A picturesque afternoon on the beach almost turned into tragedy for Bernadette Millar when she was suddenly caught in a strong rip.
The mother-of-one said she was only here today because of the people who saved her.
"I'm still traumatised by the ordeal, there's no words that can explain how I felt or what happened," she said.
Ms Millar was swimming at Coolum Beach Cove on Monday evening when trouble struck.
She said the rip formed quickly and her partner's every attempt to save her was in vain.
"My partner was trying his hardest to help me he would have given his last breath doing so," she said.
