As you see behind me, a lot of protrump supporters, also antitrump demonstrators as well. We know u. S. President , President Trump inside the facilities along with apple ceo tim cook. This will create 15,000 jobs in the future, the largest employer in the city of austin. Theyre also, by the way, trying to sell a lot more in this country as well. Melissa. Melissa susan a lot of people should have a Good Relationship with President Trump because their business depends on it, and they still dont. Look at tim cook, this is somebody wouldnt naturally be i think aligned with the president. But something is making their relationship work. What is that in your opinion . I would say probably business. As you know, they are probably talking about u. S. China trade. Right now since we know that apple gets 20 of their sales from china. They compile a lot of it phones, ipads. Their goods in china. Also subject to tariffs on december 15th. Ipads, iphones going up 15 possibly if u. S. China trade talks do not real back the tariffs. Airpods since september as well. That hasnt had impact on wearable sales. Some would say tim cook, reached out to the president. He reached out across the aisle. He said he is apolitical. They dont donate to any superpacs. They are capitalists. They care about business. Melissa no, it is so smart. A lot of ceos think it is in the best interest with the public to take smacks at the president. Clearly tim cook thinks otherwise. Susan, thank you so much. Connell . Connell well talk a little more with our friend jonathan hoenig, Founding Member of capitalist pig hedge fund. Fox news contributor. What is perspective on relationship the apple ceo has put together with the president . Budding romans, connell. The president prided himself not being a politician. Almost as if tim cook is doing his best impression of a politician, very successfully. He is lobbying to be exempt, get more exemptions from new tariffs enacted by the president. So he is putting on a pretty good show to demonstrate the president , apple is bringing back assembly, despite the fact we wont see the iphone made in austin. Connell right. This is small niche product, the mac pro, they retail for 6 grand. Tim cook is doing politicianss job getting photoop. Connell do you think it is, a show as you say it . Or making key products top products in the u. S. Would be different, this is just for show . Is that what youre saying . I wouldnt want to debase any Company Investing in america, connell, but big picture when it comes to apples bottom line this facility will produce a very small percentage of their total revenue and a very small percentage of their total product line. But apple knows, just contract, for example, jeff bezos relationship with the president as against tim cook. Jeff bezos i guess playing hardball. He has felt the president s ire. Tim cook is buttering up to the president. He is getting a lot of exemptions that the company needs. Hitting a potential road black. Phase one of the u. S. China trade deal may not be completed this year according to a new report. Edward lawrence in washington with the latest. Reporter this afternoon, Deputy White House press second judd deere told me negotiations are continuing and progress has been made on the text of the phase one agreement. Wilbur ross says this is finetuning of the trade deal. The two trade teams are talking by phone. President donald trump taking a harder stance. Just a day ago if he said they dont have phase one deal on paper they will raise tariffs. Today he revisited the tough talk. Listen. We continue to talk to china. China wants to make a deal. The question is, do i want to make a deal . I like what is happening right now. Were taking in billions and billions of dollars. Reporter the Sticking Point remains tariffs. Chinese want tariffs rolled back simultaneously as phases are completed. Trade sources tell us the u. S. Offered to roll back some of the tariffs but keep majority in place until china reaches certain milestones and follows through with the trade deal. As you said reuters is quoting trade experts, people close to the white house, saying a phase one deal on paper may slide to next year. What i can tell you, both sides are still talking. We have not heard a response from the chinese to the president s tougher talk about tariffs and that trade deal. Melissa . Melissa edward, thank you. Connell retail tragedy averted when you look at numbers from target and lowes. The stock prices hitting new highs earlier today. Strong Third Quarter results from both of those companies. Look at target. Jackie dee dee, up 14 . Pretty good day indown day for the market. Reporter it was remarkable for that stock. Target saw a double beat, a beat on earnings and beat on revenues. Revenues was 17 cents ahead of street estimates. The company also raised 2019 profit guidance. Digital sales up 31 . Remember this is really important for a company like target, it is competing with the likes of amazon, retailers like walmart. It is showing that it is keeping pays. Lowes was remarkable we saw a drop with home depot yesterday. Earnings beat. Revenues a little light. But it also raised the 2019 earnings guidance. That was a plus for the market. Only 4 pop up there. Well hear a lot more from retailers this week. Wednesday we hear from, we hear from l brands. Thursday macys. Nordstrom. Friday from foot locker. Watch for all the names, guys. Connell certainly different than home depot. Jackie thanks. Melissa. Melissa will the retail rebound last . Jonathan hoenig is with us. Every day i feel we get a different read on retailers. Seems like specific to the individual companies . I think that is exactly right, melissa. There is great winnowing of retailers. Names like Urban Outfitters which god killed today or kohls. Those struggled with names like walmart have succeeded because they have taken on amazon. The consumer is extraordinarily strong. That has to do with the record stock market. Call it the wealth effect, the more we have, more we spend. Nothing, save a real drop in the stock market melissa will likely change the trend for consumers. Melissa always brilliant, jonathan, thank you. Connell lets get to the push to protect rider safety, what uber will tell you as they get plans to launch a new feature to record audio during their ride. Kristina partsinevelos is live with this story. Tell us about it. Uber told me specifically yes theyre confirming a pilot program. They will launch in mexico, brazil in december. They said it is not imminent in the United States just yet. They confirmed it. It was for protection issues. There has been a lot of assault cases, a lot of misconduct, harrassment. There are no public numbers. People have been complaining, saying uber is not acting fast enough. I asked streets of new york, what they thought about the privacy . Listen in. Recording conversations do you think it is infringement of privacy . No i do not think it is an infringement of privacy. I think it would be keep me safer as a woman. Reporter privacy issue or not . I dont think so. It could protect a lot of people. Seeing what goes on the car ride. Reporter two positive voices right there i struggled find anybody against this idea. The issue though that uber will have launching a i cross the country, states have different rules when it comes to consenting recording conversations. For example, 11 states require both parties to consent whereas other states, if i dont complain, say, hey, dont record me, that is deemed consent. Uber will have to overcome this. Why theyre not moving ahead with the United States just yet. Connell some legal issues certainly to look at. Reporter privacy. Connell privacy versus safety. On a different note, kristina, moments ago, story breaking from uaw filing charges against president gary jones, righthand man vance pierce. This is big story potentially. What are you hearing about that . Reporter this is huge story. The uaw is filing charges. They will set to vote to remove both men you mentioned, gary jones and pierson. The reason theyre doing this, filing or accusing them of directly false, misleading, inaccurate expense records. Gary jones wasnt arrested but pierson was arrested. He was charged for wire fraud, money laundering, embezzlement of funds. He is being accused joining forces with gary jones, a few other people in the union, to steal member fees and use to it buy lavish products like villas, liquor, golf, et cetera. It is a 15 day process. They will vote on to remove them. Connell well watch that. Good stuff, kristina on both stories. Ambassador to the european union, and a key witness in the impeachment inquiry, testifying in the fourth day of public hearings. Blake burman is live at the white house. Blake. Reporter Gordon Sondland testimony contained section two called quid pro quo. European ambassador to the european union, in order for the newlyelected ukrainian president to come to the white house to have a meeting with President Trump ukraine had to commit publicly to investigations into it 2016 election and into burisma. A company which hunter biden once sate on the board. You have testified that, that the white house meeting president zelensky desperately wanted that was important to president zelensky, was it not . Absolutely. You. You testified that meeting was conditioned a quid pro quo for what the president wanted these two investigations, isnt that right . Correct. That everybody knew it . Correct. Reporter sondland also testify while it was quote belief, Security Assistance for ukraine was being delayed until the announcement was made, no one told him directly that was the case. Republicans also point to a september phone call sondland had with President Trump in which sondland asked the president what he wants from ukraine . Upon leaving the white house for texas earlier today, President Trump highlighted, that portion of sondlands testimony. So heres my answer. I want nothing. I want nothing. I want no quid pro quo. Tell zelensky to do the right thing. Then he says, this is the final word from the president of the United States. I want nothing. Reporter the Vice President s office today also tried to distance itself from sondland saying in a statement, in part, quote, the Vice President never had a conversation with sondland about investigating the bidens, burisma, conditional release of Financial Aid to ukraine based upon potential investigations. The sondland testimony just wrapped up. Not done for the day, by the way. Two more witnesses up on the hill later this hour as well. Back to you. Melissa blake, thank you. Connell here with analysis, judge Andrew Napolitano. Fox senior judicial analyst. Host of liberty file on fox nation. This, judge, was billed by many observers being the biggest day in the impeachment inquiry. Witnesses may end up siding whether the president is being impeached by the house of representatives. For someone who didnt see all the testimony, blake said it went on hours and hours, in your analysis what is the beg picture takeaway from Gordon Sondland . The big picture takeaway, Vice President of the United States, mike pence, secretary of state mike pompeo were aware of holdup in aid, refusal to grant an inperson meeting until the announcement of a existence of a coming investigation of the bidens was made. So, the president of the United States was not concerned with the occurrence of the investigation. Just announcement of it. Connell right. Secretary of state, Vice President denies they knew about it, denies they were involved but when an allegation of this magnitude is made under oath, there is going to be pressure on them to make their denials under oath. The failure or refusal to do that will be interpreted by democrats on the committee as an admission. This is the strongest testimony, connell so far against the president. Connell youre saying there is potential of obstruction being involved, is that what youre getting at or implying . He started his testimony, members of the committee im here based on my memory. I dont have my notes or my phone records because the state department wont let me have access to them. Connell the state Department Said he would have had access, could have had access. Well see in the coming days how that plays out. I have to ask you about is the republican response which blake burman referenced. Saw congressman jim jordan say it this afternoon, im quoting him, there is no direct evidence whatsoever in reference to the fact that ambassador sondland said he didnt speak directly to President Trump about holdup of aid. How important is that . Direct evidence would have to come from rudy giuliani. We know why he has thrown the subpoena out that they sent to him because he doesnt want to be in a position forced to testify what his client told him because there is no Attorney Client privilege in an impeachment hearing. So that is where the direct evidence would come. Ambassador sondlands argument is, with all this evidence, it was plain to infer this could only have come from the president. The Vice President didnt hold it up. John bolton didnt hold it up. Secretary of state didnt hold it up. There is only one other person that could held up the aid. That was the president of the United States. Until the whistleblower filed his complaint. The president denied there was quid proquote. Guess what happened late. Connell two days after the complaint or committee started that irinvestigation, right . Okay. Judge thank you. Well keep covering it. Judge napolitano. Melissa live look in texas. Connell taking the stage for the fifth time, 10 of the top Democratic Candidates in 2020 getting set for a debate tonight in atlanta. Where we find Hillary Vaughn with the latest on all of that. Reporter connell, mayor Pete Buttigieg is building on his early state momentum. He is the frontrunner in iowa. He is chipping support from neighboring senators, massachusetts senator, Elizabeth Warren and vermont senator Bernie Sanders to take the top spot in the latest poll from st. Anselm college. 25 pick pete, followed by sanders and warren. In in the third voting state South Carolina, qunnipiac poll of likely democratic voters mayor pete has 0 support among black voters. Mayor pete talking at historically black college said his prep will look different now that he is in the toptier. Well be ready for anything that comes. The bottom line is our message and what we can do for this country. Reporter tonight debate at tyler perry studio, the only major fpl studio owned by an africanamerican. Two of freshest faces in the 2020 field, former new york city mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Massachusetts Governor are Deval Patrick will not be on stage tonight for us. Connell Hillary Vaughn in atlanta for us. Melissa tom bevin, real clear politics editor and cofounder. Tom, strikes me what could they possibly cover tonight. The people entering the race that are new wont even be there. A fifth debate with people already out there swinging at each other. What would you watch for . The big thing, they will cover all the regular issues. I dont think they will necessarily bring up anything out of left field but, the big thing is the dynamic, right . Mayor pete who is now leading in iowa, surging in new hampshire. Has really entered that top tier. He is going to face scrutiny he has not faced before on the debate stage. As he said, theyre preparing for that. Well see how he responds to it. You can expect him to be standing more center stage. Be getting attacked from, from folks who are above him and also folks who remain below him. That will be a thing most people are watching. See how Elizabeth Warren responds. The last debate she was on her heels over medicare for all. She is trying to work through that. She needs to get out in front of that, rebound from that. So, it is mostly about these top tier candidates, how theyre performing. If some lower tier candidates can have a moment. Melissa right now we are watching President Trump as he is with tim cook. He is touring, i dont know, are we going to listen in . No. Were looking at picture as were watching. We can continue talking in the background right now. The biggest thing with mayor pete of course is a lot of has been made he doesnt have a lot of africanamerican support. Are they making a bigger deal out of that . In your polling do you see that is a big problem for him . Its a big problem for him. You cant win the democratic nomination if youre not getting support from minority voters. They are a huge continue when sy in the democratic primary. 61 of voters in the primary in South Carolina alone. As you get into super tuesday in the southern states, alabama, arkansas, georgia, those are states if youre not getting support from africanamericans you are going to run up against it. So he does need to win that over. I think what he hopes he wins in iowa and somehow build his momentum and africanamericans who thus far have not taken a real hard look at his candidacy do so and he is able to win some of them over. Melissa tom bevin, real clear politics. Thanks for joining us. Thank you. Connell watching breaking news in austin, texas, weve been anticipating during the hour. President trump with apple ceo tim cook on his side, right side and his daughter ivanka is there and other officials taking a tour of factory where they make the mac pro here in the u. S. Melissa one of the things tim cook talked about, he is taking apart at the server, showing parts with President Trump, tim cook believes a lot of parts need to be made in america for safety sake. Im what is he willing to talk about when he is showing components right now sorry . Is, he is talking about the fact, i think he is showing the individual component most likely. Lets bring in susan li who is on the ground there with a few more comments. Yeah, so basically we know that President Trump has been in this facility since around 2 40 p. M. Central time. Around 50 minutes ago. They are familiar with each other, multiple dinners on multiple occasions, President Trump and tim cook want ad private conversation beforehand. This is the flex compilation center where they make the expensive mac pro. The computer looks like a cheese gratrr. They wanted to move have product in china but now moving it here in the u. S. They are there at the new apple austin campus. There is Steve Mnuchin there as well. He is taking the process how it is built in the facility. Theyre showing three different locations, two others to to show how the expensive computers are put together this is about american jobs and american enterprise. We know apple has Broken Ground on their one billion dollar austin facility this morning. They are set to employ 15,000. Largest employer in austin. They have a burgeoning friendship. A discussion, understanding discussions at least, global trade and finance. Apple is one of the largest employers across america. They want to invest 250 billion up until 2023 back into u. S. Economy and take the headcount above 100,000. There is lot of incentive to have a relationship. Melissa thanks, susan. I would ask people in the booth if there is natural sound. We would love hear the ambient noise. Connell were just hearing camera clicks. Its a pool feed. It is not one of our cameras inside. Of it is just a camera, picking up conversation the camera itself a bit away would pick up. The president speaks farley loudly. Melissa when he was up front there we could have probably heard something good. When we look at the two, connell, strikes me a fascinating relationship that they have. Tim cook, he doesnt feel bad about opposing the president on things. Connell right. Melissa he made a big move, a big plea on behalf of daca, dreamers, that are here. And he, but then on other things, you know supports a lot of the president s stance on tariffs. They dont want to be tariffs but he understands, he does feel its a serious situation. Connell looks like pool is being be sherred out of the ushered out of the room obviously. He understands what he is dealing with. Makes decisions what is best for the company. All these situations. Bret larson, Headline News 24 7 anchor knows all about that. Spent time at apple facilities yourself but your i i am i im press shuns. That is the key word wee need to focus in on the impeachment hearing talk about the definition of is, assembled is what is going on. The mac pro is assembled in austin. Apple spent a lot of money on this facility. Theyre one of the largest employers in the texas area where they have building that facility. Apple has been there more than 10 years. The mac pro is highest price computer. It was announced two months ago after a fiveyear delay of previous version of the mac pro. Tim cook showing it to him, because they refer to it as a cheese grater. It is cool looking machine. This is what graphics designers use, if youre using a pixar movie, this is the thing you are going to use. They will all be assembled here. Here is kind of the rub, not all the parts being assembled into the computer are from the United States. Apple has manufacturing agreements with companies in more than 30 states in the United States, if you can believe that, parts in your iphone. We were at the Glass Factory down in kentucky where they make the gorilla glass that goes on the surface. Thats made in the u. S. A lot of parts are made in the u. S. For some devices they are shipped off to china and assembled. For the mac pro, they are assembled in texas. That is cool. Connell we go back to live pictures because the were trying our best to eavesdrop on this. See if we get any kind of commentary out of the president. Not supposed to make any formal remarks while he is there. Melissa but he always says something anyway. Connell bret, you were getting at this, one of our guests brought it up earlier the idea, criticism would be this is quote, unquote for show. Not like apple is moving back production of the iphone or one of its other products to the United States but it is doing this quite frankly for political reasons. What do you say . There is probably some truth to that. Apple has long made the mac pro in the texas facility. The previous version was also assembled there. The thing that is interesting to me, is going way back, i go way back with apple, my father worked there in the late 80s and early 90s, the original macintosh was assembled in fremont, california, then it was assembleed in sacramento and moved down to mexico and ultimately to china. Its a twofold thing. Labor issue, the need for number of people required to make these devices but it is also a robotic issue. A lot of these machines, a lot of what devices are made by are robots. The robots need to be made every few years. It is intricate detailed work. Even if there was a brinkback of some of this manufacturing, the hightech manufacturing we keep hearing about is not what i think most of us understand is manufacturing. Melissa the robots wouldnt be made here, that wouldnt be a reason for it not to be here . Youre saying not necessarily as many jobs because robots are assembling, am i understanding . Not necessarily as many jobs because of the robots but also the robots have to be constantly retooled. We dont have a lot of ability to do that in the United States to tool those robots. Maybe we would if more hightech manufacturing came back. Melissa right. This is part of what apple is trying to do here, bring these hightech manufacturing jobs here. You can see there, you know, probably a few hundred people that work in that facility. When we were at the corning glass facility, a lot of robotics there but they had a staff of 500 people that work there. That place is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year because you cant turn off the furnace. Melissa bret, if i could interrupt, that is one of the reasons you see ivanka trump on this trip, one of the big pushes is training americans, especially kids in middle school, high school to do exactly those jobs which would be the retooling of the robots. Those are the hightech manufacturing jobs of the future. Frankly, having two middle schoolers myself, that is exactly the kind of thing kids are interested in that convergence that tim cook would bring the factory back and we could have the support staff here to retool the robots. It would be a partnership where it would take people like this in order to commit to having you know, the jobs for robots here and sort of sponsor the training and it is no accident that ivanka trump is standing in the camera shot, that is one of her big initiatives. Absolutely. Melissa that is essential to her work in this country. That is absolutely right. A lot of, when we were talking with jeff williams, coo of apple, theyre big on stem, science, technology, engineering and math. Those are, that is the future where were going with these sorts of things. You absolutely hit the nail on the head. What were talking about manufacturing in the United States, it is not going to be the kinds of jobs that, really hard, manuel labor things youre breaking a sweat doing your job. The thing, if you have middle schoolers, the stuff they love, building robots. Melissa right. Robotics. I love building stuff with leg goes figuring out out things work. Melissa right. Those are the jobs well have to fill in the future. Connell were getting a wider discussion which is fine, i was on the swing state economy series we did a few weeks ago, we were in michigan with a company that does focus on automation, two things come up. Over the long haul obviously a question whether numbers match up, and more jobs eliminated than ones we can create but in the relatively near term, bret, say over the next decade, what the ceo of that company was telling me, the average age of workers on his manufacturing floor is well into their 50s, Something Like 55 years old, something thereabouts. His challenge he will not have enough workers to replace them, to the point you were making, we cant train people fast enough. Or shouldnt say it that way. Were not training people fast enough. We could do it. Not getting them into the positions as he would like. That is the challenge he is facing in the next decade. Melissa i really think that is changing. If you look at the push for robotics specifically in middle schools, from public to private, boys and girls, wherever it is, it is all they talk about. Connell yeah. Melissa all they talk about at every school and they have engaged the kids because frankly it is, it is exciting. It is like playing with toys. Absolutely is. Interesting to note, sorry, connell for you and i, women, females tend to be better at science and math than we do. Part of the reason we landed on the moon. Thank you, ladies. They need to stay interested in it. You talk about robots replacing workers. What is interesting about that, that is a totally valid point, say you put a kiosk in a fastfood restaurant, gee i dont need to hire maybe two cashiers, but for the kiosk, you need somebody that knows how to service it. You need to know how to upgrade the software of the device. Those are new manufacturing jobs. No longer stand here, do this task. No, we need you to know how to, you know, get into a computer line, plug into a port. There is some, it is connell very specific training that is another thing. It becomes a education story. The type of education that is needed in the new economy or the evolving economy because, logically, if youre thinking about it quickly, we need more education, more advanced degrees. In fact mothers would argue we need different type of education, different type of training. The type of training you get in a Community College rather than four year school or advanced degree. Absolutely. Connell this by the way the president s third stop in the factory. Why we keep switching shots. This is live at the manufacturing facility. Melissa i love that point, your perspective of a manufacturing job, it is about fixing the robots. If its a Service Industry job, about fixing the software. Can we hear . Lets listen. This plate goes under every single mac pro. [inaudible]. Very happy about that. Very happy about that about. Would like to present this to you, made a special design for you. Thank you. Thank you very much, mr. President. Thats great. Melissa nice. Connell mac pro. Melissa he is like wheres mine . Thank you. Connell developed in cupertino. Reporter mr. President . Mr. President. Connell he said, by the way, coulding wrong about that, he could answer questions at another location. Melissa that sounded like it was about. That is a really interesting point, no matter what industry youre working with the jobs, what are the software or hardware or implications of automating that business. Yeah. Melissa it is just fascinating. But i would say, i have a much more it says difficult things about retraining the current workers for that kind of work but there are positive things about the coming workforce because we all make the joke, because its true, that if you need to fix your phone, you need to fix your computer, whatever, go find a 10yearold. It is really true. Theyre innately interested in it. Theyre good at it. Never lived without it. In a lot of ways better prepared than we give them credit for. The patience to deal with technology. Connell than their grandparents, for example. We see it every year at ces. I saw it a lot more last year than the year prior. See a lot more kids toys that are geared learning how to code, make robots, learning how to code with robots, building a computer. This is the kind of stuff that kids, it is so great for them to get hands on with that the way things are now, it is not, math, when i was in school, four years ago was lots of pencils and paper, doing all of this other stuff. Now youre still doing that, but you know, when youre learning algebra. When youre learning geometry, learning trigonometry, youre seeing it in action. Seeing what the sort of principles of math and science literally in real time can do. Say what you will creating short attention spans, it keeps younger kids interested in what will definitely be the future of work. Connell very true. Melissa no, that is a really great point. I think susan li is standing by. Might tell us what we have coming up what were expecting. Susan . Reporter apparently President Trump will be making comment to reporters. So well be watching out for that, to see what he says about the on going facility tour. Maybe what he says about the testimony today in washington, d. C. Yeah, i would say this has been very successful for President Trump. In order to get the company, the Largest Company in the country, apple, instead of changing their supply chain over to china to keep it here in america, to keep american jobs, with one tweet, no waivers, you will suffer tariffs if you move the production jobs, i think a very successful move from the president. Connell one thing i will say about the questions that may or may not come, the president himself is the one, to susans point, on his way out of the manufacturing facility, it will be closely watched for, lets get off the subject briefly, any comments he makes on the Gordon Sondland testimony. He did not take questions. He made a statement, from his handwritten notes about the testimony but he did not answer questions. Sounds like fairly active outside where you are outside of the facility as well, susan, is that true . Reporter yeah. You can emergency everywhere President Trump goes a lot of protesters, supporters follow. We saw that today on the streets of austin. In fact numbers have increased as time got closer when President Trump would be at the facility that builds the mac pro and it is interesting, it is very emblematic what we see across the country. Divided nation, divided street today with one side of protrump supporters and the other side antitrump demonstrators. Theyre continuing the presence here. The numbers have dwindled. We had megaphones on as many knew President Trump was inside of the facility. Looks like a lot of enthusiasm continues. Where President Trump goes a lot of the action follows, right . Melissa absolutely. Connell all right, susan. Melissa bring in david asman. Who better to ask about the walk around the facility. David, this relationship is fascinating to me. It is not like tim cook kowtows to the president at every turn. No. Melissa he still pushes back on a lot of things. But he is also helpful at times. I mean it is just, it is an interesting dynamic. What do you make of it . First of all, i love connell to death, i have to admit, melissa, i miss you terribly. That is exactly where my head was going as well. It is the most fascinating odd couple in america right now is tim cook and donald trump. You would think they would be totally polar opposite sides but they have come together on one side in particular and that is the future of business in america. The president wanted to bring all the business that left america because of high tax rates here, et cetera. He wanted to bring them back, lowering tax rates. By lowering regulations. Tim cook, while on the other side of a lot of other issues, whether it is immigration or social issues, et cetera, on this issue he was in lockstep with the president. Then again they had differences on china and tariffs. Because of course apple sells a lot of stuff to china. September first we saw tariffs go up 15 . He wanted exclusivity to be excluded from the tariffs for his iphones, the macs, et cetera. The president made some allowances for that. They are working on more. Theyre working together for like interests. I heard that tim cook, even on some social issues is changing in terms of immigration. He is actually working with the president on some ideas of how to deal with immigration. So it is a very interesting pairing. Political pairing. Some ways opposite. Some ways, working together in lockstep. Melissa you would expect him to rail against the president on the tariffs. But he is someone who has recognized quite honestly, how broken the relationship with china is. You know, that is what i think is so fascinating, nuanced what we do. When you talk to people who do business in china, they say, it has been really lopsided for a long time. I hate the trade war. Obviously it is hurting me. Im almost dropping everything here. But i would love for some of this to be rectified. Right. Melissa by the way it is dangerous to have some very important parts of our electronics made in china. Absolutely. Melissa there is a lot of things that you think they would be pushing back very hard. Tim cook would be pushing back very hard, like you know, the president has got a point. Think of all the secrets apple has in all of its products. Melissa yeah. Think of the way they do reverse engineering in china to try to find out those secrets. At some points the chinese in order to do business in china, youre forced to share secrets with them on certain issues. Youre forced to employ members of the communist party whose job it is to spy on your secrets. He knows, youre absolutely right. Tim cook knows like nobody else in the world. Exactly how chinese do bad things President Trump brings to all of our attention. He doesnt like tariffs at all. Melissa for sure. It hurts him on, when consumers in china are hurt, it also hurts his Product Sales in china but he understands exactly where the president is going. Again, it is good for the president to get pushback from somebody who is sort of on his own level. Granted he is not a politician. But tim cook, ceo of the Richest Company on earth in a way on a similar level with trump. He can push back like nobody else can. Connell here comes the president , david. This is back live in austin, texas. Well see if he takes reporter questions with tim cook. Thank you very much. It is an honor to be here. Were seeing the beginning of a very powerful, important plant, anybody that follows my campaign i would always talk about apple. That i want to see apple building plants in the United States and that is whats happening. Tim cook is somebody i greatly respect, a great leader, a great businessman and its a very special day. For me this is a very special day. Our country is doing well, probably better than ever before, certainly from the standpoint of the economy and were in a state that i love, texas. And tim has a couple of things to say, not only about this incredible product, that is made right here, very, very unique product but also about their expansion from this point forward. Weve already done it up to here, from this point forward, the nice part you dont have to worry about tariffs. When you build in the United States you dont have to worry about tariffs. It helps people make a decision to come in but he is a very special person as far as this country is concerned because of the great job potential and great job that he has done. Apple is the First Trillion Dollar Company and that was about a year ago. Now it is about a trillion three i think you said but apple is doing fantastically well. Were honored, that youre doing what youre doing. Were honored to be with you. This is a special occasion. Well be back. Well be back. Thank you. I would like to thank everybody for coming and joining us, particularly like to thank President Trump, secretary mnuchin, and ivanka and other members of the administration. Im grateful for the, their support in pulling the day off and getting us to this far. It would not be possible without them. What youre seeing here is the product, the mac pro is 15,000 times more powerful than the original mac, it can perform 56 trillion tasks per second. That is 56 trillion tasks per second. Its absolutely. We could not be more proud of the product. It is an example of american design, American Manufacturing and american ingenuity. We want to thank everybody for coming and i turn it back to oh, one other thing of the this morning we also announced a one billion dollar investment, groundbreaking, rebecca was there with me for this, for a three million square foot site in austin, ten minutes or so away from here. We view austin as a very key place for the future of our company. It is the second largest site in the world for us next to our home base in cupertino. So im hoping for obviously more invests to come. Thank you very much. So tim was saying, a little while ago, he is starting a massive new Development Also in texas, austin. But hes also said something to me about the american economy. Because he is, you know all over the world. I would say that nobody is more over the world than apple. What would you say about our economy compared to everybody else . I think we have the strongest economy in strongest in the world. Congressman, please come over. Two of our Great Congress men. Great to have you. I see you in the audience here. Nice to meet you. Thank you, mr. President. Thank you, mr. President. So if anyone has any questions, go ahead. Steve, go ahead. Reporter [inaudible]. I think it was fantastic. I think they have to end it now. Connell would you look at that. Melissa speaking of ending it. Connell that was a question about the sondland testimony from earlier today. Melissa right. Connell we lost the shot. Here we go. Lets listen. What should he do . I said i want nothing. Then i repeated it, i want nothing. I want no quid pro quo. Tell the president , as you know, of ukraine, to do the right thing. And then he finished off, he said this is the final word from the president of the United States. So does the president want . I want nothing. Okay . I want nothing. Let me tell you, its a hoax. Its a disgrace. It is an embarassment to our country. Nancy pelosi has done a terrible job as speaker. There has never been a speaker that has done so little. She is totally incompetent. And shifty schiff, he stands up and tells lies all day long, even with that, so we have no due process. We cant have anything. And yet, not only did we win today, its over. Some of the fair press, which there isnt too much said this thing is over. So the president of the United States told this guy, who is no, i mean, question i asked, i said same question a number of congressman asked, why didnt he put the statement into the opening remarks . That is the most important statement. This country. For our country to be planning this, opening up has sieve apple plants. We have the greatest economy in the world. We have the greatest economy we ever had in the history of our country. Best unemployment numbers we ever had we have a fake press, phony press, we have a phony press in this country. Dishonest. Fine journalists and reporters and companies. Most of them are fake and phony. Cnn, nbc. Abc. Cbs. Cnn. New york times, they are fake press. They hurt our country. To be honest with you, a great tribute in swing states all of those people in this we had a landslide, and they are trying to take it away because they cant do it fairly, but these are bad people. Nancy pelosis incompetent. Shes gotten nothing done in congress and now with their big star witness, this was going to be their star witness, i dont know him very well. He wasnt even on my side. He came over to me. I didnt even know that. He came over to me after i defeated other people. I defeated them all. So you know what really we have to learn from this whole thing is the press. [no audio] david thats happened from time to time. If it starts up again, again, it is a remote from austin, texas, from inside a factory, i think were back now . Lets go back to the president. Reporter [inaudible]. T
