The mother-in-law of Fayetteville State University’s chancellor-elect served on the school’s Board of Trustees until the day before he was elected.
Darrell T. Allison, who is scheduled to become chancellor at FSU on March 15, is facing questions about how he was chosen for the position. Some FSU alumni are opposing his selection.
Brenda Timberlake, who was an FSU trustee and was still listed as one on the school website Wednesday afternoon, was asked during a telephone interview if she is Darrell Allison’s mother-in-law.
“That’s true,” she said.
A university spokesman released a statement responding to questions about Timberlake and her relationship to Allison. The statement said that she resigned from the Board of Trustees on Feb. 17.
