God to be here. Maria investigation is turning criminal now dagen in terms of the origins to have russia probe, we are seeing more and more evidence of really exactly what went down as weve been discussing for the last 2 and a half years. Dagen ability to enpanel panel a grand jury and with bob mueller, the way special counsel worked, he couldnt report to congress, technically john durham would be able to report to congress, again, being out like keeping congress and the public informed about whats going on is going to be very important and flies in the face of what the democrats are doing in terms of this process because its not really impeachment. Maria youre right, we will talk more about that. Amazon stock down, profits fell 26 from a year ago, the companys heavy investment in terms of speed up shipment, the stock is off of the lows last night this morning but still looking at decline of 5 and a half percent, set to lose 40 billion in market value at the start of trading, mitch, your reaction . Free shipping isnt fro and we are figuring that out and cost as much as average 2. 90. We are realizing that, they have 101 prime prime customers in the Value Proposition for them we get stuff the next day or in some cases next day, thats really where the rubber is meeting road, no punt intended on free shipping. Maria a specific amazon story, do you think it speaks to anything going on in retail environment, we are in Fourth Quarter going into holidays . I dont think this was signaling that the consumer is slowing down. Heavy competition for ecommerce and theyre not only game in town and they have infrastructure that cost a lot of money so they can be competitive. Dagen to paraphrase a quote in wall street journal today, these investments historically pay off for amazon, shortterm pain in terms of the cost but longterm gain where they can take on competitors say a walmart, a leg up on walmart, one good sign was revenue was at 70 billion for the quarter, it was up 24 from the previous year, it beat analyst expectations plus we see, what is the stock doing in pretrading . Maria down 7 and a half percent. Dagen thats a sharp selloff because year to date the stock was only up 16 which wasnt really performing in line with the broader market, underperformed anyway, this is steep selloff for amazon, but there might be better, better hours ahead after trading opens. Maria we should point off this is off of the lows, had worst performance right out of the get when numbers came out. China is slamming Vice President mike pence, beijing saying critical comments on china were full of, quote aerogenes, hypocrisy and lies as the president calls tout nba, watch. Some of the nbas biggest players and owners who routinely exercise freedom to criticize this country, lose their voices when it comes to the freedom and rights of the people of china. In siding with the Chinese Communist party and silencing free speech the nba is acting like a whollyowned subsidiary. The Vice President needs to shut the hell up number 1, all American Companies are doing business in china, i dont understand why these wholly endowed politicians if they so want to worry about china, why dont they stop all transactions with china. Maria charles back i will on comments. I think what the Vice President is saying more reflective of the nba fans rather than what charles is saying, nba fans in the united states, hey, they are supporting the hong kong protestors, they like free speech and backing up nba commissioner. I think its interesting disconnect between what charles is saying and many of the fans in the u. S. Are saying. Maria because they dont Want Companies to roll over. The nba had a mixed response, initially they were like, look, this was a mistake, murray shouldnt have said this, we are sorry, and so then they back checked out of that and said we are entitled to free speech, you see lebron james saying he didnt flow what he know whae was talking about. A mixed opinion within the nba. Dagen people are not taking issue with the nba appealing to the chinese fans and doing business in china, it is what they did in terms of representing western values and standing up for Constitutional Rights overseas, thats the central issue. I understand where Charles Barkley is saying, stop by the way, the nba and adam silver and lebron james, theyve been their worst enemy in all of this in terms of the tire fire that they cant put out, and so i understand Charles Barkley saying, hey, hey, theyre trying to make it die down and they want no one else to talk about it. [laughter] maria they keep talking about it. Dagen not an issue of business and the president is trying to fix that, the president is coming to the defense of companies that want to do business there that theres never been a level playing feel for them in china. Hes trying to come to the defense of peoples whose jobs disappeared and retirement savings, corporations took jobs to china. Maria now looks like theres a binding agreement about intellectual property and china having consequences, if in fact, they break the promise that they are making in the phase one agreement, we will get more on that going into the apec meeting when theyre expect to go sign the phase one. Dagen just really quickly, Charles Barkley has a right to express his opinion because of where we live as did darrell maury. Maria exactly, thats what shaq said yesterday, shaquille oneal. John durhams probe of misconduct during runup of 2016 election has transition today fullon criminal investigation according to fox news sources, Griff Jenkins live in washington with the latest, griff, it should get interesting. Good morning, maria, shift to inquiry means that john durham investigating how the russia probe began will now have the power to subpoena witnesses and lets quickly look at what we know n may attorney general barr appoints john durham to do review, bob durham travel today italy to investigate and this past tuesday the probe expands we learned seeking interviews with former dni James Clapper and former cia director john brennan and theres a deadline approaching for doj to decide to charge Deputy Director Andrew Mccabe for lying to his colleagues, reaction in washington was swift, senator Lindsey Graham wants to know more. Tell us what happened with the fisa application, it was counterintelligence investigation properly opened, was there any wrongdoing by doj and the fbi, somebody has to watch those who watch us, but here is what you cant fix, you cant unring a bell, whats happened to President Trump in the house has done a lot of damage. But the chairman of the house judiciary and intelligence committees jerry nadler and adam schiff had this warning writing reports of raising new profound concerns that the department of justice and attorney general william barr lost independence and become a vehicle for President Trumps political revenge if the Department Justice of may be used of political retribution or to help the president with the political narrative for the next election, the rule of law will suffer nearly damage, meanwhile we also learned yesterday in a letter from the doj and Inspector General horowitz that his report is nearing completion coming very soon and dagen asked the question whether report to continue, of course, we learned the attorney general had regulations requiring a report to congress under the special counsel regulations and so one of the people that was there and will be now will be send say graham, a key player in all of, this we will see if he has more to say. Maria griff, we know he will start taking his own testimonies there in the Judiciary Committee once the ig report is out, Griff Jenkins joining us there, mitch, this goes back to early 2016, at the end of 2015 and the reason that the fbi started counterintelligence investigation against donald trump and Trump Campaign before he was elected and why, who put it in this publics idea that donald trump had anything to do with russia meddling and that is really the crux of this, the origins of the investigation, we knew that there were informants thrown at George Papadopoulos, carter page, surveillance done of general general mikan flynn and first person to get surveilled, all of the informants and wiretapping around the Trump Campaign to try to entrap them. And youve been covering this on sunday and here like nobody else, whats fascinate to go me, first of all, they are saying this is retribution for, you know, politicizing whats going on with impeachment, this is something that goes back to 2015, 2016, and i think the American People have a right to know what happened and the thing thats always been a burning question for me, if they were eavesdropping, surveilling what did they do, spying on a campaign is unprecedented. Maria one of the real broker throughs i think they had when will bum barr and john durham went to italy, we know that the diplomat, quote, unquote, who gave the information to George Papadopoulos, russia has Hillary Clintons emails and that began this conspiracy that they, you know, they were hoping he went back to tell donald trump and try to get donald trump involved in russia having Hillary Clintons emails. She didnt, by the way. Dagen a lie according to according toes to the mueller team but wasnt charged for lying, when it is a crime and some people have been charged. Maria a lot of lying and leaking going on so you have to ask yourself why wasnt he charged, was he in fact, an fbi informant and once we establish that alexander and others were working for western intel, then we have hear evidence that this was an entrapment, we are just Getting Started this morning, also on deck, interdigital ceo bill merit on chinas trade, we will get his take on, this chief of staff for Vice President mike pence marc short, Strategic Resource Group managing director talking amazon earnings, a lot going on, first coming up california in flames, thousands ordered to leave as wild fires once again tear through northern and Southern California this morning, plus the national down 2 games to zip, looking to pick up some ground in world series, game 3 tonight in washington, latest from the dc stadium, back in a minute. Maria welcome back, markets are flat, taking a look at opening of trading, we are expecting fractionally better opening for the broader average, s p is up 3, we are latest for reading. Paypal, rallying on positive results this week, 3m and twitter took a tumble. Joining us chief economist jeffrey cleveland, jeffrey, good to see you, thanks for joining us. How would you backdrop in terms of economic backdrop . The economy, nominal gdp growth rate, that still looks good, the consumer looks solid, weve got multidecade low Unemployment Rate, still nearly 200,000, very low layoffs, wage growth higher particularly on the low end of wage scale, if youre on the bottom percent isle, youre seeing 3 and a half to 4 in wage, clients are telling me 5 and 6 year on year wage figures that theyre offering up to employees to entice them to stay or bring employees to come in. Any given month or maria like amazon. We are on the right path and within the next week i think we will get another rate caught from the fmc and markets have it priced 90 chance, so i think we will have that, that will bring us to 3 rate cuts for this, you know, midcycle adjustment, if you will, and as long as powell doesnt say anything, you know, outlandish next week i think markets will really like that and continue to support the economy, we had global issues, weakness in manufacturing the fed cut 3 times and, maria, we avoid a recession for another 3 years. Dagen and the impeachment and russian debt crisis we had the impeachment of bill clinton of the house and the market recovered during the actual impeachment process after the starr report delivered in september of that year, the market it recovered all the losses between july and september of that year, its the backdrop thats important and not whats going on in washington. In fact, the economy is holding up growth numbers. You have to look at layoff numbers because we get that every week, for investors thats the key indicators, i i want to see those stay low, if they start to creep up, more concerned, right now that looks solid, the other thing, maria, that im watching dxy, dollar index or broad traded dollar, what i think happened here the fed hiked and that so much of the Global Economy depends on what happens with the dollar fed is Global Center that way, the fact that the dollar depreciated that impeded Manufacturing Activity globally. Thats what you saw show up in china. In europe starting to print money again, that will be bad for their currency and we still have negative yields around the world and people will keep buying or treasuries. Has come off, you have the fed cutting and the other thing the fed is doing and interesting to see next week how powell handles this, but the fed is also growing its Balance Sheet, the ecb as you mentioned opened up and buying bonds but the fed is also in bondbuying business, they will buy 60 billion per month and Balance Sheet will expand, you know, some people call it qe, thats more liquidity coming into the market that cant be dismissed. How do we get a pickup in Business Investment spending, thats a point of weakness and point of concern for a lot of people . We reneed to solve the political process in the uk, they need to solve brexit and i think you need more certainty or less uncertainty rather on trade here in this country because what we find, the uncertainty about whats going to happen in brexit, you know r they going the stay, are they going to leave, is it going to be a hard brexit or soft brexit, we have an office in london, we know the story well, people sit back on their hands, businesses, they say we will wait, its the waiting that causes decline or a slowing in business spending, thats what we are seeing in europe especially in uk, thats also what we are seeing in the u. S. With the cap x numbers we saw earlier this week. Maria we have a lot of numbers coming out next friday. A lot of pessimism in bond market, maria, not so much stock, the bond market when you look at 10year treasury at 170, for example, that decline that we have seen there its because Bond Investors think we are in the cusp of more significant slowdown, i dont think we will have a recession and so i do expect those numbers to come out a little bit better than expected, gdp in the Third Quarter, i think 2 is a solid number that will put us right on track to grow about 2. 2 for the full year. Maria jeffrey, thank you, jeffrey cleveland, short break, china trade tensions, Vice President mike pence delivers fiery speech of chinas intellectual property theft, theres a call we are expecting between washington and beijing, then game 3 of the world series shifts to dc, Washington Nationals to continue winning streak, we will take you live to the stadium this hour, back in a minute. On the east coast, market this is morning are waiting on more news in terms of earnings, we are on a flat open, s p up 2 and nasdaq up 111 points, the dow and nasdaq closing slightly lower and the s p is still just half percent away from its alltime high with gain yesterday about 5 points, meanwhile european indices this morning look like this, the brexit drama continues, we are looking at a lower performance for european indices, Prime Minister Boris Johnson seeking a deadline, u. S. S. To remove tariffs in exchange for agricultural buying, this is Vice President mike pence calls out china for history of intellectual property theft in an event in washington yesterday. Despite a 2015 promise in the rose garden by chineses leader to cease and desist, china continues to aid and abet to start by new by ending the trade practices that have taken advantage of the American People for far too long,i know President Donald Trump is ready and willing to begin that new future. Maria and that the new future interdigital, chinese phone manufacture zte to pay licensing fees for its technology after holding out for a decade, President Trumps hard line trade tactics, joining us right now president and ceo of interdigital bill, thanks for joining us. Thanks for having me back. Maria give us your story and, in fact, how you were able to get the concessions from the chinese . Well, its been a long road with zte and start with the Good Technology that we develop for the cell phones and manufacturing. I think the critical components were, of course, what we have done with a company and what the administration is doing, you noted in opening comments, this administration has been laser focused on getting the chinese to respect intellectual property and it really played a significant role here in get this deal to move across the line, the chinese themselves are moving down that path as well so maybe less resistance as they have been in the past to push them down, but theres no doubt that the administrations is focus on this and zte helpful in getting the deal done. Maria do you believe that chinese will keep promise to stop stealing intellectual property if we have a deal, theres a report this morning that says there has been an agreement, that the chinese acknowledge that this is one of the critical parts of any deal, do you believe that theyll actually stick to it . So i think as i said before, i think its in their interest for intellectual property to be respected because theyve built large intellectual property positions themselves so i think thats a positive thing, i think the question becomes how exactly does that respect kind of play out in the market, right, so one of the concerns i would have is that, you know, that they may go down a path of saying chinese intellectual property is very valuable but others is not as valuable. So i think the administration has been very focused on making sure that they establish the right type of criteria, the right type of milestones and right type of enforcement so that it promise to respect intellectual property which at a high level is a little squishy. The keyword there is enforcement and you said it twice, how does that potentially it work because the only weapon that weve had so far is tariffs and thats gotten them to the table, is tariffs the tool thats used if they breach an enforcement clause and steal intellectual property or force a transfer. Maria before you answer that lets hear from Peter Navarro on the show yesterday, mitch, i asked him exactly that question in terms of the intellectual property theft part of this deal, watch this. The good news about this phase one, two things, one is that it adopted virtually an entire chapter in the deal last may that they reneged on for ip, so thats maria what does that mean, practically what does that mean . Practically if they basically steal our ip we would be able to take retaliatory action without them retaliating. What does that look like in practice and what impact does it have on the employer who is are doing business in china . Right. So i think the critical piece was that you were able to take action without fear of retaliation, so whether that action would be something on the lines of tariffs, whether the action would be penalty that would be prescribed within the trade agreement, but it needs to be very prescriptive and it needs to be taken without chinese taking retaliation. It can take a lot of forms, the critical thing is theres a process for putting it in place and theres protection against retaliation. Bill, what advice would you give to other corporate leaders, ceos who want to strike a similar deal . So i think a number of components, obviously you need to bring the goods to the table in terms of Good Technology, this is not just the u. S. Government forcing things, you are to start with Strong Technology position, do i think being connect intoed washington is important because i do think that the Chinese Companies are listening to whats going on in washington and and wanting to per tray themselves as good actors, do i think theres a slightly different pricing environment in china that you have to respect, it is a different kind of market and you have to work your way through that and with respect to china, you know, its a different transactional structure, it just takes longer, you need to build longer relationships, so you need to understand that market a little bit better, you know, i think we are certainly on a much better path than weve been before. I will go back to the manage has been extraordinarily helpful in terms of the laser focus on this because i dont think without that added component we would be where we are today, a lot of piece that is went into this puzzle but that was a very important piece. Dagen i heard privately from many people say in Technology Industry that because President Trump has exposed the nefarious behavior of china and fighting back, giving them room to make tough decisions on where they want to operate and where they want to manufacture. Right, i think that the positive view of where we could be in 5 years, youre exactly right, the curtain was pulled back on what was going on in china, exposed to the world. I think the chinese to participate around the world they have to change behaviors, i think they are going down the path and needing to be pushed, ultimately the best situation 5 years from now where china, participates like all others in Global Economy, theres fantastic engineering that goes on in china, theres no doubt about that, what you want a level playing field, you want protection of intellectual property, you want all of the industrial nations around the world to work collectively and competitively, of course, i think thats the best situation, i think the worst situation frankly would be where you begin to isolate china or let themselves become isolated, i think we lose access to our technology which is bad and they lose access to other things. I think its longterm in their interest and everyones interest, its just a big change in culture you have to push your way through. Maria total different culture than the free world, thats for sure, bill, thank you, good to see you this morning, bill merit joining us there, the Washington Nationals with 20 lead ready to play in home field turf tonight, President Trump is planning in to take 5 game on sunday, jillian mele joining us now as Nationals Park as preparations are underway, jillian. Maria welcome back, looking at business of shortterm rentals, blue ground afterring part time for those furnished apartments, the expansion globing global, joining us the ceo of blue ground, cofounder as well, alex, good to have you on the program this morning. Good morning, thank you for having me. Maria thank you so much for joining us. Stays for one month and more, typically our apartments will be booked from two types of client clients, clients that are staying for business assignment and those staying for a year, those who dont want to buy furniture, they can do everything super easy, they can go to the website, they can see all of our apartments and they can book an apartment and move in tomorrow or whenever they want to and basically through mobile application, everything has to do, cleaning, maintenance, what have you, and we also give the option for people to stay less than what they are originally planned, to they can change apartments, neighborhood, its very exciting to see people come to new york, you know what, i want to try 6 months in chelsea and 6 months in Upper West Side and exciting to see how people see home differently. I was working as a consultant for 6 and a half years, stayed in 12 different cities and i had to stay in hotels all of this time. It was quite expensive for the company and for me not ideal, right, you want a residential apartment, you want more of a home feeling and thats why i founded the business. Two questions for you, one is quick and maybe one isnt, who do you compete with and everyone in the panel wants to ask the question, do you allow pets . We do allow pets. [laughter] and very pet friendly in most of the buildings, then on terms of competition, if you think about whether the alternative for someone moving to a new city for a month or more, typically you might go for a hotel if its a couple of months, blue ground is cheaper and better option, and the other alternative is renting unfurnished apartment and buying furniture. The other part thats exciting, changing the market and how people are renting an apartment, these are basically the standards lets say alternative that is people will have when they move to a new city. Maria sounds like to Growth Opportunity would be working wog with consultants and businesses that have a lot of people, a lot of employees on the road in a given time as opposed to just working individual on an individual basis. Absolutely. We work with Large Companies around the world that send people, we are in 9 cities around the world, 208 apartments, the plan to go to 50 cities and 50,000 apartments in 2023. Business is definitely a big segment at the same time we are also marketing and targeting individuals directly which could be moving to a new city as part of a workrelated move. How do you compete against an airbnb which their name is so synonymous with renting apartments . Sure, airbnb is a great company, actually marketplace where people can go and find online an apartment for typically a few days, its more leisure stays and then you have the landlords or Property Owner who is are posting apartments there its more of a marketplace model, what we do at blue ground we cover the entire experience, you have premium design, standard quality of an apartment, the service its very well taken care of and thats something that businesses really look for, thats how dagen i can fill this in. Some people who are renting on airbnb are cleaner and tightyier than others and you need consistency. Valid point. Maria raised 50 million in a funding, what will you do with the money, the ultimate goal to take the pane public in. Its super exciting news for us to raise the series b, we will do mainly two things, one is basically expand more, so we want to go from 9 to 20 cities by the end of next year as i said before with the goal being to 50. And then the second thing is further develop our technology, we actually have about 50 people developing Software Tech data and thats going to be the next thing we will do. Maria alex, congratulations, good to see you, short break, big week for earnings, we are on it, next up, stay with us. Ic. Its either testing an array of advanced safety systems. Or it isnt. At national, i can lose the wait. And keep it off. Looking good, patrick. I know. vo go national. Go like a pro. Maria welcome back tgif. Good morning, everyone. Thanks so much for joining us. Im maria bartiromo. It is friday, october 25th. Amazon stock is plummeting this morning, thats off of the lows. Third Quarter Sales were lower and profit was down, hit by heavy investments in one day shipping, raising concerns about the shortened Holiday Season. Markets are searching for direction. The broader averages not too far from where they closed yesterday, showing a gain of 9 points on the dow industrials, s p up 3, nasdaq up 15 right now. The dow and nasdaq edged lower yesterday. The s p is half of 1 away from an alltime record close for the standard and poors. In europe this morning the indices are lower. We have nervousness here. The cac in paris is up 9 points, dax lower by 14. There is brexit drama continuing there. Prime minister Boris Johnson seeking a december 12th general election to break the brexit dead lock. In asia overnight markets were little changed as the u. S. And china trade rep senses testifies are set to speak by phone today to get phase one of the trade deal done. They want to sign it. In other words, paper it, when apac happen, and that is november 16th and 17th, next month. The russia probe has now turned criminal. Federal prosecutor john durham has been given power to subpoena witnesseses in his investigation into the origins of russia probe. We have the latest coming up. A war of words between social media giants, twiters Ceo Jack Dorsey slamming Mark Zuckerberg over free speech. What he said, later this hour. Lets get to deirdre bolton. We have verizon earnings out. Theyre on the screen, right to deirdre we go. Verizon beating on the top line and bottom line. Wall street looking for 1. 24 per share, verizon posting 1. 25. Thats a an increase. Its an increase of a little bit better than one andahalf percent. The revenue coming in stronger than expected, 32. 9 billion is what verizon posted. Wall street looking for 32. 75 billion. So that is a slight uptick, about half a percent increase if you compare this quarter this year to this quarter last year im going through the business line. One note thats a little bit light, i dont know how much analysts are going to hone in on this but new fios tv customers slightly lighter. Ism going to go through more of the categories and let you know. As far as we can see premarket, analysts seem to b be responding to the beat. Moving forward, obviously it would not have affected this quarters numbers, but whether or not the apple iphone 11, new upgrade family, if thats going to support demand going forward. Long story short, a lot of analysts i would say are fairly bullish on the Company Getting more aggressive in its attempt to bring in new customers. We talked about the disney plus service which verizon announced tuesday giving a years worth of free access to basically anyone who has unlimited wireless. Theyre certainly trying to get you new customers and so far showing up in the Third Quarter numbers. Maria verizon up two thirds of a percent. It is all about 5g. It looks like verizon is the best positioned so r far i far t realm. The earnings story of the morning is amazon, stock is down this morning. It had been down 8 andahalf percent at the close yesterday. The stock is down about 6 premarket right now as you see, down 105. The companys Third Quarter earnings came in below expectations, profits weighed down by heavy investment in the push to speed up shipping. The retailer set to lose roughly 40 billion in market l value alone at the open. Joining us right now is burt flickiflickinger and wolfgang c. First to you, your reaction to the amazon quarter. Lets ask our self questions on the stock price remarks other company is going from 232 billion in sales to 400 billion in sales within the next three years and rationalizing out the rest of retail and doing more for Jerome Powell and the fed to tame inflation. So amazons investing as you referenced for profitable sales growth and to dominate retail, both on land and ultimately online and bezos is like Bill Belichick and the new england patriots. Hes got the winning playbook and like the great generalses worldwide from caesar to alexander the great to joan of arc to grace murray hopper, he wins every battle because hes smarter, hes strategic and hes better and the most brilliant operator ever,s distracted by the divorce a little bit this quarter. It does have an effect. I teach the history of retailing at cornell. Maria were all human, right. And mishigoch in new york city with not accepting the amazon eastern headquarters, that was a distraction, both transitory. Maria this company has been beating on revenue estimates for years. Profitability was never the priority. Exactly. Maria it was market share and it was growth in revenue and thats been fine with investors, right, dagen . Dagen it is. Once you start putting up record profits quarter a afte after qur and then you miss and people are expecting how much money were spending, again, once your attitude about a stock and the quarterly r performance of a company changes, its hard to come back from that. I want to ask you this. Amazon seems to not be paying attention to the nuts and bolts of its business in terms of sourcing goods from these bangladeshy factories that other retailers dont, allowing sellers to sell expired goods is another problem and the interface with customers is a mess. If im a prime customer, why in the name of everything are you pushing ads at me and sponsor content. Thats what im paying to avoid. Just give me the best product. I think its messy. I think the interface is super messy and its eventually going to hurt them. I might be wrong. Youre completely correct now. In the future, bezos and team are taking corrective action. Theyre hiring the best and the brightest from the finest universities across the world and in that theyre taking corrective action on whole foods, full disclosure, our Strategic Resource Group did the Due Diligence on whole foods worldwide for the first buyer. We forecast it would take three to five years to clean that up. The interface needs to be cleaned up as you referenced. As we talked before and maria mentioned, the cap ex investment, theyre going to be 100 he sew 100 solar. Number two operating costs, theyre already there. And the cost for power is going to be a few cents where everyone else is paying half a buck. Maria 100 solar. Thats a great goal, by the way. Is the growth story for amazon still intact . I think so. We look at companies differently. We look at their good Corporate Governance here and thats reflected from a Foreign Exchange point of view how theyre managing currency risk and other financial risks. What were seeing with amazon, and thats a very positive trend, is that their governance is well in place, bezos is staying well ahead of the game here with digitalizing their financial Risk Management. Three quarters ago now, they had an impact from Foreign Exchange of roughly 1. 5 . Thats decreased to 1. 2 and these recent numbers had only 80 basis points. The trend of digitalizing ate and Risk Management is intact. I wouldnt be betting against them. You saw leer, for example come out, their corporate govern fans isnt reflecting that. You have a few companies who are not managing that properly and they need to and youve got Companies Amazon who are doing it well. Yes, this is a re correction rit now. Sounds like everybody remains rather bullish on them. Wolfgang, its veronica. Amazon is a leader in cloud computing. We saw a slowdown in growth. Im wondering what investors should be thinking about that. I think what they need to think about is they need to look at who is their competition. Obviously its the microsofts and the google whose are taking part of that in there and they also look at how to manage it. At the end of the day, theyve got to look at whats the financial Risk Management and who is doing a better job because those are going to be the surprises that you will see in the market or not. Maria youre expecting what in terms of the Holiday Season . I know we have fewer days between thanksgiving and christmas but you had said that Holiday Retail sales will break a record, 1 trillion . 1 trillion, november, december, january. So pwc forecast, alltime record. And the wall street analysts miscalculated the consumption tax in japan, theres six days shorter between thanksgiving and christmas this year in u. S. Similar holiday change in india. So third fiscal quarter important but the biggest thing as wolfgang referenced is next year. We dont want to lose s this is a company hes thats increased ad revenue 1,000 in five years to 3 billion to 33 billion. Maria, as you and dagen report well every day, the cost of the president ial and Congressional Elections from 2016 to next year will go from 10 billion to 20 billion. Maria wow. A lot of that that advertising is going to be much more Cost Effective and efficient on amazon than other means that regional retailers and others cant advertise cost efficiently through traditional platforms. Dagen because of amazons spend on the one day shipping, even p same day shipping, who is most at risk from that . Most at risk dagen competitorwise. Competitorwise i nordstrom opened in new york. They made the myopic mistake of cutting back shoe inventory everywhere in north america except in new york. So if somebody wants to buy shoes online theyre going to go to zappos to buy shoes rather than nordstrom. Com to buy womens shoes, advantage amazon. Luxury, specialty retail, teen retail is really at risk and weve seen 20,000 stores close in two years, 50 major retailers filing for bankruptcy or liquidation. So amazon will get they wont get the same things you referenced before the segment from barneys but theyre going to get they might not get luxury but theyre going to get prestige and the range of product and better inventory than anybody. Maria really great analysis, as usual. Thank you so much, gentlemen great to see you both. We will check back as news develops. Maria welcome back. A new twist in the 2016 president ial election investigation. Fox news sources say that u. S. Attorney john durhams probe into fbi misconduct has turned criminal. This means durham has special subpoena power. He can empanel a grand jury. The doj Inspector Generals upcoming report will shed light on why the probe switched courses. Joining us right now is chuck fleischman. Its good to have you on the program. Always a pleasure. Maria i want to ask about appropriations and where usmca stands. But let me ask you about this, in terms of the probe e expandi. I find it really rich how adam schiff and his colleagues are trying to suggest that wil willm barrs probe has anything to do with responding to the impeachment probe around President Trump. Can you explain what william barr and john durham have been efforting now for some time. At least i believe the department of justice will have open doors. Ill start by saying that. But seriously, this is a situation where for a long time a a lot of americans have felt that people treated then candidate President Trump with a situation where they were just manifestly unfair towards him. We need to get to the bottom of this. Object hav haveobviously theren investigation, a criminal investigation of the people who were investigating the president. I will look forward to seeing this report and will act on out accordingly. Maria ive said many times when you have international, quote, unquote, di blow mattes involved like diplomats, like the Joseph Mifsud of italy of the world, these were some of the people who lured campaign aids like George Papadopoulos, even general Michael Flynn, to various conferences and it looks like they tried to entrap them in some kind of conspiracy to put something on donald trump that that actually wasnt there. Id like to know who how are we going to get to the bottom of it. Are you expecting cia officials, john brennan, who was the director of the cia, to go down for questioning . I think the department of justice will be very thorough. I think they will look at all of the above and make sure that they get to the truth for the American People. Maria so amid this impeachment inquiry and the investigation into the origins of the russia probe, where are you focused in terms of your priorities . There are questions around usmca and getting that to the finish line. Yesterday, actually two different people, it was congressman henry quaar, he joined me as well as peter know navarro. They said they are expecting this to get done. We are going to pass this trade agreement. Its important for the u. S. , mexico, canada. Just look at what we see every day between the u. S. And mexico commerce. We see more than 1. 7 billion of trade. Thats over 1 million. So yes, we are going to do it. I feel very o confident that we will get this deal done this year. Maria thats so much more important than the deal with china, given the deficit is so much smaller in terms of the amount of trade being done. Do you agree with your colleague on the left . Well, henry quaar is a centrist democrat, and hes a distinguished member. I agree with him that we need to pass usmca and i believe we wills pass usmca this year. All its going to take is nancy pelosi to put it on the floor. It will pass with overwhelming bipartisan and then in the senate bic amaral majority. Its good for the united states, its good for canada and a mexico. Its high time we put it up for a he vote. You asked what im focusing on. Im focusing on passing usmca, im focusing on getting a budget passed in the appropriations process. This issue, i think henry quaar is correct. We need to put it on the floor, we need to get a vote. I believe well get a vote this year. The American People deserve it. Good morning, mitch rochell. Staying on usmca, when you look at the battleground states that will be very important in the general election, many of those farmers, those manufacturers that rely on trade with mexico or canada, is there outrage coming from those individuals towards their representatives, saying whether youre republican or democrat, we have to pass this legislation . I think so. I think the outrage is more towards the democratic leadership in the house that refuses steadfastly to put this up for a vote. Again, this is a bipartisan in an era where there is such partisan politics in america, usmca has broad bipartisan support and it should. This is good for the American People. Its good for canada and mexico. It will strengthen our trade block against the world. In a very competitive world. So yes, i think it will be clearly to the detriment of house and Senate Democratic candidates if they dont get this passed this year. Congressman, what do you think the odds of Speaker Pelosi actually bringing this to the floor, though . Some people said shes tied up with the impeachment inquiry and this isnt going to happen. Well, i would say listen to the American People. Ultimately, thats what gets congress to move. When the American People share their concern, when the American People share their outrage at gridlock and right now there should be outrage towards the gridlock. President trump has done an outstanding job getting this deal to the table. Just think about it. We had nafta for years. He complained about it. People in america complained about it. Democrats complained about it. I think louder than republicans. Hes has fixed this for the american worker. This is a bill that is not only good for trade and for business, but its great for workers in all three donees tries. Hes to be you applauded for this. And i think thats probably why Speaker Pelosi has been so hes at tha hesitant to put this oe floor. Maria this will be probably the biggest item in his presidency, once this actually gets done. Real quick, in terms of appropriations, the budget impasse that you referred to, when will reining in spending become a priority . Another excellent question. When the American People demand we look at the mandatory side of the spending equation. Lets face it. I work very hard with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and across the hall in the senate. But discretionary spending, maria, now is only 30 of our federal budget. The vast majority, and this has changed over time, is mandatory spending and when you look at that, until there are reforms there, theres really going to be a tremendous problem for discretionary spending. Whats on the discretionary side . Defense, education, energy, so many of the Different Things that we need, disas tear relief. Disaster relief. Weve got to get serious about that. Think about that. Interest on the National Debt is on the mandatory side of the equation. When youre a borrower, god forbid if Interest Rates ever tick up, if your a borrower and you owe a lot of money and were 22 trillion in debt, were going to have to address that. Maria thats why i asked the question. Yes. Maria so well just wait and see then. Yes, maam. Maria congressman, thank you. Good to see you, sir. Quick break and President Trumps biggest 2020 owe pone then, one report say its not joe biden or Elizabeth Warren but its the economy. Well take a closer look. Which is why so many people who dare to take on problems work with ibm. Maria welcome back. Good friday morning, everybody. Thanks so much for joining us. Im maria bartiromo. It is friday, october 25t 25th. Your top stories right now. Markets this morning are higher, although its been a back and forth situation. Dow industrials now down 8 points, s p is up 2 and a quarter, nasdaq is up 10 points right now. We are watching earnings really drive the story this morning. The dow and nasdaq closing slightly lower yesterday. The s p is just about a half a percent away from an alltime high record close as you can see there, fractional moves across the board yesterday. European indices this morning look like this. There is more brexit drama this morning. Fq100 is down 37 points, cac is up 7 and daxs is lower by 20 points. U. K. Prime minister Boris Johnson is seeking a december 12th general election to break the dead lock around brexit. In asia overnight, markets were moving fractionally as the u. S. And china trade representatives set to speak today by telephone to get phase one of a trade deal discussed and passed. We are expecting it to be on paper next month in november for the apac conference when two leaders will be there. A war of words between twitter Ceo Jack Dorsey slamming Mark Zuckerberg over free speech. What was said later this hour. The gm strike may be he near an a end. We have an update on the tally. Plus, dreaming of a vacation, are you . A new survey reveals how many hours a year americans are thinking about packing their bags and getting away from it all. The number might surprise you, coming up. All those stories coming up this friday morning. This half hour, our top story, 2020 and the economy. A report from bloomburg, the real threat to trumps presidency is recession. Its not joe biden or Elizabeth Warren or impeachment. Its the possibility that the current mood or economic pessimism would intensify and push the country into a fullblown recession. Historically a shrinking guarantee has been a near shrinking economy has been a near guarantee of losing the white house. The president doesnt have that problem yet but forecasts are trending in the wrong direction, writes bloomburg. Joining us now is John Hilsenrath who has written this 100 times probably, job. Good to see you. Of course its about the economy. So give us a characterization of where we are, john. Well, you know, Recession Risks have risen a bit but i think the real challenge right now is slow growth. Were going to be getting a report next week on how the economy did in the Third Quarter, gdp report. And all the forecasts are that the economy grew probably less than 2 in the Third Quarter. The forecast for the Fourth Quarter is also 2 or less. So i think the economy is really slowed down. I think Recession Risk comes into the picture if trade tensions intensify. So again, the next couple weeks are actually really important. You know, we have to see whether the president and president xi in china agree to put down their arms. I dont think theres going to be a big trade deal but they might agree to not escalate anymore which could help. But then the other thing you have to look out for is theres a deadline looming for a decision by the white house on whether to impose tariffs on european cars. And i think the president s economic advisors are warning him right now that these trade wars are hurting growth. If he decides to kind of put down his arms for a little while, i think the economy will keep going but at a slow pace. If he intense ph intensifies ths you have to worry about the economy potentially going into a downturn. Dagen john, its dagen. What about the impact of slowing growth on an election . Again, because we lived through eight years of slow growth and really lackluster wage growth under president obama. But he got reelected in 2012. And again, give him credit for reviving the credit after the downturn in 2008. What evidence is there the recession under george bush ended about a year andahalf before people went to the polls and they still laid it on him. Right, right, right. You know, i think one of the really important issues here is the economy might slow down but frankly americans are used to that at this point. We have had 2 growth since 2000 pretty much. I think whats really working in President Trumps favor is the fact that unemployment is so low. So even in a world where we have slow growth, if we can keep that Unemployment Rate at 4 or less, there are a lot of americans working and that factors for them. Frankly, i write about the economy, i guess im supposed to be saying how much it matters but, frankly, i mean, i think you look at these impeachment discussions, you look at all the other incoming on the president , i think this is going to be election about President Trump himself more so than the economy. John, good morning, its mitch. Hey, mitch. One of the things thats interesting about this, to sort of build on the point you made, we look at gdp but for the consumer or for the voter, what are the metrics they look at . Is it just if wages are going up, is it they feel like Household Income is stronger. Were so data dependent but i think the data that voters look at is probably different than the atlanta feds gdp now number. I think youre absolutely right about that. Who wakes up in the morning and says gee, i wonder what the gdp growth rate is. Us. Maria thats how we wake up, by the way. Right, right, but everyone out there watching doesnt. They wake up saying do i have a job, am a i paying my bills, are my kids going to have a chance to be better off in 10 or 20 years. And i think thats where the low Unemployment Rate and the fact that wages have been rising is pretty important. We have a 2 growth rate. People want to see their incomes rising but a Slower Growth rate, its not necessarily the end of the world. I do want to say, though, that we do need to hold this president accountable. He told everybody we were going to get a 3 or great he greaterh rate. Were back to 2 . Theres three possible reasons for that. Oneone is that stimulus we got m tax cuts was temporary. The other is these trade conflicts are starting to weigh on things. The third is, and this is the president s argument, that the fed has coapt interes kept inteo high. We have to call a spade a spade. Were not getting the 3 growth rates the president said we would. Maria its certainly slowing down. The rest of the world slowdown doesnt help. You have europe unable to generate growth. China is slowing down considerably. John, great to see you this morning. Have a great weekend. We had such a week this week on mornings with maria. It was a busy one. Take a look at some of the top moments from the program. The fact that chinas been able to silence and generate apologies from some of the worlds best companies that are based here in the united stateses is kinunited statesis. Its made a joke out of our democracy. The trade we have with chinas is important but one of the big arguments when we opened up a that trade to begin with with china, we said if we engage in commerce with china well export our values, well bring the values of frame and freedomd democracy to china. We have to make sure were not imporimporting their values. Maria intellectual property is there any enforcement in the phase one of the deal. The good news about the phase one, two things. One is that it adopted virtually an entire chapter in the deal last may that they reneged on for ip. So that maria what does that mean, practically speaking, what does that mean . If they steal our ip well be able to take retaliatory action without them retaliating. Without question, President Trump has some pretty big political disagreements with Speaker Pelosi. We know that. On the other hand, i will say this. Throughout the course of this discussion, regarding usmca, where there is considerable support in the Democratic House conference, she has been accessible and open and accomodative. Everybody knows the democrats and the republican, Everybody Knows usmca is a far better deal than nafta, including its a far better deal on labor issues and on environmental issues. Maria you think the unions know that too. There is really no substance or reason to not go for usmca. There is an issue clearly with views by teenager of use by teenager of nicotine products, especially vaping products. This is a concern for everyone. It has to be addressed. Yes, the flavors must be regulated. We put a stake in the ground that we were going to be the first to get this certification from the faa and we worked real hard to do that. Then we put a stake that we were going to be the first to scale it and because a lot of people may have wondered, could ups take the market lead here and we absolutely showed that we did. Jack dorsey calling out Mark Zuckerberg for facebooks decision to not censor political ads which zuckerberg defended. Dorsey said of the speech, we talk a lot about speech and expression and we dont talk about reach enough and we dont talk about amplification and reach and amplification was not represented in that speech. Dorsey called out zuckerberg for characterizing facebooks founding as a reaction to the iraq war, calling it revisionist history. Joining us now is the cyber guy Kurt Knutsson to make sense of all of this. Kurt, good to see you. Ma hey, maria. Good to see you. Its about time somebody whack a 2x4 over zuckerbergs head. From an investors perspective, really delivers on the financials, great ceo, facebook delivering every quarter. Hes got great growth still. Then you look at the humanity side of this guy and a he goes now on his giant press tour to try to put a human face on himself and facebook, trying to get ahead of any potential regulation, other legal matters the company faces. And he just comes off like a robot. And then theres jack dorsey, who is this grounded, other ceo of twitter, who somehow can just come in with his words, simply speaking about just nailing it to the t about amplification and reach, saying that zuckerberg completely was inauthentic by leaving those out. What do those things mean, really . Am a mri fi amplification is. Lets say you pose something about me but you use language thats incendiary and people react to it. Facebook like twitter has an algorithm will amplify that post when people start reposting, sharing it or commenting on it. Sensational things always bubble up to the top and he thats not necessarily free speech is what dorseys is saying. Maria on if twitters jack dorsey should be the one making this case since twitter skean cs people left and right. Theres a reason devin nunes is suing twitter right now and the fact that so many conserve at thises say they dont take down things that are negative about conservatives and yet they take things down right away when its a slight against someone like alexandria ocasiocortez. So im not buying that twitter is the one to be making allegations against zuckerberg and facebook. Im sorry. Your comments . Dagen and also i agree with you on that. Dorsey, i will tell you, of the two evil camps, dorsey will say i would say hes a little bit more honest about where their plight is. Maria i dont know if i agree with that. Hes talking this game, do i allow the post, do i not allow the post. I a agree with you that theyre stuck in this place where theyre making decisions that they shouldnt be making. Maria where is jack dorsey on capitol hill . Has jack dorsey testified . Mark zuckerberg has gone to capitol hill. Hes trying to sit with lawmakers, trying to sit with the president. You havent seen jack dorsey on capitol hill. Im sure theyre calling him. He has been on capitol hill. It hasnt been as recent as zuckerberg. Yeah, theyre both there. Theyre both trying to defend the hot seats they find themselves in for this very issue that you and i are talking about. Dagen number one, twitter is a mosquito and facebook is a rhinoceros. Its just in terms of the scale and the size of. Theres clearly some jealousy there, number one. Maria thats a good point. Like a bulldozer is more like it. Dagen jack dorsey ought to get on the same page as Mark Zuckerberg and im not saying they should collude with one another. Nevertheless because congress could turn against both of these companies and basically eliminate that liability waiver that they have under the Communications Decency act where they cant be sued for user posts. Again, theyre in the same basket, if you will. So dorsey ought to be a little careful there. Maria i think thats one of the lowhanging fruits that Congress Wants to do, change that allows them to not get sued, this protection these companies have, had they say theyre not media companies, theyre just platforms. I think thats coming. Theyre platform, its a middle ground law. Its completely unfair. And we know that they are behemoth media companies, period. Maria we want to quickly on tick calling on the director of national go ahead. Let me tell you why. Lisa jones hey carl, what are you charging me for online equity trades . Laughs umm. And do i get my fees back if im not happy . Like a satisfaction guarantee . Ugh. I think a great guest a fan favorite people still talking about it. We got a lot to talk about top story shares of amazon down 6 this morning earnings come up short for the first time in two years, gerri willis on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange with details this morning good morning. Good morning, maria that is right, amazon a disappointment we are back to amazon, focuses on spending for the future not on, as you can see, the impact dramatic down 6 1 2 , the people paid to forecast this, analysts more surprised than anybody no fury than 15 cutting price targets to arrange a 2000 dollars to 22. 50 eps came in big sfoiment there revenue disappointment slightly better to use 7 billion dollars could lose title richest person to bill gates if this holds through the close, the Fourth Quarter ginz or revenue allimportant Holiday Season legislator to 80 billion, and spending for breath let me tell you details 800 mm each of the last two quarters that is what the company has been spending will spend even more in fourth 1. 4 billion more spending on the cloud what we expect big numbers out that was a disappointment as well. They came in lower at 9 billion sales we will watch that, too so it is about spending some as well just weak, maria. Maria all right. Thank you gerri, gerri willis floor of the new york Quick Reaction from you mitch. I am listening to gerris numbers some increases in amazon cost next day shipping rose by 46 i mean, so just to build infrastructure to make that happen, to figure out the last mile is very expensive, they are are want to go compete with traditional retail in online space have to did o one better expensive. So it is really an amazon story you dont necessarily think this is about the Holiday Season there are worries about the fewer days. Revenue miss wasnt that big of an issue, i think it was more of a cost story this quarter, maybe putting more costs into the specific they knew going to miss, but the fact of the matter is, you know, the the cost of operation and business like this, is not something that is static. One thing to watch in terms of cost managing costs in the wrong direction, is low inventorys, at some of the major retailers going into the Holiday Shopping season. Boutiques i have noticed like mentioned, the inventory mismanagement low inventory of shoes at nordstrom would benefit from that a cash cow like amazon, can have more stock more inventory. Where trying to watch costs a lot of other retailers and it could bite them in the back side comehold holhol holhold goods arent there. Trying to navigate around tariffs knt buy inventory did not want to pay the price. Great to be with you going on a long time my viewers know this has been an issue that bothered me a great deal, the fact basically set up tried to entrap the people from Donald Trumps campaign, back in 2016 as early as the end of 205. Where are the indictments what is william barr doing at this point we see a criminal investigation what are your expectations. Maria, thank you for shedding light on this for several months. I think throughout the American People have a right to know what was impartial dodge doing we should 4 very about comparabling doj if fisa warrants with extended people should know that investigation is ongoing we look forward to reading horowitz ig report we believe is going to seems to lead to criminal indictments, and that is the next step. Maria there were all informants running into Trump Campaigns staffers, i think the first one who was surveilled was general Michael Flynn in early 16, normentsz into George Papadopoulos surveilling carter page as well if we learn those informants were working for western country teledoes sh entrapment is that right. I think a lot of this has to be Something Department of justice comments on i am not privy to that i think we all share that concern millionaires have a right to know was object Justice Department puring a political agenda or pursuing blind justices very important question. Extraordinary stoin the booigs political scandal of our time we look far orward to that report you are right American People wantance switching gears to answers around china slamming your boss Vice President mix penn beijing says pences critical comments on china were if you will arrogance hypocrisy and lies reaction. I think the Vice President extendeded a hand to say that we do not want to dedpp from china we are anxious off to a trade deal at the same time what i think we have seen administrations do republican and democrat alike is to say, once we allow china in the world trade organization, would there be an expectation that china has other reforms this evidence is not this President Administration is hoens with American People as this president said greatest transfer of wealth this world has ever known to see what happened over last 30 years pelt of america going to china rebuilding china there are expectations, that freedoms will flow from that hasnt happened Vice President clearly laid out much oppression that a still happens from religious right free speech even complooconomic hasnt happened forced transfer, intellectual property theft manipulation of currency this administration is honesty with American People, and this president is looking to strike a fair deal that is honest to protect american workers. And so this the Vice President laid that out clearly in the speech, viewers to read it. This is this is a situation, where this is a debate in difference in just values. You are talking about a communist country versus a democracy, a country that is is tracking its citizens that is stealing intellectual property, doing whatever it wants, based on this state laws. You know, so it is hard to imagine what kind of a you know a partnership u. S. And china can have when you are actual debating actual values. The Vice President called out the nba in speech yesterday after a number of the people in the nba basically rolled over, because china told them stop talking about this here is Vice President listen to this. You are saying usmca will create did you say 57,000 175,000 jurors, conservative estimate i think others have it significantly higher. Do you think will pass this year. We remain hopeful. I got it. Maria welcome back americas newest mall to garden state took nearly 2 decades to realize this dream Jackie Deangelis live in new jersey with more good morning. Good morning, to you maria the question is is it an American Dream or will it be an american nightmare, the concept for this mega mall behind me came around in 1996 it broke ground in 2004 was stalled because of the great recession, in 20 eleven triple 5 group the same company owns mall of americas minneapolis took over here, fast forward delayed opening dates sort of soft opening, today. What were going to see when we get inside later will probably past noon hour ice skating rink nickelodeon Amusement Park not all that is slated to be here a huge location, there is supposed to be a ski slope a wealthier park to come, more than 300 Retail Stores are not going to open until march so that is after the christmas season. The question, of course, is is this going to compete with likes of disney or universal . That is what triple wants it to do saying not a mall or mega mall but more of a style and entertainment destination, you know, just five to 10 many times owed of new york city a lot of people are wondering are you gonna come to town and go to Rockefeller Center to see rock contents, catch a game around town get on a transit line come to the a muddolands to come to this Entertainment Center there is not that much else around it will aside from Metlife Stadium investors put in 5 billion for this we will see what happens. We will see because it is not only an indication, of the excitement around malls but indication of retail season. Absolutely. Hawaii congressman Tulsi Gabbard says not seeking reelection in her district putting all efforts into 2020 race for the white house this comes as congressman ryan announced yesterday he is dropping out of this race joining us right now Strategic Consulting founder fox news political analyst, thanks for being here. Good morning, thank you for having me assess the race right now you know in retrospect Lindsey Graham was right when he said two weeks ago the most consequential week joe biden a heart attack Bernie Sanders had Elizabeth Warren up the ranks. Absolutely President Trump raised most money in president ial politics, that is breaking records is consequential winning on that front this is new era for Democratic Party battle for hart and soul an individual like Elizabeth Warren leading the pack i know pols differ you see cnn, released a couple days ago show joe biden had a widening lead look at iowa which is a caucus around the worner corner for the process, you see her pretty much leading that process voting, a centrist like to Pete Buttigieg responds to polls previously that shows country leads in Democratic Party was moving towards socialism mostly young people we know young people dont vote, but young people do sometimes control the direction of the Democratic Party so this is going to be a very interesting inconsequence consequential. The preponderance for Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg lack of support into later primary states, from black voters, that is joe biden south carolina, but broadly speaking, the democratic nominee needs president obamas voters regardless of race to come out, 4. 4 Million People who went out and voted for president obama in 2012 did not come out for Hillary Clinton in 2016 did not vote more than a third of that 4. 4 million was black voters. That is not including say latinos, so that is the biggest problem not only winning the nomination, but needing those critical voters there. In the faceoff with President Trump. That is why we see a lot of democrats being a weesing to this policy of representations i think a complete total scam fraud on African Americans certainly insult to say that tur right dagen absolutely looking to solidify this base president obama has regardless of race for African Americans in the democratic primary heart and soul of party, joe biden regardless of what he says, what his particular comments on race or 94 crime bill the one leading because the one still attached to the obama legacy very did i for Elizabeth Warren to beat him in that particular area. But seems like she is biteing into that base a bit. Would who do you think Elizabeth Warrens base is . Interesting i think i think it is millennials i think the generation after millennials i think that young people as a whole really appreciate her stance on student loans, debt cancellation i think that itself important a lot of young folks appreciate the fact she set so many plans in motion over a dozen policies to pay for and no other president ial candidate in the democratic field has done so i know that they haven;t done so because they want the flexibility of a general election to kind of change their position. So i think that is part of the reason they want somebody going to be bold strong up front versus potentially changing policies in a general election. Good morning mitch one of the things i want to go back to something earlier about trump arriving record amount of money. If war oxygen win the if she should win Iowa Caucuses does that mean the folks that may not even have skin in the game in this election start giving money to trump, for fear that warren actually goes farther . You know what, if we look at some of the things i say for example the wrote a democrats said if Elizabeth Warren was to get nomination, they would either they would either step aside and give money to trump, or just wouldnt be involved in general, i think there is a lot of people that think that. Folks know that if Elizabeth Warren is the nominee, then for a lot of folks going to be a potential trump win, considering the polling data showing that if a very tight narrow window for her to beat President Donald Trump, especially when he turns focus on a particular candidate we see the polling data changes, pretty rapidly and they reduce about joe biden, a reduction in polling data when he started really beating up on biden i think that would happen with a warren as well. Maria i to thefully agree i think there are democrats out there not Trump Supporters but if Elizabeth Warren they will quietly pull donald trump leather in 2020 let me ask you about senator Chuck Schumers plan a plan that aims to steer american drivers toward electric vehicles is offerings cash vouchers rebates up to 3,000 dollars the price tag for government 454billiondollar plan however, your reaction to this, and we know that we have been trying to see, these electric vehicles resonate they havent done so in a broad way. Well, i think it is the grinch stole economy proposed plan like this, where you are really almost because it is a Buyback Program you are almost forcing people to turn in, their vehicles for some type of rebate is fairly disappointing think by what president obama did his goal to invest 5 billion dollars, get what look at a million electricity cars on the road. That plan failed. This one is a really i mean gigantic plan would really change structure of our economy offering the kind of money this is something i dont think will work certainly i know for Chuck Schumer, he is looking to throw out as much as he can to potentially win back the senate, just not going to work i think people will reject it, and people like their gas cars, they want electricity vehicle can buy one right now. Quick thing seems replacement for the taxbreak for buying electricity vehicle not replacements but, again, because there are a certain number of vehicles for when you get the tax break tesla, 7800 dollars i believe at high end then disappears over time. Is reduced and stairstepped this appears a way to give a credit. To people to go out buy electricity vehicles where they should be spending money if spending this kind of plan is to install electricity charged stations so people would be able to drive vehicles. One of the big issues there arented enough charged stations improve delivery of natural gas around the country that is another issue in terms of the about electricity that needs to be generated. Good to see you. Please final comments from you. Right, yeah, i mean so, yeah, they want to put areas like minority areas, Rather Inner City areas rural areas a large price tag i cant see this something would ever pass senate one of those wish list items in which Senate Democrats are using to try to get back the senate i dont think will pay off well for them. Maria good to see you thanks so much. Have great seeing you. Maria have a great weekend the influencer economy what is it . Maria welcome back big business of influencers people with large social media followers, and following able to turn that into big money spotlighting products places, to millions of consumers who follow them not just like names like Cristiano Rinaldo Kim Kardashian every day people social media celebrities even children, Companies Spending billions on those influencers, joining us right now ryan, the influential ceo what does a brand look for in have an we match the brands based off tarnt data demographics con textual relevancy to find best possible people want influence entirely engaged speaks with specific content fitness far fashionista gamer match that he perfectly in Brand Content on social platforms can make a lot of money. A crowded space i like at ingraham feed sponsor post ads by varies influencers do you think this hit a saturation point i am not going to buy anything on feeds because i know it is an ad. So i would say that there are some influencers that we call have back hood, logs the case people lost, but a human a trusts human more than a human trusts a brand brands great, of course, you are the brand but if you are influencer how great that is helps your live out would i trust that showing that you are driving people more to sales, in store online, foot traffic anything to do around measurement much higher for persontoperson versus brand to person. Dagen it is Dagen Mcdowell the wall street journal had indepth look at influencers how some advertisers are questioning when they are getting the for their money. A quote this is the quote from the article with deceit pains flurz are marketplace influencers strained ties with advertisers inflating number of followers sometimes buying take ones by thousands damaged credibility with real life followers promoting products they dont use i point to the fire festival, all those very attractive models paid to post about the fire festival, and then we know the disaster that ensued. Sure. I would say there are spoton if it was 2017. Two years later all things around fraud measurements authenticity have been admit gaitdz created by Companies Like yourselves i can make sure no one has fake followers that they in fact bot them in the recent past if engagement buying, all that is detectable you can pick out flurz if they really have engaged audience the fire festival i heard it all the time did work with a bad product the end i think they have to trust the people that are advertising for you, if you in fact mess up you lose that trust of a consumer they will not follow you or they will speak negatively about you will hurt your value your growth of the brand i think endemic that people with help grow their own audience in exchange for money but it has to be money well earned authentic not to pay rent. Dagen a i point out that article was reported in 2019 they are talking to advertisers in 2019 right now, so if they are having problems with the influencer market 2019 problems so that we work with big for the un 1,000 it grows double in size if you can see efficacy i am happy to speak directly to tell them brands the biggest in the world looking to find out there is an individual post influencer post driving to take action the answer is yes. Closely watching the consumer. Want to see what things look like going into the Holiday Season, especially since we heard from amazon, theres a little some concern about the holiday. Maria sure is. We have Consumer Sentiment coming out in about an hour from university of michigan. Im wearing my university of michigan cuff links. My sons sitting in macro econ right now. Maria enjoy that. Dagen . So the Justice Department has opened a criminal inquiry with john durham and bill barr leading the charge into the russia investigation. Watch the people who were so outraged about President Trump criticizing bob mueller, they will go after this, they will criticize it even though its trying to right a wrong and basically ensure that Law Enforcement continues to have the powers that are so valuable to protecting the republic, like that of surveillance. Maria if we dont seek accountability here, people will not trust the fbi, not going to trust the department of justice. Its pretty clear what went on. I think you look back over the last three years and see how many times john brennan was on tv saying that donald trump committed treason, you could have guessed that maybe the cia had a hand in things. Well be watching that. Have a great weekend, everybody. Varney Company Begins right now. Ashley webster in for Stuart Varney this morning. Take it away. Ashley thank you very much. Good morning.
