Is facing bikini backlash. It is thursday, october 3rd. Fbn a. M. Starts right now. Bang, bang into the room. I know you want it. Bang, bang, all over you. Ill let you have it. Wait a minute r, let me take you there. Bang, bang there goes your heart. Lauren welcome to fbn a. M. Im lauren simonetti. Cheryl good morning, everyone. Im cheryl casone. Lauren lets take a look at how your money is moving. Two days of triple dig e digit , the dow down nearly 600 points yesterday, and about 840 points evaporated in two days of heavy selling. Some relief this morning, dow futures are up by 70 points, nasdaq up 27. Cheryl weve seen a flight to safety the last two days, moneys been flowing into bonds and prices went up, the yield tumbling. The yield under pressure again, 1. 58 , a loss of 2 basis points. Lauren european investors responding to new u. S. Tariffs, the German Market is closed today. Cheryl the kospi is closed as are chinese markets, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the rule of the communist party. Lauren washington yo affecting wall street, President Trump pointing the finger at the impeachment inquiry for yesterdays selling. Reporter President Trump taking note of the market selloff and shifting the blame from jay powell to democrats. The president tweeting at one point wednesday morning, quote, all of this impeachment nonsense which is going nowhere is driving the stock market and your 401ks down, but that is exactly what the democrats want to do. That tweet coming as nancy pelosi and the head of the House Intelligence Committee, adam schiff, were holding a News Conference on the impeachment inquiry. Schiffs office is acknowledging the whistleblower contacted a staff member on the House Intelligence Committee before filing the complaint. Schiffs office says, consistent with the longstanding procedures, Committee Staff appropriately advised the whistleblower to contact and Inspector General and to seek legal counsel. But the New York Times also reports the staffer relayed some of the conversation to schiff. President trump is now leveling this accusation. Its a scandal, that he knew before. I think he probably helped write it. Thats a big story. He knew long before and he helped write it too. Its a scam. Its a scam. Reporter schiff argued that the president is inappropriately attacking the whistleblower. This is a blatant effort to intimidate witnesses. Its an insightment to violence. And i would hope and were starting to see members of both parties speaking out against attacking this whistleblower, others that have pertinent information. Reporter this unfolded as the president hosted his counter part from finland to the white house. The two discussing 5g as nokia is headquartered in finland. Back to you in new york. Cheryl chan thank you so muc. President trumps certainal attorney, rudy giuliani, appeared on lou dobbs tonight. He said the president is considering a lawsuit against adam schiff. Youre surprised that hes once again conspiring to level false charges against the president of the united states, the guy who claimed that he had direct evidence of russian collusion, lied to the american people. For two years. As part of the other conspiracy to claim. Thats why were considering a lawsuit with him as one of the principal defendants individually. He doesnt have immunity when hes off the floor of the congress. Cheryl earlier this week the chairman of three House Committee subpoenaed giuliani for documents. Lauren concerns over the health of senator Bernie Sanders, that could benefit senator Elizabeth Warren who is a leading critic of wall street. Bernie sanders keeps an ambitious schedule. He canceled seven Campaign Events after a heart procedure following some discomfort he experienced in he nevada tuesday. Sanders is 78 years old. He had two stents inserted into an artery. His campaign is using the news to highlight the benefits of his med kir for all proposal and today President Trump is set to visit florida to unveil his own medicare plan. Cheryl breaking news out of hong kong this morning. According to the wall street journal, the government is planning to invoke Emergency Powers for the first time in more than 50 years. Protesters would be banned from wearing face masks that youve been seeing on the video coming out of there. The cabinet is set to meet tomorrow to discuss the plan of the emergency the invocation of the emergency order. Police associations have been urging the city to impose cur curfews and other tough measures. Goldman sachs says over 4 billion has been moved from hong kong to singapore, safety concerns there. Lauren as we look at whats happening in hong kong and in the u. S. , is now the time for a trade deal with china . Because we have trade tensions now also with the european union. The world trade oranization ruled that the Trump Administration can impose tariffs on 7. 5 billion of eu imports after a legal battle over europes subsidies for airbus. The tariffs due to take effect october 18th. They target some popular items, french wine, scotch whiskey, italian cheese, in addition to aircraft and hand tools. Cheryl theyre messing with the wine. I cant believe it. Airline stocks, by the way, tumbled on that wto decision. Think about the parts, folks. American airlines parents and delta airlines, they both closed down 5 , both of those companies do have airbus aircraft. United parent, that company plunged nearly 5 . Southwest airlines closed down more than 2 . And then speaking of delta, delta airlines, the airlines is warning that the wto ruling could, quote, inflict serious harm on u. S. Airlines. Again, many u. S. Airlines fly the airbus. Delta has ordered more than 250 planes right now from airbus, thats the order. Well see if the order sticks. Lauren and staying with boeing, some disturbing revelations from one of their engineers who helped develop the 737 max. According to published reports, the engineer filed an internal complaint after the two crashes, saying the companys culture had an effect. Boeing said quality and integ integrity are at the core of the values. Cheryl the ceo discussed why pilots were unable to prevent the two 737 max planes from crashing. He was in new york yesterday. Heres what he said. The early information established that in both flights a Software Function activated in response to Incorrect Information from an external airplane sensor, as part of a broader chain of events. This cree oughte korea ated mord for created more workload for the pilots. Cheryl Southwest Airlines says it doesnt expect to fly the 737 max again. The pilots in particular said this from southwest, until march of 2020. Lauren lets talk jobs. Google is joining a White House Initiative for job training. Googles ceo and ivanka trump will host a round table in dallas today discussing the initiative designed to get private companies to expand job training for american workers. Ivanka trump oversees the working training earth. She wilefforts. She will be on tn tomorrow for an exclusive intervie. Dont want to miss it. Cheryl its been a busy week so far for secretary of state mike pompeo. He is overseas and he just met with pope francis at the vatican this morning. Lauren Tracee Carrasco has the details. Hi, tracee. Tracee the nations top diplomat meeting with several leaders of the Catholic Church while on a tour of europe. The visit with pope francis has been on pompeos official calendar for weeks and comes amid the whistleblower controversy in washington. Overnight, north korea declares its Ballistic Missile test a success. Leaders say the missile traveled nearly 300 miles and could be launched from a submarine. Lauren the dow is building by a third of 1 , nasdaq is up about half of 1 this morning. Still ahead, microsoft unveiling a slew of new gadgets including a surprise phone to take on the samsung fold. But not so fast. Why you may want to keep them off the top of your holiday list this year. Plus, what americans spend the most on, its more than food, clothing and healthcare combined. Lets take a look at the National Average for gasoline, 2. 66 for a gallon of regular. Keep it here, fbn a. M. , fox business. Were invested in you. Stop dragging my. Stop dragging my. Stop dragging my heart ive been a caregiver for 20 years. No two patients are the same. Predicting the next step for them can be challenging. Announcer fidelity is redefining value with zero account fees for brokerage accounts. And zero minimums to open an account. At fidelity those zeros really add up. Maybe ill win saved by zero cheryl its a race to the bottom. Etrade is dropping commissions on trades. This will take effect october 7th. The company saying that its going to take take a quarterlyo revenue, about 75 million by eliminating the commissions. Lauren the Dow Jones Industrial average plunged more than 800 points over the last few days. The dow, nasdaq, s p all sharply lower so far in october, down as much as 3 , and we are only three days in. We dont have that board for you. Investors reacting to disappointing reports on manufacturing, also private sector hiring. That ahead of todays report on the services sector. We bring in Francis Newton stacy, director of strategy. Thats a concern, francis, that the weak read on manufacturing, perhaps from the trade war, is bleeding into the consumer. Are you worried about that . A little bit. Lauren just a little bit. Had you surprised by the s are you surprised by the selling weve seen . Im not surprised, actually. Whats interesting,s is now the market is starting to price in the economic data. Before, the l volatilit volatily muted and the market was going to go you up and up and up because nobody wanted to be short, ahead of a trade deal. Its kind of healthier for the market to sort of digest these manufacturing numbers. However, i do expect the ism, todays manufacturing number, to be stronger than lauren you mean the nonmanufacturing number. The services. Lauren yeah. Its early. It is early. Thank you. I expect the nonmanufacturing number to be higher than the pmi, the manufacturing number on tuesday that really created all of the volatility. Lauren okay. Got it. So as we look at the damage that weve seen here in the u. S. , we have a little bit of a recoverily this morninrecoveriyu expect things to get . When you look at whats going on in hong kong, and the pressure its putting on xijinping, when you look whats happening in the u. S. , is now the time for the leaders to say lets end the trade war. Yes, that would be so fantastic if we could do that. As far as yesterdays selloff, so far we have a higher low on previous years of volatility that had to do with twitter and the trade war, et cetera. And so far they volatility index which is a gauge of fear has not hit a new high. So barring some very bad news, some surprises in these numbers, some twitter stuff, god forbid, barring any of these things, i think the market has priced this in. I think because of the algorithmic type selling that occurs, markets sold off a little much yesterday for the manufacturing number on tuesday, so ma anyway, i expect to go hir barring something bad. Lauren investors seem to get excited about ipos and weve seen ipos from unicorns, uber, lyft, wework pulled theirs, so diden evidence defer. Now were talking about airbnb coming sometime in 2020. Can they make investors favor these unicorns once again and change the story line a little bit . I dont think so. I think its too late cycle to have these sort of ipos with their new valuation metrics, personally, and ill tell you, because investors are never going to pick that. If the Business Cycle rolls out, the trade war intensifies, people are not going to pick their favorite ipo, theyre going to go with old faithful and that stock with history. Lauren francis, that is not encouraging but we thank you anyway. Cheryl maybe that airbnb hotel in miami will save them. I dont know. Lets talk about walmart. Theyre looking to cut healthcare costs for their workers. They announced a number of new programs set to start on januar. One program will connect workers in arkansas, florida and texas with local doctors so they dont have to rely on word of mouth for their healthcare and employees in north and South Carolina are going to test a Concierge Service that will help with billing and making appointments and also colorado, wisconsin, minnesota, patients are going to be able to video chat from home with a doctor for 4 per chat. And americans spent a lot of money on the things that they needed last year, between food, clothing and healthcare, about 14,758. For 2018. But guess what they spent more on . Their taxes. The average american spent a total of 18,618 on their tax bill for 2018. That is almost a 4,000 difference. Weve got a lot more coming up. Theres question for you, is your phone betraying you . Well tell you about a new product that could have your gadgets leaking your secrets to hackers. Its one of the worst things about traveling but now Congress Wants to put an end to it. How the feds are looking to make things just a little bit nicer on your next vacay. Youre watching fbn a. M. Half of my heart is tired. I wish i could shake your hand. Granted. Only pay for what you need. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Cheryl microsoft looking to take on samsung. The company has unveiled a bunch of new products at an event in new york yesterday. They made the big splash with a smart phone that unfolds and reveals two separate screens p. It seems to be microsofts answer to the samsung foldable phone which weve talked about on the show. They showed off a surface pro laptop and surface ear buds. They wont be available until next year. Youve got to wait. Lauren brett larson is shaking his head right now. Apple lightning cables that allow someone to get into your phone remotely may soon be available on the open market. Cheryl aforementioned brett larson is here. This is i use ubers lightning cable, now im wondering. It might be a bad idea. We learned about this at the Hacker Convention in las vegas earlier this year, where someone figured out you can hide inside inside the lightning cables, basically a thumb drive could be hidden in the cable and you wouldnt notice it. It would look just like a regular cable. They can hide a Wifi Hot Spot Network in there so they can connect to wifi networks. Then when you connect it to your phone, your data connection could be compromised from this cable. Cheryl do they have to be close to me . They have to be plugged into your phone. Cheryl the hacker isnt next to me, theyre somewhere else. They could be anywhere in the world. They could have left it in a uber like you were suggesting, they could have left it at an airport bar. How often have you been out and about, abd yo and you see someot their cable and you think im going to charge it up. Lauren how often is this happening . So far, we have no reports of this happening. The bad news, theyre going into production and theyre going to be for sale. Cheryl and theyre public. And they look just like the regular cable. We reached out to apple about this. Apple had no comment. We should tell you, there are certified cables for apple products, the made for iphone cables that you should look for. Apple suggests turning off the usb connection so if someone plugs in theyre not able to get your data. Lauren are those cables cheaper . No, they will be more expensive. Cheryl theyre like 100. That cable was not 100. Did it come out of a vending machine, with a gold ring. Cheryl give me my cable back. Brett, thank you. Lauren good to see you, brett. You can catch brett on fox News Headlines 24 7 on sirius xm channel 115. And heres your cable back. Cheryl thats my cable. Give me that. Well, its not just your phone that can be hacked. It could soon be medical devices. Theres a government warning out that operating systems that Power Medical devices are vulnerable to hackers. They can take control of the device, change how it functions, even leak your personal information. The flaw rests within software called if net, the fda said some manufacturers are trying to fix the flaw. Were talking about implantable devices. You could be at risk because of this. Lauren evidently directtv doesnt want you to cancel its service. The company charging an early termination fee to the family of a 102yearold woman who died last december. The family wanted to cancel the service after she passed away. Directtv charged them 160. The service was added for the daughter of a caregiver that had to care for the woman. They apologized to the womans family and waived the fee. Cheryl a dramatic temperature drop as a cold front moved to the east. Lauren janice dean is live in the Fox Weather Center with the forecast and the big drop in the temperatures, hey, janice. Janice here in new york city, we were up to 91 yesterday. It is 55 right now. That is a powerful cold front. And you can see it with the cooler air behind the boundary, still very warm, though, across the south and southeast. Theres that cold front, in some cases 20 to 30degree difference as we go throughout the day, really impressive stuff p. Showers and thunderstorms along the front will continue to occur today from the southwest up towards the great lakes. Even getting some snow across the northern plains. We still have flooding potential where you see the areas shaded in green, especially across the ohio and Mississippi River valley. Theres the prescription over the next 24 hours preop precipitation over the next 24 hours. We could see the he potential for some isolated flash flooding. Yoahead of the front we have wam temperatures across you houston and atlanta. The daytime high in new york city is going to be 59. Yesterday, 91. Incredible. Cheryl im sorry, but did we break records yesterday . Janice janice yes, a ton of records. In newark, we tied a record. Yes, dozens and dozens of High Temperature records were broken. Lauren lets take a look at the action on wall street this thursday, after steep selling the past two days and 840 points slashed from the Dow Jones Industrial average, its up 86. Joe bidens getting fired up. Can it help him get his edge back over Elizabeth Warren in 2020 . And the College Admissions story taking an interesting turn as one Company Revealed a Halloween Costume based on the scandal. Youre not going to believe what it looks like. Keep it here on fbn a. M. Cheryl im excited for that. Well, i love a rainy night. I love a rainy night. I love to hear the thunder. Watch the lightning when it lights up the sky. You know it makes me take your companys app. We can add in all sorts of capabilities, which help your customers manage rewards, offers, and payments on the fly. And now, applying for credit can happen in a flash. That way, more people can start shopping with you on the spot, wherever they are. Hows that for changing whats possible . Lauren we have a bomb shell in the white houses search for answers over joe bidens and is sons dealing with the ukraine. The prosecutor at the center of the scandal said he was forced to stop his investigation. Cheryl Griff Jenkins joins us live from washington to break it all down. Reporter good morning. What fox news has obtained is a copy of gulianis notes from january of his interview with a former ukrainian prosecutor, who is at the center of the controversy. He bragged on camera about getting fired. Guliani claims he was told to back off from the investigation into the Natural Gas Company. Guliani writes this, mr. Shokin attempted to continue the investigation but the u. S. Ambassador told him that the investigation has to be handled with white gloves, which according to mr. Shokin. That implied do nothing. Its worth noting, he is no stranger to accusations of corruption himself. As we learned, the state department general turned over the documents to congress yesterday, giuliani said shokin will come to washington. He said hes hes more than willing to come to america and testify before congress and point the finger at joe biden and his son and support what the president said today, theyre corrupt as sin. Reporter last night, a defiant joe biden had much to say in his own defense. It was a fully transparent policy. Carried out in front of the whole world. We werent pressing ukraine to get rid of tough prosecutor. We were pursuing ukraine to replace a weak prosecutor who wouldnt do his job. With someone at the time we hoped would finally crack down on corruption in ukraine. Reporter President Trump continued to attack his potential 2020 opponent. Look, biden and his son are stone cold crooked. His son walks out with millions of dollars. The kid knows nothing. You know it and so do we. Reporter no indication yet if any of any any of those three committees investigating will call shokin across the at lain. Cheryl lets bring in carrie kim. What do you make of all this . Joe biden has a trifold problem. One, he has a money problem. The code creates a reasonable person standard and what that means is that if a reasonable person looks at whether hunter biden should have received 50,000 a month from ukraine to sit on a Natural Gas Company at the exact same time his dad as Vice President visited the country, i mean, a reasonable person would look at that and say that is in fact crooked. Two, he has a momentum problem. He has dropped 10 points in two new polls that came out yesterday and furthermore, those point drops were from his stronghold in South Carolina, where senator Elizabeth Warren has gained 10 points in African American voters and, finally, the third problem that Vice President joe biden has is he has never been mr. President. Cheryl okay. I want to take something that you said over to laura who is with us as well. Laura, i won director if what she i wonder if what she mentioned here, this fiery pushback from joe biden, does it put him at risk, looks like he has something to hide . The only fire is in trumps camp. Thats because we know ultimately this is kind of a circus of distraction from the fact that theres a conflagration around impeachment. They did in fact withhold aid, 250 million in bipartisan aid from ukraine with the new president and then placed a phone call to place pressure on him to investigate a political owe pepoliticalopponent of pres. Thats where the fire is. Ultimately, joe bidens going to be fine in all this. Raised 22. 9 million over the quarter and remains strong, remains one of the three frontrunners. You see shifting in the democratic field. I think thats a reflection of the strength of the candidates that remain. Cheryl i want to ask about that. The healthcare with Bernie Sanders yesterday, do you think this will empower warren and her campaign and her supporters . Because the thinking has been that warren and sanders have been spliting the progressive vote, the left, left vote and this may help Elizabeth Warren. How do you respond . Elizabeth warren sent over dinner to Bernie Sanders campaign, a tip of the hat and a congenial gesture in support. Cheryl does this help her . Wall street yesterday was pretty darn worried about a warren frankly, a warren candidacy or a warren presidency. They do not like the idea of Elizabeth Warren. Absolutely. Elizabeth warren takes no prisoners and is aa frayed of no one. You afraid of no one you saw that in the attempts to split up big tech, amazon, facebook and Mark Zuckerbergs response. Those policies are broadly popular across party lines. She is carrying the water against institutional powers and so ultimately wall street and bankers are particularly popular on main street. Cheryl theyve got money, laura. I do think shes strong. Cheryl theyve got money that hes flows in the campaigns, its called donations. I want to stay with Elizabeth Warren. She has come you out in support of legislation that aoc has put forward, alexandria ocasiocortez, that would give Welfare Benefits to ex convicts, give Welfare Benefits to illegal aliens, im talking food stamps, access to medicaid. The last word to you. Thats the problem with the democratic party. Clearly laura hasnt read the five page whistleblower comment. Actually, i have. They havent read the i let you speak. Give me my opportunity. The problem is when they put together their plan, its exactly 90 paragraphs that does absolutely nothing to diminish the power and control of government. The issue as it relates to welfare and giving those benefits back to those individuals who are in prison, i have no problem with people getting jobs. We shouldnt continue to expand government programs. Cheryl ladies, thank you both so much. Were out of time. I really enjoyed our discussion and spirited debate. Thank you so much. Lauren Vladimir Putin making light of the 2016 election meddling scandal here in the u. S. , when asked if he has plans to interfere with next years president ial election. Ill tell you in strict confidence, yes, we are definitely going to do it, to make you finally laugh properly. Dont tell anyone, okay . Lauren jokes aside, u. S. Intelligence found russia did interfere with the 2016 president ial election and warns they will likely do it again in 2020. Still ahead, 2020 democrats pushing free college, erasing student debt but theres a fact their own proposed policies backfire on their promises. And youre not going to believe why this woman got denied a job. De got denied a job she was aa flying for. Keep it here on fbn a. M. Ah come on lets hide in the attic. No. In the basement. Why cant we just get in the running car . Are you crazy . Lets hide behind the chainsaws. Smart. Yeah. Ok. If youre in a horror movie, you make poor decisions. Its what you do. This was a good idea. Shhhh. Im being quiet. Youre breathing on me if you want to save fifteen percent or more on car insurance, you switch to geico. Its what you do. Lets go to the cemetery as a principal i can tell you this. When one student gets left behind, we all get left behind. This is a problem that affects each and every one of us. Together with ibm, we created a whole new kind of School Called ptech. Within six years, students can graduate with a high school diploma, a College Degree, and a pathway to a competitive job. You know whats going up today . My poster. Today, there are more than a hundred thousand ptech students around the world. Its a game changer. Lauren 2020 democratic president ial hopefuls trying to attract young voters with promises of Free College Tuition and elimination of student loan debt. Are the proposals too good to be true and will they actually help, especially when coupled with proposed tax increases. We bring in tamra highler, director of education at third way. Good morning. Are these policies too good to be true coming from the Progressive Left . So, i think whats at the heart of all of these policies of course is this idea of College Affordability. This is a topic thats at the forefront of a lot of americans minds. We know that a College Degree is still worth it and pays off but a lot of americans are really concerned about how theyre going to help either themselves or their families pay for that College Degree. That being said, of course a lot of the Democratic Candidates right now have a ton of different proposals and policy ideas on the table to help more americans pay for college. Some of which i think are doing a better job at being able to really target the resources towards the students that need them the most. So we know for example that a lot of these universal Free College Programs or some of these Debt Forgiveness programs oftentimes ends up being regressive. Lauren how so . They actually end up benefiting upper and middle class students more, mainly because a lot of low income students can already qualify for other important Financial Aid through the pell grant program, for example. That being said, we know we could be doing more to invest in those low income students and so theres other policy proposals or smarter ways that we could be targeting that such as for example doubling the investment that we put into pell. Lauren heres my question. Whether you everyone agrees College Affordability is a huge problem in the u. S. But one way that colleges are more affordable is a although of ultra rich generous americans giving money, giving their hardearned money, their billions of dollars to higher education. Giving usa fines a record 47 billion in higher ed just last year. Does that go away when you have some candidates saying were going to tax your wealth. I think whats important to know about that 47 billion thats incredibly important, that actually went more than a quarter went to only 20 very elite institutions, were talking about 20 schools, your harvard, your stanford, your yales of the world that are serving less than actually 2 of the entire collegegoing population. Three quarters of all students actually go to public schools, 40 go to community colleges. So while we know that wealthy individuals are actually giving their money, alumni donations to endowments, thats affecting a very small portion of students so we could do better than that. Lauren it still counts especially when theres programs by billionaires to erase medical debt for future doctors. Thank you for joining me bright and early. Cheryl a Marketing Company has shamed a job applicant for posting a bikini picture on her instagram account. Theres the picture. The Company Posted her picture on their Instagram Story and they put this caption up. Do not share your social media with a po a potential employ eaf this is the kind of context on it. If passed, hotels wouldnt be able to charge anything more than what they advertised. Not including government imposed taxes and fees of course. I want to bring up the issue of Boris Johnson. Hes going to be discussing the brexit plan this morning. He will be addressing the house of commons. What will you be listening for . We want to see clarity. What well see in october is a truncated time scale, maybe the queens speech on october 14t october 14th. At the same time, youve got on the 17th of october the Eu Council Meeting and the 19th Boris Johnson is meant to be applying for an extension to the brexit deadline. This may tilt some of the times that take place from a political perspective. Were expecting a general election between november and december this year. Prosecutors are seeking eight months of prison but defense lawyers say kaplan should get no more than 14 days, matching what Actress Felicity Huffman received.
