What is your take on the cbo scoring in the Obamacare Repeal . Is this now dead in the water . Its hard to see how they get anywhere because you have a couple of republican senators on the left. Collins, murkowski and i guess mccain on the left even though he campaigned for repealing up on the cared and rand paul and ted cruz on the right who are frustrated its only repealing a slice of obamacare. I feel sorry for Mitch Mcconnell. The democrats had complete unity when they had 60 members to cram obamacare down the throats of the country. But now republicans can even get 50 members to vote yes on a very, very timid repeal bill. Trade do anything that can be done or tweets to be made to look at ted cruz is a yes or any other senator . Thats a no. Ted cruz would be the easiest one to get of the ones voting no. The problem is how do you bribe murkowski and collins and mccain will vote no because he doesnt like trump. Whatever amount of money to bribe murkowski and collins is just going to make rand paul and ted cruz another conservatives more upset about the fact that this bill doesnt really reduce the burden of government that obamacare is imposing on the economy. I find it interesting you said you feel bad for Mitch Mcconnell, given the fact that hes the one. Part of this Republican Leadership that i started with health care when really they should have been focusing on stoking the economy coming out with tax cuts or tax reform. Where do you see tax reform, tax cuts going in this legislative agenda . We know if they dont get it done by march it may be hard for real reform that comes undone. Where are we in the process . If they dont get it done by march 2018, there may be issues getting it done at all in 2018. First, let me say that i feel a little bit sorry for mcconnell because after promising seven and half years they would repeal obamacare the moment they got power, hes now in a situation where many of its members not many, but a few of them promised during the campaign they vote to repeal it now wont even vote for a timid repeal of a part of obamacare. Had they gotten that out of the land taxes . In theory this should be the easier thing to achieve and will see later this week when things get rolled out. Once again, you have some of these showboating senators who will, with we dont want to cut taxes for the richer we dont want to increase the deficit or make things per minute. There will be excuses coming out of the you know why because some of these numbers, its like the middle east without peacekeepers. Thats the problem on capitol hill right now on the republican side. Trent is not a unifying figure for them. Without trump is a unit i figure, if like trying to herd cats in the senate. Dagen what do we end up with in terms of health care and Health Insurance . Do we just get more obamacare . Will they throw money at it to fix the problem that ultimately we are on the road to single payer for all. Im afraid we are on the road to bigger and bigger government with uncle sam shoveling more money to the states. Its getting so bad theyll ask for asylum. Heres the thing that really frustrates me about this debate and discussion. The Congressional Budget Office says millions will lose their insurance. No, that is complete not dense. What will happen without the mandate, without the kind of mandate pointing at their head, a lot of americans who say its not worth it. I dont want it. In other words, obamacare frees these people from the burdens that the individual mandate. They dont want to buy another pace crummy government designed insurance package. They are not losing their insurance. They are freed from the mandated penalty of being forced to buy something they dont want. Those of us who have some testable belief in freedom, that should be a good thing. Not Something Like Susan Collins that says this is terrible that people are being forced to do things they dont want to do. I would just add to that, she isnt making a point the fact that there are preexisting productions and medicaid expansion, which many red state senators have taken. Im curious what you think the chances are for the Murray Alexander built to be resurrect it. Obamacare is in a little bit of trouble. I dont think its the death spiral of the right make it out to be the would need revisions to make it work for all americans. I have a hard time seeing how that legislation moves forward because you will have not just rand paul and ted cruz, a lot of people saying shoveling more subsidies at this stage is not a good thing. Why should taxpayers in iowa to subsidize Health Care Consumers in maine and why should taxpayers in maine subsidize health care in iowa . The problem is this politician to think you can have insurance based on the fact you wait until you get sick to get a policy is crazy. You have to figure out a different way to subsidize investors not going to be very effective if you do it out of washington. Thats the problem. Second of all, the president s rhetoric is charged and way up there. I probably wouldnt select those kind of words to use. Listen, for eight years the soothing, calming rhetoric of president obama got us nowhere, what it got to is an advanced nuclearization of Intercontinental Ballistic Missile that is can reach the United States. President trump has decide today take a completely different approach than what president obama did. And i dont think we are one bit close the other war than we were last week, maria, because simply this, the president s main effort is to use a diplomatic approach to put very heavy maximum pressure on the north korean regime, economic pressure. Hes getting countries that are doing business with them to stop doing business and appears to be successful of getting chinas banks to shut down business with north korea. That is significant. No president has ever achieved that accomplishment. So remains to be seen where this goes. What north korea is trying to do, maria, accelerate this program to get it in place before the economic sanctions, and then he believes kim jong un, kim jong un believes this, we calculated during the Obama Administration, that once he has the capability President Trump will accept much more than previous president s pointed at south korea. Thats his strategy. The problem is President Trump is not obama and hes not going to accept that. Thats the position we are in. Maria so does kim jong un not understand the capability of the United States, does he not understand who he is dealing in terms of trump versus obama . Oh, he has. He clearly knows when the United States says the impact on north korea would be devastating, they know what our capability is, yes. Protect itself from one of those attacks, are there things we need to be doing now to protect ourselves from anything that hes considering . Well, certainly, yes. Behind your question, though, what else can we do inside the United States to make certain in our electorate grid and everything tied to it, would be shut down, hospitals, trains, electronic transitions, et cetera, our lives would come to a hult and it would be a catastrophe in terms of human deaths, frankly. We are not doing very well. We dont have a Government Agency that looks at this, we are depending on what private utility companies. We certainly have the technology to be able to harden our capabilities so an emp does not shut down this entire utility grid in the United States. I really think it is news worthy and should be out there in for public domain. I hate to see us restricting the president s tweet. Interesting to see that kim jong un is doing the same thing, watching so closely, seeing what hes saying and responding immediately . Yeah, it is. I think this is going to continue for some time but i am confident that we are absolutely moving in the right direction and its not toward a military option, its towards squeezing north korea economically putting more pressure on it, more pressure than ever been put on and we will see if we get the desired results but we are moving in that direction. Maria if they were a scenario where kim jong un was taken out somehow, do you envision sort of the result being south korea takes over north korea . China obviously has a big role to play in that in terms of how that goes, but thats a great question. Just carry a scenario out. If we are able to put the economic pressure that at least the plan calls for where things start to collapse inside of north korea, thats certainly what the chinese are concerned about but we are on the path to do that, the pressure on the regime would be significant, the leaders, i think, the unity around kim jong un would start to break down. Maria i see. Leaders would start to look for alternative, we have to stop the madness and we have to halt it. That would mean that they would have to take the regime over. I think china would love to have that take place and put a more responsible communist leader in charge of north korea. No i dont see Something Like that happening that would result in south korea taking over north korea, thats not going to happen. That will only happen by way of war. This is an internal change in regime because kim jong un has raised the stakes far too high and devastating his own economic wellbeing in the country. Maria great point. What it says to the senate, we had a false step there just like the democrats have had false step too, maria. Its collapsing and only now say, help us fix it. In my opinion this tax thing may actually benefit from the fact that we have not passed the Health Care Bill yet but we continue to work on it because people are still hurting out there because of obamacare. Maria the house has the bill and the house said we are not going the look at it, we will start from scratch, how come the senate never took the houses bill seriously . Im an outsider, ive only been here years, selfinterest outweighs National Interest. This is the problem that we have in washington. We know that we have a broken system in obamacare. Everybody acknowledges that. People are hurting. 8 Million People were fined by the irs 2 billion by obamacare. Half of those people make less than 25,000 a year. The obamacare have failed the very people they claim to champion. Now we have to move onto tax. Right now we need to become competitive with the rest of the world. We have to get Corporate Tax rate as low as we can. I want 15 honestly. I think we can clean the corporate on deductions. We have to eliminate the repatriation tax. 2 or 3 trillion stuck overseas in u. S. Profits. That money can come back and create jobs. Maria you would vote no because of 10 repatriation tax . No, no. I would vote, yes, maria, completely. This is a yes for me. But we are still working on this. Ill rather not deem anything and not have any tax coming back. This is what they are talking about. Most corporate ceos would support that, but Going Forward it would be zero. Thats the big issue. Thats what it is for 39 countries in the world. Maria do you want this to be revenue neutral or are you giving up on that in. The way cbo scores this, theres no way its revenue neutral. It doesnt matter. What has happened here is that we are obliged to follow cbo scores. I believe that if you invest in early years, discipline in out years, lowering Corporate Tax rate is absolutely positive to our economy and to the tax situation in the federal government. Let me remind you, our federal government has exploded in size too, maria, just since 2000, our federal government 2. 4 trillion to 4 trillion. Maria something has to give, senator. We have time to move onto save this countrys debt crisis and thats what we are working. The reason we want this tax package is to get the economy growing again. Maria i understand. The longterm reason you get the economy growing is the debt crisis as you called on your show. Kevin once theres the profit taken, do you think thats a buying opportunity because we know within the next month they will be reporting own earnings, they have done very well, earnings this season are expected to be up over 12 , should there be a little bit more of a correction, do you think thats time to get back into the leadership and carry the market forward as they have done this whole year . Well, obviously part of the question is what the earnings going to be for everybody else and when there is no growth people dog to those stocks because thats the only place you can find growth. Growth is broadens and the question has to be for the next several qears. Dagen bob, which industries look attractive to you if growth is broadening out even with the selloff . Dagen, i would say that financial stocks, banks in particular, expecting higher rates, little more growth, less regulation, they the big beneficiaries there. Health stocks, similar to Many Technology stocks and selling for much lower prices, thats another place i would put that money if i had some spare cash. Maria bob, there was a Deutsche Bank report that came out last week and i thought interesting every 5 decline in corporate rate is equivalent 5 to 8 earnings upside for the major banks, thats what Deutsche Bank is saying, obviously you want to buy the banks because they will have real impact from any Corporate Tax reform package. Tell me what you see in terms of the tax package. We will get details tomorrow. We pretty much know what we are going to get. 28 passthrough, individual rates of 1225, does it move needle of Economic Growth and we will see growth if this materializes . I think the answer is yes with the big if, there are questions around all the things you talked about. Theres no consensus yet. Sending a plane this morning to try to evacuate a number of guests and some colleagues to bring them back.
