Explained: The 'bathtub effect' – the reason floods are so large and deep in the Hawkesbury Nepean Valley

Five major tributaries act like taps pouring water into the valley during a flood, and while every flood is different the Warragamba River contributed up to 70 per cent of the water in major floods that happened in the past sixty years.
