President trump threatening to impose a threat on september the first that would mean that every dollar of imports into this country has a tariff on it. Protest in hong kong still ongoing with over 100 Flights Canceled at the airport today. This is a rough start. What do you make of the Goldman Sachs call. I was talking to a bunch of traders who in an observation the trade war is not impacting just our economy but impacting all global economies the uncertainty regarding investment in the Global Economic environment is really weighing on all economies is not just as that want to resolve it for the sake of our growth. Its our countries as well. That has a lot to do with this trade. Be careful what you wish for. If we send china into recession that basically could be our downfall. We are already seeing the currency moves last week and us designating the currency manipulator it probably wont go anywhere because they arent on board with that. You basically have a foreign currencies collapsing while the higher dollar amount paid back. We always point to the consumer. Do you have any sense. What will be the Tipping Point its one thing after another. People seem numb it to them. At this point we were talking about the impact on people for so long. It second happened. I think until people actually feel it right now just can be one more thing trump will blow this up and we will have a recession. There is a lot of boy who cried wolf here. Once there is a symbolic, it feels like in my pocketbook that things are different now. I dont think people will feel differently. The markets seem to be equalizing for them and for the most part Consumer Confidence is at an alltime high. I dont think we will see that shift until something that we all feel. What you make of the china trade fight. I think lee has a good point. They have the political will to carry this on for as long as they would like. They are a state run the government they can do what they want. What we head in the United States is the that the economic will to last for as long as we like. With that being said that doesnt seem to be very far away. With the most recent move to put this to the last level of tariffs with consumer goods. I think you will see this thing come to some sort of an end. Weve been going on in this trade war for almost two years and we havent seen any real resolution or benefit to american businesses or consumers. Is starting to weigh in. You are hearing more and more guidance in the Second Quarter earnings from companies saying if the trader work continues then we will adjust down. I want to move on to the 2020 candidates if we can. They indicate that there are number of candidates that have not registered on the polls. Will have to wait and see what happens. In the next to me because of the threshold thats a little bit higher. I think joe is in the same boat right now. Its a very similar thing with the democrats and what theyre going through right now. I dont think, Harris Kamala harris learned that. I constantly got extended. It shines the light in our industrial confidence the issues are about equity and fairness in is about making sure you of will treat folks doing the right job. Its about justice for the victims. We will get into the legal intervals of this. That is the Biggest Issue. The thing i think its really interesting as theyre talking to people out there a lot of people are not surprised and people dont blame the guards that much either for letting it happen or for looking the other way and then theres the more nefarious accusations and who knows if it really happened. I dont think its good to can be an issue that puts a low crisis image into that system. What does this mean for the victims are they going to get prosecution, will they continue to investigate these crimes. Tomorrow i think the crisis already exists. A what we had realized over the past couple of years its better to be rich and guilty than to be poor and innocent in our justice system. Also, the crisis we are talking about is the rest occlusion hoax. There was clearly russian interference in the election. Billionaire tech investor peter thiel targeting google, maria sitting down with founder and take on why the fbi should be investigating the tech giant. You wrote this oped in flashing times recently and the title was good for google, bad for america, you talk about google has walked away from the pentagon contract and working with china, in fact, working with Chinese Military. Tell us the crux of the oped . The Ai Artificial Intelligence Technology and and ai means a lot of different things, can be used in a lot of different ways but clearly has a lot of military applications for processing satellite images, helping create process data, you know, automating drone warfare, cyber warfare, tall ai is dual use thing, like nuclear technology, has built military and civilian uses, project in contract that google was part of it was supplying the Ai Technologies to u. S. Military and pulled out from that as a result of, you know, employee protests inside google. At the same time, google has a major Ai Research Lab in china where even though its not working correctly with the Chinese Military, all the Technology Gets handed on to the Chinese Military and this is not a controversial crazy conspiracy theory, this is in black and white in the constitution of the Chinese Communist party, as of 2017 got amended to stress that there needs to be Civil Military fusion in china where all things need to be integrated and anything that has civilian uses must be handed over to Peoples Liberation army. Poa. Maria any technology that comes into china has to be reviewed and used or looked at if it can be helpful to the military. Sure, t a communist oneparty state and so things are sort of fused, its not like the u. S. Where you have Different Companies and different people and you have, you know, you have a government sector and private sector and these things dont always coordinate or Work Together n china these things are still tightly coordinated across the board. Maria theres ai and agi, artificial general intelligence, give me the difference between the two and how is ai enabling the Chinese Military . Well, theyre both of catchall phrases, artificial general intelligence is super human, work you might have in Science Fiction movie and the way people talk about ai, this abstract thing thats going to be very different that may or may not happen decades, centuries from now, whats actually happening is machine learning, Artificial Intelligence and its much more helping process satellite images, helping with the cyber warfare, things like that, and thats its a social creditscoring system in china where you have computers to track people and control the society more, policestate version, military version and all sorts of different applications of this and in that sense ai, think of it cutting edge of the computer revolution today, sort of the most advanced computer r d. Right now computers cant reason the way humans cant, they cant show emotion, agi they would be able to. Its about whats happening today, ai, they cant reason but maybe see that, you know, youre Maria Bartiromo and we can track your movements or Something Like that. Maria so tell me how this came about where google decided to walk away from the u. S. Government and work with china . Well, you can always speculate on on whats actually going on inside google, i think google selfimage would be its globe globalists, the reality is its more insular and people have shocking reality about outside world and the kinds of things you said about western china and conversations that people have a great deal inside google and you can think of it as, you know, almost like as aspergers or autism. He has made point many times that this is a National Security risk, that china represents a National Security risk because of this very reason, they may be ahead of us in ai, these are some of the areas that america wants to be number one in, so let me ask you about that in terms of where we are versus china in terms of ai. Well, i think we are we are ahead, i think, you know, i think google is probably still the leading place for ai research not just in the u. S. But worldwide, we are not ahead by that much and it doesnt matter that much if it gets, if all of our discoveries get transferred to china in very short order. And so i dont think its , yes, its sort of like we were ahead with the Nuclear Program and at some point we werent. Maria quite significant that chinas intelligence agencies have been feeding people into american companies, whats going on in Silicon Valley, whats happening with chinese nationals working within our institutes, whats your take on all of that . Well, this gets very speculative, it would be odd if there wasnt like this going on, to zero in on the google example where the ai deep mind effort was described by its own founder as Manhattan Project for ai, even though it was meant as probably marketing hyperbole in a way, i think that, you know, people outside the u. S. Might very well take that literally and so if you go around saying, here is Manhattan Project for ai, Pay Attention, world, i think that would attract the attention of foreign governments, foreign intelligence agencies and i think in particular the question about chinese interest and this is one that needs to be looked at much more carefully and i argue that the fbi or cia should be looking at this. Maria do you get pressure because youve supported President Trump . Yeah, a lot i think theres always an inside and outside question, the outside questions what are companies doing with china, are they censoring speech, and and the twitter mcconnell thing, you can say innocent accident or is it intentional active political sabotage, which of the two is it, one of the reason it is republicans are so skeptical of the of the excuses big tech has for the repeated accidents, the inside story is not good, because on the inside twitter is not a company where you have lots of people writing checks to senator mcconnell, if you had a lot of Campaign Donations from senator mcconnell, we might say to senator mcconnell, this is innocent mistake and we wont complain about it too much, thats not whats actually going on and and it has it has sort of this the feel of a very unhealthy oneparty state in a way thats not good for Silicon Valley or the politics of this country. Maria i mean, the president cant have a fundraiser without, you know, the people getting bullied about the fundraiser. Its gone its actually crazy, its real trump derangement syndrome happening. Right, and it is always, you know, im sort of the main outspoken sporter of President Trump inside Silicon Valley and many other people inside Silicon Valley that support the president but they are not going say, thats always the problem, unanimity doesnt mean that everybody agrees, normally means that everybody is too scared to speak up. Maria theres also breaches in privacy from big tech, you worry about google and you make an important case and i wanted our viewers to hear you say it, what google is doing in terms of working with Chinese Military, what about the fbi surveillance proposal setting up this clash with facebook . , you know, people are worried about being watched and listen today and here we have fbi surveillance proposing surveillance of facebook, whats your reaction to that . Well, thats i think very different kind of a debate, you to debate about encryption and should messages be generally be encrypted, i i do believe we should be support of encryption and make it harder for Law Enforcement in certain ways but on the other hand, it also can mean that you have less privacy to things being broken into and all sorts of other context and so i yeah, if you crypto everything maybe that goes back to rivals in china and things like that, i think the, i think the dogmatic back door to encryption that the fbi pushes is something i would disagree with. So what are the practical risks that we need to understand that exist with china having access to google ai lab, to the Google Technology . Well, i think its always helpful to understand the chinese perspective or the perspective of the Chinese Communist party and they believe that ai is dual use, civilian use and also military uses, they see the rivalry with the u. S. As pretty existential and and its going to be very important for the next few decades and thats why its going to be quite a challenge to get to some talk with china in the years ahead. I think how we navigate china is quite a tricky question, but the question about google strike mess in a very different one, thats a straightforward, thats a relatively easy question. Maria is this treason . I wouldnt go quite that far maria you want investigation to see if it is . I want investigation to see if theres foreign infiltration at a place like google, but i dont think its intentionally treasonous but autistically oblivious. Dagen futures decline almost 200 points at the moment, hong kong protests prompting investor uncertainty but really about the war that the u. S. Here to break it all down this morning radio host new leader senior fellow Fox News ContributorRichard Fowler, pollster and maslansky partners, lee carter and pwc partner Mitch Roschelle, welcome one and all, mitch, what are you watching for this week, we do have news, Consumer Prices on tuesday, retail sales, walmart earnings on thursday, would anything change mood of the markets which is one of grave concern i should say about the Global Economy . If those numbers come out inflations low and retail sales are strong reinforce the notion that consumer dependent economy is strong, every day that goes by where theres lack of clarity as to what is going to happen with the china deal and we continue to get bad news about other countries around the world that will continue to put pressure on markets, gdp in the uk was negative, they came out a couple of days ago last week so i think their markets are going to be continuing to be very defensive woring about whats worrying about whats going on in the world. Could be as much as 5 trilliondollar of nonGovernment Debt thats index to that Government Debt. Dagen banks hard hit last week and you saw the Bank Stocks Fall and money out. Lee, what are you watching in terms of the consumer and how people are feeling, you do you have this unusual convergence of the rhetoric from the campaign trail and from the president and negative news showing up in the markets and im wondering if that has confidence. When you look at democrat candidates and telling how bad the economy is right now, Elizabeth Warren was tweeting about this kind of thing, when we have evidence right now that people can look to to support the democrat, is the economy strong, are we going in recession, look at weakness, democrats will have points that they can drive home and resinate with voters, so i think that its a dangerous place for republicans to be in and they have to take it seriously and look at how this is going to play out. I think lee is absolutely right, look at overall marketplaces, the economy is doing well, we saw wages uptick a little bit, the problem everything around wages has gone up, whether itd be housing, Prescription Drug cost, any Early Childhood education, all the costs are gone up for working families, so now the economy indicators are already, and the American Worker has already experienced dagen overall inflation, thats actually the problem, that overall inflation is rock bottom, so from a political perspective pick out things that people get upset about like Prescription Drugs, but again, over all gasoline stays down. Gas is one thing that is still very the gasoline price is very much in check and thats kind of one thing that is a point of sore spot for people when gas start going up. S. Trade deal as democrats delay the vote, maria spoke exclusively with former white house chief strategist steve bannon asking him about sticking points of trace truce with china and the likelihood of adopting usmca. They have been taking american inpoint ofpoint of viewation for free for 10 or 15 years, i keep saying the sky is falling, i think President Trump has got them, he has all the cards right now and holds all the cards and being consistent, look, this is an economic war the chinese have been at the United States, technology part, currency part, its got a trade part. President trump las done i think a very solid job. Maria whats your take whether nancy pelosi brings usmca to the floor and european nations . President trump has a good deal, accommodated both of these nations particularly content situation in mexico, so china cant gain the system and send products through mexico, a deal that works for people, works for the farmers, i dont know how nancy pelosi holds this back, anything but partisan politics. Dagen joining me now ohio congressman Republican Committee and Second Amendment caucus warren davidson, congressman, good to see you, what are your expectations for getting the passage of usmca and u. S. China trading deal which the markets say you better get it done and you better it done fast. Thanks for covering the issue, trade is vitally important to ohio and to the nation, so prior to coming to congress i was in manufacturing 15 years on the receiving end of bad trade policy and when President Trump talked about getting after fixing our trade agreements, enthusiasm, just a tremendous amount of support from the country from this sector and still expecting great things and with usmca you can see we have a great agreement, we need to get it across the finish line, i expect itll have to be voted on september, maybe midoctober at the latest. Dagen Business Investment has weakened in the most recent quarter, actually turning negative, you have factory activity has slowed for several months in a row, manufacturing was, you know, the great manufacturing renaissance last year, but that being hit with trade negotiations, how long can the Manufacturing Companies and the very employees withstand these negotiations . Well, i think with the investment, thats the biggest reason we need some kind of certainty. So when i spoke with the president we were talking about how to move usmca agreement across the finish line, we were looking at steel stocks, more profitable than theyve been but the share prices, publictraded companies are down, not because of cash flow or normal economic models, people know that this could change maybe with one tweet, so we really need to get a law on the books, certainty to say markets can know where they are heading, 100 , 200 tariff or 0 tariff. When i talk to biggest companies, we go into annual planning in the fall and all we are looking is regulatory reform, tax reform, put the capital to work in america but the uncertainty on trade is causing them to pause and say, i dont know, where do we put it to work and so i think its a real factor that does need addressed. Dagen lest turn to gun regulations and aftermath of shootings in el paso, texas and dayton, ohio, former Vice President and 2020 hopeful joe biden writing oped in New York Times calling for a renewal of the ban of socalled assault weapons, banning assault weapons worked thats why as president i will push to ban them again, i fought hard to expand and republicans who allow the laws to expire asserted that they were in effective but almost 15 years after the bans expired with unfortunate benefit of hindsight, we know now that they did make a difference, the weapons highcapacity magazines work, if im elected president we will pass them again and this time we will make them stronger, congressman, your reaction to that, Vice President biden is saying this but is this really on deck something for congress to tackle . Well, im speaking to you from dayton, ohio, so really the whole region still reeling from the, you know, horrible events here, really thankful for the tremendous amount of support weve received from all over the country and when you look at the solving problems you want to make sure that you do cause and effect so people structure the logical fallacies and say this is what caused it, thats what caused it, the shooter is what caused it, we need to focus on what is the root cause thats changing in shooters, the Assault Rifle ban, if you looked at murders in the u. S. , the longterm mean is 13,000, murders are trending down over the long term, but Mass Shootings are going up, on average its about 300 murdered by rifles per year, so truly if you we wanted to reduce murders by firearm in a year, you would you would look at handguns which are twothirds of the problem, so when you look at trying to solve this, you know, the data just doesnt show that this is whats the issue, but, yeah, people say these things have a great capacity to inflict more more harm, more casualties faster, but it really isnt being done, thankfully with all the the Assault Rifles as theyre defined all over the country, theyre mostly sitting in gun safes causing no harms to anyone and used actively by enthusiasts. Dagen would you get behind, i will say strengthen background checks because, again, unlicensed firearm sellers say gun shows and online there arent backgrounds in some cases performed with those sales, would you get behind basically requiring background checks for any sale of weapon in the u. S. Say for like an exchange between relatives . I dont think you talk about hypotheticals but i dont think ive seen language that i can support, one, lets be clear, background checks are required including for online sales, if you buy from online vender the firearm has to be shipped to firearms holder and has to do background check to transfer the firearm, when you look at this would really get after would be private sales, if you want to sell your car, well, you cant sell it, you have to go to a deal the other sell it. I get there are different things, it really is a tremendous change in scope of the law and most people agree that the only way to truly make that effective is to have a firearm registrations protocol, some people support that, most most Second Amendment supporters do not. Dagen congressman, good to see you, congressman warren davidson, take care. I would eat both of those things. Dagen who did a better job, you want to call out somebody in terms of being able to connect with the people . Thats a big question, the soap box thing is you have to do it, i thought joe biden did well with the crowd and i also think senator booker did well as well. Liberty, liberty, liberty, liberty dagen welcome back, oil under pressure down again morning below 54 a barrel, prices moving lower in midst of trade dispute our trade dispute with china not only the u. S. But really worldwide, the International Energy agency last week lowering forecast for Global Oil Demand for the third time in four months, joining us the Oil Price InformationService Energy and global head, tom, good to see you. Good morning. Dagen what is going on with oil right now demand versus supply and what about the direction of this . Well, demand versus supply is a little bit of a head fake, we are definitely seeing Global Demand exceed Global Supply and will probably see that in the next few months or, so the problem is that the Trading Community recognizes that in 2020 that gets reversed and we have more supply than we have demand and you throw in the downdrafts, almost like wing sheer from trade war and so forth and you do have revisions in downward demand growth for mostly emerging countries, so we thought that prices were going to be close to 70 right now, we are about 12 short of that and it doesnt look as though the Investment Community which really accounts for movement in crude oil, it does not look as they will be seduced into buying something might go to 70 but then go to 60. Tom, what does that mean for Domestic Production that we have because you say its stalled, is that temporary or permanent because im thinking about our own economy which is dependent upon jobs that are created in Domestic Production . I think its temporary, we are going to see u. S. Production probably surpassed 15 millionbarrels, it was 5, 5. 5 in 2011, 2012, spring. We can fall a little bit more and companies can make money if they dont have a lot of debt, if youre chevron and exxon in Permian Basin youre okay, if youre somebody thats mortgage a lot to drill youre probably not okay, we are right there at the line if we dip another 5 or 6, it will definitely slowdown. What impact does i know you have various pipelines put online to sort of increase United StatesOil Production with this sort of downward pressure on oil prices, what impact does it have on explorations . Well, they are building pipelines and come online and come online the last 100 days of the year and bring crude oil from new mexico and west texas to houston and to Corpus Christi for exports, now, the problem is who is your major export customer, china, if china cuts deal with iran, you know, i dont think the United States is going to be looking to intercept vessels leaving from iran to china. Its going to be quite an offer to drive here. The president has itchy twitter finger when it comes to oil prices, he tweets if prices go lower, doesnt appear that he has an itchy trigger to start something in the gulf. Dagen speaking of that region, saudi is buying 20 in india Reliant Energy business, one of the companys Largest Overseas acquisitions ahead of planned ipo, tom, your take on this . I think they will be buying a lot of assets internationally, i think they probably would have pulled the trigger on u. S. Asset, u. S. Refinery if not for the mbs tragedy and all the bad publicity, bad publicity that they got from the royal family there. Dagen the murderer of the journalist. They want to have a customer for all the crude because the saudis have another 2, 3 millionbarrels in their pocket, they can start in an instant beyond if they start using some of the new technology and really pumping more oil and if oil demand would rise, they want to buy more u. S. Refineries, more foreign refineries, the refiney that you mentioned, they have thousands and thousands of people working on it and it is the biggest refinery in the world. So real quick, gasoline prices, u. S. , where do you see them in a couple of months in the summer . Trending lower, i think not going much higher unless we have a hurricane that can always screw things up but probably really low. If i. Gaming sort of president ial politics for the next 18 months or so, i would say the gas prices will not be an issue in the 2020 campaign, if anything it might be oil prices are a little bit too low, gas prices very, very modest but its probably not going to be a point of contention. Top story this half hour, death of Jeffrey Epstein, attorney general barr appalled over the weekend, barr ordering investigation saying serious questions must be answered, joining me now fox news senior judicial analyst judge andrew napolitano, again, judge, where do you even start about this shocking, again, the New York Post put suicide in quotation marks, left unattended by shortstaff jailers, no camera in cell, thats your headline. Its almost inconceivable that the federal bureau of prisons would not have very inexpensive cameras in software that hospitals have which allow them to focus on patients and as soon as the patient attempts to leave the bed an alarm goes off, doesnt require a pair of human ie eyes, did federal of bureau of prison had it and why wasnt it on. How could anybody possibly look the other way . And to what extent did people look the other way, might that be act of criminal negligent homicide, allowing the materials with which to kill himself and looking the other way, all of this has got to be determined by the fbi investigation and determined soon. Dagen after Suicide Attempt in july, he was only on suicide watch for 6 days. The bureau of prisons claimed over the weekend that they secured the permission of the doj, i dont know if that means main justice in washington or jeff berman who is the u. S. Attorney in new york whose team sought and obtained the indictment of jeff epstein to remove him from suicide watch, whoever consented to the removal of suicide watch or didnt do anything about that removal has a lot of answering to do to the attorney general himself. So i dont know where this goes, look, this is a criminal case as we know, obviously hes dead, he cant be prosecuted but if you read the indictment, it is also a conspiracy case with other con per or thes, conspirators known to grand jury but not named here, who are they . Is the government going to go after them . There are real serious profoundly injured victims here that the government seeks to readdress, you cant drop the case. Dagen and indicated that they are not planning to drop it after appalling plea deal when epstein was in jail for very short period of time and was on work release for 6 days a week, 12 hours a day. Right. Dagen the head of the Labor Department in the trump moneys having to resign over him being basically helping shepherd the plea deal in south florida. Thats about a sweetheart deal as ive ever seen in my entire career of looking at and being involved in things like, it was very unorthodox, it was crafted in secret, it was crafted with federal prosecutors, at the time served in a very curby State Facility where he basically only slept there and had freedom to go as he saw fit 6 of the 7 days a week, very interesting, though, because his lawyers were going to argue that the crimes for which he was indicted here in new york he had already pleaded guilty to in florida and got sweetheart deal and he couldnt be charged again, that, of course, now moot because hes dead. What the jeff epstein case, what it sort of speaks to system, as a judge how do we fix imbalance if you are rich and guilty you are better off than being poor and innocent . Terrible the deal that he got and why it wasnt exposed until two years until alexander acostas term, why this wasnt aggressive pursued and investigated at the time it happened, you know when the government and the defendant agree on something, nobody is going to appeal, no judge is going to look at, the trial judge should not have accepted it unless, unless there was such defects in the case, unless the ladies were such horrible witnesses that this was the only piece of him, so to speak that the government could get and thats the government that mrs. Acosta attempted to make in final press conference. Dagen i wanted to point out that the fact that Jeffrey Epstein winds up dead in a jail cell the day after these this lawsuit was unsealed, the secret documents were unsealed naming a whole lot of names, more names, so the timing of it and the fact that he was rich and had a lot of very rich and powerful friends, the wall street journal says, the death by apparent suicide of a politicallyconnected could not have been scripted better to undermine trust in Law Enforcement and the prison and legal thats richards point, its extremely well taken, i dont know dagen on the right end and the left and will basically bring the bear a host of theories that will last until end of time. Everything from people who are well known involved and didnt want their names to come out, the guy was agent, so many conspiracy theories that you can write a book about it. The person i want to hear from is dr. Michael, superb pathologist, they have very interesting information. Dagen initial autopsy done and the chief, medical examiner i believe said that they needed more information before they could render a judgment. Probably tissues had to be taken and you cant rush them and they need those results to come in. This is tip of terrible iceberg, this makes it worse. No justice here, whatever the outcome. Dagen we want justice for the victims. Correct, correct. Dagen judge, good to see you, just when you think youve seen it all. Its mindbogglingly. Dagen judge napolitano, thank you so much, coming up the Housing Market boom and not in the areas that you might expect, states seeing jumps straight ahead, big tech in focus, lawmakers work to go readdress the downside of Silicon Valley, stay with us fun fact 1 in 4 of us millennials have debt we might die with. Nice to see you, some of the places may not be place that is you want to live but there are deals to be found out there. [laughter] dagen be careful, jackie. [laughter] dagen every town, every city in this country has fine people and lovely in its own way. This is where you can find some deals, south bend, indiana, youngstown, ohio, this is the headline under the data that we are seeing, the job market is strong, wage growth is strong, Mortgage Rate it is lowest weve seen in 3 years and they were pretty low even before that, so youve got a booming economy thats starting to really support the heartland and that, i think, is whats really important here, the figures overall in terms of housing are skewed, overall home sales are down 4 because youve got the cities like new york and San Francisco where prices went up really fast and inventories were shrinking, the numbers dont exactly make sense but the theme here most people are feeling they can get a bang for their buck and Home Ownership is actually possible for them, now, experts are saying that some of the smaller markets that i mentioned never actually recovered after the housing crisis so this is their time and this is how long it actually took to get that recovery to happen, the question, of course, is can the smaller towns sort of lift up the overall data across the country, probably not, but its important to separate the pieces out and i will add one more thing thats really interesting, millennials who complain about a lot have complained that they cant own homes and theyve shifted to go to some of the cities because they find that they get more for their money and can achieve the American Dream versus living in major city and trying to do it. Dagen mitch, what do you think of this . I love it, these are people who maybe dont need to be in a major city because of their job, who can choose to live in fantastic towns. [laughter] driving through the interesting affordability is Biggest Issue on Housing Market and on top of that theres lack of supply of homes to buy, these must be place that is have a supply, homes are affordable and given the income levels in that market they can find things that work for them. Not only inventory levels strong but they are even building there. A lot of millennials are going to north carolina, i was down there and building up and building up, so their pockets in parts of the country that are experiencing a boom that you wouldnt see if you lived in major city. Millennials arent buying homes, is that completely false . Its starting to change. It is false and also comes from the big city where is the news rooms are where they have a very skewed view of whats going on in the rest of the country. I think one of the problems that millennials have, the reason that we are not buying at fast rate, we cant qualify for mortgages because our debt to income ratio is out of whack, the report talks about how millennials accessing capital to buy homes . It doesnt discuss that, its a separate study that i was looking at but what millennials are finding cost of living goes down if they go to cities they can actually afford it, you all know how hard it is to have the Student Loan Debt to be just out of school, to not be getting the salary and try to make ends meet and add Home Ownership on top of that, but Interest Rates are low and thats the other piece of the story, right, some people are complaining, maybe they are too low, but at the same time it does give home buyers that kind of little of advantage and youre not seeing the prices go up as fast as you would think. And the problem is in our neck of the woods, nothing in the market to buy, its not going to do anything, the rate could be another percent low, but homes being built in carolinas, people will jump. Property taxes in places where these are if you can do tax writeoff, you will do it and places around here you right. With the salt deduction there were areas that havent seen sales increase, theyre not as popular anymore. Dagen causing horrible infrastructure problems in places across the carolinas, for example, even in virginia, thank you, jackie. Sure. Dagen great conversation, coming up big tech in focus, lawmakers looking to readdress the sound side of Silicon Valley and dominance in the tech sector. At comcast, we didnt build the nations largest gigspeed network just to make businesses run faster. We built it to help them go beyond. Because beyond risk. Welcome to the neighborhood, guys. Every day, comcast business is helping businesses go beyond the expected, to do the extraordinary. Take your business beyond. Dagen welcome back, tarpghting big technology, California Lawmakers considering a bill that could reshape Companies Across tech sector, joining us life wire. Com, good to see you as always. Whats going on in cally . They are trying to pass i think its Call Assembly bill 5 is one of them which is going reshape how they can address the economy and decide whether or not people working for these companies are either assigned as contractors and fulltime employees, big difference for all uber employees and lyft employees and sudden assigned as fulltime employees, much more expensive for the companies, you know, its kind of an interesting division with all of the regulation that other companies in Silicon Valley are potentially facing with the way they do things. California has the bill that really addresses all of the privacy, you know, facial recognition and what kind of data is private, thats already happening, you know, one of the things that i was reading about and very true and other people said to me, what happens in california does spread across the u. S. And across all the other companies that deal directly with customers because its such a big state with so many people, so influential, but its also strange because california is the home of Silicon Valley, its the home to all of these Major Companies that are building this tremendous economy there, but also kind of breaking, thats disparity between people have and have nots, targeting the engine inside california with whats strict regulation and impact how they run business if the bill is passed. Do lawmakers really understand what happens when you target a specific industry thats in your backyard, they can pick up and move to lets say austin, texas but also has Technology Industry where theres a plethora of employees, we will pick up and leave . Yeah, thats obvious, there are Technology Hubs all around the country, most of these companies by the way have other locations, google is in bolder, colorado, wherever you travel you will find them, you know, these companies problems travel with them, everybody is take a hard look at technology right now and trying to decide whether or not theres too much reach. Do we know Like Companies like facebook are georgia up or preparing for regulations, its not going they can outrun it. Regulations will be at National Level at some point. If not interNational Level. Certainly, europe, the European Union leads the way on on going after these companies and regulating them and in a way they have as much influence over what happens to these companies as what happens in california. The question right, how do we balance these two things, will the California Law impact how other lawmakers in other states and how Congress SeesTech Companies, there seems to be encouragement among all legislative sectors to regulate tech in somehow some way . Because of tremendous power they hold. The companies are influential, they are powerful, they are apart of everyones lives, part of the economy, part of personal lives, they hold so much of our data, i dont hear a lot of Tech Companies saying that they feel that regulation would be the wrong thing anymore, theyre not fighting it, they are preparing for it but also most of the big companies, the ones that we think, googles, facebooks, amazons, they have the money to handle this, they will do the adjustment and be just fine. You have seen democrat contenders do do you think most poised to be a real threat to President Trump. I dont care what polls jay on joe biden not abling to stand up to trt trump weak on china, if Democratic Party thinks joe biden is mano a mano with donald trump they have got another thing coming he will run tables on biden other Kamala HarrisElizabeth Warren i havent seen it yet i havent it on that stage i havent seen in iowa where i think taking a very unsophisticated approach to china, the democrats want to defeat donald trump that is her fee of, to defeat donald trump youve got to defeat him to have youest i have seen in lifetime tougher than Rancho Cucamonga to have you bring tough than Ronald Reagan joe biden cant hit changeups, dagen former a regular chief white house political advisory ed rollins you are watching people this candidates in iowa over the weekend. Bind with gaffes. Nightmares watching state fair in iraway you are forced to say god awful i should not say god awful food donate make you food on a stick. I think a long ways to go, biggest problem democrats have front runners is not good candidate as they think he is or he thinks he is made a few stumbles probably will make more as he goes along he got away with Vice President he wont get away with trump. Equalling as important four or five on that stage basically have the ability to go beyond just stages to raise money they will be able to go none of this matters until you get to New Hampshire iowa i watched a lot of front runners crash precinct quick to a certain extent no disrespect to steve bannon i have a lot of respect for not like are getting bloomberg guys in there make them viable hillary is not viable bloomberg not viable, certainly mrs. Obama is smart enough to realize after 8 years in white house who wants to go back again my sense is it is one this field complicated delegate process democrats dont have winner take all youve got to win 15 delegates in a state to get delegates at all, so it is a long, hard way to go, the secret delegates obviously, put hillary over top last time dont get in play until second ballot if you end up with four or five candidates staying in this race not predicting but if you do have foufh fore or five accounts you go into consequence could two to second ballot changes dynamics. I tend to agree i had a chance to sit down with three candidates mill miami forum last no one des moines, iowa, interviewed castro, booker what i saw from that young voters all three candidates energized voters i think millennial voters will be critical to any type of Democratic Coalition so i think you have to rebuild Obama Coalition known there will be more and more young people part of this process than they were in 2016, and 2012. Dagen meantime ed an article in the wall street journal talk millennials sr. , voters some wavering on trump figure to shape 2020 allocation Fastest Growing are seniors. Very strong part not going to move away from trump there may be peel unhappy sometimes tweet here or there he overly the job he has done 94 approval among republicans means no challenge certainly kinds of people talking about running against him wont do well wont i dont think will make the race speaking about the tweetstorm over weekend if every weekend, because, again, they you got to fill the time between when you get out of bed and go to golf course i guess. Let me just say this. Dagen please. Trump is an acquired taste like scotch, you like scotch tape or dont like scotch tape once you like scotch tape you drink skost rest of your life a man drank about 400 barrel of scotch my live Trump Supporters are not moving away, 46, 47 vote pretty much all the way through vote will be intense, you find same Playing Field same 30 states plus, Second District of main playing feel so you got to hold the big four two of them are gone never going to win california never winning new york florida ab texas are critical you got to get pennsylvania michigan those states again not 50 state campaign probably 80 or nine state campaign 8 or nine state a campaign. Not fast enough. Fair. How do the president s sort of articulate a message when we saw in 2018 election Prescription Drugs a top issue was movement hhs but as far as big move on Prescription Drug medicare Social Security we have not seen how does he go to voters if in deep thought say i need you to come one more time on top of twooefrths else. He i disagree with steve a little bit china not big debate unless war, health care is a big zaeb net side has formula as you recall better than neighbor, one vote margin nancy pelosi health care last time i think everybody is going to have their plane i promise you though medicare for all is democrat plan that is pretty easy to move a lot of seniors off wont be as good a system if everybody getting it. I want your reaction to this is Vice President joe biden newsworthy moment, as there has been all about gaffes there are questions whether they hold him back should he go oneonone with President Trump this weekend biden accidental said i was Vice President during 2018 parkland, Florida High School shooting listen to this. I watched what happened to kids from parkland came up to see me when i was Vice President , some of you covered it, you are watched what happened when they went from halls of congress, congress cowering not want to go see them did not want to have to face it on camera. Reaction . Is to i think it is sad to see a moment like that actually i dont think the gaffes are going to be bidens problem hold him back i think bidens problem he is not exciting candidate i think this years he is very, very similar to me to jeb bush 2015 frontrunner not exciting to anyone more you watch him more bored you are getting i think that is his big problem, i also think Elizabeth Warren is a very good candidate right now running a Great Campaign but she reminds me of ted cruz a taste for certain kinds of people i dont think widespread appeal i think she is going off to a ceiling my question is who is the candidate that is going to be that captures hearts and minds of people get the really everybody excited about now, trump was really polarizing at this point in the game back looking at iowa then remember there with helicopter taking kids on rides, iowa state fair everybody like this is never going to a lot of who is this clown right . Then look where we are right now i think anything can happen weve got to look for a candidate that is going to surprise us going to delight us, going to come up some kind of signature policies make us think differently than we have before, and right now health care is something to your point very, very important, to American People no one is talking about it in a way that is getting people really excited, outside of maybe Bernie Sanders medicare for all talking about it but in a way that doesnt appeal to everybody because they worry it is not action nl, sounds great on paper. Mi dont know if the taking away Health Insurance of 180 Million People i dont to me not actionable. Buttigieg plan or biden plan lets look what obamacare figure out how to bring cost curve where most er americans are. In a way that we want it got you Elizabeth Warren waving hand saying i am in favor of taking away final insurance. You get final word. Talking about taking away final insurance going to lose issues democrats have a lot of programs costing a lot of money trilliondollar shortfall of the year even though everybody not excited about deficit young people get exited mr. Devastate when 30 trillion Dollars Money they have to pay the key who can put together obama o coalition basically put two successful campaigns together, brilliant campaigns winning formula if you dont do that you are not going to win. Said he repeatedly more than a third did not come out black he more than half people of color black latino ethnicities in the United States you get voters out you win quite frankly good to see you. Doesnt look like were getting release in terms of trade tensions and fight between United States, and china what is going to drive markets this week if we get good news say on retail sales, good nice like very tame Consumer Price index will that help give markets a lift . I dont think it will help that much what is happening here this happens once in a while, big global mack proissues, themes china trade sanctions brexit, like federal reserve, inverted yield curve tend to dominate the market any you know little readings in between when are error ppi just dominated by larger Financial Market themes macrotheme are asserting itself what you have to do here is kind of you know, prepare for a really volatile continued market look forwards safe haven assets to manager your portfolio. Good morning Mitch Roschelle one about macroout currency rising another expense of global currencies i am curious to get your take how that can disrupt the Global Markets maybe balance of trade wars aside . It is interesting what people have to remember though even though the fed, is cutting rates bond yields clearly falling in United States also falling around the world the dollar is a safe haven currency in times of market stress which is now, people tend to investors tend to flock to safe haven assets bonds u. S. Dollar gold, japanese yen so you are seeing that were not getting away from that strong dollar even if the administration would like us to, because, strongest economy in the world still people have a flight to quality for assets the dollar is going to be strong even though yields are lower. Dagen one thing i am trying to amelia have tried to illustrate, for the viewer is that when you have bond yields plummeting the way they have been, and with the steep slide last week, now granted the 10year yield is not the record low 1. 3 but if you have this happen and you have mitch discussed 350 trillion dollars Government Debt around world negative yield do we really even know what this does to the Global Economy again, it really turns the world financially upside down where, in essence you have to pay to lend an intent money. Umhmm. It is very troubling, i think what was the most troubling last week about movement in bond yield the speed sharpness at which lower rates came it was pretty unexpected when it came and again today the provide that further to he below 1. 7 we have to watch the speed of the move, it does come back and forth it matters the duration the time line that we stay under you know we havent reached 1. 3 yet were we nearing 1. 3 i think would you see even more as you point out dislotion global Financial Markets we are aaways away from there doesnt mean we cant get there doesnt mean continue to get there quickly the bond yields move quick one tweet away from managers perhaps for bad china news from that happening you need to could into safe haven assets doesnt have to be majority just a hedge Global Market dislocation is here going to continue october 31 brexit deadline made no progress so far, into that deadline that is a huge risk for markets even about sooner september 1 tariffs from administration are going to be completed implemented on china hit markets as well. Before earnings 355 fedex cup points under 300,000 dollars maria sat down with the legend to discuss the big business of golf, his relationship with tiger woods, and how he prepares for big tournaments, they started with explanation of what fedex couple playoff mean for the golf season moving forward. People dont think of golf think of playoffs, comes had 43 events really season your season determined by three events critical points people plan for the big pot of gold at the end in atlanta, you know were going into three webbing stretch obviously, this week Northern Trust important i see a three week government tournament. You need to reassess the major tournaments versus just any, any event tell me how you see the difference. I had a very consistent season played well pretty much every week the margins a little disappointing i tried to treat kick any other event i tried to treat the same they are not there is a bigger spotlight on tournament there is a little more pressure, there is it is courses set up a little differently so i i try to treat it like i would any other event but i didnt i just didnt get the balance quite right i have had success in majors before the balance between intensity and a relaxed focus i guess i didnt do quite good job this year have to try to do better. I can understand the analysis you want to be relaxed like this is what i do dont have more pressure more important than anything else you see crowds remember the prize then you he remember all the lights are on, the cameras are rolling, and that may be gets into your head. I mean it is a little bit, i think that contrast between trying to treat like any other week and then you know trying to kid yourself that it is something that is not so thaigs was my thing i need to treat these events for what they are when are huge golf tournaments mean a great deal. How has golf changed there is technology, there is a broader acceptance from a broader number of people tell me what goes into that in terms of the change how it evolved from your standpoint. Hopefully since even since i started to play, you know i would like to think golf has become more inclusive whether that be younger people getting into the game, it is a you know, more accessible you dont have to hopefully dont have to earn a lot of money to be able to play the game i come from part of the world where we have a lot of public golf courses golf is just as accessible as any other sport the big business, people realize the Technology Everything that goes on around the game, everything just become that a little bit bigger, think with social media with the inclusion that brings more people want to be involved. You said business it sure is a big business all this endorsement opportunity, how do you decide tell me what the brands of rory mcilroy really is. Yes, i think when i think of my brand i obviously, want to be as authentic for myself as possible i dont want to create this brand that isnt really me, right . You know we have seen that done in the past people tried to you know put forward the image that isnt maybe quite them i have always tried i want to be me. Based on audience levels what you are seeing in terms of the interesting golf, how would you characterize that i mean that is sort of an indication of the economy an indication of the popularity of golf what can you tell us. You the so is different because you look at some of the other major sports in this country football, basketball, you know i feel like golf is is the only sport where you know justice as many people play golf as they do watch it not a lot of people play football they love watching it on sunday dont play it i think we have a wonderful opportunity that people to watch our game also play interested in how do we do things interested in how they can improve their games. Tiger woods a hero of yours growing up how does it feel tiger back you are playing in same championships. I feel very fortunate that you know some people say you dont really want to meet heroes i met tiger a long time ago we have become pretty good friends nothing could be further from truth he has been awesome with me i have a relationship with him so happy to see what he did earlier in the year i dont think people truly realize what he had to go through to get back to the stage, and you know i think everyone involved with golf realizes if we look at this as a business tiger woods is massive for our game. Who do you see what do you see as big competition in this tournament . So i think going forward, a little bit number one player in the world we played final round memphis couple weeks ago he be the me there, and he had nuvenl run of golf over the last couple years, on four major championships. Golf is mental as much as physical. More mental than physical would i say there is so much a lot of different sports that are reactionary you dont have a lot of time to think it is it is very instinctual we try to make golf as instinctual as possible at the same time so much time for things to get into your head that is difference between golf and probably other sports. Interesting piece in axios talking about the sort of rural city divide, that while cities are booming, rural areas are really suffering with job losses, falling populations, rising suicide rates, Opioid Crisis and how donald trump tapped into this in 2016. The question now is, can he retap into it in 2020 after four years of leading and it not Getting Better for rural americans. Dagen and what will democrats say and do in terms of their campaigning to reconnect with them potentially . Good point. I think we saw Elizabeth Warren, she talked to a rural farmer, i dont think all your plans are going to work but i want to hear more. I think there is appetite among rural voters, at least were looking at our options right now. Dagen i watched that video. It was like it was kind of awkward. I didnt know where it was going. The conversation was important, though. Part of the conversation with rural americans is very important. Dagen her accent got thicker because shes from oklahoma originally. The oklahoma accent came back in full force. I think shes running an amazing campaign, Elizabeth Warren. What im focused on right now is how the democrats are framing their view of the economy, and Elizabeth Warren has really been talking about how the economy seems to be working for the wealthy and big companies, and not for the average american. We are not seeing that play out in Consumer Confidence. I think consumers are feeling really good. But as we are seeing trade tensions escalate with china, as we are seeing this markets be more and more volatile, how are people going to feel and is this going to be something that can pay off and the democrat candidates can pay off. And how do people feel about it when it feels a little like the democrats are rooting against the american economy, and thats when you see like bill maher over the weekend again doubling down on his comments about how he hopes for a recession because he thinks we will recover from a recession but not from donald trump as president. We have some really Dangerous Things out there playing out in the economy and the candidates. Speaking of the economy, retail sales, we have earnings from retailers this week, we have cpi, so im very curious to see how those numbers shake out and whether or not it reinforces the point that the Consumer Sentiment in our economy is very strong. We also have americans saving. If theyre saving, that really tells me this economy is fundamentally strong and we will see how the markets respond to that. Dagen because again, the markets are forward looking and if investors are looking ahead down the road, what did they see that isnt showing up in the numbers right now. I think its things that are going on around the world that theyre seeing that arent happening here yet. If we get another good print across a lot of those numbers, that suggests our economy is somewhat impervious to whats going on around the world. Dagen democrats need to be careful, not bill maher, the ones running for the nomination, that they dont look like theyre rooting for america to have a downturn . Thats very dangerous. Very very dangerous. I think they walk a very very fine line between trying to point out what theyre seeing versus sounding like theyre rooting against the economy. I think Elizabeth Warren is walking a tightrope on her messaging in particular. Other candidates are as well. I watch her very very closely because it feels a little bit i think its about the framing. Its how democrats frame it up. If you are talking about reform, talk about how it frames up against the bank bailout. You bailed out the banks, time to bail out the American People. Dagen millenials are just looking at the student loan situation. Thank you all. Right now, varney company. David asman is in for stuart. David thank you very much. I am david asman. Stuart is off today. He will be back tomorrow. Heres the big story. Its shaping up to be another wild week on wall street. Stocks are going to be down when the market opens in 30 minutes. We are looking at a triple digit loss for the dow, although thats come down in futures a little bit. The s p and nasdaq are also looking at significant losses. Trade tensions, of course, once again driving the market and Goldman Sachs says the trade war is having a greater impact on the economy than expected. Raising the risk of a recession before the 2020 election. Remember, President Trump says hes not ready to make a deal with
