A farmer was beaten to death yesterday, after he allegedly slaughtered a goat for damaging his crops in Gazipur's Kaliganj upazila.
The deceased was identified as Azizur Rahman (33), an inhabitant of Royen village under the upazila.
The incident took place around 11:30am yesterday, a day after Azizur along with his friends slaughtered the goat, cooked and ate it, as the animal entered and damaged his eggplant field, said AKM Mizanul Haque, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station.
Yesterday morning, as Azizur went to a place near his house, the goat's owner Mostaq Khan and his men beat him up, leaving him critically injured.
