Cheryl todd piro has details. Reporter after reportedly rejecting a plea bargain last week, the two guards could be charged as early as today. The charges include failure to check on epstein every half hour as required and falsifying log entries to claim they did the checks. Investigators believe the checks were not done for several hours before epstein was discovered in his cell with a bed sheet around his neck. This comes as one of his child sex abuse accusers described a disturbing encounter with epstein, adding she once took former president bill clintons seat on the lolita express, the notorious plane epstein used to fly friends and young girls to a private island. Epstein took my sexual innocence in front of a wall of famed photographs of him shaking hands with celebrities and political leaders. Cheryl violence continued overnight in hong kong as a group of protesters remain holed up inside a hong kong university, creating a standoff with police. Lauren fox news Jonathan Hunt is on the ground, has just been able to get inside that university. Jonathan. Reporter lauren and cheryl, we want to bring you this extraordinary first look inside the heart of hong kongs Polytechnic University where the violent standoff has played off over the last 48 hours. Right now, from where we are standing, there are around a dozen students or so still inside here, many have left over the last couple of hours but a hard core remains in here. Take a look around. You can see the violence that was perpetrated here, right in front of us here. Youre looking right now obviously as you can see molotov cocktails they were used by the students and there are scores of them in front of us in the crates there. They were used by students to drive back the Hong Kong Riot Police when they attempted to enter this building and this campus over the last 48 hours. And then as you spin around here, over on this table, some of the supplies, the dwindling food and drink supplies that the children have here. Thats part of the reason why so many have given up because they are running out of food, running out of water. As we come back down here towards the main entrance, ill take you for a view, looking over the front courtyard here and just look at the debris there. It speaks volumes about the kind of violence that was seen in this university on this campus over the last 72 hours. A student just walking past us there, putting his hood up for very good reason, obviously. The students who are remaining here do not want to speak to us on camera, they do not want their picture shown, they do not want to be identified because the hong kong authorities have made it very clear, anyone coming out of here, anyone they find will be arrested and face 10 years. As our cameraman shows you the charred debris here, it gives you a he very real sense of just how intense these battles were, how intense the fires the students set were as they try to turn back the Hong Kong Riot Police who came in here. They were successful for a time. Then they decided many of the students that they should actually give up, that they werent achieving much by being in here so they tried to go out. They were then met with tear gas over the last 48 hours and rubber bullets. They retreated back in here inside the campus of hong kong Polytechnic University. It now appears that most of them have decided to give up. It is futile to keep going with this particular protest in this particular location. But having said that, there is a hard core as we just showed you who are still inside this campus, waiting, deciding what to do next. So this appears to be coming to a close this particular standoff but as we know in these hong kong protests which have been going on for five months, anything can happen at any time and this entire university campus, by the way, is still ringed by hundreds, if not thousands of Hong Kong Riot Police. So still a very tense situation here as we approach the evening hours in hong kong. Lauren and cheryl, back to you. Cheryl Jonathan Hunt, live for us in hong kong. Thank you very much. Lauren pictures look like a war scene. President Trump Holding an unscheduled meeting yesterday with fed chair jay powell. Trump has repeatedly attacked powell, called him a bone head a few weeks ago. But called the meeting yesterday, quote, very good and cordial. The president tweeted later this, i protested the fact that the fed rate is set too high relative to Interest Rates of competitor countries, in fact our rates should be lower than others. Too strong a doctor an we brn mark. Thanks for joining us. How low does the president want to go, negative Interest Rates right here in the u. S. . Well, i do think its a little bit ironic that while europe seems to be walking back some of their negative Interest Rate policies, sweden was the first to go that direction. Its interesting that the fed is proposing that. Because clearly in negative Interest Rates in europe have failed to deliver in terms of Economic Growth and the central bank is reaching the 2 inflation target. It is i would say not likely to happen here in the United States but it does seem as though President Trump sends a lot of negativity toward the fed. Lauren the 10 year yield is higher than it was yesterday, futures this morning in rally mode. We could see more records on wall street. Is there optimism now that perhaps phase one of the trade deal might be closer than we thought last night . Well, i will say this equity market has been incredibly resilient because there has been slightly negative news about the trade war developments with china. So even in light of that, this equity market continues to set record highs. So last year at this time it seemed as though equities were turning negative, momentum was negative. It feels as though this year the opposite may happen where positive momentum may last into yearend. Lauren this is the were joking, mark, were saying its the most expensive time of the year, its also the happiest time of the year, when you get that socalled santa claus rally. With or without a trade deal, earnings today, home depot, tjx, urban outfitters, kohls, do you think this helps propel us to new highs, do we rally from here on out . I do think its hard to fight the momentum, seemingly to the positive side, i think there are a lot of investors that missed out on the rally so the fear of missing out is likely to continue here i would say through the yearend. So i think at that point maybe you take a more cautious approach but at least over the very near term i think its hard to fight the tape in this equity market. Lauren fomo, its a real thing, fear of missing out and maybe some investors putting stocks under the christmas tree. Mark, thanks for joining us. We appreciate it. Thank you. Cheryl weve got a lot more coming up. Were watching futures right now, weve got a big kickoff, the dow looks like it will be up about 114 points, 111, s p up by 10, nasdaq up by 34. We have a situation here on our hands where weve been telling people this for like six years now, dont use the same user names, passwords. Lauren 1, 2, 3, 4, is not good. Cheryl it was not disney that got hacked, it was people that the reality is, theres a website that tracks this stuff you can put in your email address and theyll tell you if your email address is in another database. Theres a 98 chance that if youve got an email address and you used it to log into a service thats been compromised, your email address is out there. So its probably a good idea if youre using that email address to not use the same password, 1, 2, 3. Lauren disney now also a tech company. Yeah, big tech company. Theyre still doing well. Lauren a live look right now capitol hill where in just hours week two of public impeachment hearings are set to begin. Four witnesses set to appear before the House Intelligence Committee today alone. Cheryl Griff Jenkins joins us from the Longworth House Office building with a preview of what we can expect today. Reporter buckle up, weve got nine witnesses over the next three days, four today, two this morning, two this afternoon. Now, we will have a gavel in at 9 00 a. M. As usual. There will be the swearing in, Opening Statements and 45 minutes for each sides and five minutes member rounds. The first witness is alexander venman and jennifer williams, both were on the july 25th call central to this entire inquiry, both testified behind closed doors that the president s call was unusual and concerning. And venman said there was no doubt the president demanded an investigation while williams called it inappropriate. This afternoon at 3 00 p. M. Were heal from kurt volker and tim morrison. Theyll take the hot seat. This as two more transcripts of depositions were given last night under secretary of state for Political Affairs david hail and david holmes, the Ukrainian Embassy aide who told lawmakers he overheard the phone call between the president and ambassador sondland and sondland said the president only cared about the investigation into the buy dense and doesnt, quote bidens and doesnt, quote, give an f about the ukraine. Nancy pelosrepublicans on this e suggest theres a bad idea. I wouldnt encourage the president at all. It would be a heck no from me as far as my advice as to whether he should testify. He would be lowering himself below adam schiffs level. Reporter foambassador Gordon Sondland will be testifying tomorrow. Cheryl as the impeachment hearings continue this week, a new poll from abc news and ipso says that 70 of americans think that President Trump was wrong to ask a foreign leader to investigate a political rival. And just over half of respondents, 51 , think he should be impeached and removed from office. Now, the president said that he would strongly consider providing written testimony to the house impeachment investigators. Lets bring in former prosecutor and criminal defense attorney. David, what would you tell President Trump if he was your client . Should he provide written testimony to the house . No. Cheryl all right. Rule number one. How many times have i said that. The fact of the matter is, theyre looking at whether or not he lied in the written statements to mueller and theyre critiquing word for word, hey, this is what he said, this is what we see. And theres always going to be eyes on the testimony and forget it. Trump, do not give these statements, let this play out and, in fact, i think at this point we can pretty much stipulate to the facts in this impeachment, the aid was withheld, trump wanted the investigation and its still not convincing any of the senate republicans, meaning theres never going to be a convict shun in the conviction in the senate, so lets get on with it. Cheryl thats why youre telling the president dont testify. Exactly. Cheryl i want to expand on this for our viewers. You mentioned the house. The house general counselor is investigating whether or not President Trump lied to Robert Mueller in his written statements, this is during the Mueller Probe. So lets go back, just to be clear to our viewers. He basically this is some of the revelation thats came out t of the roger stone trial. This is going back to the russia investigation. Again, this could be is this legal jeopardy for the president , again, if its discovered that he lied in written testimony to mueller during the Mueller Probe . The critical question is did he have any communications about wikileaks. Did he get that information . In the stone case, rick gates testified that there was information between stone and trump being passed back and forth. So stone would be the one to actually put the nail in the coffin on that specific question and i dont see that happening. Gates is the one that testified to some hearsay. Unless theres actual written communications, like emails or Text Messages to contradict what donald trump said in his sworn written statements, i dont see anything coming from this. I mean, theyre going to have to use somebody other than just rick gates saying i was told or i knew that trump and stone were talking because i dont see stone providing that information. Cheryl another legal issue that the president is facing right now is the Supreme Court yesterday, chief Justice John Roberts issuing a stay on an Appeals Court ruling that granted initially House Democrats access to President Trumps financial records. The president s attorney said for the first time in our nations history, congress subpoenaed the personal records of a sitting president from before he was in office. All of this has ended up in the courts, the Supreme Court now. Critical what jay sekulo says there, theyre trying to get records from before the presidency. So the Trump Administration is making arrestin arguments its t relevant. Up until yesterday, he was going to have to actually provide those records. But the Supreme Court stepped in and stayed it. It stopped it. Doesnt mean that trumps going to ultimately win in the Supreme Court. Doesnt mean that the Supreme Courts going to take it up. But what it does, its a huge win temporarily at the very least for the Trump Administration because they would have had to provide those records today, probably. Cheryl busy time for lawyers in washington and new york. Nine witnesses this week in the impeachment, four today. Who is going to watch all of this . Do people have jobs . Cheryl a few million might, though. David bruno, thank you very much. Good to have you you here. Lauren thank you. Is joe biden back, the former Vice President dropping in the national polls. Lauren as the fifth democratic primary debate kicks off tomorrow, a new poll shows former Vice President joe biden with a commanding 20 point lead in the early voting state of south carolina, while Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are in a distant second and third place. Mayor Pete Buttigieg there at 6 . Joining me now, anders hackstrom. Biden taking a lead they south carolina. Where is mayor pete . Hes not making a dent in south carolina. Why . Its two words, its black voters, those are the people supporting joe biden in south carolina, thats the one reason hes winning there. You look at majorly white states like iowa and New Hampshire and that lead is basically nonexistent. Hes winning by 4 points in New Hampshire according to the most recent polls and hes in a three way tie with Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg in iowa. And so thats definitely the difference here, its black voters. Lauren mayor pete is also struggling in another early state, arizona. They have a big latino population. That begs the question, mayor pete is getting criticized for having basically stock images of African Americans on his website. He apologized. He explained the issue. He took them down. Is that something that is maybe an innocent mistake or do you think it speaks to something more . I think its definitely an innocent mistake but it definitely is going to be seen as speaking to something more, if that makes sense. Because hes struggled with black voters and latino voters from the very outset of his campaign. There have been stories of antiblack violence by police in his city and as a mayor hes taken responsibility for that and taken the hits for that politically. I think thats what were seeing on the National Level is youre seeing these voters not wanting to go allin for Pete Buttigieg. This photo controversy is sort of little but it definitely contributes to that sort of idea. Lauren lets talk about that. If you look at some of the south bend, indiana newspapers, theyre critical of his track record as mayor there. Fatal shooting, the fallout from the shooting of the black man by the white cop, you have the numbers of shootings, injuries and killings in in the city spiking 60 in the past were, trouble recruiting for the police force. Is that the track record that we want to expand on the National Scale . Yeah, and thats been this idea hounding buttigieg for a long time is this idea hes a mayor from indiana and a lot of people are skeptical that he can go up to the National Level and be the president of the United States, especially when it looks like a lot of the policies that hes instituted as mayor havent panned out for a lot of people in his community. Lauren what do you expect to hear tomorrow night from the debate . I expect to hear Elizabeth Warren trying to claim back the lead she had briefly against joe biden and is sort of throwing away. Recently shes been labeling herself as this ultimate wonk, as a person with a plan, as the economic lord of america, but people have been very skeptical and looked at her plan and said how are you going to pay for this, how are you going to do all this and she sort of crumbled under the pressure. Sheafs gone all the way back to saying im going to Institute Medicare for all in the third year of my term which is essentially admitting that shes not going to do it at all. I think were going to have to hear a lot of explanations from her. Lauren anders, thank you. Thanks for having me. Cheryl le weve got more gren arrows to show you, had some records last night. Lets go for more, shall we. The dow is up 113, the s p is up 10, flays dabbing i10 nasdaq isa quarter. Coming up, Elizabeth Warren, she is out with yet another policy plan. This time more of a gut punch to Real Estate Companies as her policy would hurt the housing industry, were talking about it next on fbn a. M. Bye, bye, bye. Dont want to be a fool for you. Just another player in your game of two. You may hate me, but it aint no lie, baby bye, bye, bye print about. This many pages. The epson ecotank. Just fill and chill. I am totally blind. And non24 can make me show up too early. Or too late. Or make me feel like im not really there. Talk to your doctor, and call 8442342424. Cheryl democratic president ial candidate Elizabeth Warren updating her Affordable Housing plan with an emphasis on renters. Are these ideas going to be a major takedown of the real estate industry. Mitch rochell joins me now, with a long history in real estate yourself. She wants to be not just on the side of renters but almost be, dare i say it, antilandlord. She wants to create a new bureau, the tenant protection bureau. Shes focusing on Public Housing, renters rights and then regulation of landlords. So thats the big three pronged strategy by creating a new bureau in the government to protect tenants against landlords. Cheryl these ideas, the concern here, i think these are fair, is that its going to be an overreach and this is going to be more regulation. No that there arent bad lords out there. She wants to go after corporations that own multifamily housing units, not just apartment complexes, but also were talking like full neighborhoods. As i travel this country, im leaving for philly after this to talk to folks in the real estate community, the one thing theyre most concerned about right now is in fact regulation because were seeing more and more across the country, rent stabilization laws in states like california is now rolling one out and actually thats layering more regulation on which is not helping the problem because the problem is supply and if landlords are reluctant or builders are reluctant to create new supply because theyre worried about complying with regulation, thats not going to fix the problem. Cheryl youve got Bernie Sanders and his partner aoc that came out together under this Green New Deal that she proposed, saying that they also wanted to make sure that housing across the country was green compliant, energy efficiency, which could be good for a longed lord but if you want to do this on a massive scale, thats a big chunk of change and that would be a financial problem, i would think. Theyre focusing on Public Housing i believe in what theyre trying to accomplish. Public housing has a whole bunch of problems, safety, security, cleanliness, eco friendly is probably far down the food chain of what needs to be fixed in Public Housing. I think theyre starting with the last problem, not the first problem. We would all admit theres a lot of things that need to be fixed with Public Housing. Cheryl talk to new yorkers who dont have heat or clean water. Lets move on to something else. Well get data out this morning, its housing building permits. We care about this because its a report that will tell us if were seeing a bullish sentiment in the housing industry. Were still undersupplied. There are three andahalf million formed households. Statistically, when children move out of their parents house, some people in the audience may be cheering this, its statistically a formed household. Theres 3. 5 million more of them in the last decade than weve created new supply of housing. This is economics 101. If you have a lot of demand and you havent created new supply, what happens, prices go up. When prices go up, we freeze people out of the housing market. We have lowered Interest Rates, Mortgage Rates are down about a point. So that does help the first time home buyer get into the market. Cheryl is it fair to say that all this many doom and gloom about real estate is unfounded . If you really look at the data . It seems to me that the real estate is doing pretty well. I think the problem is our nearest memory is the prefinancial crisis period where housing drove the economy. I would say a half a point of gdp growth actually came from new Residential Construction. Right now, were back to the trend line where new Residential Construction actually is not a big contributor to gdp growth. What is is when you buy a house and put stuff in it, consumption, so everybody is focusing on the near term memory, remember the good old days when housing was driving the economy. We dont want housing to drive the economy because we tend to inflate bubbles and when bubbles burst its not good for the economy. Cheryl were going to be getting earnings from lowes and home depot. Thats another sign of the housing industry. Lauren the northeast better prepare for a chilly next couple hell of days. Senior meteorologist janice dean is in the Fox Weather Center with the forecast. Janice, i thought it was already cold. Its getting colder . Good morning, cheryl and lauren. We have a coastal low thats lingering, bringing a wintery mix towards the northeast and cooler temperatures across the midwest, a lot of 30s on the map. We get to 40s in atlanta, even 40 in mobile, alabama, 47 in kansas city. We do have a system thats moving across portions of the tennessee and ohio river valley and then our area of low pressure off the coast, that on the backside is bringing some snow. Measurable snow towards the interior northeast and new england. Were going to see temperatures kind of hover in the 40s and 50s over the next 12 to 24 hours. Not a lot of moisture with this, but we could see the potential for some rain, a wintery mix and measurable snow especially across new england and then well watch for wintery weather to make its way across the rockies and more rain in the forecast for the plains states, a little bit of snow across the upper midwest. Theres the forecast today. Well watch that area of low pressure exit, new storm system moves into the pacific and we could see heavy rain over arizona as well today. Back to you.
