Cbs and pbs charlie rose follows a surge of Sexual Harassment allegations burying the anchor. Cbs president david rhodes explaining the firing and saying in part this followed the revelation yesterday of extremely disturbing and intolerable bare. Now, charlie made unwanting sexual advancements including lewd phone calls and Walking Around naked and groping their private parts. But one of the victims says she complained of the inappropriate behavior to his long time executive producer, but it fell on deaf ears saying the producer commented at the time thats just charlie being charlie. Rose explains the allegations in a statement saying he thought the feelings were mutual with these women saying immigrately embarrassed i have behaved insensitively at times, and i accept responsibility for that, though, i do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate. He doesnt get a pass because i cant stop thinking about the anguish of these women, what happened to their dignity, what happened to their bodies, what happened to maybe even their careers. Now since the Harvey Weinstein Sexual Abuse Scandal opened a month ago, nearly three dozen women have stepped forward with accusations involving a range of men including kevin spacey, al franken, and msnbc mark hall ford. What do you think . Its just incredible. The only thing shocking at this point is how not shocking the flood of allegations of Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault have become. This is truly a tragedy that were dealing with right now. And with the allegations that came out about john conures in everything thats happened with him, thats 27,000 of taxpayer money that was used in the settlement with a nondisclosure agreement. The American People deserve to know about this, and its shocking to know that 17 million was spent over the last 20 years. Were just now hearing about it. More voices need to come out. Liz and theres more money spent on the legal fees involving these congressional allegations too. Theres lawyers that have to be paid as well to deal with this. See, now, heres the thing, elizabeth. Well, i think that there was a good difference here with cbs this morning in that those women came out and really forcefully and sternly spoke out against charlie roses behavior. But it was trending, and they were getting the applause and the accolades for speaking out about something that you all just mentioned. Rumors have been circulating about for a while. Why were they getting the accolades when really the women who should be getting the praise are the eight women that came forward with the allegations. And for the other women who brought this to light about the names that you just mentioned. And heres another thing. When you have some dirty laundry yourself, you probably shouldnt be tweeting about republicans and putting things about twitter because a lot of those receipts were coming out with the allegations you just mentioned. Liz back to that explosive bombshell about that powerful democrat representative john conures admits to settling a wrongful dismissal complaint in 2015 after allegedly sexual harassing a staffer. Now, this unnamed woman alleged that john conures fired her font accepting his sexual advances, which led to her more than 27,000 settlement taxpayer money used there. Conures admitting to the settlement but denying the allegations saying it was a severance payment. The charges also including women flown in plane to wherever conures was using congressional resources. House majority leader nancy pelosi calling for an ethicals will take that up into the allegations of john conures. If true, what do you think of taxpayers footing the bill here for, again, Sexual Harassment in congress . Its absolutely appalling and appalling that we would be using taxpayer money to fly in women want to sitting congressman. And i think theres really a double standard at play here because on capital hill, its almost a wait and see. Well investigate it, even though with al franken, you have photographic evidence. He admitted to it. Theres nothing else you need to investigate. But in the public industry in media and hollywood, people are be fired. Charlie rose was fired within 24 hours. Liz yeah. But one point i want to make. I think theres a good distinction we need to make here. Every man thats accused, i dont think its fair to paint them as a Harvey Weinstein. You mention the glenn allegation. Im no fan of the New York Times, but i think theres a big difference between what he was accused of making passes at women in a public bar and what charlie rose and mark halpern were accused of, which is using their power in private setting in closed offices and private residences supposing themselves in all manner. I think theres a difference here, and we to weigh the allegations. Liz thats a very good point. Just housekeeping. The reports indicate that the 27,000 came out of the budget for john conyers office. We still dont know if it was johns personal money or taxpayer money that went into his office. I think thats a decision for al franken and the people of the state of minnesota. My understanding is that al is a very popular senator. People in minnesota think that he is doing a good job, and his political future will rest with the people of minnesota. Liz what is it for Big Bank Ceos facing these allegations. Senator Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders calling for their resignations now. Oh, you know it. They would be the loudest voices in the room. And when i hear that statement from Bernie Sanders talking about how popular al franken is in minnesota, it just sounds like a high school setting. Like the popular kids get to decide whats right and wrong. No. The American People get to decide that. And for Elizabeth Warren, there is evidence. I believe in the due process as well in really vetting things out. We shouldnt in this digital age just immediately go with pitchforks. But there was photographic proof with al franken. And i think what levar is doing right now is being a horrible, horrible role model for kids across this country. The fact that he downplayed even what his son did. His son stole items from multiple stores, faced ten years in prison, and levar balances quote was it aint that big of deal. And now says the person who helped you get out of that trouble doesnt need to be thanked, oh, unless he gives you a ride on air force one or invites you to the white house, then you can thank him. But getting you out of the trouble youre in, you dont need to be thanked. And, look, i still criticize the ucla program itself as setting a bad example. The fact that these three players are still there at school and potentially could be playing in a matter of weeks for the team, they should all have been kicked off the team to begin with. Otto had a shaved head, he had a feeding tube coming out of his nose, he was staring blankly into space jerking violent. He was blind, he was deaf. No mother, no parent should ever have gone through what we went through. Liz do you think levar balance understands the gravity and the severity of what his son faced possible prison time in china . Clearly, clearly he does not. And when you look at the Otto Warmbier situation, you know, the Obama Administration tried for i believe 18 months to get him home very unsuccessfully. President trump very soon after taking office was able to secure his release, get him back to the United States, and Fred Warmbier did thank President Trump and said that it was very much him that got him back. The title of the book is your kids are your own fault. You taught them how to behave, and you didnt hold them accountable. What happens to the child . What is your concern . Well, thats a really slippery slope that when you say stealing is not that bad because nobody personally got hurt. Now, the plan was similar to how russia grabbed Natural Gas Energy assets in Eastern Europe basically establishing itself as a world power. The informant is set to testify. His attorneys this morning saying the thousands of documents show that the Obama Administration had prior knowledge of what russia was up to way before that uranium one deal, basically, the company sold to russia. The first issue was the pervasive corruption within the russian uranium industry. And trust me, that so many its only one industry. This whole thing is way more complicated than the media is allowing it to be seen as because russia was selling us uranium reprocessed from Nuclear Warheads that they tossed away as a result of strategic arm treaties, so they were a big supplier of uranium for a long time, and i think they still are the main supplier for u. S. Nuclear energy plants. So that doesnt sound like a person trying to corner the market. On the other hand, it is a extremely questionable why they did the deal why the u. S. Did the deal at all. The uranium is theres plenty of uranium all around the world. Every continent, theres uranium. But why did we need to do this deal at all in the first place . It was not done in secret, by the way. It was are well publicized at the time. But why we need to do it at all. Liz yeah, i hear you. Nobody knew the extent of it, though. Didnt know the extent well, i think we knew the extent of it, but i dont think what we knew is that the people doing it had given a very large sum of money to the clinton foundation. That was the very odd part of it. Why is it that people are taking incredible the powerful strategic material from us. Why are they having to bribe the clintons . That doesnt make any sense in any kind of good way. It makes sense in a bad way but not in a good way. Liz yeah, in other words, people connect it to the uranium one believed it contributed 145,000 to the clinton foundation. The clintons say that frank left uranium one before those donations before he made those donations to clintons, but it was made when Hillary Clinton was secretary of state. I think there needs to be more hearings about it because eric trump with Maria Bartiromo saying theres something behind the russians entities, rather individuals connected to this Russian Company making these donations. And, again, this fbi informant, he was paid by the fbi, ben. Hes saying theres a lot more to this story. Russia did want to corner the market on uranium. Lets listen to eric trump. Well, thats are people really naive enough to believe that somebody gave Hillary Clinton; right . A secretary of state at the time 145 million for her foundation for nothing . I mean, do people really believe that . And, to me, its such a travesty that thats not being investigated because there is something there liz to your point, ben, you think this should be investigated. Wheres the coverage on this . Of course it should be investigated. The whole idea of the International Uranium market should be investigated. And you made the key point in your introduction, which is russia has basically cornered the market on natural gas and oil for western europe, which gives them incredible leverage of power over western europe if by some horrible fate they were able to do anything close to that with uranium, that would be a very bad situation. Yeah, so, basically, in 2015, there were asianamerican organizations, a coalition of 64 of them filed a report that harvard holds students to a higher standard in accepting their applicants in terms of other race and ethnicity groups. Liz so whats the next step when you have an allegation like that . I mean, you have the Justice Department probe. Where does it go from here . Yeah. I think the next step is, first of all, for harvard to release the documents that the department of justice is asking for. And sort of force students to recognize whats going on. Students should know that theyre being judged based on their merit, rather than their gender or their race. And i think harvard needs to comply with that. Liz do you think harvard should judge or admit students based on race. No. Definitely not. I think thats a huge danger. I think that Everybody Needs to be judged based on their merit. I especially find it very demeaning to know possibly my application was reduced to simply what my race is, which is something i couldnt control. And i think that Everyone Needs to know that where they got to today is because of the hard work that theyve done in all their merits. Liz so what does harvard say about this . Did they admit theyre looking at race as an admissions factor . Im not entirely sure. I know that they do look at it in terms of diversity. I know that harvard wants a very diverse environment, and i think it becomes a danger when you pursue diversity for the sake of diversity because it divides people more and people sort of start to think either theyre only there because their race and not because their merit.
