A HOUSE extension was so big that planners ruled it was equivalent to building a second home and refused to give it the go-ahead.
The proposed extension to a cottage at Garleton, near Haddington, was rejected because East Lothian planners ruled it was bigger than the original building.
However, their claim it was the same as building another house in the countryside, which goes against council policy, has been thrown out by councillors on appeal.
A virtual meeting of the council’s Local Review Body saw an appeal by the homeowners upheld after members said they were “comfortable” with the extension.
