Steady traffic, as you can see, all morning long. And a lot of the stores, im in front of the kay jewelers outlet right now, take a look, ash, save 2580 on the entire store. Theres nobody in the store. The store is completely empty. On black friday. Follow me now. Were going to make it to a store where i spent a good chunk of my time, and you can also let me know if i can expense any of the items. This is the Disney Outlet store. I went in, and the sign says 20 off until 10 a. M. , is so i brought a frozen 2 castle. So excited. [laughter] to test it, i said let me see how much this would be online. Same exact price with the 20 off and not until 10 a. M. So there you have it, is black friday dead . Ashley perhaps the bigger question, any baby yoda stuff out there, lauren . I will say in the disney store lots of frozen 2, and the workers here said it was flying off the shelves. I got some. Some little 4yearolds going to be happy on christmas morning. Ashley of course. You know, i remember in days of yore on a black friday where the doors would be overcrowded, theyd open the doors, people would fall over each other, sometimes people got injured. It was complete mayhem. Those days are gone, right . No, i dont really agree with everything that i just heard. You have to view black friday as an event ashley yeah. And whats happened is the event in the Larger Stores target, walmart, best buy, kohls, macys it really starts on thursday now, on thanksgiving day. There were huge lines yesterday, believe me, when those Stores Opened up for their doorbusters at 5 and 6 p. M. Additionally, a lot of black friday has moved online. Thats a big source of growth. And that started on midnight in between wednesday and thanksgiving morning, so there was a full day of online sales. Black fridays bigger than ever, but you have to add together thursday and friday. And as far as the mall, those are pick up in the afternoon, but people are able to shop all night on thanksgiving and get right back up and go at five a. M. In the morning as if it never happened on thursday. In the old days, it started on friday morning, and thats why it was mobbed. Laurens great, but shes there at the wrong time. It was last night, and its going to be bigger this afternoon. Ashley point taken. You expect sale to be up about 4 this year, yearoveryear, even with and a lot of people are making this point, six days less between thanksgiving and Christmas Day because just where thanksgiving fell this year. Is that a big deal or, in your mind, not so much . No. I think maybe back when Teddy Roosevelt was president or manager, that have a big or something, that was a big deal. Its not a big deal anymore. Youre seeing the lobby to move thanksgiving, all those things back then. Right now because of the internet, because of the pervasive square footage, how easy it is to get to stores, i dont think that matters at all. The consumers healthy, they have money, theyre going to spend it. We say it all the time, but christmas comes on december 25th every year. All thats going to happen is there was a little bit of extra shopping before black friday. Black fridays going to be the biggest ever, guarantee it. When you add up the stores and the internet, biggest ever, guaranteed. You wont have the slump when theres a longer period between this is and christmas in past years, every day is going to be up, and were going to end up in that 4 range. Thats where were going to end up. Just because its a little shorter between thanksgiving and christmas, grandmas not going to give a lump of coal for christmas. Everybodys going to get their presents. Everyone will get their presents, dent worry. Ashley outside the big three, four, amazon, walmart, target, costco, how are some of the outlier retailers going to fare this Holiday Season, especially those brick and mortar folks who are having a harder time getting people to come into the stores . Well, the malls are in trouble, make no mistake, and Apparel Stores can struggling as people are moving towards electronics. You saw great numbers out of best buy towards more hardline purchases, more experiential, restaurants, cell phones, you know, the consumers very, very healthy. Therell be winners and losers. Meanwhile, bricks and mortar like target, 92 of targets sales are still in stores. Walmart is performing spectacularly well, costco, dollar general, another value player, tj maxx, ross stores, all bricks and mortar based, doing fantastic. Theres going to be lots of winners. The losers are going to be the Department Stores who are struggling to find relevance in this internet era and apparelbased mall stores because, frankly, the traffic at the malls has declined ashley right. What they are and whether or not theyll be implemented, whole different story because it might just be a lot of tough rhetoric, right . And reaction, at least the chinese electorate themselves. But does President Trump actually utilize any parts of this hong kong democracy bill, i think thats the key point what this does, it verifies that hong kong independent from china each and every year in order to keep the special relationship that hong kong enjoys with the u. S. When it comes to finance and trade. Also it gives President Trump the authority to curb travelers and to impose sanctions on those that might be violating ashley will he impose those, thats the question. Yeah. Especially in light of a trade deal, because u. S. Stock futures did drop in reaction to this, but people still expect a trade deal to be signed pretty soon, before the tend of this year, if none of these measures are implemented. And this is what theyre saying is helping to spread the cause of protecting the climate as well. I dont know how that ties in, but block friday, thats the dozens of protests across paris and across france right now to block people from getting to malls to buy and shop. It makes no sense to me considering the consumerism powers a lot of ones economy, hike the u. S. For one. But we have many objections. French lawmakers say its excessive consumerism, resource waste that comes with black friday. Ashley youd think theyd have other things to protest, because they do every day almost. Omalley hounded him for carrying out trumpS Immigration policies. Mr. Cucinelli called it, quote, sad and shocking. Guess what . Ken cucinelli is with us on the phone. Mr. Secretary, thank you so much. I read this story twice because i didnt believe it the first time. But just if you could [laughter] explain to me how you came under attack and how did you react to that. Well, first of all, i did not leave the pub. Ashley okay. I went and got my beer. [laughter] i stayed right there. But, yeah, thats giving in to juvenile terrorism on the part of Martin Omalley. So every night before thanksgiving all of us who graduate from Gonzaga High School near Union Station in d. C. Including martin to omalley and myself have an alumni event. A lot of us go to dubliner before the event. Started hearing, like, screaming and cussing behind me. Didnt think much of it off the bat and then turned to look and see what was going on, and this is the former above of maryland, veins bulging out of his neck, screaming and cussing at me and the president and whatever else he could think of. And as i was going to get my guinness, i just sort of shook my head and went over to that particular bar which, unfortunately, had closed down, so i had to go somewhere else in the pub to get my guinness. But as i was working to walk away, others of his friends had taken up the cheers which we cant repeat because of fcc rules, you know, directed at me. To occasionally he made immigration policy comments which, my personal favorite was about the 2014 pages and his assertion that we were using those in this administration which, of course, were not. I remindedded him that president obama brought those pages and used them, and he didnt really appreciate pesky little facts like that getting in the way of his jamison. He had some other comments. Got right in my face, like, literally inches from my nose, bumping up on me and invited me to take a swing at him. Ashley [inaudible] oh, it was very tempting. Of course it was tempting, but it was never a serious consideration, you know . And at that point, i literally said to him, martin, one of us is going to have to rise above us and, its obviously not going to be you. [laughter] stuart good line. And interestingly, at that point a guy id served in the virginia general assembly, democrats friend of mine steve shannon, who i ran against for attorney general in 2009 who i didnt realize was there who also spent a year at gonzaga poked his head in between us in what looked like a pretty clear effort to deescalate or separate martin from his screaming, cussing bit. Hey, ken, how you doing, hows the family which was, i thought, were wise of im i thought very wise of him. It isnt every democrat, but this sort of antifalike tactic you saw with sarah sanders, ted cruz, etc. , and like i said, i wasnt going to leave the pub and didnt. And when i went to the other side and actually found my classmates and got my guinness, i learned that they could all across the pub, and were talking, like, around the corner from a wall ashley yeah. They were hearing him screaming and yelling not really knowing what was going on. But i think martin would like to play it today like he was a cool, calm assessor of trump immigration policy. And the president , look, has been very aggressive in the failure of congress to act, and this is the kind of response that we get. Ashley right. Instead of constructive participation, people like martin scream, and they come right up to the edge of violence. And, of course, some of them actually cross that line. I think martin was pretty tempted himself. Ashley have you heard from, have you heard from mr. Omalley at all oh, no. Ashley with sort of an apology . No. Martin isnt going to apologize. Martin was out of control, and he believed what he was cussing. And, you know, started in on my, you know, he dragged everything in there. Not just me and the president , he started in on my italian grandparents ashley oh, my god. Yeah, that was a joy. And, like i said, you know, physically right in my face, finger, finger in the chest kind of thing, bumping up on me. And he obviously wanted to fight since he invited me to take a wing at him. Ashley right. But, you know, thats the level of behavior. He doesnt have anything constructive to say. Mind you, this is a guy whom the Democratic Party thought he could be president. [laughter] but that was, you know, that was a joke for everyone except Martin Omalley at all points in time. Ashley well you know . Its sad and pathetic, and im glad we have larry hogan in maryland and not Martin Omalley. Ashley the good news is, ken, you didnt give up on your guinness, and you came out of it. Hell, no. Look, martin did not have ad good president ial race, and for whatever reason, he has to now indulge in this kind of recklessness the night before thanksgiving. Go figure. Youre just supposed to have a nice time, youre supposed to relax, he has to act like a college activist protesting something he doesnt even realize. Ashley yeah. And you know what . This has been going on for some time, certainly from antifa, but all the way up to the politicians themselves, charlie. To me, its not getting any better as we head into next year, i think its going to get ramped up even more. No doubt. And think of it for a second, in the form former republic governor went after and screamed at obamaS Immigration secretary or, you know, the head of immigration services, could you imagine what the media would say . Instead, the medias almost lauding what Martin Omalley did. I read a story in the Washington Post just before, and they said Martin Omalley really stood up for what was right. Unfortunately, the left, theyre so upset that President Trump has succeeded, they have to go to these unreasonable lengths to try to scream at people in public.
