Experts Think France's COVID Death Total, Now Over 100K, Underestimated by Thousands
On 4/15/21 at 2:51 PM EDT
France became the third country in Europe to reach the grim milestone of 100,000 COVID-19-related deaths, as new infections and deaths surge due to virus variants. The announcement comes as France added 300 new deaths Thursday to the previous total of 99,777.
However, experts said the 100,000 mark is an understatement by thousands, accordion to the Associated Press.
Lionel Petitpas is the president of the group Victimes Du COVID-19, a Facebook page that allows family members to share memories of their loved ones lost to the virus. Petitpas himself lost his wife Joelle to COVID-19 in March last year and told the AP that families of victims "want the government to make a collective gesture to recognize our collective loss."
