A father of two young boys was gunned down in Statesboro. Now his family pleads for help bringing his killer, or killers to justice. “She said, 'Sherman, Cherry Head been shot,' and I said, 'no not my baby,'” Sherman Lewis said.Lewis is a grieving mother, trying to find out who killed her son, and why. “If he could help you, he would. If he got it, he would give it to you. He would give the shirt off his back to someone because that's how he was raised," Lewis said about her son, John Howard.Howard, 32, was known to his family as Cherry Head. He was raised in a big family and now all of them are pleading for answers.“Say something, because there are people out there who actually saw everything from, beginning to the end. But they won’t say anything,” Lewis said.On Jan. 28, Statesboro Police were called to Blakewood Apartments on East Olliff Street, where they found Howard shot multiple times. Detectives are asking anyone who saw or heard anything to call them. “Ultimately in most homicide cases, people coming forward helps solve the case," said Jared Ankins, captain at Statesboro Police Station. There is an anonymous email address (tips@ statesboroga.gov) for anyone with information, regarding the case. You can also contact Det. James Winskey or Det. Katie Reese at 912-764-9911 if you have any information about this case.“Call the hotline, give them exactly what you know. Tell what happened. Give us closure. It won’t bring my son back. But it will give us peace," Lewis said.
