the higher end. This is a big move for tesla and a im not talking about those dance moves. Building the cars in china will help cut production costs p and help the company avoid tariffs and china is also the Worlds Largest car market and the Worlds Largest electric vehicle market. The plant is assembling more than 1,000 cars a week right now and the Company Hopes to scale up to 500,000 a year. Tesla also announced its assembling the model y suv at that shanghai facility. Tesla benefits from higher margins on the model y, costs about the same amount to make but can sell it for more. Elon musk expects t that model o be more popular than the other models it sells combined. Speaking of musk, here are the dance moves you were wait forge. He was clearly happy about the rollout. He tweeted this out with the caption not suitable for work. Maria, i think the bangles called from the 1980s, they want their walk like an egyptian dance back. Maria its great. I just love this video, grady. Reporter could watch it all day. Maria looking good. Grady, thank you. We want to turn to the disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, new Sexual Assault charges coming from los angeles as his lawyers may be looking to delay his criminal trial. Jury slex is set to begin jury selection is set to begin today he has denied any wrongdoing. Joining us right now is defense attorneattorney janna spillbore. You assess where we are right now and why you think this is real important to note what took place in california yesterday. Okay. Yesterday was huge. This was a calculated move by the california authorities. I guarantee you they called up the new york prosecutor to make sure that they properly planned and timed this bomb that they dropped, in california, Harvey Weinstein will be facing criminal charge theres. I will equally guarantee the defense had no idea this was going to happen. Why is this important . We are on the eve of this mans much anticipated trial. It boils down to this, maria. Lets fast forward. If Harvey Weinstein is acquitted and whether you want to believe it or not, it is a possibility at the end of the day, if he is acquitted, he will not walk out the front door of this manhattan courthouse. He will go to jail where he will await extradition now to california to be arraigned on those charges. That was a very calculated and bold move. Maria you think he thinks hes going to get better treatment in california . No, no, hes now facing charges in california but he is here in new york. So at some point, california is going to extradite him to its state to face the music there. Cheryl. Maria i didnt realizes limping, relying at times on a cane for help. From a legal standpoint, what could that mean for the trial . Was that a did you know that he used a cane, dagen . Dagen hes been showing up recently with a walker. Again, it seems to be a play by his defense attorney on sympathy, if any exists for this ogre. It seems like its about optics a little bit. A lot what i think were going to hear inside that courtroom is hes a big assuming man because a lot of the complainants, even the ones that arent going to be testifying, saying hes kind of a big guy so i didnt want to ar ruffle any feathers. If he comes in with a walker, hes less big in many ways. Dagen the headline story in the New York Post is not just that Harvey Weinstein is ready for his closeup but prosecutors yesterday revealed they have humiliating pictures of the film mogul that they are planning to use to corroborate testimony of the witnesses that the defense lawyers are concerned about this but again, this was unveiled in the final hearing ahead of jury selection by the assistant district attorney, plans to privately unveil seven photos to the jury near the close of the prosecutions case as corroborating evidence. Apparently theyre pictures of him naked. Dagen yeah. My eyes are already bleeding. I dont know that we need that. He never denied having relations with any of these complainants. The defense is going to be based on did they agree, was it consensual or wasnt it. Thats really what it boils down to. The charges go back to 2006. How common is it to go back that far in time . Does that help him. It does help him. A lot of these crimes dont get report right away. Once you open the floodgates people feel safer to come forward. What the prosecution isnt going to have, they have no police reports, they dont have dna or forensics. Its going to boil down to the accusers words against harveys words. Thats it, at the end of the day when we chip everything away. Dagen do you think more criminal charges will be filed, whether its in los angeles, maybe even here, other places, because there are at least 80 women who have publicly accused Harvey Weinstein of Sexual Assault or misconduct in the last two years. I think youre hitting that on the head. I think if we read the tea leaves that will happen. This is a good test case, the criminal proceeding in manhattan to determine how juries might be feeling about this, which way theyre going to go. Thorthen hes off to californiao matter what. Will we see more . Especially now. Maria what evidence can he bring forth that would say oh, this was consensual and had this wasnt rape . I love that question. When we pars this out, legally speaking, regardless of anybodys personal feelings, in the eyes of the law, nonconsent needs to be, quote, clear cleary expressed. What we see outside of the l courtroom are a lot of his victims saying i didnt say no, but i didnt say yes. If no means no and yes means yes, what does acquiescence mean legally speaking . That can be deemed consent. Thats the narrow opening for Harry Weinsteins defense team to make some points. Dagen hes given some horrific interviews where hes like i did so much for women, i got Gwenyth Paltrow a huge paycheck. Does he need to shut up. Maria he doesnt see it that way. Every defendant i ever represented needed to shut up sooner than the answer to that is yes. Maria its great to have your insight. Thank you very much. Well keep following this. Ikea reaching a settlement after a tragic accident, cheryls on headlines. And iran stoking fears of soaring gasoline prices. The National Average price for a gallon of regular gas now at 2. 58. Joining us right now is gas buddys head of Petroleum Analysis patrick deh an. Do you think what should we expect when we go to the pump . I think for now at least, the worry is ahead of us. What lies ahead, obviously the market now very sensitive to what happens between the u. S. And iran. That doesnt necessarily mean that theres impending jump in gas prices. Oil prices have gone up slightly, but the big difference this time is that this is not iran attacking saudi arabia. Theres no physical disruption yet. But thats what americans should watch for as a potential, if iran retaliates. Maria what about the seasonality issue . Here we are in winter. One major cost for Many Americans is home heating oil. What are the implications theres . Are you expecting higher prices for home heating oil, gasoline, airline tickets, anything transportation related . This is the time of the year when there are normal headwinds for gasoline. Prices thanks to be lower in january and february, thanks to lower demand. Heating oil, were in the prime of heating oil season. Depends how cold the country gets. There could be implications for that especially due to specification changes from the International Maritime organization. When it comes to things like logistics, airlines, they tend to be laggards, by several months, if not longer than that. Dont immediately expect a huge impact to airline tickets. If there is an impact to oil that lies ahead, that is something that could happen as a potential. Maria theres an expense even when youre traveling with the price of oil, right, because fuel costs are the issue for the airlines for example. What about ticket prices . Thats exactly it. You saw a lot of the Airline Stocks plummet on friday as oil prices surged. That relationship will probably remain and as you point out, i dont expect airlines to necessarily levy higher prices because of this but keep in mind, an overall Strong Economy has bolstered the price of crude oil. Longterm that may be something airlines are looking to do already and of course with the max 8 grounded they have more room to raise prices in the months ahead, on account of oil prices that were about 60 a barrel before the u. The four games in the wild card round averaged more than 30. 5 million viewers. Making it the most watched wild card round in three years. Big stuff here. Nfl keeps doing well. Dagen my daddy and i watched all of them together including virtually every bowl game over the holidays. There was some good games. I cant wait until next weekend. I was excited for the vikings. Maria a year ago we were talking about concussions, we were talking about the kneeling controversy. The nfl has turned it around. I attribute a lot of it to what tim ellis has done apt the Marketing Department at the nfl to change the perception of the nfl. Its nice. There was a moment where the nfl was something that was tearing america apart. Now it seems to be bringing us together again which is the point of sports. I hesitate to say, to bring Colin Kaepernick into this but he kind of marginalized himself this week with this whole thing with iran kind of giving into the iran thing. That tweet was a bad move. It was awful. On the kneeling thing, evidence had a whole thing about police brutality. What does he know about iran and what america is doing in iraq . Its just dagen i call that gasping for relevancy. Again, hes fading, other than nike having him as a pitch person. Maria there were choice words for him. What i hate about that tweet, it said something about american imperialism and black and brown people in iran and he discounts the black and brown people that are serving in the military that are american soldiers that have stood up for something besides their own self interest which is what he did. I think the black and brown people that are being killed in the middle east by iran and others exactly. Dagen led by soleimani. Maria finland looking to shorten the workweek. The Prime Minister looking to shave 16 hours after the workweek, with workers putting had in six hours four days a week. She is 34 years old. Is this a sign of the times . How would you like that kind of workweek . When i first said it, i thought it was a new bern perso Bernie Sanders proposal. Its a sign of lazy times. What successful person works only 24 hours a week. Beyond that. We have a 3. 5 Unemployment Rate right now. Its like america is working. Good luck with a six hour work day. We cant afford to do that. Finland tried universal basic income and that failed, correct . Maria i dont know how that played out. I forget. I dont want to misspeak. Do you need an assistant . How about one this size of a tennis ball. Meet bally, one of samsungs new gadget. The robot comes with a camera. It will follow you around wherever you did. Go. You just have to say come here, ball hey. Its being compared to the bb8 from star wars. Dagen it looks cool. My charlie dog would destroy it within two minutes of that thing rolling around my home. That thing in the same place with plant based wings which is out of my sight and out of my home. Maria seriously speaking, we are moving into an era of Artificial Intelligence, a. I. , where at some point many people will have their own technology assistants. Theyre going to have their own robots. It could become another have and have not situation, some people have their own robots, others dont. This is where were going, i guess. Kind of creepy but kind of cool. It freaks me out. Com maria welcome back top story this hour chaos in iran at least 40 people trampled to death, in a stampede yesterday during the iranian general Qassem Soleimanis funeral reliablying is live in with more. Not clear what sparked this stampede but we know the crowds have been massive, in iran, both yesterday, for the funeral procession and today for the actual burial, some point this stampede did break out, iranian tv is reporting at least 40 dead, and well over 200 people injured, trampled by this crowd that gathered for the funeral of that iranian general who he was taken out in the drone strike, in iraq late last week the crowd again in the millions yesterday, and today, and appeasing angry rhetoric to set u. S. Facilities on fire chapts of death to israel in the crowd vote by iran importants parliament to designate u. S. Military terrorist force for taking out leader of the Iran Revolutionary guard blamed for killing major hundreds of u. S. Troops and thousands others President Trump promised a swift and overwhelming response if iran tries to retaliate and he has tools to do it, including the f35 a2 lightning fighter jet 52 of them rocketing into the sky one after another, socalled elephant walk takeoff from air force base in utah squadron 356 from utah in the region fox news confirmed air force is also sending six b52 bombers to diego garcia, island base in the indian ocean definitely a gearing up for the possibility of having to strike back if iran tries to make retaliatory strikes against u. S. Interests, by the way, maria, there is a warning from u. S. To ships in the middle east watch out fore possibly retaliatory attacks in waterways straits around this region so o ships on alert anyone with any connection to the u. S. Is being warned, to look out. Maria we will be watching that is dangerous situation, reliablying leventhal with the very latest. Markets scaling back selloff after airstrike futures showing a gain start of trading this morning, investors shugdz off conflict up 68 dow industrials, said and done gold, as you can see, complete reversal by close yesterday nasdaq up 50 points still in record territory, gold, meanwhile, is has been rising, it is certainly, looking like a safe haven precious metal jumping to nearly 1600 an ounce highest since 2013 gold up 7 in the last month, bank of America Private Bank and merrill chief Investment Officer on this great to see you thank you for joining us. What do you think markets are shrugging this off. Sheer momentum we saw in december look at flows number of things not just performance of Global Equity being markets, spreads, or what have you i think a lot of liquidity out there number one Central Banks plus the dollars investment accounts risi investmenting he gos allocation going up not a perfect positive storm as relates to the economy but certainly has based out and next 12 months should be positive improvement factor let me get big momentum in risk assets even though a very dangerous situation, a very important and serious situation that until there is retaliation investors will shrug it off. Until something shakes very strong backdrop that we had solid consumer 50year low unemployment investors not worrying about it that is correct. What is your expectation for u. S. Economic growth this year, and also for the rest of the world are there was so much talk in 2019 about a global slowdown that narrative changeded. No question about it we have been on this narrative probable a little early six months ago we were talking about a fourth minimum mini wave the Business Cycle less boombust slowing growing less inflation more liquidity higher debt lower stock Interest Rates Debt Service Ratios manageable longer Business Cycle until fed makes a mistake they dont want to make a mistake tend to go too far spokesman almost did in 2018 going into 19 they were going to high onning four more times cut three that is a seven change move, offer the course of 12 months very powerful now heading into 2020 think about growth baseline forecast 1. 7 probably too low the First Quarter should you see a bottoming in Global Growth back half in my opinion u. S. Economies help support a little bit better growth. Lets not forget federal spending Government Spending is going through the roof right now. Right. That is another leg to the stool that is driving our pumping money into this economy, we are also seeing it coming out of china too. Maria no question, about. Export market put all together 1. 7 . That is the government. Maria you got jobs number out this friday, we are on doorstep of fourthquarter earnings, so the fourthquarter earnings season next week would you buy head of two major events. Yes buying on weakness through the year appearance, after earnings a pullback heading into primary season then summer months when election starts to get elevated at that point over summer minz we see another pullback typically years have two or three pullbacks 5 we expect the classic pullbacks this year notwithstanding the middle east. How are individual investors positioned for this, because last year, nearly half a trillion dollars net flowed into bond funds, ambulance flowing out of equity funds u. S. , if domestic focus and international, not just funds but Exchange Traded funds that doesnt seems like someone is making a mistake are investors position ford something bad this year . Or would they just making error last year . You know, mathematics will tell you a lot of things, sometimes they tell you nothing because the flows out of mutual funds almost recycled back you might argue net neutral equity flows in general your point really good point demographics driving more fund flows simply because of aging going on the need to retool asset allocations the other kay automatically rebalance portfolios into fixed incomes older you get put that together the individual investor collectively looks like making mistakes what we are seeing is more money coming in at younger ages, in some of the consumer accounts that we see, and consumer allocation lower levels adding more to equities a very interesting game going to take years to play out. Big tech in 2020 you Say Technology not limited to just, one industry anymore. A greatly point we bucket traders too much in our industry one of the greatest buckets technology the Technology Sector itself all sectors fraught with a lot of innovation across the board so we would look at who is dominateing tech across sectors not just one sector. The United States or rest are there any opportunities out there in rest of the world right now . The emerging markets are another kour that you have envelope volunteering parts of emerging markets have ability to withstand this movement from globization to localization over the next few years areas you want to be if you think about poland mexico that are targeted areas that are not going to be hurt as much as other emerging markets when you shift supply chain but yes, we are looking at upgrade opportunities in emerging markets still slightly under wait underweight nup u. S. In general. Im sorry. Go ahead. I just had a question in terms of is there any rhetoric from either side that is going on right now because a transitional year in flights is there any rhetoric from either side that kind of gives you pause in terms of how you would make it in the marketing. At a Elizabeth Warren gets up in polls or Bernie Sanders looking like going to win what happens to markets then. At this particular time, it is so he early, being in the process, that there isnt anything right now that we can foresee that dents economic picture at this point we will obviously, reassess further we get into policy front, but as of right now were our core base case is still very plain vanilla, we discussed before 1. 7, to 2 growth 1. 8 to 2 10year yield 8 returns overall driven by real profits. Corporate debt households in good shape corporate debt out there movement in lower rated debt suggests might be some cracks. It is if Interest Rates rise to a level driven primarily by inflation that flows out of if i could income but if driven by inflation prompts a respondings by the fed that we are not prepared for, would it worry me because of the size of the absolute debt, what doesnt worry me right now the fact the number one Thing Companies said they are going to do number one thing investors say they Want Companies to do is pay down debt. Quick before you go is there index e. Tf anything our viewers might want to look at to invest alongside what you are saying right now . Give me one idea. Okay. So in terms of just just think sectors for a second one sector technicallied to do lead early stage recoveries and middle stage recoveries that we havent up until tail end of last year financials i would with watch financials closely to give better feel for overall market we like finance ministers we think yield curve spriestsdz people steep enz a little bit provides tonic Financial Sector very i thought we are late stage. Dagen he is saying financials did not perform as they had historically, now that yield curve steepened after inverted in p the spring and middle of the year so now finally getting wind behind the back of the financial. Great point absolutely, i would argue because of what fed has done, we are potentially backing in early stages. We will leave it there, we will hear from banks, next week when we get major banks reporting rangers great to get insights thank you so much. Good morning, maria also a a pleasure love from austin texas to kick off your sense how things are going from a business standpoint, in terms of the economy, in terms of consumer demand out there how are you seeing things . We are very, very bullish we see this economy continuing to grow this year we annoyed all areas i am involved in whether with spirits industry, whether it is hair care cosmetics all areas are growing people are happy, seems also people are more satisfied more positive talk than negative talk i consider that contributing gooded economy. I want to ask about spirits business in a must be the trend less sugar turning to go vodka instead of wine theyve been go dry in january so talk about that in a second let me he focus on spiraling homelessness crises i know important to you. Very much. Maria o wants to help we that had ceo cisco saying going to try to do what he can in San Francisco you look at some pictures, whether it is new york city, San Francisco, chicago, l. A. The homelessness problem has gotten worse, what are businesses doing . Well an example what were he doing in austin i think weve got the answer to it we build a Community Called Community First, what we did we built 250 little houses if you have been in a shelter, i i mean out of shelter at least one year sleeping under a bridge on street first people to come in, we only have three rules we give you a little house, those rules are no drinking, no fighting, no alcohol. Period. You get the house you pay 90 dollars a month people say some have zero money how can you forward 90 dollars a month if we give you something giving you have a handout you dont feel special if you contribute, we gave you a hand up, so what we do is this we have woodshop auto shop metal shop a comforters going on gardens going on organic make organically better than wealthy people eat in most cases so they have an income, now they are able to pay that 90 dollars a month rent fill community we help them work have extra money left over for other things working so well we are putting together phase two, which is another 400 homes, at the same time we are working with city on a new program, to build a large unit for 300 people. Those 300 homeless men women come for shelter bathrooms places to stay, counselors to help go to places like mobile, or next place to go to get out of the rut there are people throw money at it feed it, it is not the thing to do not the answer. When we involve them in our community, this is all, by the way, done by volunteers, volunteers, volunteer money working we have states coming to look at it say my god it is working so here we now take 205 people, a 250 people needed a handout contributing society and paying taxes, and cleaning their act up you the is working. And you go online, wonderful listeners look up Community First working and working well sneel john paul how do you explain what is going on here on one hand the economy is doing really well, are growing really fast and, yet, even in places like austin, as showing pictures, we have a holelessness problem seems getting worse how do you put that two and two together . Mow do you have the economy so strong that is also he leaving so many people behind right now. It what is taking place right now not this, have nots dont have a lot of people because of rent i am throwing back at rents going so high from major cities 1 or 200 dollars a month end up on street how do you get back again here is a soup line how do we get you back build proper housing i understand los angeles, even in austin want to spend millions of dollars to pulled hotels house maybe 50 people one they are spending too much, number two, your housing somebody, you are not putting in something, that gets them back to work, there are so many Jobs Available right now, that take minimal training that minimal training is not available. In schools auto shop woodshop metal shop whether i went to school i built a gokart in, jr. , high school doesnt exist anymore i grautsdz from high school many, many years ago you can go into great paying job a great paying job if trained in school. It is not there anymore as trades leave the school in those physical arts leave school it means a lot of people trained to do something dont have jobs, so Big Companies are right now this is the truth, you hiring people from outside the United States to fill the jobs, because the jobs are here but not enough qualified people in many cases. Maria what about policies in some cities it wondering if that is part of it because you are seeing, you know, cities like San Francisco, ask sanctuary city like los angeles, i mean that are really seeing the big brunt of this then youve got tax flight to florida, Sunshine State has been gaining population extremely wealthy residents past years have gone to florida major biggest leaders seeking lower taxes, talk to us about policy, and impact, john. O i would love to i am giving you austin as example 25 years ago in austin i moved 20 years ago, 20, 25 years ago in austin we didnt have a bunch of pan handlers on street Homeless People you had hippy like selling flowers, selling trinkets on street nice, clean people all of a sudden we get rushed last 20, 25 years with with homeless more and more and more what are things that contributed, overregulation, overlicensing, in austin, texas, you have to have several hundred dollars to apply a permit to sell something on the street. At a trinket a lemonade, people that dont have money cant come up with hundreds of dollars, the regulations what you have to pay the cities forward all due respect regulations are great scenarios but United States of america has become overinging regulated i read california takes over a year to get a permit to build a house, Home Builders extra expense on hands. Taxes regulations are getting so high taking middle class people out of a middle class life and many, many cases, talk causing homelessness city the look at taxation when it talks about california we have more people coming to texas, and having florida and other states. Maria right. From new york corporations, because they are overtaxed when you are overtaxed realize no disrespect extreme liberals you have to understand this when you overtaxing people they are going to move, you pay too much money away going to put it someplace else not the answer. Maria like we say all the time, right like we say all the time Dagen Mcdowell. Dagen money is noble. I new you are you were going to i never heard that. Say it money is mobile. Thank you so much. Always pleasure. Peace love happiness. Coming up shares of apple jumping to new high the stock a size start to the year after lagging the rest of the sector then trouble in paradise how one couple from abc series bachelor in paradise tied up in one too many fan as theities now the infestation investigation into alleged fraud we go behind it. Back in a minute. Whatd we decide on the flyers again . Uh, fifteen minutes could save you 15 or more on Car Insurance. I think were gonna swap over to over seventyfive years of savings and service. What, were just gonna swap over . Yep. Pump the breaks on this, swap it over to that. Pump the breaks, and, uh, swap over . Thats right. Instead of all this that ive already . Yeah. What are we gonna do with these . Keep it at your desk, and save it for next time. Geico. Over 75 years of savings and service. Do you recall, not long ago we would walk on the sidewalk all around the wind blows we would only hold on to let go blow a kiss into the sun we need someone to lean on blow a kiss into the sun we needed somebody to lean on all we need is someone to lean on we are looking it is a fractional mofrz this morning o dow industrials up 8 points nasdaq up 2, meanwhile, this mailers reaching settlement with boeing over 737 max crisis boeing to watch gerri willis on floor with details gerri. Good morning, maria. That dow s p turning flatline there at the very last second as you came to me, meanwhile, boeing is reached a settlement with American Airlines that Company American had said their losses from 737 max jet would reduce profits by 540 million, we dont know the details of the settlement but we know american is saying they will get 30 Million Dollars of the payments to employees, memorials mad 24 max jets at the time of groundings plane google shares alltime high yesterday and poised to open higher today, research raising rating on stock to buy raising price garth to 16 pounlt 350 google ceo sen radar going to run Apparent Company as well they like that, and capable may lose eyeballs streaming losing money no major inscription generators reliable profits from streaming disney when it took over hbo max launched this year unprofoundly till 2024 look at netflix borrowed 13 billion dollars for content back to you. Thank you gerri willis looking at a flat opening this morning, usmca in focus, the markup scheduled today, in finance committee in senate trade deal on fast track about for passage you heard it here first i spoke with Peter Navarro sunday morning futures sunday predicted usmca would be put up for a vote this week spoke about the effects on gdp. The Bigger Picture here for me is an economy in 2020 which is really hitting on all cylinders usmca china two of five deals basically going into effect, growth closer to 3 , 2 continuing rising wages particularly for people that i try to help every day, who work with hands. Maria joining us right now Harvard University economics professor former imf chief economist, thanks for weighing in this morning. Thank you. So we are expecting usmca to get the markup today, possibly past senate this week or next week what is impact to the economy comoo do you think about the trade worries that we were talking about, last year, we now are expecting the phase one of the china deal to get signed january 15, usmca to pass. Well, first of all, the trade deal is much more important than to United States i think United States big news is they passed something got something done. That really you know, probably positively affects psychology when something really important is going on it will happen. I think the facts on usmca are going to be marginal, there are some good things, in it, Environmental Standards protected a bit, restrictions oning manufacturing imports i think are counterproductive, certainly not going to have a big effect on growth at jewel not a big affect on growth would can you couple 3 in 2020 . Well you know it is possible as i know maria i have been the optimistic about u. S. Growthing quite sometime. And i think, are the about risks that have is quite a bit higher than people are expecting, at least equal to the odds of having a recession but seems like the most likely is low 2s at the moment. It is Jon Hilsenrath as we with speak we have data on screen here the trade devastate deficit did he have sit contracted talk about trade uncertainty slow and global trade we see trade picture improving can you explain, what was going on there, at the end of 2019 that would have been improving trade picture for United States . Well, we would have had a cycle imports from china because i think a lot got frontloaded. Fearing the tariffs would be higher. It is also sensitive to oil prices. I cant really read too much in it beyond that. I want to ask administrator some people that think that both the democrats, and President Trump are winners with this usmca getting passed going about that what do you think . Well, they, obviously, both think so but i think you know just a relief that in this crazy atmosphere can get something constructive done hopeful means another one maybe pull something out of their hat again. Should a ken it is Dagen Mcdowell with the killing of soleimani certainly the heightened tensions with iran in the middle east what are you watching for in terms of what event would have will impact on that the just u. S. Economy but the Global Economy . You know, it is so hard to know the effects of geopolitical uncertainty, about usually unless something dramatic happens it is actually not that great but obviously, if iran you know does something to block Oil Shipments from middle east, that would have a striking effect. If the u. S. Were suddenly thrown into a war, where it had to vastly raise expenditures that would have an effect but i think at the moment there are hot spots all over the world. It is not entirely clear whether in the long run this cools off or heats up about about rangers stepping up provocation against u. S. Maybe this will cool it off inform the end who knows. We are 11 years into economic expansion what could end thisening and when . Well you know, it is hard to know. It is very hard to predict timing of these things, i dont think our chances of having a recession right now are any more than slightly elevated i say normal year 15, 20 . Maybe 20 to 25 now. You know certainly i think the election coming up is going to start speaking to investors as democratic candidate becomes apparent maybe by april may certainly by middle of next year, a lot of the discussion will be about what is likely to be a 5050 president ial race, 50 chance could go away but tremendous uncertainty about policy. It is surprising that hasnt hit the markets more at this point. Depending on who wins election is obviously, going to impact markets as well, so we have finished 19 record territory for markets a pretty good backdrop in terms of growth right now with unemployment where it is the consumer where it is, where do you see the growth in 2020 . What sectors . And what about the unknown of the election . Would Elizabeth Warren warn or Bernie Sanders policy send markets spiraling . Well i think the answer to your latter question is for sure. At least officially. I dont know that growth would necessarily go down. Some of what is going on now that i think is very good is that wages for the bottom 25 are moving up faster than for the top 25 they have done, that is helps boosts cs consumption seems likely to continue i think if job numbers continue to be good Consumer Optimism will be good it will probably boost expennedture ways sustainable the big issue if we shifted to completely different regime, i think a lot of the policies that warern and sanders have said short run might well boost the economy but i am not sure how good for long run productivity that would be much less clear. Maria hold on what policy that Bernie Sanders is pushing is going to boost the economy . Oh basically shift there is a very high rate of saving at very top, and very bottom people spend the money so you got some can you commutation from redistributing income not sustainable i am not trying to weigh in on details if you actually stop fracking day one pass medicare for all it goes through day one that is pretty chai ot i think transition but i dont think that is kind of thing is going to happen. Great to get insights thanks so much. Thank you. Yes, it is okay, item one, the japanese prosecutors issued an arrest warrant for correspondole ghosn an american passport holder means if she goes back to america, there is an extradition treat between japan and america, and she could have some extradition problems if she ever came back to america. Item two, in Financial Times this morning, appears that former British Military officers helped ghosn get out of japan.
