Originally elected as two real estate agents and three farmers (a hop grower and two traditional cash croppers), it seemed a nice balance. The three farmers could keep anything detrimental to South Glengarry’s agricultural community at bay and make sure the increased development craved by those in real estate was somewhat curbed. Perfect, I had thought. My how things change!

The final draft of the tree canopy bylaw all townships in Ontario were required to enact was manageable by most farmers, unlike the one which was passed by North Glengarry. That one is full of restrictions, setbacks, fees, and anything else to stop farms from enlarging their base into treed acreage.
