Maria big show this morning, fox business dagen mcdowell, kings view asset chief Investment Officer scott martin is here and forbes media chairman, former republican president ial candidate, steve forbes. Market will not quit, futures pulling back, once again, what a month, we are coming off best performance since june, dagen. Dagen ive said this, Central Banks around the globe, markets have wind at the backs, if you look at fund manager cash levels plunge, the largest monthly drop in 3 years in the month of november, stock allocations have gotten higher, wall street journal writing about this this week and then the rolling 12month global total for Central Bank Purchase assets to hit 1 trillion, steve is cringing, steve is on fire that im talking about this, it is important to note that despite some of the negative news that weve gotten in the markets whether its about Capital Expenditures, weak Fourth Quarter forecast for the economy, you still have easy money around the world. Maria sure do. Yeah, but easy money can only take you so far and the real blockage to the market which is one reason why its going up is precisely looks like we might get a deal on china, we get a deal on china and we get some progress in the usmca, nafta 2, this market will take off even more and even pelosi will start to feel the real pressure especially from the 30 or so seats that are vulnerable, they will want to be able to go back home to say we did more than impeachment which is not that popular, good trade deal done for everybody and behind the scenes, even the unions are saying, not too bad, the administration went out of its way to try to put together a deal that wouldnt get a bad reaction from the unions. Maria i think youre spot on, thats the sentiment that steve bannon had sunday when i spoke with him on sunday morning futures over at fox news channel, basically kickoff to thanksgiving, this is the week that Congress Goes home and they will have to discuss and answer to constituents what have you been doing for the last couple of months, what have you gotten done, nancy pelosi is feeling the heat on usmca. Although, maria, i was surprised by the comments, though, this still to me, usmca would be win for trump obviously. Maria big win. Its worrisome how long its taking it to get to the floor, i dont know pelosi or anybody on the democratic side is in big hurry to get done. Maria news on china, markets seem to be reacting to chinese uncertainty, positive news here, treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin and trade representative lighthizer held a phone call with chinese vice premier yesterday according to Chinese Commerce ministry, the two sides discussed further details of phase 1 trade deal reportedly agree today maintain communication, im going point out here that again this is coming from the Chinese Commerce ministry and i have to be skeptical of anything coming out of china in terms of what this deal is because over and over again the Chinese Commerce ministry has reported in the South China Morning Post that the president is willing to forego those tariffs on december 15th, im not buying until we actually see real concessions on the part of chinese, having said, they had a both sides are playing the game of expectations or putting pressure on the other side and theyve read trumps books on negotiation so they are playing the game too, thats why im happy for the good news but i was happier a week ago when things werent going so well, a sign that they turned things around. Last month or so, feels like theres more communication, i get your point, maria, some of the details are devilish, maybe a little more tit for tat going on. Dagen nobody knows, anything that anybody says what they know about the negotiations, nobody knows, investors are focusing on hardcore numbers, we know that the economy is very weak, what 4 tenths of growth, four tenths of a percent growth, its barely growing in the Fourth Quarter, expectation is that the First Quarter of next year we are lucky to get 2. Maria changes and revises. Dagen based on the numbers. Its four tenths of a percent, investors are focusing on trust consumer, again volatility in the Fourth Quarter because of the shopping and the spending, particularly around this weekend because everything is based on how much americans are outspending but, again, the attitude is good news over bad news this this market. Whats not happening tariffs on auto parts and auto import from europe. Maria europe. They keep that off the table, very good thing. Maria whats the story with usmca, lets take a look at this, President Trump and nancy pelosi sparring over getting trade deal passed. Pelosi is waiting for final commitments before bringing bill to the floor, shes blaming trump, the president weighed in yesterday. Its sitting on Nancy Pelosis desk, shes incapable of moving it it looks like she cant, Everybody Knows its a great deal, she knows its a great deal, she said it, many, many months, pretty soon you will have canada and mexico saying, whats going on, send the agreement back, lets not make the deal. And i wouldnt blame them at all, thats okay, we will just blame nancy. Maria Peter Navarro said this is 200,000 potential jobs left on the table for usmca if you dont get this done, what do you think in. To trumps point this has been on pelosis desk for months, knew mexico is biggest trading partner to not have deal with them is shameful, what im worried about how pelosi has been dragging this off and theyre finding reason to delay this, i dont see why thats going to change. The reason itll change is theres an election coming up, 20 to 30 vulnerable members throughout that we all know who they are, they have to be able to show something and thats why navarro throw it is number, i dont care if its a hundred thousand or 200,000, you can say its a good deal, Union Leaders have been in and precisely because they didnt want the barriers at the end. Shes going to have to bring it up because shes going to have to do the timing and i cant believe shes very happy with the way adam schiff has handled the impeachment thing where people are confused and wondering what is all this about. Maria sentiment on impeachment its not an Impeachable Offense, get over it. Maria 31 districts that donald trump won in 2016 have representative that is need to get reelected in 2020, how are they feeling about this impending vote coming their way to impeach President Trump . Theyre going to have to answer constituents and then theres this, Michael Bloomberg getting the road now, former new york city mayor making first stop in virginia, some of bloombergs democratic opponent were quick to criticize, watch this. Michael bloomberg is making a bet about democracy in 2020, he doesnt need people, he only needs bags and bags of money. Michael bloombergs version of democracy wins then democracy changes and its going to be about which billionaire you can stomach Going Forward. I understand the power of the 1 . Youre seeing that right now literally with mayor bloomberg who has decided to use part of his 55 billiondollar not to buy a yacht, not to buy another home but to buy the United States government. Maria Michael Bloomberg is this new element dagen that seems to be ripping the Democratic Party apart now. Dagen i see my give my time to steve forbes who has been here and run for president , does bloomberg have a shot, i have money figures but you go first, steve. Hes finding out if he thought new york City Politics is nfl, he hasnt seen anything yet, this is without helmets, hitting without helmets, that kind of thing, 40 of the party thinks he personifies evil and he has to do more than say im competent, i can beat trump, being able to beat trump, being able to say that is powerful but he will have to do more to get through because the base of the party badly wants to beat trump they dont like him, period. Dagen in terms of the money that hes thrown at this i found statessic astonishing, National Tv Ad campaign is 30 million, if you take out tom steyer that is more d its about 7 and a half Million Dollars more than the combined tv ad time paid for by the entire democratic field, tom steyer has spent 60 million, but, again, only 22 and a half million if you take out steyer, in one week he has swamped the entire democratic field. He gets name recognition but when he goes into those debates which eventually he will, what are his themes other than im successful and his success, they will throw back at him, what did you, do invented machines for wall street speculateors. Debates will be lively now, i cant wait. [laughter] dagen hes getting a free pass from bloomberg, Bloomberg News is not going to investigate him or any other candidate but investigate donald trump, yes, First Amendment free press, thats awesome. Maria i love the opeds on this on the journal, check it out, bloombergs new rules, new trump rules, James Freeman writes about it in the Editorial Board because the company said we are not going to investigate anything personal about Mike Bloomberg, we will not investigate the family and the same thing to his opponents, but donald trump is fairground. So there you go. We will take a break, google shakeup, Technology Giant fires four employees for protesting, how the u. S. Border wall is involved. It sets precedent that could impact executive privileges for years, the department of justice plans to appeal this, joining us right now Trial Attorney misty morris. Good morning. Maria would they be able to appeal this . What does this look like . 100 , this is going to be appealed, goes up to next high court, thats going to be the Circuit Court and then potentially to Supreme Court, this will jammed up for a while in legal appeals, meaning, that no one is going to be compelled to testify physical that high court, whatever it is comes down with a determination thats final and binding for years to come on these issues. Executive privilege is not written in the constitution, its not written in law, its by custom, you want separation of powers, you cant have Congress Going through your paper basket each day, how do you think the Supreme Court is going to come down on this . I think its an interesting question because theres really no precedent and as you said bill barr came out and said, hey, these are conflicts between executive branch and legislative branch, we dont need the courts to come in and make the determinations, this is something that we should be able to sort out ourselves. Can you imagine if this goes to Supreme Court . Are democrats that out of touch yeah. Maria especially since americans are about to go to the polls. Yes. Maria on their own in 11 months. Do this before america making its own choice. Right, right, absolutely, look, i think i think we could see this, this could go to the Supreme Court, again, we will not get the decision, its probably not going to be relevant to impeachment inquiry ultimately at end of the day because of the timing aspect, nancy pelosi already said she does not want to be held hostage by the courts so they are going to move forward regardless, at the end of the day, what does this mean, well, look, this means a binding decision thats going to impact the balance of powers forever if it gets that far. Do you think the Supreme Court is going to be one of these cases where they punt and say you work it out in effect . Its totally possible, thats an avenue that could happen, right, because they dont necessarily have to make the definitive choice thats going to sit pave the way, they can say its something for executive and legislative branch to work out on a casebycase basis, quite frankly depending on the circumstances, the result could be very different, even with some of the highlevel officials that have been called to testify, the subpoenas that we are looking at here, the analysis as to whether one or the other should testify is unique to the individual, so a large sweeping decision could be problematic for any administration for years to come. Maria dagen, did you want to Say Something . Dagen a couple of things, don mcgann isnt even called in front of conference in the first place regarding impeachment inquiry, he was called because of the Mueller Report that congress wanted him to testify. That was the first thing i was going to say, the other in 1971, congress cant compel a president to appear because promotes perception that the president is subordinant to congress. And one option is you go in front of congress, you dont you dont fight this, you go in front of congress and just say, im not going to say anything, thats one option. And that was left open by the judge, said it would be a question by question basis whether or not there would be a valid reason to assert any applicable privilege, thats another way to do it. Dagen you could say i asserted immunity. Absolutely. And then those privileges are asserted in the course of the questioning, so how this turns out, look, i dont think we will have an answer in the immediate future because this is going to be tied up in the field for quite some time. Maria we will see what that means to average gal and guy out there who are looking at the hearings and thinking this is so confusing, what did donald trump do, unofficial surveys asking people what did donald trump do, they couldnt pinpoint. People dont know it was impeachable. Hard to cut through the noise. Maria welcome back, good Tuesday Morning, thank you so much for joining us, im maria bartiromo, it is tuesday november 26th, top stories right now just before 6 30 a. M. On the east coast, markets are fighting for records, we are taking a look at flat market this morning, hoovering near the flat line, however, right in the ballpark of recordsetting material, it was another recordsetter yesterday on wall street, the dow, the nasdaq and the s p 500 closed alltime fresh new highs, dow at 28,066, s p at 3133 and nasdaq at 8632 unchartered territory, the s p notching 24th record close of the year, today we are looking at a bit of a pullback, fractional move pulling back from those numbers and Global Markets are mixed as well, ftse 100 in london up 7 and a half, cac quarante in paris down 3 points and dax down 27, in asia overnight markets were mixed there, hong kong leader carrie lam wants everybody to go back to normal life following historic election after 6 months of having protesting, violent protests will not give hong kong a way forward, hang sang index down quarter percent overnight. Retailers are kicking off big sales now hope to go draw in consumers a look of who could be the winners and losers, drivers information for sale, Department Department of Motor Vehicles making in a state where lawmakers raised concerns of privacy issue, controversy coming up. Warning from iran, the head of irans revolutionary guard telling a crowd in tehran yesterday if the United States and middle eastern allies cross its, quote, red line, they would be destroyed, Islamic Republic dealing with nationwide protests, iran blaming the United States and the allies of demonstrations despite the fact they raised food prices and the price of food and fuel has been soaring, joining us general jack keane, general, always a pleasure, thank you very much for joining us, lets first start on what iran did, iran raised the price of fuel on top of all other commodities having seen price increase and that brought on the demonstrations, correct . Yeah, absolutely, i mean, exacerbated already tense situation because the economy are squeezing the life out of the people and that brought the people out in a desperate way in streets of iran, something we have not seen in 40 years over 100 cities simultaneously having demonstrations and they are flat blaming the regime, they are blaming the regimes behavior for not providing Effective Governance and not providing an economy thats working properly and they know full well that the regime is taking the money that they received as a result of nuclear deal with Obama Administration and pulled into military operations in lebanon, in syria, in yemen and also in iraq, thats what theyve been up to with the money and now the people are fed up with it. Maria the people really know, the regime blames the United States and they said that if they continue getting involved in iran, that the u. S. And allies been destroyed. What should we take away from that . What is this retaliation that we are expecting and will the u. S. Put sanctions on specific leaders in iran . Yeah, well, a couple of things, this is the first significance that we have seen in the iranian model of domination and control of their own people, of the people in lebanon and also iraqi shiite because massive demonstrations in two countries simultaneously for the same reason, lack of Effective Governance, lack of quality of life for the people that that iran is influenceing. Sanctions are taking toll, maria, in terms of pressure that iran feels, the rhetoric that youre hearing today, doesnt mean that iran will start a war with the United States, they know they will lose that, additional 14,000 troops that we have put into the region likely deterred them from attack us, but i do know, maria, still likely in their play book that they will use military operations to disrupt the oil flow, affect the world economy, try to create a recession if they can that would put pressure in the United States to remove the sanctions, i still believe they are going to move towards that before they move to negotiated compromise with the Trump Administration, but down the road, the only exit they really have here is some kind of deal with the United States, but i dont believe they are there yet. Maria we will keep watching that one, ousted secretary Richard Spencer giving interview since being fired on sunday, listen to this, i have to get your reaction. I dont understand the full definition of war fight, profession of arms has standards that they have to be held to and they hold themselves to. What message does it send . That you can get away with things, we have to have back order and discipline, its the backbone of what we do. Maria good order and discipline, general, he doesnt like the fact that Eddy Gallagher stood there on top of a dead isis fighter and took a picture of it, is that his wrongdoing . Yeah, that actually is wrongdoing. Maria thats about it . Yeah, theres other things that they wanted to review that we are not privy to. The backdrop to this, maria, theres been an issue inside the navy seals for some time with incidents of misbehavior that the chain of command of the seals as well as the Navy Leadership have come to believe not just one off events, that theres actually pattern of behavior that need to be done, a come of significant comprehensive revise on this, there may be a culture problem that has to be dealt with, i believe the navy was taking this action, these are leaders to have seals looking at one of its members to see if the member is still in god standing and its within their right to do that and i dont believe the president should intervene in Something Like that and thats what caused the friction with secretary spencer, spencer, secretary of defense, were all supporting the administrative review to take place at much lower level. Maria i see, he doesnt like the fact that the president got involved, bottom line. In this incident i think it would have been better if he stood aside and let the review take its course. Maria what about the president honoring american hero, conan, canine, honored at the white house yesterday, general, why are dogs like conano so important and are we going to see more dogs join the fight . Well, there are so many out there that we dont see and and this is, i think, testimony to the president doing something that ive never seen before, paying homage to an important part of our Tactical Operations here and how we use dogs, we train these dogs to sniff out bombs and we also train them to sniff out humans, we move them into areas where we suspect there may be humans in hiding and dogs can find them, yeah, this is an important dimension of military operations thats successful for us. Maria what a good boy, i love that, i love this picture and i love how strong they are and we rely, have a happy thanksgiving, Record Number of illegal guns taken off the streets in chicago meanwhile Cheryl Casone be. Maria what are your expectation this is Holiday Season . Shop runner is amazon prime for everyone else, free return, seemless check out, amazon we offered 140 million, biggest Holiday Season ever, but the come compressed to get down in time. They havent woken up to hear it. Im walking, people say ive got to get my shopping done. Maria 6 days is a lot. You think of shipping speeds, if it takes 7 to 10 days to get shipment out to you, third of the shopping window out for ecommerce perspective. Not to mention stuff in backlog, could cost delivery, amazon stuff thats going on with them selling off knockoff items, other stuff they were doing with other products, do you think thats going to effect Going Forward . I think the power that amazon has controlling over half of retail searching, you search when you see a product that looks just like it but doesnt have the same ethical and environmental attribute that is you attributes, they have to be more aware of what they are buying. Dagen amazon is not acting in the best interest of their customer, when you search for anything, namebrand product and not just all, its across the spectrum of goods, they are promoting other brands and those are your top searches. Theres a lot of room for you and then everybody else to come in and really represent the customer, oh, youre looking for this, here it is, here is the best price on it. Right now its so easy to shop on amazon that you can understand consumer that understands wants to shop there, hard for them to compete, 140 retailers and allow folks to have the seemless ship out and more what you call coopt, people coming together against the big guy . Look, one of the big things we saw this year in 2019 and will happen in 2020, the arms race in amazon, theres sort of divided, united we stand and divided we fall mentality, how retailers can aggregate power, again, brick and Mortar Retail is 90 of sales. Years ago you got atms, banks got together and created their own syndicates. Maria generation z boosting spending year over year mobile shopping also on the rise many still head to the mall early friday morning according to shop runner, so you finish thanksgiving dinner, see all the sales the next day, give us the generational divide and how people are shopping today. Boomers are the biggest spenders, retailers have to be sure they are relevant to the people with the most money but gen z is growing the fastest, any model where the incumbents has the scale but you cant alienateuate one and you have been to be relevant. I have not seen very much much black friday stuff so far. Green friday. Something, is it as relevant as it used to be . Its not as relevant maria people are shopping all day long. They started in october. Theres the experience of black friday, family and friend traditions, people going out and getting a great deal, if you can offer something compelling, you will get people. Dagen a loft the Apparel Companies and apparel retailers, the sales broke last week and its up 30 to 40 off, every time it breaks its usually not good for the retailers and part of it is barneys is going out of business. Shortened Holiday Season, retailers are trying to pull some sales forward, number 2, you do have desperate retailers that are saying this is my existential Holiday Season, i will pull sales forward. Maria welcome back, Cracker Barrel taking it on the road for 50th anniversary unveiling tinny home away from home store and it is right outside our studios in fox square this morning, janice dean is out there as well, janice, good morning. Im maria bartiromo. It is tuesday, november 26. Your top stories right now. There is new optimism for a u. S. China trade deal this morning. Top negotiators of on both sides held a phone call overnight. Chinese media is reporting that the two sides discussed core concerns and they did reach a consensus on solving related problems. Markets are fighting for another round of records this morning, take a look. Its pretty much a flat story but we are coming off of unchartered territory. Dow industrials exactly where it closed yesterday which was a new record high. The s p is down just a fraction as is the nasdaq. Yesterday the dow, nasdaq and s p 500 closed at fresh alltime highs, pretty incredible here with the dow up 190 points yesterday. The dow scoring its 13th record close of the year. Checking Global Markets this morning, take a look at european indices. Fq100 is up 3 points, the cac is down 3 and dax index is lower by 25. In asia overnight markets were mixed as well. Carrie lam said she wants everybody to go back to normal life following the historic election. She said violent protests wont give hong kong a way forward. The nikkei average in japan was up a third of a percent. Alibabas big hong kong debut, they had the biggest ipo of the year, the stock jumping on the first day of trading. The force is strong with this one, a disney plus original smashing streaming records as millions continue signing up for disney plus. Joining me to break it down, dagen mcdowell, Asset Management chief Investment Officer, scott martin and former republican president ial candidate steve forbes. Lets go to Lauren Simonetti, shes got the latest on best buy earnings. Lauren the preholiday frenzy is here. Best buy just reporting earnings, its a double beat. Earnings per share, 1. 13 a share, revenue, 9. 76 billion. Look at the stock up 5 in the premarket because best buy raised the full year outlook. 60 of products from best buy come from china. They are working to reduce that to 40 in september. Some of their core items like smart watches and tvs were hit with tariffs. Obviously, wall street likes the strategy Going Forward. Maria were looking for any indicator of the consumer here. Weve got retail sales last week, still thats the strongest part of this economy. It is. But is a tale of two cities. Some of the retailers are doing extremely well, others are struggling. So its not prosperity for all. Maria this used to be the product during the christmas holiday. Thats right. Maria youve got to buy technology, go to best buy. Best bay ma buy may not be s significant. Best buy these days is kind of that forgotten name out there, now that you have target, walmart, amazon emerging. So good on them. Maria well keep watching that. The stock is up almost 5 now. Its bouncing around but pretty strong this morning on the heels of that report. Our top story this hour is the impeachment fight. The department of justice vowing to appeal after a judge orders former White House Counsel Don Mcgahn to testify. A federal judge ruled if he wants to assert executive privilege to avoid testifying, he would need to appear before congress first. There is growing concern about democrats seeking reelection in districts that voted for President Trump in 2016 when the time comes for the full house to vote on impeachment. Were showing those districts right now. There are 31 districts that President Trump won that democrats need to get reelected in. Joining us now is tennessee congressman chuck fleischman. Its good to see you this morning. Thanks for being here. Maria, good morning and happy thanksgiving early to all your panel. Maria and to you. What kind of a reception did you face from constituents . Ive been making the case that here we are in thanksgiving week, congress has gone home for thanksgiving and they have to answer the question from constituents, what have you been doing for the last two months. Well, fortunately ive been working very hard on you appropriation issues, trying to get a budget passed. We finally have our allocations between the house and the senate. But to answer your question, my constituents overwhelmingly support President Trump from the beginning, they have felt as i have felt that this democratic forray has been fundamentally flawed. I am a lawyer by profession and ive said from the inception that not only would i not take this impeachment issue to the court, the United States senate, i would not even walk to the courthouse with the facts theyre presenting. Maria let me ask you about specifically what youre doing in terms of appropriations. Because once again theres another extension for a month. We seem to be living from continuing resolution to continuing re resolution. Tell us what you see in terms of allocating the proper money for the defense as well as pulling in the spending as we face 22 trillion in debt. Whats the answer, sir . Its an excellent question. Obviously, we are planning the discretionary side of the budget. Whats driving our deficits are mandatory spending. The fiscal year began october 1st. We had a continuing resolution until last week. Weve had another continuing resolution until december 20t december 20th. What that means is we have begun to erode into the fiscal financial year. That is not good. So unless we come to an agreement with the senate, with the white house, we will not have a budge he et for the year and we risk a yearlong continuing resolution. That is not good government. Obviously, thats preferable to a Government Shutdown, but the American People deserve us to do what ive been doing, with colleagues of mine on the appropriations committee, working hard to get a budget if place so we can fund the government. I think we will be able to get it done but this impeachment inquirely, with so much needed in america, whether its usmca, has been a disaster for the democrats. Its been bad government and its setting bad precedent i think for future president s and for our republic. Congressman, this leads to a larger question. Weve seen weve had a budget crisis of one sort or another for 40 years since the budge reforms of the mid1 mid1970s. Is there any movement to try to overhaul the whole process where committees pass their budgets and you get appropriations process instead of all of this pile it all on at the end and spending nobody can get a grip on, are there structural changes people are looking at seriously . Absolutely, steve. And you are so correct. The American People most of them dont realize when i tell them that in the 70s we changed the way that america did its budgets. This was in the wake of the watergate situation where there was a loss of confidence in the executive branch and government in general, which was sad. In order to restore that for the American People, weve got to get to a system that works. The system that you alluded to may have worked four or five times in 40 years. Thats ridiculous. Its not working. I think weve got to get back to fundamentally change the system and i really think weve got to put more emphasis on the legislative branch where the Founding Fathers wanted us to be more fiscally responsible. We look to president s, whether republican or democratic, to submit a budget, to lead the way. I really think thats the purview and the constitutional area of the legislature. Are you and your colleagues mulling legislation to at least try to get this discussion going for the next session of congress . Well, we would love to do that. Unfortunately, there is bitter gridlock as we can see, steve, through the impeachment foray and the like. Its going to be very difficult but thats where i think the American People need to stand up and folks like you need to be talking as you are about the fundamental flaws in our budgetaries process so we can get back to being more fiscally responsible. I cant stress enough that how about allowing the president to have the powers which they used to have. A long time ago we gave meaning a Republican House gave bill clinton a line item veto which many governors have. Unfortunately, in my view, the Supreme Court nullified that, they viewed it as a violation of separation of church and im sorry, a violation of powers and i remember individually having this vividly having this discussion with late Justice Scalia about that i think we need to get back to staying in our lanes constitutionally, getting back to doing the peoples business. Maria you sure do. That includes usmca. Im sorry to interrupt. It includes usmca. The president and House Speaker nancy pelosi sparred over getting a trade deal passed. Pelosi said shes waiting for final commitments from the Trump Administration before bringing the bill to the floor. The president weighed in at the white house yesterday. Listen to what he said. Usmca, i can tell you its sitting on Nancy Pelosis desk. Thats the deal, the trade deal, the great trade deal for the farfarmers, manufacturers, works of all types including union. Its sitting on Nancy Pelosis desk. Shes incapable of moving it. It looks like she cant. She keeps saying she wants to get it done. Were talking about many, many months sitting on her desk, no votes. She doesnt have to help with the democrats because theyre going to vote for it, most of them. I guess all of the republicans are going to vote for it. But the system is, the way the system works, she has to put it up for a. Maria whats the story, congressman. What is holding this up . Are we going to see usmca passed this year or no . I hope so. Nancy pelosi is holding up. The president is right. This would pass by overwhelmingly bipartisan majority in the house and senate and the president will sign it. Whats most important, it will replace nafta and the frailities of the nafta agreement and give the United States, canada and mexico a very strong trading agreement that the American People, the American Worker wants and needs. So lets just hope that nancy pelosi will put country over party, get it on the floor, give President Trump the credit that he deserves for sticking to his promises and getting a great trade deal negotiated. Maria thats funny. Shes not going to give him any credit. Thats the scary thing. This will be a loss for her. Maria how many legislative days do you have left in washington this year . 10 . Probably more than that. Thats because of the december remember, were going to be in until the 20th because of the continuing resolution. Thats when it runs out. That third week, we will be in dc. Maria well leave it there. Good to see you this morning. Thanks so much. A pleasure. Thank you. Maria coming you up this morning, weve got the founder and ceo of b a gogo. Former senior stub hub was yesterday. Former Senior Advisor to george w. Bush, karl rove it here and former Federal Reserve chairman, Alan Greenspan on the record, breaking markets. Quick break and then alibaba shares are popping this morning, Company Stocks are jumping in their hong kong trading debut. Well tell you about that disney dominance, disney plus takes the streaming top spot as a star wars actor makes a near colossal blunder. Details when we come back. Stay with us. What do you mean. Tell your doctor about any changes in medicines youre taking. The most common side effects are swelling of the arms and legs and confusion. We spoke up and it made all the difference. Ask your parkinsons specialist about nuplazid. Maria welcome back. Futures fighting off new records, take a look. Dow industrials now in unchartered territory after hitting an alltime high yesterday. The nasdaq is up three quarters of a point. Looks like we may very well see another record high out of the gate this morning. It will be a busy couple of days on the economic calendar. Later this morning we get a reading on Consumer Confidence, plus the Kaye Schiller home price index alibaba officially listed on the hong kong exchange. Susan lee covering the story with details. Originally pulled back in august because of the ongoing hong kong protests. But you alibaba went ahead selling shares in hong kong, which is closer to home. It was a listing ceremony. Jack mau not in attendance. The ceo of alibaba also there as well. And they raised 11. 2 billion. They might green shoe it, whichs is to sell more shares because of the performance, up to 13 billion raised. This is the largest listing in hong kong since 2010. That brings the cash pile of alibaba up to 43 billion. There are some parts of the business that arent making money. We know thats the Online Retail part doing well, but when it comes to food delivery, when it comes to alibaba pictures and Entertainment Division and the youtube of china, thats actually requiring money because they are still not making money in those specific businesses. But this is something that jack mau i guess is a fulfillment of his vision. He wanted to list the shares in hong kong which is closer to their home where people might understand their business better. The New York Stock Exchange listing was supposed to go to hong kong, because of the share class structure back then didnt allow for super Voting Rights for the owners and founders, they decided to go to new york instead. The takeaway is this is a vote of confidence for hong kong. Whether or not theyre forced to do this by the government, they basically had to backstop what was happening in the city, to give confidence that we still want to be here and hong kong is still one of the largest stock markets in the world. Better late than never i guess on that listing. You know whats nice about alibaba in the United States, at least that worked out okay. It wasnt a bad listing as far as the stock performed pretty well. Nice to see them getting a good pop. They outperformed apa pell, google, facebook apple, google, facebook in the month. How is ali pay doing . Thats not part of alibaba. That was taken out on its own. All of it . All of it. Its a separate entity. Ali pay on its own is worth one of the largest Payment Companies in the world, worth tens of billions. Alibaba itself is more about the retail arm and as we know, the Chinese Consumer is still spending as you saw in one single day, selling 38 billion. Dagen you how would alibaba spend some of that cash . You mentioned the money losing businesses. Would acquisitions be on deck, sotospeak . Thats a good question. We know they have been acquiring a few companies. Im not sure it was money making for them or a venture to make money in the future. They say they want to reinvest in delivery companies. They have the uber eats, the food delivery company, they also want to invest in ali alibaba pictures, entertainment is a big venture for them. I think there are more screens in china than there are here in the u. S. So thats something that they see as a growth sector for them. Maria jack ma is an important soldier for the chinese government. They acquired the South China Morning Post. Now it is a total mouth piece for the chinese government. Didnt jack ma come out and reiterate, i am a part of the communist party . Remember that. In china, i think most of the have you to be part and subscriber to the communist party and a lot of these private companies, alibaba being the largest in china, will say that we are a private entity and they try to i guess they try to moat themselves as much as they can across the government. Maria im pointing it out because doing your ipo on hong kongs Stock Exchange today in the face of six months of protesters is trying to legit mise whats going on in hong kong, the water is fine, come on in, even though people are in the streets and questioning the authoritative rule of china in hong kong. It may be a lucrative year for ipos if aramco decides to go to hong kong as well. The stock market is up 5 despite the ongoing chaos. Retail is in focus, a number of retailers set to report earnings later today, including dollar tree, Abercrombie Fitch. Best buy and burlington reported this morning. Best buy reported a double beat. The stock is up. Its been a mixed earnings season for other retailers. We want to take a look at retail going into the holidays. Macys, bed, bath and beyond and kohls saw their stocks taking a big hit after a reporting their earnings. Joining us now is rick helsenbine. What are you seeing in retail this morning . Tell us how you would characterize this space. The last time i had a chance to be here and talk to you we were worried that price increases would depress sales. However, weve been able to l hold price increases down and sales for the fiveday Holiday Season, just about half of america will be shopping, and sales are going to be quite good. Overall, through the entire Holiday Season, were anticipating upwards of 4 . Could be as high as 730 billion on Holiday Season. Hillary hillary. Maria 4 for what . Through the whole Holiday Season, not just the five days for black friday. Seriously, on black friday alone, millions of people are going to shop, estimate 135 Million People will shop on one day. Maria wow. Thats a good number. Look, we have 2 million more americans working this year than last year. And if you look at the conundrum we were in last year with the Government Shutdown and the market being a tepid and consumr confidence being off, were going into this year with the price of gas being low, which has a lot to do with how much cash you have in your pocket, Consumer Confidence is fairly stable. People are working. 2 million more people in the workforce. So people will be spending this Holiday Season. Go out and shop, shop, shop. Maria i like it. What about next year . Especially if tariffs dont really good question. These tariffs weve sort of been able to navigate through them, although theyve been quite painful to those of us who bring goods into the country and to retailers who bring it in directly. We got through the Holiday Season. Were happy and everyone in asia knows what weve done. Now we go into next year. Weve got to have these tariffs go away. I mean, its time. Theyve served their purpose. President got everyone to the table. Weve talked and if phase one of this tariff and there was positive movement again last night and the day before, if theyre to go away then we need the tariffs to go away and that will be very meaningful for the economy. Dagen is the bankruptcy of barneys and Liquidation Sale thats going on, is that putting pressure on other retailers . Its luxury, but luxury comes in a lot of shapes and forms. Is that putting pressure on other retailers to discount even earlier than previous Holiday Seasons. Barnys, forever 21, you go down the list of bankruptcies, weve had in this year 9,000 announced store closings against 5,000 for all of last year. So retail has been under pressure and tariffs are part of it, but a lot of it is just adjusting to the new millennial customers. Do you think the goings on in dc is affecting the retail buyer . I did, but now i dont. Because theres more money out there and people are spending. People are tuned into the economy when everything goes south at the same time and right now were in an upbeat mode so were okay. Were okay. Just watch out for next year. Maria well what are the categories you think will see the biggest increases in terms of sales . What are people buying . People are buying electronics, theyre buying clothes. You know, you may not believe this but the average american buys eight pair of shoes and 68 garments every year. Maria eight pair ofs shoes. I can beat you on that. And prices right now, particularly in things like outerwear are fantastic and i suggest everyone get to the store very quickly before your size is gone. Dagen why . Why are prices so reasonable for outer wear . Whats going on in terms of the discounting . I think the Retail Community is a lot smarter than you gives us credit for. We saw all this happening months and months ago with the prices going up. We frontloaded a lot of goods. You could tell how busy the ports were several months ago and how not busy they are you now. Dagen youve got too much inventory. We have a little too much inventory. People are pricing we have six less days to shop in this Holiday Season. So everybody thinks black friday is this coming friday. It started on sunday. Look, my dog knows its black friday, dragged me to petco yesterday. Everybody knows its time to shop. Dagen tau peril dis the apparel discounting started early last week all the sales broke in the Department Stores and you apparel retailers. Again, you cant avoid it if you shop online. Ill tell you, its a good time of the year to be a really smart shopper. There are good deals out there. Go in early, go before your size is gone. And shop. It helps the economy. It helps everybody. Maria my problem is, when i see a sale, ive got to buy it even if i dont need it. Maria, thats the right thing to do. Maria okay. See it, buy it, you can always bring it back. Maria did my part for this economy. Rick, good to have you. Thank you. Coming up, another wall street mega deal, the ceo of vagogo is here. An American Made product even Jerry Seinfeld had to argue over. Oh, no. Go ahead. I couldnt. Come on, take the pen. I cant take it. Do me a personal favor. Take the pen. Im uncomfortable. Your top tore vies right now. Markets are pushing towards another record high this morning. Dow futures up 14 points, s p 500 exactly where it closed yesterday, nays a dabbing up 2 andahalf. This is all unchartered territory. We are going to see another record high right out of the gate this morning after another record day on wall street yesterday. The dow, nasdaq, s p 500 closed at fresh alltime highs yesterday. A gain of 112 340eu7b9 112 poine nasdaq, new high, 8632 on the nasdaq, that is the dow is the 13th record close of the year. Global markets this morning are mixed. Take a look at the fq1 p hundred100 up 6andahalf. In asia markets were mixed as well. Hong kong leader carrie lam says she wants everybody to go back to normal life following the historic election and six months of protests. Lam said that violent protests will not give hong kong a way forward. We have breaking news on Abercrombie Fitch. Lets get to Lauren Simonetti with the numbers. Lauren stock down, a double miss. Earnings per share 23cents, misses by a penny. The stock just turned higher. Revenue did miss also, came in at 863. 5 million. Lets split the screen and take a look at dicks sporting goods. This stock is soaring right now in the premarket. It was a double beat, 52cents a share. The estimate was 38cents. That a big beat, stock up 8 . 1. 96 billion in the quarter, also better than expected. They raised their full year guidance, their same store sales grew 6 . Theyre doing well with the premium brands, the nike exclusive sneakers and yeezy line. Dollar tree, this is a mixed report. Revenue better than expected at 5. 75 billion. Slightly better than expected. But they had a miss on the bottom line at 1. 08 a share versus 1. 13. Investors not liking that, stock down 3 and a third percent. Back to you. Maria thank you so much. Well watch retail this morning. Our top story this half hour is merger mania, 70 billion worth of deals announced around the world yesterday alone including one in the secondhand ticket market. Ebay sold stub hub to viagogo for 4. 05 billion. When the deal was first reported i was speaking with Carlisle Group cofounder David Rubenstein about it who is an investor. Watch this. I should disclose im a personal investor in viagogo so im familiar with the transaction and i suspect it will go forward. They have been under some challenge. There have been activists in the stock. They suggested that stub hub be sold. I suspect thats probablies whats going to happen. It hasnt been formally announced yet. I suspect thats whats going to happen. I think an a auction has been run and i suspect some deal will get done. Maria it was announced. And joining us is the founder and ceo of viagogo, eric baker. A thanks for joining us. Why was stub hub so important and valuable to you. Were in the live events business. The vision we have is consumers will want to buy any ticket for any event anywhere in the world in their language and currency. Viagogo has great distribution. Stub hub is an iconic brand in the United States, it made a lot of sense to us. Maria right now whether its media, like television, its all about live. You can watch streaming, thats one area of entertainment thats doing really well. The other air a ya is live. The live event is something that will command a premium for you, right . No question. I mean, whats amazing is even with the advent of technology and dings. HillaryDifferent Things going oe of being at a concert, a festival, a sporting event and the emotional connection. Thats why its extremely valuable to be in a space with that kind of growth. Theres other names i use sometimes if i look to get tickets, vivid seats, seat geek. Who is the biggest competitor for you guys . Obviously, look, any time youre in a marketplace business you have to compete every day to give consumers and fans the best experience so they can have a seamless experience, get what they want. I think the he key thing that we see is the shift has been away from a traditional sort of experience back when people had to go to the box office or ticketmaster, you go right to the venue but the ease and convenience that a stub hub provides is at a premium. Dagen you founded the company. You havent been there in 12 years. Something like that. Its been a while. Dagen what does it look like now that youre acquiring it . How would you where is it . Are you happy . Clearly, youre happy enough to want to take it on. But what needs fixing since youve been gone 12 years. Maria its such an important point dagen makes. You founded stub hub but left before it was sold to ebay. Its an interesting story. If it was up to me, i would have never sold in in the first place. It would have probably saved me money. We are in the resale market. Its been phenomenal the way ebay has grown, a lot of credit to them. We believe they built one of the iconic brands, not just in ticketing but in the consumer internet. If its not broke, you dont have to fix it. I think this is about the ability of bringing two complementary assets together to get a phenomenal global distribution. How much of sales in the future do you see overseas versus u. S. . I think the skys the limit. Obviously stub hub today i think which people know is about 5 billion of gross Merchandise Sales and thats predominantly all in the u. S. Our business is billions of dollars in sales globally. I think thats going to continue to grow. The nature of live events is that now everywhere in the world its really an uptick as people get disposable income, they want to go to concerts, sporting events. We hope if they get to mars we look forward to selling tickets there. Dagen what i find frustrating about Live Entertainment that you need to push those experiences at me in order for me to buy and want to attend in the same way that any other kind of Retail Company would. Whether its shoes, Womens Clothing and the like. What are you doing on that note to pull more people in by saying you like this, you like this and still respect peoples privacy. Yeah, no, i think a couple things there. I think one as you point out, with technology we should be able to get you what you want, when you want it. So i think when live events, one of the shortcomings has been actually you want to go, you just didnt know that it was going on. You didnt know how to get a ticket. Dagen tell me where i need to be rather than make me hunt for it. The great thing about the passion of live events and the product as opposed to some other products is oftentimes youve got people using technology to tell you about something that you dont want, know you want, have no idea what it is. Here, people are like their favorite artist this town, they want to go to an event. The reason they miss it because they havent been informed about it so we think theres huge opportunity in that. Maria how do you expand it . Are there areas that are not live that you could actually tap into that you could expand the business of stub hub . I think its exciting because if you think about the passion and the a affinity that people have in sports entertainment, there are tons of Different Things that sort of falls out of that whether its merchandise, whether its people going to dine before the game or transportation, these types of things. Made in america, when you use a fisher space pen, youre writing with a piece of history. These pens have been used on nasa space flights starting with the famed apollo 7 mission in 1968, the family owned and operated company has been revolutionizing the way america writes for years with pens that write in any condition and almost any surface. Joining me now is the companys Vice President , matt fisher. Matt, its great to have you. Thanks for joining us. I love to hear the family stories. Its terrific that your family is running this company. Tell us why these pens are so special. After the fire on apollo one, my grandfather realized the need for a nonhazardous, reliable writing instrument that could work in the gravity free vacuum space. In 1966 he developed the ink cartridge that will write in freezing cold, boiling water, it is used by anybody that demands reliable writing instrument. Maria theyre on every nasa flight. Were they also used by russians in the height of the space race. They very much were. My grandfather spent a million of his own dollars, a million of his own dollars and since then the russians adopted it shortly after. Maria how fantastic. You and your father visited the white house for the made in america product showcase over the summer. How was that . Tell us about that. It was a wonderful experience visiting the white house, my father representing the great state of nevada. One american manufacturer was invited to represent each 50 states at the white house to support and promote the importance and advantage of being americanmade. Maria so is there can we write something to see how it absolutely. You can write upside down and under water especially as you see here. Maria check this out. Hes writing under water. Can you get this shot . Heres the pen and weve got water in this and the pad is there. Theyll write anywhere, everywhere and anywhere. Maria the way it writes it so smooth . Whats the trick . Its the ink and the refill and the ball point. My grandfather revolutionized the tip and the ball. Maria how proud you must be. Im extremely grateful. Maria is this a collectors item. This is 50yearold refill that writes today. We have an estimated 100 year shelf life, writes three times longer than the average pen. Theyre the most functional and reliable pen in and out of this world. Maria i have to say, writing my name on the paper underwater was so incredibly smooth. How often do you have to change and put a refill in. Depends on how much you write but compared to standard ball point pens, our last three times longer. Maria this is such a narrow subject, narrow product line. How do you stay in business with such a narrow product line an thrive the way you have for so many years . We have that niche. And we have american craftsmanship. You know, maria you produce in america. Yes, absolutely. Over 80 models, you can buy them on spacepen. Com. Maria thank you so much, a new thread in impeachment inquiry, federal judge ruling former White House Council don mcgahn must comply with subpoena from a house judiciary committee, vowing to a pale launders he reverses stand on impeachment saying she sees no value impeaching a president so close to Election Year smart woman there brenda lawrence, fatigue over impeachment in harris poll democratic voters paying close attention falling 5 Percentage Points former sr. , adviser to president george w. Bush, karl rove what i said there about to go into the polls, less than a year away from naming president ial election, and to do this show, and, you know, over and over again about, impeachment try to take President Trump down, seems to me, is sort of a smack in the face to the American People because they are about to go make their decision. It is there are two smacks one smack trying to get rid of less than a year away from election, but a bigger smack in that we want to overturn the results of the last election for what doesnt seem to be in many minds ebb about about Impeachable Offense or activity democrats have to prove as in 1973 and 1947 president was worthy being removed on a bipartisan fwlaz that is consensus time for nixon to go he went. There is no similar consensus bipartisan consensus this time around and the democrats dont seem to be all that concerned about it at least leadership doesnt maybe one Michigan Congress member does, share their enthusiasm, for removing the president a year before election, but the leadership certainly seems hellbent on removing him. Jeff van drew from new jersey told me he is a no going to vote no in impeachment if it comes to the floor a lot of colleagues are raising concerns, saying look what are we doing here meanwhile, youve got bloomberg hitting a road your take here form new york city mayor billionaire businessman 2020 Campaign Stop in virginia yesterday take a look watch. I know how to win because i have done it time and again. We need a president who is ready to lead us where we need to go in a way that we can be proud of, i am that person. And that is why i am running. I will be the only candidate in this race who isnt going to take a penny from anyone, and will work for just as i did for 12 years, in new york city hall. Maria some bloombergs democratic opponents quick to creative karl watch this. Michael bloomberg is making a bet about democracy in 2020. He doesnt need people he only needs bags and bagging of money. Michael bloombergs version of democracy wins then democracy changes. And it is going to be about which billionaire you can stomach Going Forward. I understand the power tf one percent. And you are seeing that right now literally with with mayor bloomberg. Who has decided to use part of his 55 billion dollars not to buy a yacht not to buy another home not to buy a fancy but to buy United States government. Maria karl give us the implications of Michael Bloomberg in this run. Well the number one implication is that he is going to success up a lot of media time, and draw wrath of his of some of his democratic opponents the media is fascinated with him because he is the billionaire mayor of the former mayor of new york media all know him a useful story interesting story to follow at least for a while. The opponents love this, warren and sanders, and particularly, but Kamala Harris others beating up on bloomberg helps improve your resume among a hardcore left wing glakts nothing to lose by beneath up on the former mayor of new york what gets me is that i am not certain, that the bloomberg strategy really has a chance of winning. It is very unconvenoxygenal not competing person to person or organization in iowa, hampers South Carolina nevada four early contests instead were going to buy lots of tv ads in stated that start voting on march 3rd we have seen this happen before, Rudy Giuliani said well i am not getting involved in early contest i am waiting till we get to florida by the time contest got to florida, republican primary supporters had sort of settled what field was rudy wasnt part of it i suspect same is goinging true for bloomberg i have Great Respect for him worked with him in 2004 Republican National convention hosted by him in new york city, but i am not certain his electoral peel from a line somewhere in the middle of the hudson river to a line approaching the the city board of palo alto or berkeley california in the middle of the country im just not certain saying i can get things done case i was mayor of new york is sufficient even for democrat primary voters. Karl what are themes what compelling message does he have that will overtake a biden or Kamala Harris not to mention sanders and warren just a o good mayor that is not going to cut it you know it. Exactly i can get things done, and west of the 88, remember that more efficient. Exactly. Exactly well remember, from west of the hudson troifr east of berkeley california a lot of what people remember about him that he was the the man stayed mayor of new york, get rid of your big. Popular in between hudson river and berkeley california no, i am not certain there is a compelling message we will see if advertising dollars can create a compelling image compelling message frankly i am dubious about it. Tv ads dont work as well as they used to in politics a social media now a ground game all that goes together. Dagen to that point karl not just tv is it, it is going to be again. Dagen it is going to be a massive digit push gugs who mastered digital. Donald trump. One problematic thing for President Trump out of all this if bloomberg invests in digital to the extent going to invest data if he turns over to the democratic nominee Democratic National committee will improve their digital arsenal beyond what it would be one negative news for President Trump out of this and i have talked to people inside Trump Organization they recognize that the democratic data operation is nowhere near as good as thursday but spending 100, 200 Million Dollars on data, will help improve if if bloomberg turns it over and if democrats draw on that information. Dagen i had a moment watching bret baier show last night i thought for the people who wear makeup for a living sit in front of a tv camera and talk maybe we ought to just look at this and say you know what . It is a wide, wide world, and because trump changed everything you just never know who you this is going to shake out. And Mike Bloomberg has been every town organization, very, very strong on gun control probably stronger than any other democratic candidates. Maria that is one of his marriage platforms right . What are other platforms . Where is he on trade President Trump and House Speaker nancy pelosi sparring over bringing u. S. Us to a vote says House Democrats within wraeng of a deal waiting for final commitment from Trump Administration, so she is trying to put it back on him the president wade in yesterday said this watch. It is sitting on Nancy Pelosis desk. She is incapable of moving it, it looks like she cant Everybody Knows it is a great deal she knows it is a great deal she said it will keeps saying she wants to get it done but talking about many, many months pretty soon you are going to have canada and mexico say what is going on . Send the agreement back lets not make the deal. I wouldnt blame them at all that is okay. We will just blame nancy. What do you think do you think this gets done with 10 or 12 or 13 legislative kaz to go in the year for congress . Well i am not certain it is done no 2019 but gets done i think relatively early in 2020 if it doesnt my understanding is they are relatively small differences between House Democrats asking for and what Administration Currently has, lighthizer has done very good job negotiating through thorny issues negotiators for the house led by chairman ways and Means Committee have been acting in good faith we have drama between pelosi and president at the end of the day it is to the advantage of both of them, to get it done and to the great disadvantage of House Democrats if they dont get it done i think gets done but early next year. Maria we will see about that, Bob Lighthizer has certainly been on it, go ahead karl. Before before we go two things one is i want to say is anybody else disturbed by the fact steve forbes seems to know so much about bart simpson Christmas Cards. Have that is a little disturbing finally i couldnt go on the issue of pens pilot varsity about disposable less than 3 bucks fantastic, everybody has their own pen fetish ive got pilot varsity. And to you as welcome we have been talking about wealth transfer that forbes wrote about 68 trillion dollars i think you wrote about going to be transferred from parents to baby boomer parents to millennial kids generational kids say will with you houses baby boomers vacating houses on the market tell us what your expectations baby boomers, the trends for the baby boomers they want to buy so you know like, when we had recession they will not buy millennials, they see parents losing they are buyers if they have money, they dont necessarily need the house that is 20,000 feet, and suburbia they like communities they like the starbucks they want yoga want everything at finger tips i have called calls from developers they are working on smart cities you think city they said, all along oh, millennials only want to life in the cities when 25 and 30 you want to live in the city but 35, because they got married later had children later, and you have two children, and ub want a thousand square feet apartment in city look at suburbs a lit i think suburbs i tell if you are going to work with communities, and they have to stay open later you are going to see a lot of revised what i call plans, communities that you see all over the country, but just kind of a spin on it for today. I think that, you know, there is in that same article that they say that oh they will have so much debt wont be able to afford anything their buying you know what . I lived through recession of 90s, 19 Interest Rates i bought refi unanimoused. Mortgage rates following 19 , 30 year if i could, about 3. 66 lowest in six weeks 15 year fix 3. 15 existing home sales increased not all areas of the countryseeing gains midwest starting to increase in october sales declined northeast and west, assess for us, what the market is doing but first how important has rockbottom rates been incredibly important refinishing community we have been talking about 19 Interest Rates could get a mid century modern home nep connecticut for 300,000 dollars, today that home costs 1. 6 Million Dollars, because, again, prices have to come down higher rates go that is some stickiness in prices sellers right dottie shoot me down if wrong rates so low i am keeping prices here they cant move these properties. Like, everything else, people got used to low rates i was never used to them kept on saying on the way, they are bound to go up soon but i have been wrong two years, i think people just got to place a new new i dont think that puts an impetus on when you hear Interest Rates will be going up all of a sudden a flood of people trying to buy. You dont see market weakening. I see the first look recent level market across United States of america is solid. Okay . It is the higher end, i think a lot has to do with an election i think scomreem skoo not sure they want to wait see if economic policies of Trump Administration stay. Exactly. Or going to be about become socialists i did on social media, you cant tax any more it is enough taxes i see so many baby boomers leaving if they dont have businesses here because of the taxes people will pay more but then we talked about going to tax you are an american Success Story you started out as a broker within two decades became ceo, of the second he largest independently Real Estate Company in the country by volume all the time believing in yourself that one point you knew you could run a Real Estate Company you couldnt find anybody so you borrowed money to make it happen even while people told you you wouldnt succeed talk to us about that how have you done it viewers at home love Success Stories entrepreneurship, you have done all this insurers. Alan greenspan is here thanks so much for joining us. Thank you, nice to see you, too. So what is your take on backdrop in terms of the economy, issue are markets getting it will right here where we are hitting record after record in terms of you know basing what they obviously, see as strong backdrop . How do you see things . Well, by the fact that there is an everincreasing expectation that the issue of tariffs on the tariff wars are going to get resolved because there is no question that the type of tariff structure that we have had and customs flowing in significant deterrent to Economic Activity the chinese u. S. Relationship the major one by far in the world, are can come together so that there is a maximum amount of interaction and trade the expectation is that the economies will rise faster and it is reflected in the stock price. Maria so you do think that a deal will get done, because it has to get done because he these or two largest economies and good for both economies is what you are saying. It is good for both economies but you are asking me to make a political forecast, and it is these days, is not the easiest things to do. Maria dont worry let me ask you your take on manufacturing dr. Greenspan looking at report right here from connerstone macroan independently refer firm meaded by nancy lazar writes this week, that u. S. Ism manufacturing picturing ms. Next is likely to mover up to 52 next several months indicated by models she is expecting ism and Global Manufacturing purchasing managers are turning up she thinks we have seen bottom what do you say . A i suspect the same thing. But lets remember, that the very long term outlook is no better than it has been recently, if anything, it has gotten worse. But it is the case that there are indications in the short run, that the economy is coming off its dullness if i may put it that way, not that it is going to rocket forward, but it is hold its own if anything it is better than so far better than i expected. Maria okay. So where will the rebound be in your view is it manufacturing . Is it the Capital Expenditures capex one area that has been under pressure because of what you just said. The trade uncertainty. It is basically both. The key is Capital Investment the reason that is the decline in the rate of growth in Capital Investment has been a significant factor causing dullness, in the economy. And so it is Capital Investment first. Manufacturing is remember a declining share of the recent market and many cases, hightech has been more service than anything else. And as a consequence of that how do you classify things is sometimes slightly arbitrary. Maria you used to talk all the fwiem Wealth Effects dr. Greenspan where when stock market goes up people feele wealthier a kribel spend more money feeling better wealth effect is real do you see wealth effect now that were seeing record highs in the major n iddices o one thing we see 10 rise in stock prices statistically creates one percent rise in gdp, so it is basically very clearly in the data. So as the market rises, in a way it is selfperpetuating at least in part, and the when you couple that with the trade data problems that we have been having then you can see that were getting several different sides and increase in the Underlying Forces driving the world economies first, and ours next because up until now, it has been pretty miserable. U. S. Has been at a 2 annual rate of growth. Which is really quite unusual for us. Were going o to europe is doing we are going to get gdp tomorrow another reading the estimates 1. 9 in growth are you saying you are expecting gdp numbers to start increasing and looking better . Well, the one 1. 9 is basically an indication that we are stabilizeing were not going down for the this economy is not about to run away. On the upside. But i think that the presumption that it is going to sink into a recession when means negative rates of growth, i think is very premature at this stage. Perhaps the right move to stay on hold at the fed, fed chairman jay powell last night said Central Bank Cut rates do to bearish view on economy but economy had less momentum than originally thought now basically on hold. Do you agree with that policy. Yeah, i think it is not on unreasonable view way to look at this. If we were going intorecession would be sleth on downside now and we are not accelerating on downside. One of the reasons i mentioned earlier when trade picking up internationally it is very important and remember that the vast amount of merchandise trade is china, shipping, net to the United States. Yeah. Remember the two of them are 40 world gdp. So you have this extraordinary set of pressures arising when trade overall starts to look better the Global Economy looks better. Sounds like youve got optimism where we are usmca the other outlier is there you have been in that hearing room before when Congress Really likes to hear themselves talk, we are looking at that over and over again, so many different areas, in terms of usmca how big an impact would that have on economy alan real quick before you go . How big impact how big impact would passage of usmca have on Economic Growth . I have no idea. Okay. Okay. Usmca is expected to create 200,000 jobs if you liven to Peter Navarro said this weekend at the white house but dr. Greenspans also a a pleasure to see you thanks very much for joining me this morning. My pleasure, maria.
