As the city of Jackson hits homicide number 81 for 2021, the community came together on the second Sunday of July to march in a citywide prayer march.The day turned emotional for the families and loved ones of homicide victims in the city of Jackson.Jackson mother Akaeem Kennedy Nolan, who lost her child to Jackson crime, spoke at the event. “Don’t nobody get mad until it begins to be theirs. This mother here was mad before it became my son. I was mad so it wouldn’t be my children," said Nolan.Also speaking out was the father of Kaylin Banyard, who was recently killed due to city violence.“All the pain you’ve got my family going through. Because you have taken an innocent person life who had nothing to do with you," said Spurgeon Banyard, a father.And another mother who lost her son last December talked about the pain she is going through for having to bury her child.“I just want everyone to know that is brings parents a lot of pain to bury a child because they have a definition for a husband who looses his wife, a wife who looses her husband, a child that looses their mother, but they don’t describe my pain in no dictionary," said Shannon Anderson, mother of Oren Anderson.Also speaking at the event was another mother who lost her child due to violence.“To see my child laying there on the ground, it just tore a part of me, I’ll never be right. The last time I spoke with Kennedy was at 10 o’clock. And in the next 30 minutes I get a call that says 'Ma, get up here Kennedy been shot and I think she’s dead.' That’s a feeling I don’t wish on no one. If you haven’t lost a child you don’t know how to feel but for me that was my only child. My best friend," said Lashanda Hobbs, mother of Kennedy Hobbs.The community continues with the Peace in the Streets walk, which is a citywide prayer march that happens every second Sunday of each month.
